Project Maemo - Promo Videos - (For N900 lovers)

Hey guys...
You all know now its more than one year for our amazing N900... Just remembered about these video promos of N900 again..
* This is the first video pro Nokia released. (This amazing video is the main reason i bought N900 )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYnx0PUX7Do
** Also this video is amazing!! - PROJECT MAEMO -

*** And finally the video after PR 1.2..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbxyLnwFSvI&feature=channel
When i watch these videos, i feel sad.. Coz Nokia gave new life to mobile world with MAEMO... But they dont care about it anymore..
Anyway Nokia N900,,, STILL YOU ARE AMAZING!!
"You may loose faith on us.. But never in your selves! From here, the fight will be your own.."
_____________[Protect Transformers]_____________

the emails... I really need to have total sync between my outlook and the phone.. I was expecting N900 as a high end -kind of work phone ..I'm talking about Exchange server - so even the web access we have has to go over VPN - and for that you need bunch of certificates.. and you're not able to get them for linux - that I'm sure..
so the exchange would be sollution..
anyway
also the Digital compass and no AR
finally the OS thing.. strange how people are used to think..
look at this from a different point of view:
Nokia was one of the first companies in the world to start with mobile phones.. right?
They had huge share of market - right?
They have got years of experience and advantage in techological expertiese - right?
They start to loose pace with smartphones and had been loosing it ever since N98 8GB - right?
Now - they fail once again...creating a device, which should have been superior.. and the development probably cost huge amounts of money.. when they create a platofrm without continuity...which is replaced by incompatible system 6 months after release of N900
- so the right answer is not.. well the others don't do it.. so we (Nokia) don't need to bother
- the answer is We are in deep sh**t considering the smartphones market and we are loosing market share.. in an incredible fast pace.. we should do something about it - we should learn from other's mistakes - we should do things better..
and btw - with Android upgrade to upper version - is normal.. I know I know - it is not like maemo and meego.. but they're running tests of meego on N900.. anyway

  • Build Thread: One minute promo video.

Starting what we call in the Rocket world as a "Build Thread".
Task is to create a one minute promo video for a Scouting Training activity.  What I have so far is about 5 Gb of .avi files (about 100) which I shot with my Nikon D90, and about 2,000 still of which probably 50 are really usable.
    Jobs for me:
    1) Finish the one minute script (Voice over) and have it recorded and sent back to me on an audio file.  (or DIY)
    2) Transfer the video files to MPG via stream clip [Question for the group here]
    3) Use pencil and paper to create a screenplay out line, notionally outlining, audio & video, and begin the text and copy placement.
    4) really think about these snippets in my head and think about how they tie together and what the message is and what i want the viewer to DO after watching this.
Ok for now my question for the Board is:
When using the Streamclip converter, do I a)  Export to QT?  b) I just go ahead anccept the defaults?  when I max out the Quality slider, it makes the files HUGE. unsure if that is necessary. c) which compression. Default is Apple Motion JPEG A. ( thought JPEG was a still.)
    Thanks All
    -Russ

You need to convert the D90 video clips to QuickTime.  Assuming you shot an HD format you would select Apple Intermediate Codec as the compression scheme.  You should be able to leave all the other MPEG Streamclip settings at their default, just raise the Quality slider and also check the Frame Size in the export dialog to make sure it matches what you shot (eg 1920x1080). And yes, the resulting files are going to be big.  Expect something like 45GB/hour of video.
MPEG Streamclip has a batch convert mode, so you don't have to do this one file at a time.  But do try converting 1 or 2 files at first, just to make sure the results are good before you batch convert a whole bunch of clips.
In FCE you will need to use one of the AVCHD Easy Setups that matches the frame size & frame rate of your video files (probably 1920x1080i60 if you are in the US).  Don't worry about selecting an AVCHD easy setup;  in your case it just sets FCE to expect QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec video files.  Select the easy setup first, then create a new Sequence, then import your converted files and build/edit your video in the new Sequence.
(FYI, Motion JPEG is a video codec that uses the JPEG compression algorithm.  MJPEG is used in many digital point & shoot cameras for video.)

