Provider Connection String and Extended Protection

Good morning,
I have an application which by default uses OLEDB as Provider in the Connection String and I cannot change this. The Connection String that it uses is the following:
"Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=ServerName;Initial Catalog=DatabaseName;Persist Security Info=False;Integrated Security=SSPI"
The database server (SQL Server 2012) and the client application are placed in two different computers but in the same domain.
The problem is that I cannot connect to the server from the application when I configure the SQL with Force Encryption On and Extended Protection as Required or Allowed. If I disable Force Encryption, then the connection works (Extended protection as Required
and Allowed). This happens when I use Windows Authentication, with SQL Server Authentication there is no problem.
I've tried to use this connection string in a Visual Basic script and it doesn't work either. But when I change the provider to "Provider=SQLNCLI11" then it works (with Force Encryption On, Extended Protection as Required/Allowed, and using Windows
Authentication).
With SQL Server Management Studio everything works fine.
Anyone can explain me the reason why this happens? and if is there a solution?
Thank you!

    Hello,
DB Connect String : Like for other tools (SQL*Plus / ..; ) provide a string like
    user/password@dbalias
Other parameters : if you have created parameters in your Reports, you can specify their value here.
Example : a parameter P_PARAM is defined in your Reports, you can set the value of "Other parameters" :
    P_PARAM=my_value

  • Driver and connection string for DB2 7.1 IBM Z/OS Mainframe

    Hi ALL,
Could someone please provide me the connection string and driver for DB2 7.1 IBM Z/OS Mainframe?
    Regards,
    XIer

    Hello,
With SAP and DB2 V7 still ICLI which is part of the operating system is used for DB connectivity. For details on the setup see related docs for SAP releases up to 6.20 .
As of Netweaver 2004 DB2 V8 and DB2 Connect is used.
If you're talking about Java you need a license either from IBM or if you're OEM customer for DB2 on z/OS it is delivered automatically.

  • Newbie question for LogOn trigger and Connection String

    Hi,
I would like to set certain session variables in the logon trigger. Is there a connection string attribute or some other way to pass a string or some data to the session.
    regards
    Stefan

    Hi,
my concrete problem is that our application only uses one user. eg. appuser . During the login process of the application the "real" user name, language and other attributes are set in a packag as global variables.
This works fine, but as soon as a usr logs on the DB without our application login then these are ofcourse not filled. My idea was to maybe to be able to enhance the connection string and to be able to pass some more information to the logon trigger.

  • Connection string (DB Tools Open Connection)

    All,
I have been unable to pass a connection string to the "DB Tools Open Connection" function.
The only way I've been able to get it to work is by passing in a FILE.DSN.  This method requires the creation of a DSN using the ODBC config tool.
In .NET I can pass all my connection objects just a complete connection string and never touch the ODBC config tool.
Has anyone been able to do this with just a connection string?  I have not seen any examples on how to do this.  It seems like LabView requires a DSN in order to access a database.
    Thanks!

I suspect they use the same driver (installed on the OS), and the .NET environment is just more forgiving.
That would not be a correct assumption. You typically specify which driver to use. In .NET I believe the default is to use the .NET Framework Data Provider, and the connectionstrings.com page shows that with that you can use the alternative syntax which looks like this:
    Standard Security alternative syntax
This connection string produce the same result as the previous one. The
reason to include it is to point out that some connection string
    keywords have many equivalents.
    Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;User ID=myUsername;Password=myPassword;Trusted_Connection=False;
LabVIEW would (obviously) not use the same driver.  By specifying Driver="{SQL Native Client}" you are indicating to use the Native Client ODBC Driver.

  • Want to connect local SQLPlus without passing SID/connecting string.

