Protecting content / locking master Keynote file

Apple, it's been over 7 years now the iWork community has been screaming for a fix to the most glaring problem with Keynote... being able to protect the content or password protecting the file from being modified.
There are so many ways to address this critical error:
1. Password protect the master file to disallow changes/editing.
2. Password protect elements of editing and copying within the master file
3. Generating a player (like PowerPoint) that allows control but not modification.
There is currently zero way to protect source content when sharing a 'Keynote' file.
Saving the file as a movie does not allow for presentation control.
It's absolutely absurd that after 7 years this has not been addressed.
My question is;
Does Apple have any intention of implementing a way to secure master files, content, from theft & modification?
This one feature would propel 'Keynote' from being a hobbyists toy - to being the de-facto presentation software for business.
Amazing software, but 100% useless for business until this error is addressed.
Is it that hard to put password protection on a file?

For the first issues, what you can do is rename the field in the second table and make it read-only, thus preventing the user from interacting with it. To automatically copy the value form the first field to the second, you can use the following custom Validate script for the first field:
// Custom Validate script for text field
getField("text2").value = event.value;
Alternatively, you can set the second field to be a calculated field, and use the following custon Calculate script:
// Custom Calculate script for the second text field
event.value = getField("text1").valueAsString;
Replace "text1" and "text2" with whatever you named the fields.
For the second question, if you make the total field read-only, the user won't be able to interact with the field.

  • How to have dynamic content in a Keynote presentation (ie from XML file) ?

    Hi,
    I need to update automatically the content of a Keynote presentation from an extrenal file (ie XML). The update can be executed when the presentation is launched, it is not necessary to do it during it runs.
    Is it possible and how ?

    If it will all fit in memory read the file as you are doing now appending everything into a StringBuilder. Then use the reverse() method of that class to obtain your output.

  • ZEN Xtra 40G has problems with protected content bought from MSN Mu

    I bought a few albums from MSN Music. These songs are the only ones I have ever had problems with.
    Basically When I am playing one of these songs and try to Fast Forward through the song I get a Playback error and the player locks up. Also If am playing one of these songs and shut off the player, when I turn it back on It says the song is playing and there is no music (It is locked up).
    Also I have another issue, although it may be by design it is pretty annoying.. If I try to play these songs through media source when I have my Zen extra connected with a USB cable media source returns with. "The selected file is protected and cannot be played in media source".
    Anyone else having similar issues with protected content?
    I have already upgraded my firmware and driver..
    Thanks,

    I've never used WMAs, let alone those with DRM. At a guess the license probably prevents you from copying back to the PC i.e. it's a one way only transfer.
    I think you need to check with the music store you bought from as to whether you can download the tracks again to your PC. This is one of the irritating things about WMA and DRM, although perhaps there are methods to back the files and the licenses up. I don't know enough about the technology, but suffice to say for the moment I'm steering clear, buying CDs, and using MP3 to encode them.

  • How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp

    How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
    I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

    Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
    To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
    Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
    The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
    You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
    Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. Hope this all helps!

  • Possible to view Keynote files / presentations as read only ?

    Keynote has been a wonderful study tool: I can tap the screen on my iPad2 or iPhone4, and the next bit of information appears (using the "builds" effects to make new info appear, eg: answers to questions). It's just like flash cards, but on an Apple mobile device.  However, the temptation is always there to keep editing the text (ie: cut/copy-paste, and break up more paragraphs into question-answer format).
    With the recent software upgrades (including a Keynote upgrade), is there now a way to make Keynote files "read-only," once they're on an iPad2 or iPhone4?  Last year I tried to make my files "read-only" on my Mac desktop, but when I downloaded them onto my iPad2, they were still editable.
    Or, does anybody know of any other app or program that can display Keynote on an iPad, with all its "builds" and effects, but in a read-only format so that it can't be edited in the iPad/iPhone?

    Hi ,
    Please try with the following code in the feeder class in GET_DATA method( after  ct_data is assigned ) and check if it works.
       field-SYMBOLS: <fs_field> like line of CT_FIELD_USAGE.
       loop at CT_FIELD_USAGE ASSIGNING <FS_FIELD>.
         case <FS_FIELD>-NAME.
         when 'FIELD_NAME'.
             <FS_FIELD>-READ_ONLY = 'X'.
         ENDCASE.

  • Missing fonts in Keynote file : how to replace them ?

