Prolong backlit time display in iPod Classic

Gentlefolk;
The display on my iPod Classic defaults to current time and battery status. Perfect. But, to see the time, when I touch a control, the backlight comes on, then the song title displays, when all I really want to do is see the time.
Is there a way I can change the length of time that the time can be displayed with the backlight on, before displaying the song info? I didn't see anything in SETTINGS that covers this function.
Thx!

I don't think there is any way to do what you are asking (and you're probably the first person to do so, most users complain about the clock) but you can have the time displaying on the *Title bar* - that's the top line where the battery icon is, but on the left side. It will alternate with the title of the current menu you are in and you cannot change the length of display time here either but...
Go to *Settings/Date & Time/Time in title* and press the select (centre) button to On.

  • Some album artwork won't display on iPod Classic

I've had a strange problem recently with my new iPod Classic(and, come to think of it, my 2nd gen. iPod Nano): certain album artwork won't properly display, but will instead show up as a black square(like the 5th Metallica album, or the Spinal Tap album...). Sometimes, this happens only with certain songs on an album. For instance, I purchased 2 songs from the album "Employment" by Kaiser Chiefs last year. Recently, I purchased the CD, and I imported it to my computer. I chose "get album artwork" so the album cover would display for the newly imported songs, as well as the 2 I already bought. Now, the 2 songs I bought last year display their artwork normally, but the newly imported tracks just display the black square.
What's going on, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks in advance..

in iTunes, choose to not *display Album Artwork on your iPod*, then sync your iPod, then change it back to display album artwork and sync again. I believe that will fix it.

  • Last read note is note displayed in ipod Classic

I put some notes into my iPod Classic. Open the first, read it to the end, press center button and so on. For example, I read 20 notes this way. After that I turn off my iPod, go to another menu or just do nothing for a while.
When I return to notes, I see only the name of last read note. I don't see its text and I cannot browse other notes.
The only thing I can do is to press menu 20 times. After this I can browse notes again.
Do you agree that this is not convenient? Is Apple going to fix this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex.

  • 2 Clock/Time display on Ipod. One on top of the other.

This is only visually available when I have my Ipod docked and when I attempt to input my password.
No idea as to how I can remove this.
I noticed that 1 time stamp (reads: 6:26) never changes under the current time and I saw a difference after Daylight savings time occured last weekend.
Have resert time in Settings and that does not make a difference.
No trauma to device -- just regular use.

    - Reset the iPOd. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factorydefaults/new iPod

  • Wrong time displayed on iPod Touch 4th Gen...

I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen. The time is off by about 6 minutes. I regularly sync it with my iMac, but it doesn't correct the time. Anyone know what's going on? I cannot correct manually on the iPod. It's pretty annoying.

I'm not sure what you mean that "you cannot correct manually on the iPod?" What happens when you go into Settings>General>Date & Time>Set Date & Time? You should be able to adjust the time and date.

  • IPod Classic music artwork Displayed on TV????

Is there a way to display my iPod Classic music artwork to my TV like my Zune does?

You cannot drag and drop photos. Read your manual and you will quickly find out it mentions nothing. However in ITunes, click edit and preferences while your IPOD is connected. Click IPOD tab and you will see a photos tab. Designate where your photos are you want to snyc.

  • How to format my ipod classic

Some time ago, my ipod classic began not being recognized by i-tunes. It does come up as an icon on the desktop, however. I get an error message saying it cannot be repaired, and it is being returned with limited functionality. It says I should do a backup and re format it. How is this done, and has anyone else had similar problems after updating to the latest i-tunes version?

I also had about 80 gigs of space left when the iPod decided to fill up my music files, somehow.

  • Ipod Classic is pretty slow

How much time does the ipod classic needs to open a song ? For me, it takes about3-4 seconds,i hear a noise and then it opens with the album art ..is it normal?
    Thx for helping me!