    Hi
On my network there are many databases and many several machine. On some database host machines when I pass user/password they connect locally but other wont unless I provide connecting string i.e. user/password@connection_string.
How can I make my machines to connect locally if I pass just pass user/password as I want to install StatsPack, it change user within installation and log out as it only pass username/password not the connection string.

well, this works only in Unix, so first, upgrade your plateform to Unix before setting this variable

  • Retrieve data source connection string from reportserver.dbo.DataSource

I would like to retrieve the connection string (and credentials) for each of my data sources (without having to click on each individual item). The DataSource table has a column called ConnectionString, but the data type is image, which cannot be converted to varchar. Does anyone have any ideas of how to pull this information from the database?
I have tried converting to binary/varbinary, and then converting to varchar, but I get garbage back.
Note: I am currently using SSRS 2005
    Thanks,
    Marianne

    Hi Jin,
I downloaded your script and was impressed with the information it retrieves, however, it is not formatted very well with the name of each data source being on the same line as the previous data source so I updated the script to create a blank line between
each data source block, and also to include the login credentials used by the data source, and the path for the data source, which is very useful in being able to locate the data source for editing in Report Manager. However, it is not retrieving all data
sources and I don't know why. I know this for a fact because there are data sources defined that are not in the output of this script but I don't know enough about VB to improve the script further, or how the report server is configured to ensure the code
    finds the missing data sources.
    Here's the updated script.

easily available using Management Studio to connect to the report server but now it's buried in the Report Manager and not accessible from one spot. Bad move by Microsoft apparently. You'd think that there would be an easy way to find all of the data sources.
We need to migrate the SQL Servers on which reports are running, but we have tons of reports and, historically, little documentation for them so we need to be able to determine where all the data sources are so we know which to update. This is proving extremely
difficult. Your script helps but is not comprehensive.
Any and all help is appreciated.

  • IIS Connection string

I have an internal SQL server which is accessed by a publicly facing IIS web server. Both the SQL and IIS servers are internal domain member servers. I'm specifying the connection string to the SQL database in web.config. The password is stored in web.config
    in plain text.
Is it possible to use "Integrated Security" for the connection string, or will that not work for external users? Im not entirely sure how this works. My thinking is that when specifying "Integrated Security" for the connection string,
and then specify a domain user for the app pool (App Pool identity), IIS will go ahead and use that user to authenticate to SQL. Or will it?  I basically dont want the credentials to be saved in plain text. What are my options? How could IIS securely
pass the credentials without needing to spell it out in plain text within the connection string?
    EDIT
I think it might be better to post this to the IIS forum. But regardless, if one has info, please shed some light

And it could be a domain user? I remember trying to do this a while back and saw the SQL logs complicating about using a NT user for a SQL login
If you have not set up impersonation, or this does not work because of your network connection, the login will be for the service account of IIS, which is typically LocalService I believe. That's whatn you get failed logins for a name starting with NT.
Is "Integrated Security=SSPI" the same as "Trusted_Connection=True"? How about "Integrated Security=true"?
    Yes.

  • Changing Connection String dynamically at runtime

I am using the Crystal Report Viewer control in in a Visuall Studio 2008 C# project.  The reports are created inside of Visual Studio 2008, and will be running against an InterSystems Cache database.  I have to use an ODBC (RDO) connection and use a connection string.
I have seen many examples of how to update the connection string at runtime if it is SQL server (or some flavor thereof), but nothing for an ODBC (RDO) connection to a NON-MSSQL database.
The problem when I update the connection string for each of the tables in the report, the report will either not run and display a window -- tiled 'Datbase Login' -- that has the Server, Database, Username, and Password fields on the window, OR, it will run but not against the database that was specified at runtime (it uses the connection stored in the report).
Code Sample #1 (This is using the connection string, and will cause a the "Database Login" window to be displayed - the first scenario from above)

After the above operations are performed, I simply assign the returned ReportDocument object to the Crystal Viewer control.  If I don't call the above functions, and just set the ReportDocument source (using whatever connection string was embedded in the report originally), the report runs as expected.  Only when I attempt to update the connection string, the report will not execute.  Please advise.  Thanks!

  • Changing the server name on package connection string.