You will need an external drive that is formatted as MAC OS EXTENDED (journaled).
Move the Project, Events, and any photos and music to the external drive by following the instructions in this post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4141
Be sure to use CONSOLIDATE MEDIA to get the photos and music. Then plug this drive into your computer and you will be able to edit.

  • "Preparing video for display" ****!! Project get's stuck before opening completely

I've been working in this project for almost two years. Now, I'm doing the subtitles in Final cut from Spanish to English for almost two months now, almost half way through the movie so I get a lot of renders done everyday. Since last Week my projects get stuck at "Preparing video for display". I usually go to the Autosave Vault, for some reason one of the project open, and I start working again from the hour or two of work I lost. But, whenever the projects get's to Autorender, the same message displays again, and the damned beachball appears and all goes to ****. I can't get anywork done, I've lost a lot of hours worth of work and I'm facing a deadline. I've tried trashing the preferences, but nothing. So before I drive my car into a tree i wanted to at least submit the question, to you.

    Best to all of you.

My guts are saying that you've a bit of an unstable installation going on, causing the instability... the fix is to perform a clean install and try working with that. You can build a new startup disk on a firewire drive or on another internal drive or partition, leaving your current startup disk alone... safest way to test this hypothesis... I'd also not install Lion if you're going to run FCP 6. Best setup for FCP 6 is likely Leopard or Snow Leopard. In reality it can be argued that the version of FCP that you are running will run the best on the OS it was written for in the first place.  Which, for FCP 6, is likely 10.5.x.
Here's a list of what is known to be a stable setup with every version of FCP: http://www.digitalrebellion.net/blog/posts/recommended_quicktime_and_mac_os_conf igurations_for_final_cut_pro.html

  • Trying to install FF 4 beta 2 for Maemo 5 on my N900 but it still shows as 1.1.

Trying to install FF 4 beta 2 for Maemo 5 on my N900 but it still shows as 1.1. Uninstalled, removed all Mozilla repositories, rebooted, sufed back to firefox.com/m/beta and clicked the install link. The N900 switched over to my app manager and re-installed the beta repository then tried to download/install 1.1.
Has the repository been updated for beta 2?

There's a problem with the Maemo application manager that causes it to always use the version in the Ovi Store, even if you try to install a newer version from a different source. For a possible solution, see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=63508

  • YouTube videos for a Final Cut Pro X project

I am working on a Final Cut Pro X (10.0.6) project made from YouTube videos (1080p HD). My project settings are:
Video Properties: Format 1080p HD, Resolution 1920x1080, Rate 25p and Render Format Apple ProRes 422. I want to extract it and burn it to a DVD and then play this DVD in standard DVD Players or a video projector. Is this possible or the quallity is going to be poor ?
Also in the Render Format is there a better option so to get a highest quallity video ?
    Thanks in Advance.

The quality is not going to be great, coming from YouTube and then compressing to standard definition video. 422 will be perfectly adequate for the media. Raising it to 4444 or uncompressed isn't going to do anything for your video.
Try making a disk image and see how it looks.

  • Enhancing DVD Video for Big Projection in Cinema Hall

I have a Wedding DVD project of 50 Mts duration. Now my client want it to be Projected in Cinema Hall for viewing of whole family. To-day I had trial run. Screen is too BIG screen is 37' wide, quality appeared to be poor.  Is there any way to enhance the VIDEO Quality so that Projected Image is acceptable.. I have very short time. Any help, guidance will be highly appreciated