You've got to remember that the Classic uses a physically small (1.8" I believe) and relatively slow drive. As the iPod access music files, artwork, etc. it must first retrieve it from the hard drive. This differs from the Nano, which uses flash memory (not a hard drive). Now, as data on the hard drive changes - adding and deleting music, playlists, podcasts, etc. - files on the drive will begin to fragment; this will also slow some things down.
If you find that the iPod is slowing over time, you can try restoring it then resyncing all of your music. This acts as a reformat and should eliminate fragmented files. *Make sure you have all of your music in iTunes before proceeding since the restore will completely wipe your iPod*.
Another thing you can try is removing your album artwork from the iPod. This means that it only needs to retrieve music, not graphics as well. This should speed up the starting of your songs.

  • Ipod classic goes back on by itself

When I set the timer on my ipod classic to go off, the music stops; but a few minutes later it frequently spontaneously begins to play again.  By then I usually am not listening, so it continues without stopping.

If this problem, started after a recent Sync, does the songs skipped in iTunes?
if it does not, then you could try the Hard Reset
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

  • IPod classic displays 'No music' after sync, HDD problem? Geschiedenis • Verwijder  So recently I synced my iPod Classic 160 GB like I did so many times and when I wanted to play some music afterwards it couldn't find any files on the iPod anymore. H

So recently I synced my iPod Classic 160 GB like I did so many times and when I wanted to play some music afterwards it couldn’t find any files on the iPod anymore. However when you look in the settings it displays that ~roughly 90 GB free space is available. Seen the fact that I had about 60 gigs of music this doesn’t seem like a coincidence and I think my music is still somewhere on the ipod but the HDD isn’t recognizing it anymore.
I’ve tried resetting it, and resetting it to factory settings, which didn’t work. When connected to a desktop it won’t be recognized by iTunes, it displays an error message that the iPod cannot be read and that I have to reset it to factory settings.
I’ve spent some time researching this problem yesterday and I ran into a myriad of vaguely similar problems didn’t really offer any help. Currently I’m thinking that formatting the iPod might work, and restoring the software afterwards. However this is a rather bold strategy so I’d like to consult you here first.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi turingtest2,
Thank you for the info, with formatting my iPod I managed to connect it to iTunes again.
However..in the page you linked to there is a section about how transferring large amounts of data can dump your library. That seems to be the problem in this case. It won't even allow me to transfer more than 2 gigabytes of music per sync, if I go higher it will dump everything again. Having over >60 GB of music in my library, this is disastrous to say the least.
Do you think that there is any other solution besides the method you mentioned involving Smart Playlists?

  • IPod classic's display: always have to see time?

    Hello,
I really go used to my 30GB iPod over the years and miss its display. Whereas the new iPod classic shows the time/clock while listening to a song, the display of the 30GB iPod showed the actual song that was playing.
Is there any (easy) way to change the display of the iPod classic? The display really bugs me! I've read that there are some crazy hack-jobs to help with this issue, but I was hoping for something easier.
    Thanks!

And I do realize this has been posted before. I am hoping that since it's been posted on here, perhaps there has been a fix for it. I'm guessing not, though?

  • I have a new 160GB iPod Classic. I often listen to it for many hours at a time. Even with Itunes and the Classic set on shuffle it repeats songs often and only plays a small fraction of my songs. Help!            of my

When listening for hours to my new Clasic 160 with several thousand songs and both itunes and the Classic set to shuffle all songs it only plays a small fraction of my library and plays many songs several times over that period. It also seems to pick a small different group of songs to repeat without touching many of most of my songs each time I start listening. Over 98% of the music is legally owned in my CD collection. A few are down loads which play! There should be no issues with ownership. Please help. As much as I like all my tunes I want to actually hear them all. There are many many albums that have never been played.

