PS Elements 10 and Aperture 3

When I try to open a new photos in PS Elements that is located in Aperture, I get a programing error "Could not complete your request because of program error" Any idead? I think it is more fo a PS issue but not sure.
I can open a folder outside of PSE and drag it into PSE and it works, it just will not let me open by going to file, open, Aperture Library.

Thanks for responding. I am only two weeks new to Macs. I have been using PCs for over 25 years and now I feel dumb all over.
I just wanted to open a photo that was imported into Aperture with Photoshop Elements. I guess I need to browse to another location to find them? When I browse and the Aperture Library is displayed, I just assumed that is where the files where located.

  • Photoshop elements and aperture

How do I edit using PS elements - I went to preferences, chose PS elements as the external editor, but the image stays in aperture and I can not seem to get the image in a place to edit using PSE. I have tried double clicking on the picture but that does not get to PSE.
    Thank you

Have you found a fix for this yet?
I use Aperture with Photoshop Elements 6.
    My example:
I have an original image say 20081212-33.jpg or 20081212-33.nef, in Aperture. I use referenced files.
Aperture will then create 20081212-33.tiff, and PE launches and I edit the image.
The problem comes with the save. Elements acts as if it needs a new filename. The one it suggests is usually 20081212.tif.
Right there is already a problem: PE uses a different extension from Aperture.
If I go ahead and save the file PE wants, it never shows up in Aperture.
If I click on the copy Aperture made, that works, but only on the first edit.
If I later decide to edit 20081212-33.tiff, Aperture doesn't create a new file for PE to use. I either overwrite the existing file (which can sometimes seem to screw things up in Aperture if I edit metadata), or I have to manually import an image I save somewhere like the desktop.
I can understand Aperture not creating a new file the second time. You already have an edited file so it assumes you want to edit again.
However, it would be nice if there were some way to make PE use the same extension.
Also, I frequently tell Aperture to make PSD files instead. Then when I'm done I want to add a final version to the stack in Aperture, and there is no convenient way to do that.
    Any ideas appreciated.
It's not unworkable, it's just a little clunky.

  • How to remove duplicate photos with Elements and Revel?

While on vacation this year, I uploaded pictures from my camera to my iPad to Revel.  When I got home, I copied all of the pictures from my camera to my harddrive on my laptop and imported them into Elements 12.  On my laptop I store photos in subdirectories like this:  \Lisa\albums\Pictures201509.  I found duplicates of most of my photos in \Users\Owner\My Pictures\Adobe\Revel\My Catalog Old.  I would like to clean these up so I only have once copy of each photo on my harddrive.
    I have 3 questions:
    Why did this happen?
How can I clean this up and not complete mess up my Elements and Revel catalogs?
How can I prevent this in the future?
    thanks,
    Lisa

The folks at www.overmacs.com/photosweeper told me that they are upgrading their product so it will work with Apple Photos.  It works now with iPhoto and Aperture.  It has many adjustments to detect same name files, and even same or similar content images.  Monitor their website for a future release.  There is a small fee for the pro version, which is well worth the price.

  • Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, and Nik Software playing together

I have Photoshop Elements 10 and number of plugins, like Topaz Labs ones. I have also just acquired Lightroom. I do want to get CS5 eventually but that is not in the near future.
I am thinking of getting Nik Software's Complete Collection. It does not support Elements 10, but it does support Lightroom. So solution seems easy, just use it in Lightroom. That solution could also result in $200 saving as edition that includes support for Photoshop and Lightroom is right now $399 while one that supports just Lightroom (and Aperture but that is not of relevance to me as I am a Windows user) is $199.
However, I do not want to lose benefits of other plugins I have so going with solely Lightroom edition means increased going back and forth between Photoshop and Lightroom.
So question for those experienced with 3 of these together: Do you foresee issues with getting edition that just supports Lightroom? What things I might feel are missing / might frustrate me with this approach?

I purchased the complete Suite from Nik and use it with Lightroom and it has worked well for me. Of course, I spend 95% of my time in LR3 and only use PSE for occassional tweaks like cloning etc. The Nik package offers a lot of functionality, esp when added to all that is aready available through LR3.

