PSE 10 Raw files

Why has my PSE 10 stopped opening RAW file images from my D800? The first set of photos taken on D800 opened fine in PSE 10 with RAW 6.7. Now with same camera, the same RAW files are not recognised by PSE! Comparing individual photo formats between earlier shots and current ones appear to be the same when right clicking on 'properties'. I have the same problem with Lightroom 4.1.
Photos are transferred from camera to PC using Nikon Transfer. I have Windows Ultimate 64 bit.

Thanks for your help. The Nikon sotware was of no help - though VNX2 or Capture NX2 opened the files they couldn't convert.
Having never used recovery software I was sceptical about their efficacy but tried a couple of free trial recovery software which between them took several hours, only ended up with JPEG files and not original NEF and one of them had my CPU crunching at over 50% with resultant high temps and then at the end of the exercise required payment to use the files! I eventually remembered that Lexar had a specific photo recovery software (my CF card is Lexar Pro) and downloaded Lexar Image Rescue 4 - and it worked a dream, recovering over 1250 files. Not all of them fully intact and not recognised by PSE/Lightroom and all files had both NEF and JPEG version, the latter of only some minor use if NEF file corrupted. Nevertheless I have managed to end up with some 500 plus proper NEF files each with all the 40MB plus info contained in it for processing & editing. And I didn't need to pay for the Lexar software as my card is from same manufacturer!
I have eventually identified the source of my problem. Before the purchase of the D800 I had another Nikon camera (D300) and used the regular Nikon software, particularly the Nikon Transfer for downloading from camera to PC. With the new D800 came updated software for VNX, i.e.VNX2, but the main change is that Nikon Transfer is launched from within VNX2 and isn't supplies a a seperate peice of software. The first couple of batches of photos from my new camera was done by opening VNX2 and then launching Nikon Transfer - these are the downloaded photos which can be opened in both PSE & Lightroom. Subsequent downloads from my camera were done directly using the seperate Nikon Transfer software - these are the photos which seem to be corrupted in some way (though nothing obvious) and though they open in Transfer, VNX2 and Nikon Capture they are not recognised by PSE & Lightroom. And here's the nub - the version of Nikon Transfer in VNX2 is a 2. something version whilst the separate standalone Transfer is version 1.5.3 (the latest available from Nikon website)! Why this should make a difference I don't know but other Nikon and Adobe users beware.

  • Can't import Canon S 50 Raw Files to PSE 4.0.1 in Mac 10.5.2

Help. I'm transitioning from OS9.1 to 10.5.2. I brought my Firewire card reader and several CF cards of RAW CRW images from my Canon S 50 to the Apple store 2 months ago and was able to open them in PSE 4. Based on this I purchased an Aluminum 24" imac, put in 4GB of RAM and ordered Photoshop Elements 4. Reading the Adobe forums, two things were advised: upgrade to 4.0.1 and upgrade the RAW converter to v4.3.1. I did both and am unable to import the RAW CRW files from my Canon via CF card. They appear in Bridge, but do not open in Elements 4.0.1 . Have I done something wrong? My goal is to archive the files, but also convert them to DNG. Is the 4.3.1 upgrade wrong for these first generation Canon RAW files? I've scanned the archive prior to posting, and have posted to the PS Elements site. They suggested I ask advice here, as I've followed there upgrade advice and it didn't work. Thanks in advance. Paul

The download did say it is for Photoshop Elements 4. That is what has me so confused. I can't find where Adobe lists what specific Camera RAW files each upgrade will work with. I'm wondering if I should have stayed with the original PSE 4 RAW converter rather than doing the upgrade? If I do go back, will the older DNG conversion still work with more modern software in the future? I just purchased Elements4 for Mac because I tested it at the Apple store and it worked in OS 10.5.1. I hope the 10.5.2 upgrade didn't mess things up? My wife will kill me if I can't produce images of our new grand nephew. We saw him 23 minutes after he was born last month in California! She wants the photos NOW.

  • PSE 7 - ACR 5.5 - Can open Raw files but can't see in Organiser

hi, I've just installed PSE 7 on my new Windows 7 (64 bit) Dell and have replaced the ACR with 5.5 and can open all images, including my CR2 files from my Canon 50d.  Although I can edit them with ACR from PSE the thumbnails are all just greyed out images.  Am I missing a vital piece of the puzzle to get this working properly ?
    Cheers
    Joan

Bennett, when you open a raw file in Camera Raw and finish working on it the choices to click on are Open Image, Cancel, and Done. Which one are you clicking on to close the image in ACR? Cancel will do just that. Cancel the changes and the 16/8 bit setting will not be kept. The other two choices (Open Image and Done) will maintain the changes you made and the 16/8 bit setting and the color space should stick for the next image.

  • How to open Canon 5D Mark III Raw files in PSE 9? [was:Updates]

I am unable to unpdate my PS E2 PSE 9 to support my Canon 5D III.  I am using a laptop.  What should I do?