Okay, well we've eliminated a couple of things.
One thing I have noticed about the iPod Classic: I suspect that "shuffle" is actually a Playlist, not a real shuffle. The Classic is not as powerful as iTunes or a desktop/computer, so it cannot truely "shuffle songs". I suspect what happens is that every Sync of the Classic with its iTunes Library causes a revised "shuffle playlist" to be put on the iPod and then, when you choose Shuffle play, it actually uses that special hidden "shuffle playlist".
So one trick is to Sync your iPod with iTunes frequently. This would change the "shuffle playlist". Another trick would be to create your own Playlists, either by adding what you want to a Regular Playlist or by creating a Smart Playlist which adds and removes songs by itself.
Smart Playlists: for example, you can create a Smart Playlist (in iTunes) which contains a random selection of all songs, or a random selection of a particular group of songs, provided the song has not been played for a period of time, say six months, or 300 days. Every Sync of the iPod with iTunes would remove any song from that Smart Playlist if it has been played. That same song cannot go back into the Playlist for a period of six months, or whatever you choose.
This way, you can reduce the likelyhood of hearing the same songs too often. This brings me to another point. If you have the same song, on different albums, then it's possible that you are hearing that same song but from both albums.
Try this: in your iTunes Library,
look for and click on the big + button and choose New Smart Playlist..., if you do not have the Sidebar displayed, switch to the Playlists view where you will find it in the bottom left corner,
Set it up to look like this:
It creates a list of songs that have not been played for fifteen weeks. It excludes videos and in my iTunes Library, it has 527 songs in it. If you would like a smaller list than that, click on the Limit to and fill in the number of songs you want.
Having set it up, play some songs from it (in shuffle mode if you wish) and watch how it changes . The song must play through to the end of the track before it is classed as "played". If you like it, let it go onto your iPod. You could set up a few Playlists, each with their own rules. Even if a song appears in two different Smart Playlists, if you have the "last played is not in the last" rule in both lists, then playing the song will eliminate it from both lists. None of this removes songs from the iPod (unless you use Sync selected Playlists...).

  • I've plugged my ipod classic into my mbp 13 inch with retina display but I can't sync or charge it ?

I recently purchased a macbook pro 13 inch with retina display, am having a great time coming over from Windows! I went to try and sync my ipod today for the first time but unfortunately I cannot charge or sync my ipod when connected. I'm using the standard connector that came with my ipod classic and tried both usb ports on the macbook but have had no luck. I tried looking for the ipod as well on the computer but I can't see it .
I'm pretty sure I've done everything correctly, but am still trying to get used to using my macbook so have probably overlooked something !

HI Matt542, and welcome to the community.
Did you transfer your iTunes library over to the new mac? If not, you should because once the Mac recognizes your iPod it is going to delete the music on it unless you have transferred the old library.
Your iPod can only be synced with one iTunes library at a time.  If you try to sync it to a new computer/iTunes library the process will erase what is currently on the iPod and replace it with the content that is now in your new iTunes library.  If possible, copy your entire iTunes library from your PC to your Mac first.  Here are a few ways to do it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
One way to do it is to use your iPod Classic as an external hard drive and copy it that way.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
Otherwise, you'll need to use one of the methods described in this Apple support document to copy content from your iPod back to your Mac.

  • 160gb ipod classic won't display album artwork...sometimes

I have a 160GB iPod Classic (version 2.0.4 PC), and ran into a strange problem regarding displaying album artwork. Here's what I can describe:
--> When browsing through albums, any albums that have been added to my iPod or had their info changed since a certain time (not sure of the exact date but I believe it to be July 2013) do not display artwork.
--> If these albums are played, one song from the album will not display artwork, but all the rest will. I can't detect any set pattern as to which song won't display artwork once I update it, but I'm sure there's some pattern.
--> All the album artwork is displayed on Cover Flow and on iTunes, but not in these places.
--> It doesn't matter whether I downloaded the artwork directly through iTunes (i.e. clicked "Get Album Artwork") or put in artwork from a file on my computer, this happens literally every single time.

Probably, the easiest way to resolve this is to copy the artwork from one song on an album and paste it into every song on that album.
In your iTunes Library, choose an album that has artwork issues; choose one track that has the artwork and copy it. Then:
the slightly longer method is to check each song individually, until you find the one with the missing artwork. Paste (the copy previously made) from one of the other tracks on the album.
a slightly quicker method is to highlight all the songs on that album (make sure it is just that one album) and paste the artwork into the box.
Sync the iPod with your iTunes Library.