I have Magic Bullet Instant HD and it works BUT the results are varyable depending upon the source material and output format, Joe is correct about the cropping but there are options you can choose for the output
I have achieved better upscaling using TMPG
Virtualdub/avisynth does an even better job but is far harder to master.
That said at the club I go to we regularly project DVD via our upscaling Bluray player with great results, it may be worth checking out some different players at your local Mall as the output quality does vary
As for future, how about a media player such as a Western Digital, HDMI/component outputs, or for something cheap but great a Raspberry PI mini PC, there is a media player operating system available and you have that on an SD card and the video on a memory stick, mine works great on video encoded up to 30mbps so a 20mbps HD file plays great

  • Video setting for N900

Do anyone know how how to setting when convert video to N900 and get full screen ?
im using "Super" freeware converter by eRightSoft..do any one know how to set it and get the full screen convert in N900?

If its the black bars vertical then this should help.
I have done some extensive testing with this issue as mentioned in previous posts.
The main problem is the resolution and getting it right with the container you use to encode.
Take a look at this link http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_Video_Encoding and use Handbrake to encode your video (Free). The cropping function that you see on the right crops the black border not the film so you can set it to whatever you want.
I now have a DVD aspect 1.78 with 1-2mm gap width and 3mm gap height and the picture does not look squashed as its encoded in 720 X 448. I have the crop set at 58 top and 58 bottom.
Kudos and Solved on this one. Its also quick and can encode on the fly with DVD43 running in background.
    Hope this helps.

  • Making an explanatory video for users of Azure

I went to MSDN to post a question to a forum on Azure, but when I click 'ask a question' it takes me here to "machine learning" instead of to "features", "pricing" etc..
Anyway, the question is this.  I had a trial version of Azure, and I put up maybe 800 meg of videos and I also used Azure media services to get URLS to them that I could view in a webpage.
I looked at my costs (my bill), and it looked like I was only getting charged about a dollar a month.
I couldn't believe this, and since I also did not know how to terminate my account, or even delete the storage that I was using up, I just stopped paying.
Now, I want my website users to get their own storage from Microsoft, and I want to give them an explanatory video that shows them how to use Azure media services so that they can store their own videos, and also post the URL to my website, where they can
watch those videos with some features added by my website.
But I need to be sure I understand the billing, before I create this tutorial video for them.
If they put up perhaps 40 videos of 100 meg each (4000 meg is about 4 Gigabytes) and use the media services etc.  Are they really only going to be charged a few dollars a month?
    Thanks,

    Hi Gidmaestro,
A Media Service account is tightly coupled with one (or more) storage accounts. If you already have a storage account, you may choose to assign it to your new Media Service account. Please refer to
http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/storage/ for the azure storage billing details.

  • Is there a way to "center" video for DVD distribution?

This may be a long story so hear me out...
For the past year or so, after every great sports win by my alma mater Michigan State University I make a highlight video for web distribution. My workflow for doing so goes like this:
    1. Record straight to DVD from Tivo or live TV using Panasonic ES10 recorder
    2. Extract clips using Cinematize (uncompressed full quality setting, automatic adjustment 640x480)
    3. Import clips into Final Cut Pro and edit
    4. Export full quality uncompressed Quicktime
    5. Export H.264 for web viewing
Well this work has found the attention of someone in the East Lansing (where MSU is) city council. They would like me to throw together a short little video to be played at bars in East Lansing after the MSU mens basketball tournament games.
I have done a few tests simply taking the uncompressed Final Cut exports and making a DVD in iDVD out of them. The results, while OK, aren't the best. I'm thinking there isn't much I can do there because I'm not working with the best source material (going through a number of compressions - Tivo, DVD recorder, iDVD, etc).
But one thing I did notice though is my fancy iDVD created menu looked pretty slick with the video scaled down. The video was crisp and clear.
Is there a way to scale my video down so that it doesn't play full screen? Almost doing a 4-sided letterbox. I'm envisioning the video scaled down, centered on the TV.