  • Comparing iPhoto 09 and Aperture 2

I am giving a presentation on iPhoto and Aperture. Is anyone aware of a comparison table showing the significant differences? It does not need to be too sophisticated, just the basic differences.
I stopped using a iPhoto a few years ago when I moved to Aperture, in part because of the horrendous filing system at the time. iPhoto 09 is very different from the program I abandoned and has certainly closed the gap - no doubt some of the features will make their way into Aperture 3.0, when that appears. Anyway, I was hoping someone could show me where I could find a basic features comparison which I could use to show participants.
    Many thanks,
    Graham

Some Differences between Aperture and iPhoto.
iPhoto is firmly focussed on the Domestic market, especially on the Point and Shoot user. Aperture is aimed squarely at the Professional shooting RAW. This pretty much explains the differences.
Aperture has much higher hardware requirements than iPhoto. iPhoto may use more disk space (though with high quality Previews in Aperture there may be little difference). Put it this way: the principle difference in terms of Hardware is that iPhoto will run comfortably on any machine Apple makes.
Aperture has much better fine control over Processing Raws, though it uses the same engine for this as iPhoto. However, iPhoto can process and edit RAWs too. iPhoto can send a RAW file to an external editor, which Aperture cannot. The both support exactly the same RAW formats, and the same file formats.
iPhoto neither reads nor writes all of the IPTC data that Aperture does. But it can write to the Exif (date and time) and it can write to the IPTC (Title, Keywords and Caption) on Export. Aperture is much stronger in this area.
iPhoto has better slideshows, especially in iPhoto 09, with six different styles, much better slideshow exports options too, up to HD quality - actually any Slideshow export is better than Aperture’s
Books are limited by Template in iPhoto, all elements of a book are editable in Aperture. Aperture has no support for printing Calendars and other items.
Aperture has much better support for Referenced Libraries. Running iPhoto in Referenced Mode is tricky, especially when the Originals are stored on a different volume. There is no easy mechanism for re-connecting Originals and therefore migrating to a new volume or even a new machine can be a bear. Aperture is much better for processing and managing large numbers of files. That said, iPhoto is good for 250k images, and we’ve seen reports over on the iPhoto forum of Libraries in excess of 100k. Users report some performance issues.
Both are integrated throughout the OS and in the same ways. They have limited integration with each other.
I smile when folks refer to iPhoto’s “convoluted” filing system. This impression comes from people trying to access the files via the Finder. Have you ever looked inside an Aperture Library?

  • Using Elements with Aperture?

I recently signed up for the Elements free trial. I can see in Aperture where Elements is the external editor and can then open Elements accordingly. Problem I have is "how do I then get the picture(s) I want to edit into Elements (and, therefore, back to Aperture). At the moment the trial is a waste of my time. Does anyone have any ideas?

To edit an image in PSE from Aperture you need to set PSE as an external editor.
Please keep it in mind that you are selecting correct application file from Aperture preference.
Please refer this below screen shot.

  • Adobe photoshop elements vs aperture 1.5

which among this would be a perfect alternative for the iPhoto? i need something that won't be too much of a RAM hog but with loads of photo editing capabilities.
adobe cs3 is way over my budget.
    1. adobe photoshop elements
    2. aperture 1.5
    3. lightroom
    thanks.

Well I'll just say go with Aperture cuz I love it and it runs pretty darn well on my MacBook and should run better on yours.
But for the real answer: This is though and the decision (between the same 3 programs) I made at the beginning of this year.
1st: None is perfect, it's scientifically impossible for a photo editing program to be perfect (does everything, easy to use and has low hardware requirements)
I think if you've outgrown iPhoto that Lightroom or Aperture will be best. Elements is good and is kind of like a mini CS3. Here's also the fact that (I'm pretty sure of this, please correct me otherwise) that Elements is not a universal app, mean it runs under Apples Rosetta technology and will be slower.
As far as Aperture vs Lightroom, well we could spend a decade on this one, but I'll help make it easier. LR (ligtroom) has somewhat better adjustment tools than Ap (Aperture). Ap has better organizational tools than LR. Ap also integrates tightly into you Mac life. Lr does run better on lower end hardware.
Both programs offer 30 trials and I suggest playing with those. Also I chose Ap because I felt constrained by Adobe's module system. I also felt it's overall interface was just too dark and not customizable enough. However I am kind of biased in this and it would be good to hear from others. It would be good for you to go over to O'Reilly's Inside Aperture and Inside Lightroom blogs. http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/ (click the links on the right)