    When opening a Keynote file that had fonts not installed on the system, an alert window used to open.
    You could then easily replace the missing fonts with other ones installed.
    Not anymore !
    The alert window still appears in Keynote V6, but the "replace font" option is missing.
    Does anyone know a workaround ?

    yeah, I tried the whole modifying the master slide thing but the missing fonts aren't on there, they would have come from slides I deleted as well or already replaced the fonts on so not sure why they are lingering....
    oh wait...I think I might have just figured out something. The whole "revert to previous version" wouldn't that have something to do with still remembering fonts used in a previous version? I'm going to try and see if I can duplicate the current document in some way that makes it a new version with no history in it.
    Other than that I was going to try exporting to '09 do the replace fonts tool that was in there and then open it back up but I'll have to modify the transitions and shadows that were new to current version of keynote.

    I want to send a mail which has content of a gif file. I don't want an attachment. It seems that the content type "image/gif" is not supported.

    u can do the following
    the solution is on implementing the DataSource class and overwrite getInputStream method
    see the following code:
    public static void setGifContent(Message msg) throws MessagingException {
    FileInputStream s;
              try {
                   s = new FileInputStream("c:\\try.gif");
              byte b[];
                   b = new byte[s.available()];
              s.read(b);
              System.out.println("byte size"+b.length);
              String x=new String(b);
              ByteArrayInputStream b1=new ByteArrayInputStream(b);
    // gif DataSource is an inner class
    msg.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(new GIFDataSource(b)));
              } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
         catch (IOException e1) {
              // TODO Auto-generated catch block
              e1.printStackTrace();
    static class GIFDataSource implements DataSource {
    private byte b[];
    public GIFDataSource(byte[] stream) {
    this.b=stream;
    // Return image stream in an InputStream.
    // A new stream must be returned each time.
    public InputStream getInputStream() throws IOException {
    if (html == null) throw new IOException("Null HTML");
    ByteArrayInputStream b1=new ByteArrayInputStream(b);
    return b1;
    public OutputStream getOutputStream() throws IOException {
    throw new IOException("This DataHandler cannot write HTML");

  • Flash Player 10.3 video playback protected content Error #3343?

    I have been streaming videos and movies I have purchased without problems until yesterday when Amazon wouldn't load the video and suggest upgrading Flash Player.
    I have an iMac G5 with Intel Core Duo 2 processor and OS X 10.5, so Flash Player 10.3.183.29 is the most up-to-date version my computer can have.
    I went to Adobe site and followed instructions for removing the bad Adobe Flash Access DRM module, deployed in 2011. Replaced it with the corrected DRM module. When I ran the test for protected content through the Adobe demo video player, no video played and received message: Error #3343. IV check failed.
    What is error #3343? How can this be resolved?
    Would greatly appreciate anyone's help on this.
    Thanks.

    I have the exact same problem as everyone above. "error #3343 IV check failed".
    OS: OS X 10.5.8
    Flash Version: 10.3.183.29
    I wanted to watch a show I bought on Amazon Video, and it told me I need to upgrade my Flash Player. I'm running OS X 10.5.8 so the newest for me is 10.3.183.29. It sucessfully installs and low and behold, Amazon Video tells me that I need to upgrade my Flash Player. I followed all the necessary protocol according to Adobe, deleting all the files in the Native Cash folder, going to the protected video test page, and loading the correct URL into the player. It did put the folder in Native Cache that Adobe said it would, but clearly it doesn't work.
    This is clearly a bug in the newest verion of Flash Player for OS X 10.5 users.
    Seriously anyone from Adobe or any moderator bring attention to this problem so that it can be fixed. Don't alienate your customers just because they're using an OS that's 5 years old.

  • Wont play protected content

    My A-TV won't play any protected content. Anyone else having this problem?

    I can stream perfectly well as long as it is stuff that I loaded off a CD or other MP3 file. Anything purchased from Apple won't work. Even when I try to sync instead of stream, it won't load any of the drm protected songs onto A-TV. Everything else works though and since the unit is clearly communicating with the network (because the other songs play etc.) and is operatiing on other songs, there must be some sort of protection communication problem and that's why I'm so concerned about the response from customer service.

  • Movies not saved in Keynote file problem

    I created a new Keynote presentation on Tuesday on my iMac at home. It had a slide with 4 movies overlapping on the same slide, the next slide had two animated GIFs, the next slide had one of the animated GIFs from the previous slide repeated on it. The check box for copy audio and movies into document was checked.
    Here's the weird thing—when I transfered the Keynote file to my laptop to take to school and projected it in class the next day, one of the movie files (from the slide with four) could not be found, Keynote warned me that both animated GIFs could not be found, and the repeated GIF could not be found (according to the warning at the startup of the presentation. However, when played, the slide show had all four movies showing and playing, both GIF files were playing on the first slide, but the duplicate GIF one the next slide was missing. I was thoroughly confused as to what was going on.
    When I control clicked the Keynote file to look at its embedded contents, all the movies and GIFs were present, but there was no way to locate them for Keynote at the beginning of the show.
    Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any idea how to "cure" it?
    Thanks, this one sure has me stumped!
    Damian

