PS 12; Still no paint mixing palette?

Wow, love the new brushes in CS5 and the new rotate canvas tool. And the performance on a MacBook Pro with a Cintiq? = WOW!
BUT, (here it comes)... 21 years later, I'm still left wanting a paint-mixing palette. I'm trying out the new demo and can't find one. I can't believe Adobe would build all these nice new brushes, even a new blending/mixing brush, yet have no palette for mixing paint.
PS has been my primary tool since 1989, and I would love to abandon Fractal/Corel-Painter once-and-for-all. I would also love to ditch the toggle-two-canvases kludge. I like to work in full-screen mode which disallows two canvases (painting and mixing-palette) on screen simultaneously. And I don't want to mix paint in a corner of my canvas. A dedicated mixing palette is pretty fundamental, in my view.
Did I miss something? (I searched Help, Support, and the Forums; no joy). Or is this indeed a glaring oversight?

PS 12 isn't a painting application. It lacks a lot.
Performance is not acceptable. With my intuos4 and the newest drivers, rotating the canvas or resizing brushed with the touch ring is not usable.
You slide along the ring and the canvas still is turning 10 seconds later. Jeeezz! If you work in full screen mode or just hit the tab key to hide the palettes, the problem goes away. But then you won't have access to the options bar for the brush settings. You'll have to switch back and forth. Did every anyone try this at Adobe? Heck, if I'd produce such low quality work, I'd have run out of customers before I started.

I make a series of say 3 or 4 still jpg images as titles for my movie. All with identical background but with different text. When I drag them to the timeline the first one persists but the others in the sequence will not show when I play them in the preview window. This does not happen if the images are completley different. Renaming the files has no effect. What is happening?

I understand what you mean about the appearance of movie clips in the timeline, I don’t think that is the problem. With every other video editor I have used if I drag a number of still images into the timeline they will all behave like separate clips for however longer I want them and they will each show up in the timeline and in the preview window as I scrub along. At the moment instead of a mini movie of 4 still images I get a movie of the first image in the line repeated for times. The other image files are named in the timelinebut cannot be viewed in the edit and they don’t appear in the saved movie I am doing something wrong somewhere.

Appleworks Drawing & Painting: Color palettes *still* getting scrambled

I have a problem when using Appleworks drawing files with painting frames.
An Appleworks painting frame normally has two color palettes. One comes from the Drawing document, and this determines the background color of the painting frame. Anywhere that has no other color has this color. The other comes from the painting frame itself.
When clicking into the painting frame, both of these can get scrambled, with unpredictable results. In some cases, although both the drawing document and the painting frame used the same [presentation] palette, and the background color and another color were supposed to be the same, one could switch to another color. I started resetting the background color of each painting frame to white [in the drawing document], and filling it with whatever color I needed [in the painting frame] which solved one of the problems.
However, I'm still facing the annoying problem that the color palette gets scrambled. When I click into the Painting Frame, the color palette scrambles. If I start painting, it gets screwed up. If I switch the palette from presentation, to something else, back to presentation, that fixes it for the moment. If I click out of the painting frame, and then back into it, or click from one painting frame into another painting frame, the color palette scrambles again. I have to switch the palette twice each time I enter the frame.
Is there any way to correct this problem?

The earliest version of AppleWorks stable in OS X is 6.2.4. That you're using 6.2.2 could be a big part of the problem. Since AppleWorks was designated "end-of-life" it is difficult to find the updaters (especially the US/North American) on Apple's site. Here is the page with the links I have for the 6.2.9 updater. The page has a link to the North American updater in the upper right (the blue 15.8 MB) & links to other languages further down.

Whenever you do an update, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
To Repair permissions, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.

Duplicating real paint mixing

Hi,
I'm currently in a color theory class where we're using paints to create chromatic gray scales. So basically, you mix complimentary colors to create a neutral/gray color. For example, if you mix green paint and red paint, you will get a dark gray color. How do you do this in Illustrator? The only thing I could think of was opening the gradient window and choosing red for one side and green for the other. This creates a nice gradient between the two complimentary colors. However, the middle color created in Illustrator is NOT gray. It's just a light color and when I mix real paints, it is a very dark gray color. Also, are there any existing swatches that already do what I need? I've searched all the swatches and haven't found it. It seems like it would be the most basic color swatch and I'd think it would already exist somewhere.
The main reason I'm asking is that I'd like to do my color design in Illustrator before I actually use real paints. Obviously, additive color is not the same as subtractive color, but I was hoping there was a way I could do this.