I purchased Photoshop Elements and Premiere package today.  I have been trying to download them but it tells me the serial numbers are inapplicable.  I am using a mac book pro and I have just noticed that the platform in my receipt says 'win" .  I don't remember being given an option for mac or windows  when purchasing.  what can i do now?

  • What do i do with a very slow Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements on a PC?

I seem to be getting mixed opinions as to why my Adobe software gets so slow, despite efforts to avoid that, but my computer seems to be working just fine, it is only when in Adobe that the problems arise, like freezing, taking longer and longer periods of time to open the screen to edit a photo, or to compare two photos side by side.  Any process seems to take such a long time, and the freezing can last for several minutes, and then continue on.    I have had a computer person come to my house and examine my computer and though his knowledge of Photoshop is limited, he feels that it is NOT the computer but something with Adobe Photoshop.  I would tend to agree with him.
Several theories have been explained to me, such as Elements and Premiere Elements are a low end of the scale of Photoshop programs, so it is just not going to be able to process high definition large photos well and quickly.  Stating comments like i can only use 2 GB of my memory even though i have 8 GB, so unless i can use 64 bit this is what i have to deal with, and it is just a way for Photoshop to say you need to upgrade to the fancier programs.  I do not need fancier programs.  I am working hard to master these, and have accomplished 4 great blu rays in high definition thanks to recommendations from the Forum here, especially Steve with the help of his books.
Others say i need a solid state hard drive to solve the problem.  Others say the only way i will ever solve the problem is to switch to a MAC.  Others state is a mal-ware problem, but i have never had my hard drive so clean and uncluttered.  I supposedly have as good of PC as i could have as far as QUAD-core, 8GB memory, presently a 1 TB hard drive less than 1/2 full.   All suggestions involve big outlays of money, with no guarantee that things will be any better.  I have tried to contact different computer companies and computer 'nerds', and these are some of the suggestions, but no one really has a lot of knowledge of the Photoshop software.
I am thinking of adding an additional internal hard drive, but not sure that is going to help either.  Could i put all my Photoshop of the second hard drive, and might that speed things up?
Adobe is rather worthless in trying to get help from them.  I have spent hours on the phone waiting and then talking to someone who says they understand English but they do NOT understand the question i am asking, which becomes very frustrating with repeat phone calls.  I gave up yesterday trying to do that challenging experience yesterday after i had spent 3 times the amount of time they said i would need to wait to get a reply, and i was at work, and my free time had come to an end.  So i am hoping you guys can give me some clues of the best thing to do.
Is it true that Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements are just such a lower end program that trying to do things in high definition, with 2000x1500 photos, making them into a blu ray disc is a major challenge with a PC?  I wish i had a greater computer knowledge, but i have struggled to achieve my goal, but the speed of it all gets very frustrating, though it is possible.
Another question asked which i don't think exists, is whether there is a program that could clean up Photoshop, or are there some clues that could accomplish that and thereby speed things up.
Would appreciate any suggestions anyone has.  I am in the middle of another project so now is probably not the best time to consider any major changes.  But any comments would be appreciated.
    Ron

Premiere Elements 10 is now 64 bit, but not PSE10.
Take a look at your scratch disk set-up and if you have a spare volume, allocate that first before the C drive. Elements use scratch disks when it gets low on RAM.
Turn off face recognition and the auto-analyzer to improve performance.
When editing photos or videos check the task manager to see what background processes may be running and end them temporarily if not needed.

