Ps_home and ps_ cfg_home envr variables

i have installed hrms 9.0 and fscm 9.1 on the same machine and have separate PS homes. i have not set my ps_cfg_home. when i run PSADMIN.exe i get both the domains to boot as they are on the same machine and share the same default ps_cfg_home. although i set my ps_home pointing to HRMS, yet when i run psadmin.exe, i don't face any problems in booting fscm domain. (no PS home conflict). checked the logs, they show correct pshome binaries paths for both database. here are my questions -
1) why all is working fine? has it something to do with the path env variable which i set pointing to PS home binaries separately in psappsrv.env file?
2)can i delete my fscm ps_home now, if yes what things i should keep in my mind or what changes will i need to make?

1) or has it something to do with the templates which psadmin.exe brings from ps_home that mapps the configuration to each other? if i am not wrong, psadmin.exe brings the templates from the ps_home it is executed?
2) by delete ps_home, i mean deleting pshome of fscm and want to use the tools and binaries of hrms for fscm!

How many ways to read and write a local variable in a called VI?

I'm producing my first TestStand sequence. It is called "FirstAttempt" and it is made by a single step which calls a VI. One of the first dilemmas i encountered realizing this sequence is how to read and write a local variable (created going in Variables -> Locals ('FirstAttempt') -> <right click to insert local>) in the called VI.
The first way (the only one i tried) is to create a control and an indicator on the VI front panel, connect them to their respective terminals in the connector pane and then specify (going in Step Settings -> Module) that these connectors (shown in the Parameter Name column) are linked to the local variable (selected in the Value column).
The second way (not tried) consists in using TestStand API: create a Sequence Context reference on the VI front panel, link it to a property node in the block diagram, select the property "Locals" and extract from this the local variable name and value which, i think, can be readable and writable.
So...
Are the shown ways correct?
Are there other ways?
Knowing that a "local" variable can be considered "global" within the whole sequence, is there the possibility to simply create a reference to the local variable and use the reference in the called VI block diagram in order to save space in the connector pane (if using method 1) or in the block diagram (if using method 2)?

Hi,
Before TestStand 3 you would use the second way you quoted as its the only way.
But now you would use the first way you quoted. You may still what to pass the SequenceContext if you were going to use the TestStand API. For TestStand 3.x and above you would use this way as the first chose. (Personnelly, I would not pass the SequenceContext into a VI if I know it was never going to be used in that VI.)
Not sure I understand your final comment, maybe you are liking it to passing the reference of a control to a subVI so that the control can be updated from within the subVI.
If this is the case and you had a situation where you had a step that was running in parallel with the rest of the steps in the sequence either as a separate thread or execution and were dependent on the contents of the local variable changing from that parallel running step, then you would have to use the API SetVal method to change the local.

With session.setAttribute("name",object) you can store a Attribute in the session object.
with session.getAttribute("name") you can get it.

I am having V_Flatfilename variable
in ssis package which is used to store the filepath with file name in sql table.
I want to get only filename and give to another variable using expression

How to define and work with bind-variables without the dialog-box ?

I want to select different tables with the same bind_variables,
but do want not fill the bind-variables-dialogbox

I do use an 10 years old low-end sql / plsql-tool where I can simple and fast do sql-things like that:

I would like to use oracles SQL-Developer instead of this 'old' tool,
and want to use my 'old' sql / plsql scripts
but the SQL-Developer in this matter seems is to much complicate to use,
I can do complex and big things with sql-dev,
but not simple using bind-variables ;-)( .

My guess variable is variable in of type int and ON is a preprocessor command. Therefore it is a mismatch and complier doesn't like it. How can I get around this.

What is the exact message of the compiler?
I think the error is, that the compiler does not find the definition of ON
and OFF. Is it in the same source file?
If not, try to put it into an .h file and include it where you need it.

How do i create and pass a global variable from one vi to several sub-vi's?

I am trying to create a program that opens several front panels (sub-VI's) in sequence. in each front panel, the user would open a file that the name is obtained from the previous sub-VI. I would like to know how i could pass the filename and refnum of the file thorough from one sub-vi to another. A global variable would do it in VB, but how do we do global vars in LABWIEW. thanks

I put together a sample VI and Sub VI that illustrates how to pass a Refnum and access a data file while in a Sub VI.
For multiple VIs just repeat the sub VI process.
You probably don't wanna use a Global Variable if not needed (can add to the mess down the road haha).
Let me know if it helps you out! Or if I can clarify anything else!

How to pass a function with the same argument multiple times and return values in variables?

The problem I have is I created a function which really is some kind of database. Basically a bunch of:

Inside the form are 2 dropdown lists that return numerical values which I want to process through that function and put the return value inside separate variables.

Doing so, I always get the last processing twice as the final result.
Can I use a function as a batch processing tool that way?

i need to be able to input a string and then assign it to a variable, entirely using the console window, basically i'm looking for the Java alternative to C++'s "cin"

i've tried the System.in. method That thing is not a method: it's an object, an intstantiation of the InputStream
class. If you read the API documentation for that class you'll notice that it
isn't much more sophisticated than C's file IO. You can wrap an
object if this class in a more high level class (see InputStreamReader
and BufferedReader).
The latter allows you to read an entire line of characters. If you really want
to go fancy you can wrap the first class in a Scanner which is only
available in Java 1.5

Data services with SQL Server 2008 and Invalid time format variable

Hi all
Recently we have switched from DI on SQL Server 2005, to DS(Date Services) on SQL Server 2008. However I have faced an odd error on the query that I was running successfully in DI.
I validate my query output using a validation object to fill either Target table (if it passes), or the Target_Fail table (if it fails). Before sending data to the Target_Fail table, I map the columns using a query to the Target_Fail table. As I have a column called 'ETL_Load_Date' in that table, which I should fill it with a global variable called 'Load_Date'. I have set this global variable in the script at the very first beginning of the job. It is a data variable type:
$Load_Date = to_char(sysdate(),'YYYY.MM.DD');
When I assign this global variable to a datetime data type cloumn in my table and run the job using Data Services, I get this error:
error message for operation <SQLExecute>: <[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid time format>.
However I didn't have this problem when I was running my job on the SQL Server 2005 using Data Integrator. The strange thing is that, when I debug this job, it runs completely successfully!!

The ETL_Date is a datetime column and the global variable is date data type. I have to use the to_char() function to be able to get just the date part of the current system datetime. Earlier I had tried date_part function but it returns int, which didn't work for me.
I found what the issue was. I don't know why there were some little squares next to the name of the global variable which I had mapped to the ETL_Date in the query object!!! The format and everything was OK, as I had the same mapping in other tables that had worked successfully.
When I deleted the column in the query object and added it again, my problem solved.