Positive…yes it displays a result by that is actually a blending condition not an overprint. The only way you can physically run an overprint on press with process colors is to run it twice or on an eight color press and I doubt you would get this result.
This is two different CMYK swatches one set to overprint. The intersecting shape is an average of the two colors not an overprint even if the lighter green was printed on press with a second se of CMYK inks that intersecting color is not happening.
If you make the lighter green a spot color you can overprint it. And you would get something like this in actuality.
However you are correct in that if printed in CMYK as process the above would print fine but there would be no physical overprint.
So my point is the overprint is not intended for this type of blending and it is not going to give the result that might be desired.

I'm currently putting together a drawing document using multiple painting frames. I'm happy to use one color palette - the presentation palette - throughout, but Appleworks keeps scrambling the colors.
This happens each time I switch between the drawing document and the painting frames, or between two painting frames. The effect is to change some of the colors in the palette, and in the document too. At times a completely different palette appears, under the same presentation heading. Two places which are supposed to have the same color, and the same cell in the palette, get different colors, using the same cell of the palette.

Deactivated audio role still in export mix

I have a project with dialogue, sfx, Guide Narration. They all have sererate roles applied. I have added a stereo master soundmix with a 'Fullmix' Role applied.
I have de-activated all audio roles, other than the Fullmix Role. When I listen to the Project I hear only the Fullmix, but when I export a movie, all the tracks are present in the two channel audio of the exported movie. How can I create a Fullmix only Quicktime movie, with detaching and deleting all the unused audio from the timeline?

Exporting a Master File works, if you select Multitrack Audio, and then delete all the roles you want off. However, when exporting directly to Vimeo or Youtube, you do not have this audio option. FCPX either needs the option added to the Sharing Export, or better yet the export default stereo output should reflect the activated/deactivated roles in the Project - as it plays out when viewing

No Genius mixes in itunes for ipod classic

I own an ipod classic and although Genius is ON in itunes, i cannot see any genius mixes in itunes and of course not on my ipod either. I used to see it but after one upgrade of itunes it just disappeard.
I keep updating Genius but still no genius mixes. Apple people please help

iTunes 11 looks a little different than the previous versions of iTunes, and I'm wondering if you do not see the Genius Mixes because the Sidebar is hidden. You can follow these steps to bring back the sidebar in iTunes:
Show Sidebar - Choose View > Show Sidebar (this feature will display iTunes features on the left side of the application including Library, Store, Shared, Genius, and Playlists).

Is " stereo mix" missing in your windows 7 on late 2009 imac 24 or 27 ?

I have a imac 27 running Windows 7 64bit and no stereo mix option.
I am a professor and when I do screen capture of scientific clips I need I can't get audio to record except by the imac mic from the speakers rather than directly.
That destroys the sound quality.
I have tried to download other sound card drivers and still no stereo mix recording or stereo mix playing options in sound!
I have the fairly useless digital audio s/pdif but not the stereo mix which is really needed in all kinds of recording applications.
I also downloaded the cirrus logic drivers shown in another thread for macbook users, but still no stereo mix.
Any idea for a fix?
This is an important basic function for any computer, and I can't understand why this is not supported yet?
Apple has used bootcamp to attract Windows users who want to use Windows natively. This is one of the most basic function, full audio capability.
This problem as well the cpu going 20 percent higher just plugging in a headphone, and the fact that the trrs headphone jack does not work on a trrs headset in windows 7 (including mic) is a real negative. The trrs headset like the iphone headset works fine with its mic in the mac side but not in windows side.
Drivers to make the basic hardware in an imac or macbook work in windows 7 shouldn't be rocket science. We need apple support or an innovative person out there to solve these problems.
If anyone reading this has the stereo mix on the w7 side, please let me know on this thread and maybe I can duplicate it on mine.
If not, we know this problem exists for every windows 7 bootcamp user.

How to preserve mixed case in Data Dictionary

Hi,
I am very new to Oracle, please excuse in advance for silly questions.
Using Oracle 9i R2, SQL Developer 1.51.5440.
I don't know if it's Oracle DB or The SQL Developer tool, but the names of the object I create are all transformed in uppercase. Table name, column names, procedure names all are displayed in uppercase. And yet I make sure when I created them to use carefully mixed case to improve readability. Example: ProductID, MyTable, etc.
I've gone over the options of SQL Developer, but I didn't see any option to turn off the automatic uppercase. Some objects still remains in mixed case, for example the content of a procedure still looks like when I typed it.
Is there a way to get the object names to be displayed exactly as I created them?

Ok, now I see, make senses that everybody keeps using uppercase. I have tried this:
CREATE TABLE "MyTable" ("Col1" number not null, "Col2" varchar2(20) not null)
And indeed, even SELECT * FROM MyTable would not work, I have to reference the table by SELECT * FROM "MyTable"
FYI, in SQL Server, object names are case-insensitive. The name saved in the data dictionary is exactly how you type them. In the queries, constraints, indexes, etc., you can reference to the object name by any case. I find this way more convenient.
One more question, in the current schema I am working on, where all object names are uppercase. How come I can still make a query with any case?
For example if I type in SQL Developer: SELECT ProdUCTID, PrOduCTNaMe FROM T_proDuCT ;
The query executes OK although I'd expect Oracle would complain about table not found. So are the following rules correct?
1. If the object name was saved with double quote, Oracle will preserve the case and the object should always be referenced WITH double quote and the exact case.
2. If the object name was save without double quote, Oracle will uppercase the name and the object can be reference by any case.