Your CR2 files are not supported in PSE2. You can download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Is there a plug-in that will allow me to view CR2 (raw) files from a Cannon 5D Mark III to PSE 9 ?

is there a plug-in that will allow me to view CR2 (raw) files from a Cannon 5D Mark III to PSE 9 ?

The 5D.3 was first supported in ACR 6.7 which you need PSE 10 to use, so there is no plug-in for PSE9 that will allow opening the files from a camera newer than when PSE9 became obsolete.
Besides getting PSE12, assuming it is supported on your current computer—check the specs, you can use the free DNG Converter available from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
to convert your CR2 files to DNG files that are compatible with older versions of ACR.  Be sure to set your DNGC compatibility settings to a version old enough to be openable with PSE 10’s ACR.
As far as whether the OP is serious, it doesn’t hurt to ask the question before spending money on something you didn’t need.

  • Can't Open NEF RAW files in PSE 6

I cannot open NEF RAW files in PSE 6. I downloaded the plugin but that didn't fix it. Any suggestions?

    There is another choice.
You can download the free Adobe DNG Converter, then convert your RAWs to DNG, and then open them in the PSE6 Adobe Camera Raw editor. This doesn't require you updating your software to PSE9, or purchasing anything.

Since pse 9 can only use up to camera raw 6.5 and the d600 needs at least 7.3 and the d800 needs at least 6.7, you can use the
8.6 adobe dng converter to convert those files to dng copies, which then pse 9 should open.

  • Help opening raw files in PSE 13

    Hello,
I upgraded PSE 13 from PSE 9. I was using PSE 9 with my Nikon 600 (because I couldn't open the 600 raw files in PSE 9) by using the Adobe DNG converter. This was working fine. Since upgrading I can't open any Nikon 600 raw files in PSE 13 nor can I open the converted DNG files. It only recognizes jpeg files. The "Open in Camera Raw" option in the File drop down menu is also grayed out and can't be selected. I've tried the "updates" option from the Help menu and ran the updates, shut down PSE13 and also shut down computer and it still isn't working.  Wondering if I need to download a new ACR but can't find any that support the Nikon 600. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you for your help.
When I do the "Help" drop down menu there isn't an option for "adobe plug-in" just "about plug-in" which doesn't list any options that seem to help when clicking on and none that say Camera raw.
I read the manual instructions for downloading and am currently downloading the zip file; it is about 70% done. Will this help?
    This is what I'm referencing:
These instructions were originally written to install ACR 8.2 for PSE11, but have been updated to install ACR 8.3 with PSE12.  While ACR 8.3 RC would work with PSE11, ACR 8.3 final will not.  Only PSE12 will host ACR 8.3.
ACR 8.3 will work with PSE12 to open 70D files, but on an older Windows OS like Vista or XP  there is no compatible installer, so a manual install is the only option.  I should also say that the process outlined below does work on my Windows 7 64-bit computer, but I also have PS-CS6 and PS-CC installed on it, so it is possible that ACR 8.3 is dependent on something that wouldn't exist on a computer with only PSE installed on it, but someone else will have to confirm that.
I was able to get 70D files to open in ACR 8.3 on PSE12 by doing the following:
Download the ACR 8.3 for Windows update for PS-CC via the direct download link on the Adobe Blog - in the future this link will likely contain links to only newer versions of ACR but the process would be similar:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2011/03/keeping-photoshop-up-to-date.html#notconnected
Unzip this downloaded setup.zip to a folder somewhere.
Inside the files from that zip is a folder called payloads \ AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-031213015928.
(Note that for future versions of PS and ACR the folder name will be different at the end, but the general format shold be similiar, and the important thing is that this is the folder without x64 in the path, because at this point PSE is a 32-bit program so we need the 32-bit version of the plug-in.  At some point in the future, PSExx may be 64-bit and the approporiate file or files could be the 64-bit version for the 64-bit version of PSE.  This zip file is for Photoshop which has both 32-bit and 64-bit versions so there are both versions of the plug-in as well.)
Inside that folder is another ZIP called Assets1_1.zip so unzip it somewhere.
Inside Assets1_1.zip there is a file called 1003.  This is the largest or perhaps only file in that zip and is the plug-in you need.
Copy this 1003 file into the existing PSE12 camera raw plug-in folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats or for a 32-bit Windows OS, into:  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 12\File Formats
Rename the existing Camera Raw.8bi to Camera Raw_8bi_80 (in case something doesn't work and you need to rename it back, later).
    Rename 1003 to Camera Raw.8bi
After these steps you have the ACR 8.3 plug-in installed in PSE12 but not the camera and lens profiles, so install those by downloading and installing the DNG Converter 8.3:

  • Raw file PSE 5

When trying to open a raw file in PSE 5 I receive the following error message “Could not complete your request because the file format module cannot parse the file”
I checked and my camera Nikon D3100 is listed as a supported camera.
    How do I fix this?