    What you're looking for is startup.xml, which will be in the
    application data directory for the current user. On my Vista
    machine, the path looks like this:
    Drive:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Flash Media
    Encoder\startup.xml
    that's where all of the current UI settings are stored. So
    you know, startup.xml is UTF-16 encoded and it needs to stay that
    way, and (for some reason) there needs to be a blank line at the
    end of the file.
    Hope it helps

  • Creating DRM-Protected Content for Playback in Quicktime

    I would like to create some protected audio content, not for sale, but so that only authorized persons can listen to it. Since I have had problems with Windows Media DRM, I am wondering whether a private person can create DRM-protected content that Quicktime can play back. I don't know how authorizations would work and I am not intending to stream the content, just to make it available for download.
    Does anyone know about this? Any ideas? A series of Google searches on Apple's website produced nothing relevant.

    Sorry, but there is no scheme for creating copy protection in a QuickTime file, at least none that are practical. There was Media Keys, but that was only supported by the SorensonVideo 3 codec. Apple has not made the DRM they use for the iTunes Store available to other users.
    The only way I can think of to copy-protect a QuickTime file for a web site would be to either put the download on a password-protected web page or wrap the QuickTime file in a password-protected archive of some format (Stuffit can password-protect an archive and there are probably other solutions as well).

  • Emailing Keynote files

    Hi
    I cant email my keynote files to a college overseas. When I attach the file it is not attaching the Package contents but just the keynote file name. I can of course export to powerpoint but this never seem to work seamlessly without text realigning on serveral pages.
    Is there some way I should attach the file with the package contents?
    Thanks for your help

    Welcome to the discussions,Selwyn.
    Since all iWork files (and many other files on the Mac) are packages, you need to Archive them before emailing as the "internet" will see these files as folders otherwise. Just Right-Click or Control-Click on the file's icon and choose *Create Archive of "filename"*

  • Missing fonts warning when opening a Keynote file

    I'm using Keynote 2.0.2 on a Mini Mac. Having searched for an answer to the ubiquitous "Missing Font" problem when opening a Keynote file, I was wondering if upgrading to the latest version would solve this problem. Unless it does, we would have to think twice about upgrading the software. A lot of users seem to have the problem with version 3 too. Does anyone have a solution to this? The presentation runs perfectly well, but the warning message is annoying and doesn't look nice when presenting to clients. HELP!
    1.42 GHz Mac Mini PPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1GB DDR SDRAM

    I've experience this same problem multiple times. There is a way to get rid of the troublesome font, thereby getting rid of the annoying message. I may be glossing over a step or two, but it goes something like this:
    (1) In the Finder, right click on the Keynote file and select "Show Package Contents"
    (2)Locate the index.apxl.gz file and open it. The file exands -- then open the index.apxl file with Textedit (or Word). Throw away the gz file.
    (3) Do a search and replace -- find all instances of the troublesome font name and replace it with a non-troublesome font name, such as GillSans
    (4) Close the text file.
    Opening the Keynote file should now proceed normally. Note: Better practice this on a dummy file until you are sure everything works. I imagine that if you muck up the index file that the orignial Keynote file might be toast!

  • Password protecting and encrypting received pdf file

    Hello there,
    how can I password protect (and encrypt) a pdf file that I received from someone else? For example, I may get a copy of my tax return from my accountant that I don't want anyone else to see on my computer or when I back up contents of my computer online.
    I have only Adobe Reader 8 installed on my computer. So I am not writing these pdf files myself - I realize that then I would have full control over the security settings.
    Microsoft Word and Excel files I can password protect. How can I do this for "received pdf files"?
    Thank you for your help.

    You need Acrobat, not Reader.
    Be aware that even then, PDF security is easy to bypass.
    I use a Mac for the most part but isn't there any features in Windows that will allow you to protect folders?

    HELP!! i'm desperate! A keynote file i worked on last night will not open today. The file size is 74MB, with pix, graphics, etc. Does anyone know how to get through the back door so that i can, at the minimum, print out the slides? URGENT - prsentation is tomorrow!!

    I've tried what you have suggested, and still couldn't get the file to open. Strange how not all the pictures in the power point not found in the Show Package Contents.
    What i think happened was that i had the file open for two weeks, adding data, saving, so when i finally had a computer crash, the file didn't launch. Could be a jpg or tiff, but can't locate all of them.
    Is there a way to get the text entered into KeyNote? What file holds the text? Once i have that, i can recontruct.
    Thanks again!