Yes, I think I understand what you want to do...
    You can scale the video down or up to pretty much any size you would want to use;
    When your video is in the timeline, double click it, and it will open in one of the video preview windows (I belive its called the "viewer" window), for me on my dual screen, its the one on the left;
A few tabs will appear at the top of the the Viewer window, Video, Filters and Motion; Click on the motion Tab...
    When there the video will disappear a time line where keyframes live will appear, since you have not used key frames in this clip for motion, there will not be any there;
    You will see to the left of this a few pull downs, Basic Motion, Crop, Distort, Opacity, Drop Shadow and Time Remap;
    When you have the basic Motion twisty selected, you will see, Scale, Rotation, Center and Anchor Point;
The one your interested in for what I belive you wan to do is Scale. You can click in the box that defaults to 100 (meaning 100 percent) and change this to anything you want.
    By changing it this once it will make the entire clip play at that new scale. You can get creative and keyframe it over time using the little diamond shape button with the right and left arrow on each side. You can add a key frame at any point int he time line; and it will scale (in this case) to each setting you have set a key for. It interpolates the scale at each point in the time line when you set different scales etc... you can fiddle with this and get some good ideas for other projects if you want;
For what I belive you asked for, no key frame is required as you want it to start and finish att he same reduced scale.
    I trust this helps you out, and hopefully I read your question correctly;
p.s. if you leave the Center at 0, and 0 it will be centred, but its important to note you can use that to chance the position of the video in the video frame, again not needed for your request - but handy to know....

  • Artifacting in Motion.  Sample project, and a request for help inside.

Would anyone be willing to download this Motion project and see if any artifacting occurs, either on playback or export? I'm on an original 2.66 quad macpro with a x1900 GPU. i've had the entire system checked out by apple, and clean installed everything and this issue still persists. i'm just curious everything the same if the issue shows up on anyone else's system with a similar configuration.
after opening motion it takes about 2x times looped through or just randomly scrubbed before the artifacts start to appear.
here's the link, it's got the motn source .mov zipped up and a sample of the artifacting issue as well as a screen cap from openGL monitor that shows some interested parameters jumping around when artifacting occurs.
    http://file.meyersproduction.com/motion/3.16.08/
I copy and pasted what I sent to motion's feedback page below.
    thanks
    austin
"issue: artifacting in motion when building/exporting multi layer projects with video with fx's and masks applied (about 13 layers with 1 mask and primatte rt turned on causes artifacting). Link to samples of .motn and .mov below.
background: this is occurring on a clean install of os x 10.5 as well as a clean install of 10.4. this computer has spent a week at the apple store getting run through hardware diagnostics and came back with a clean bill of health. after reinstalling and building fresh projects the same artifacting immediately reoccurred.
other notes: I have run the OpenGL monitor while playing back and exporting in motion and artifacts always coincide with a huge spike in the "Texture Page Off Data (Non-AGP)" parameter, there are also lessor spikes in "CPU wait for GPU" but those are not always indicative of an artifact.
I also have a nvidia 7300 gpu installed and it handles any and all motn files flawlessly (albeit soooo much slower)
I have had similar issues since purchasing this system over a year ago.
I would sincerely appreciate any kind of communication other than "reinstall your system and FCS 2"
below is a link to a motn project and video asset, as well as a openGL screencap and exported movie with artifacts
    http://file.meyersproduction.com/motion/3.16.08/"

Personally, I think the problem is related to Leopard. I too have been getting artefacts in Motion 3 projects with masking since installing Leopard. Like Austin's experience, the artefacts do not appear at first after launching Motion but emerge fairly fast.
Deleting the mask(s) gets rid of the problem but I kind of wanted to be able to use masks in my Motion projects! I had been doing so without problems in Motion 3 but with OS X Tiger. In case you were wondering, I have also reinstalled Motion and Final Cut since installing Leopard following advice on other threads.
I don't think the issue is hardware-related, though I appreciate that my projects are very demanding for the system I have. Other more demanding projects in other applications (including Final Cut Pro) may render slowly but don't result in artefacts.
    Best wishes