I have a connection string in a package which is a local connection string and not in project connection manager and isn't parameterize as well. Now I need to change a server name of the connection property without using editor. Can I do that and how ?
    Moyz Khan

I agree about using configuration for connection string but unfortunately this is an inherited project/packages . And my task it to make these run as currently I don't have luxury to modified it.
So I was able to change most of the connection string with below update
    update[SSISDB].[internal].[execution_parameter_values]
    setparameter_value=replace(cast(parameter_valueasvarchar),'OldServer',NEwServer)
    update[SSISDB].[internal].[object_parameters]
    set[design_default_value]=
    replace(
    cast([design_default_value]asvarchar(1000)),'OldServer','NEwServer')
Now the only one its complaining is the Project connection string . If I know where to look and update that I might be able to run these packages .

  • Database connection string dynamic

    Hello everybody,
My application should do some tests that user choses.
For each test type I should save the database in a file with different name, something like : Report_YYYY_MM_DD_Test_x, without stopping the execution of the application.
My problem is that i cannont rename the database after Teststand wrote in it. I must stop first the application and then I can rename it.
I tried to build dynamic connection strings and to prepare the database before Teststand write it. But I saw that after the first acces, despite of new connection string, Testand write further in the database described in the first connection string. Also seems that the handle to database once established, will be released at the end of test. I could close the connection to the DB but i don't know if it is possible.
for any ideea how to handle this situation i would be grateful

    Hi Harleen Kaur Chadha,
I understand your requirement is access 5-6 database on same server using one JDB receiver channel. I think, it is possible. SAP Help [Link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi711/helpdata/en/44/7c24a75cf83672e10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm ]. In receiver JDB channel select Message Protocol : u201CNative SQL Stringu201D. Then you have make sure that the payload coming to this JDBC receiver channel should look like this
    INSERT INTO DatabaseName : tableName
    (column-name1, column-name2, column-name3)
    VALUES(u2018column-value1u2019, u2018column-value2u2019, u2018column-value3u2019)
But, the mapping program you are using now, should generate the String (shown above). And SAP says this protocol is primarily for test purposes.
FYI. If you select Message Protocol: "XML SQL Format", finally it would be converted to string (shown above) will be sent to database.

  • The Connection String for the Query Log table is automatically encrypted.

When I try to use the Usage Based Optimization to apply Aggregation Design to my measure group, it shows me the following
    error message.
The connection string cannot be found. Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and, in the Analysis Server Properties
page, check the value of the Log\QueryLog\QueryLogConnectionString
    property.
I encountered this error like two weeks ago.  At that time I just reset the connection string and every things seem
to be fine.  A week ago, I successfully applied the Usage Based Optimization for one of my cubes.  However when I tried to apply UBO for my other cubes today, I encountered the same issue again!  I believe no one has changed the property of
    the connection string.
Also if I query the Query Log table, I can see those latest queries made by the users.  I'm sure the queries are still
    logging into this table.
This is really strange.  Anyone else has encountered the same issue?  Thanks.

    Hello Thomas,
I encounterd this issue. And I am struggling trying to solve this problem. If you have resolved this issue and I guess you must've, because this post is two years old, could you kindly post how you resolved this issue?
    Thanks in advance

In tnsnames.ora file in host part whether we have to specify host name or host IP Address?
    ORION.SSAPL01=
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = [b]sagardomain.SSAPL01)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
    or HOST = 10.15.1.111

  • How to create dynamic connection string with variables using ssis.

    Hello,
Can anyone let me know on how to create dynamic connection string with variables using ssis?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi vinay9738,
According to your description, you want to connect multiple database from multiple servers using dynamic connection.
If in this case, we can create a Table in our local database (whatever DB we want) and load all the connection strings.  We can use Execute SQL Task to query all the connection strings and store the result-set in a variable of object type in SSIS package.
Then use ForEach Loop container to shred the content of the object variable and iterate through each of the connection strings. And then Place an Execute SQL task inside ForEach Loop container with the SQL statements we have to run in all the DB instances.
For more details, please refer to the following blog:

If there are any other questions, please feel free to let me know.