Unexpected behavior with data control palette after migration to 10.1.3

I recently migrated my adf/struts app to 10.1.3 from 10.1.2.
The app compiles and runs fine in jdev, and the migration had no errors.
When I try to drag and drop attributes from the data control palette onto an existing (or new) page I get the you cant drop that here icon circle with a line through it.
This happens on all my pages and for every attribute in the data control including actions.
Is this the intended behavior? In 10.1.2 there was a section that asked if it should be dropped as a label or text field etc, I dont see that option anymore.
I can still use the component palette  JSTL 1.0 core out and drag that onto the page and then bind the value to binding.attname. this works fine.
In 10.1.3 faces I see that when I drag and drop I get a popup menu which shows the available type of component to drop the item as.
Is this the correct behavior or am I missing something?
I'm using jdev version 10.1.3.0.4 (SU2)

So as far as I can tell the issue bioled down to having something wrong with my libraries definition. When would go to the project properties the libraries tab would not show correctly, I was able to remove some libraries and then add them back in. This made the libraries tab in the project properties work, and as a side effect fixed the data control drag and drop.

Sous garantie, j'ai donc demandé à AppleCare de changer la pièce défectueuse.
Ils ont refusé en siginifiant que les aspects esthétiques n'étaient pas considérés dans la garantie.
Hors, il n'existe à ce jour, aucune mention signifiant cette exclusion de garantie dans les clauses APPLE.
J'ai dû donc écrire une lettre très officielle à Apple les conjurant de changer la pièce sous garantie.

Less than 6 months after the purchase of my PowerBook, it arose a defect into the trap which surrounds the keyboard, just below the touch option / apple of the keyboard. The painting flaked.

Under guarantee, I thus asked AppleCare to change the defective piece.
They refused and said to me that the aesthetic aspects were not considered in the guarantee.
Except, it doesn't exist no mention meaning this exclusion from APPLE guarantee.
I thus had to write a very official letter to Apple begging them to change the piece under guarantee.
I wait for the answer...

I'm having the same problem, and I really don't see how this doesn't fall under the "workmanship" clause of the warranty. I for one am really dumbfounded that even after the TiBook fiasco Apple still uses paint at all, which can never be permanent by its very nature. What's so different about this strip of metal that it can't be aluminum anyway?
Any news here? I for one am also going to try and get this fixed by Apple, for free. Ridiculous. Factory cosmetic defect fully within the warranty. You should not be able to damage your computer by wiping it with your finger, as I did.

Why the painted content flash and disappear?

I try to run a simple code example from java almanac site but the painted content just flash and disappear. Can any people help to find the reason? Thanks in advance.

How to remove stubborn colors in Indesign and Illustrator swatch palette

Hello,
There are actually two issues I have with colors in Illustrator and Indesign: One is to remove unused colors in the swatch palette. After I make sure all colors are correctly used in my file, I will select "unused colors" to get rid of extraneous colors but the unused colors still appears in the palette. Second, a color is used in the file (e.g. color designated not to print) but somehow it doesn't appear in the swatch palette until I select "show added colors" in the option pull down menu and instantaneously, it reappears in the palette. How does one hide the color while it is clearly used in the file.
Does anyone have answers to these puzzling issues?

Thanks! I'll try the methods in the link you've provided but do you know the answer to the second question which is clicking on the "new add colors" in the option view. I've seen this happen in several instances where the actual color is being used but it's not visible until you select "new added colors". Keep in mind that this designated color (a process color of magenta) is intended not to print because it's a callout for dieline.
I presumed the creator of this file main purpose is to reveal colors that are printing but hide non-printed colors like magenta dieline in the swatch palette.

How to always show palettes?

I don't like the fact that Dreamweaver CS4 always hides all it palettes when I change to another application.
How can I force Dreamweaver to still show all the palettes and windows when I change to another application?
I'm working in Mac OS X 10.5.8.

I believe my computer and its account are healthy. I just bought the mac pro with solid state and the only programs I have installed are the Master Collection CS5.
I have good news though - After two months of waiting, I was finally able to speak with Adobe specialists yesterday and they changed the shortcut for Save As that Photoshop ships with from Command + Alt + S to Command + Shift + S - and miraculously now Photoshop appends extensions!!!
However, my question about always displaying rulers remains. We got disconnected and I didn't have a chance to ask them (I was on hold for an hour and a half!)