  • Unable to publish projects with inserted video - error message The Flash video can not be loaded

I've created a project in Captivate 6 with two slides that have inserted videos in them
Both the videos were created in Captivate 6 by publishing those projects as mp4 videos
They play fine in the previews but when publishing I get the error saying the Flash video can not be loaded for both of those slides and in the output files the area for the video is blank.
I have checked that the videos are not open anywhere else as I saw on a previous post this was the issue but the only place they are in use is in the project I am trying to publish.
Below are my settings and the error message
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your screenshot indicates you are publishing to a folder on a network drive.
    Have you:
Verified whether or not the video file exists at the published folder location? (It should ideally be sitting in the same folder as the SWF that calls it.)
Verified that the folder location is set up as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings?

  • Output file size restrictions - HD Video for YouTube

For over a year YouTube has removed restrictions on file sizes for individuals that want to do so.  The preset output in Premier Elements 11 for "Online - HD Video for YouTube 1920X1080" will not allow a video longer than 15 minutes.  I need to remove this restriction and be able to produce files to upload to YouTube without file size restrictions.  How can I do this?

    TheBanjoNut
You cannot. And, Premiere Elements 12 has the same YouTube limitations as 11.
You need to export your Timeline to a file saved to the computer hard drive, and then upload that file to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
At YouTube, you would need to explore the opportunities that it offers in the way of "extended times". It may require special accounts.
Without further details of your Premiere Elements project preset and the properties of your source media, I would generalize and suggest that you look at the follow choices for creating this file for upload to YouTube at the YouTube web site...
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets =
    MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30
    or
YouTube Widescreen HD (changing the settings under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset)
Please review. If you have any further questions on this, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks.

  • Embedding video for a CD Presentation

    Hi,
I used to know Flash, but haven't used it in a couple of
years. I'm working on a project now using 2 large, 16-second AVI
videos I created with Bryce 5.5 (355 MB each). The project is for a
90-second self-executing Flash presentation for business card CDs
(60 MB capacity). The storyline is as follows:
5 second company splash screen (Fade in/Fade out)
    Begin music/narration
    Video 1 (16 seconds)
    Video 2 (16 seconds)
1 minute of displaying photos and bulleted graphics
    highlighting points
5 second company splash screen (Fade in/Fade out)
    End music/narration
I'm having trouble finding information on importing my videos
to maintain their quality. (My demo piece, minus the 2D graphics
section, done in Windows Movie Maker using "Video for Local
Playback 2.1 Mbps" is fine. The 2 movies and two splash screens
together come to about 8 MB, and the video quality is good.) I take
it I need to embed my AVIs in Flash using the Custom Encoding, but
the default is a "Max Data Rate" of 700 kbs per second and the
    quality degrades terribly.
What is the maximum you would recommend for local playback on
modern PCs given the 60 MB space on the CDs and the storyline?
Note: the people to be given these business card CDs are likely to
    have decent computers.
    Thanks for the help.
    Matt

    Adrian,
If I'm not mistaken, you will get better results if you deinterlace your video when you encode, IF your source was in a DV/DV50 timeline, or anything where there is a lower or upper field dominance (check your sequence settings.) If you happen to have shot in any progressive format, then no, you don't have to deinterlace.
Now, the tricky thing is, you'll need the flip4mac plug-in to allow you to encode windows media files. In the advanced tab of your video settings in the flip4mac encoding window, look down at the bottom in the Frame Format input type to change the input type from "Progressive" to "Interlace - Lower field first" and then the output type needs to be "Progressive." This will deinterlace your footage.
Now, one thing you mention, is that this powerpoint needs to work on PCs and Macs. With windows media, you should be all clear on the PC side, but any newer mac will have to go and download the free flip4mac plugin, or windows media player for mac to be able to play it - a free download, but it will still require an internet connection, and the time to do that.
    Hope that helps,
    Chris