  • Print quality difference between iphoto and aperture...?

when ordering books, is there a print quality difference between using iPhoto and Aperture? or are they sent to the same lab?
it's possible i may have some setting wrong, but when i order a book using iphoto, i never really feel the quality is that great. it's good, i just feel it could be a lot better. the print quality sort of reminds me of newsprint, albeit high quality newsprint. similar sized prints made at home on my basic 3-in-1 printer look better.
    thanks...

Previews are what you view on your display. When you import a photo into Aperture (and I'm pretty sure iPhoto as well), your computer automatically generates a preview for quick viewing. The original images are stored in your library, but it is the preview that you see.
In Aperture, you are able to set the size and quality of these previews. When sharing photos between Aperture and iPhoto, the process is as follows:
Let's say that your images are stored in Aperture, but you also want to be able to view them in iPhoto without taking up too much room on your hard drive. Essentially, if you were to import the originals into iPhoto as well, you would be storing two exact, yet separate copies of the same image on your hard drive. As you are aware, with large images (whether JPEG's, and especially RAW) this would put quite a tax on your storage capacity after not too long.
So, you have your images in one or the other (in this case Aperture), but you want to play around with them in iPhoto. What you can do, is open iPhoto, go to the File menu and then select, Show Aperture Library. This will open a window with all of the contents of your Aperture Library. You can then drag any images you want into iPhoto . The only thing is, you are not dragging the original JPEG's, but rather, the previews of those images. If you have those previews set to a lower quality (again for capacity concerns), you will only have lower quality and lower detailed images in iPhoto. These images might not be ideal, or even suitable for printing high quality prints. The previews that you generate in Aperture though can be adjusted to be extremely high quality with no size limits.
My thinking was that since you mentioned Aperture, it sounded like you had experience with working with it and with ordering a photo book through Aperture. I guess you were saying that you ordered via iPhoto, weren't happy with the quality and were wondering if Aperture created books were better.
Anyway, if this is the case, I cannot answer that for you. I have never ordered a book through Aperture. If the quality of your images is good, you should be able to get a decent product no matter where you order it from. There is not doubt that the materials used and the print shop that does the work makes a difference, but if your images are good, you should still get a decent product through iPhoto. Perhaps iPhoto isn't the way to go though if you have had poor experiences with them.
If you haven't used Aperture yet, I would highly recommend it though aside from the photo book aspect of this thread. It is a stellar product.
    I hope this helps.

If you want just the originals, then you can go into the Aperture library (right click on it and do "show package contents"). Inside is a directory called "Masters" and you can find the original files in a bunch of subfolders.
But... you'll lose all adjustments, keywords, and other information, and just have the files as they were imported originally from the cameras.
Easiest is probably to buy Aperture and update everything, and then migrate to the Photos application down the road if that's what you want. Aperture 3.0 came out in 2010 (five years ago!) so it's not like you've upgraded in a while

If it is still slow after removing Symantec, you may need a RAM upgrade. Yosemite can run very poorly on older machines with only 4 GB RAM.

  • IPhone - how to sync with iPhoto and Aperture at the same time ???

I'm having a really hard time with syncing my photos - I'm using iPhoto and Aperture on my Mac. When I launch iTunes and start managing my iPhone, it seems like I should be able to sync photos from a variety of sources all at once (iPhoto, Aperture, other folders).
However, whichever option I select in the photos drop-down becomes the only libraries that are available to sync. What I mean is that if I select some of the Albums in my iPhoto list and sync those, when I later drill down to Aperture and select albums from there and perform a sync - then the previously synced/loaded albums and photos from iPhoto are automatically removed from the iPhone.
Why can't I sync between multiple photo albums / sources at the same time? This is incredibly annoying.

Here's how I solved this problem:
In Aperture, select File -> Import -> iPhoto Library
Then under the "Store Files" dropdown, be sure "In their Original Location" is select. This will allow Aperture to see your iPhoto library, but it will be managed by reference rather than phyisically imported.
Now, in iTunes, select Aperture as the application from which you want to synch photos, and select the option to synch specific albums.
You should be able to see the names of albums in iPhoto as well as those created in Aperture.