Your camera is not supported by PSE 5. You need to download the free Adobe DNG Converter, convert your RAW photos to DNG, and import those into PSE.

  • RAW file processed in PSE doesn't show up in iPhoto library.

I'm new to digital photography and last night decided to process a RAW image for the first time. I opted to select a NEF RAW file in my iPhoto library and process it in PSE 4 for Mac. I did a right click on the image and selected "Edit in external editor." After processing the RAW image I saved it as a DNG file. However, when I returned to my iPhoto library I could find the DNG thumbnail. The NEF thumbnail from which it was derived is there but not the DNG thumbnail. This was totally unexpected, because after editing JPEGs in PSE 4 and saving them I have always found the thumbnails of the edited JPEGs in my iPhoto library alongside the original unedited JPEGs.
I can't do further editing of the DNG image if I can't find it! I would appreciate an explanation by some experienced hand as to what is going on here and how I can make contact with my newly produced DNG image! Also, how do I get it to show up in my iPhoto library?
I noticed that instead of saving the processed RAW file I had the option of opening it, presumably to do further editing in PSE. Had I done so and performed additional editing I would have saved it as a JPEG file. What procedure would I employ to make sure that the JPEG file ends up in the iPhoto library alongside the original RAW file?
    Bob

    Bob
The catch with working on a RAW file is that you cannot save it in its' original format. Your NEF file became a DNG file. iPhoto has no idea that this new file exists, so you'll have to import that to iPhoto.
This is also true any time you use a 'Save As' command.

    TD

  • Raw file edited in Lightroom don't show edited in PSE

I have edited pictures taken in raw format in Lightroom, and imported them later in pse 7. When I import them, they are not edited, but the original file.
How do I make PSE read the edited information instead?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for a very quick reply, and congratulations with passing 1000 postings!
I tested it again, and I upgraded to LR 2.4 today, and it didn't create an .xmp file. I found this article which makes LR create an .xmp file. Now PSE can see the changes I've made in LR.
I tried to install Adobe Camera Raw 5.4, but got an error message "Photoshop Camera Raw (64bit), Can not install. Click cancel". I have camera raw 4.5 and I don't have a 64bit system. I can't find any 5.4 for 32bit system?
I didn't see any edits I had previously done in Lightroom in PSE's organizer, nor did the raw file have any modified timestamp.
I really like PSE organizer for tagging pictures so I find them easily, and I have gotten used to Lightroom for editing my files after I got more interested in taking pictures, LR is a lot easier to quickly modifying a lot of pictures compared to PSE where you have to open editor for each and every picture (making sure I can't be bothered fixing up the pics). So my workflow is to import to LR and modifying the pictures to my liking, and then importing them in PSE organizer for looking at them later. I don't use LR for looking at pictures later on. Is that an OK way of doing it, or is there an easier way?
Perhaps I should import as .DNG file to reduce the dependency on the .xmp file?
Thanks again for a quick reply, I have been slower to reply as I had to check and recheck what was happening.

  • Why can't I download Canon S100 CR2 RAW files into PSE 10?

I am using PSE 10 with a Canon S100 camera. I am successful in downloading all of my jpeg files and RAW CR2 files from my older Canon Rebel, but not with the Canon S100 CR2 Raw files.
When first downloading from the Canon S100 camera into PSE 10 and later doing them manually, I receive the following messages:  Nothing imported...files are not supported file types or alread in catalog.  File damaged or in a format that cannot be included in the Elements Organizer.
These problems files, by the way, were automatically added to my Window's My Pictures catalog and are perfectly fine.

Thank you for the info. It worked great, once I was
able to get around a second problem that prevented updating
from within the PSE 10 application (error U41M1C212). That
problem was solved by disabling the MS Virtual WiFi Miniport
Adapter (located in the Network and Sharing Center control
panel). It just goes to show me once again, how complex
computer apps are and how much we all have to rely on each
other to get anything to work properly (frustratingly
enough, since the companies we paid good money to for
their problematic software are not very helpful). Thanks
    again.

Try opening a CR2 directly from a folder by right-clicking
and choosing open with Photoshop Elements editor, if that
dosent work, update the appliactaion (required for the
    S100V)
In the Editor menu click Help >> Updates
    Then install amera raw 6.7

  • PSE 6 Thumbnails and downloading raw files

    I am having two problems.
The first is the thumbnails in the organiser appear as hour glasses until there are just four thumbnails shown in the window. If the number of thumbnails is increased the pictures are lost and each shows an hour glass. At the bottom of the screen  a box reads sorting thumbnails but nothing happens . I am working on a pc with windows xp home.  Any ideas what I am doing wrong please.
My second problem is that having just bought a canon 500D camera PSE will not recognise raw files. I can download them with the canon software but can not import them either into the organiser or the editor. Again any ideas please.

Re the PSE 6 thumbnails, see this FAQ:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Recreate_Organizer_thumbna ils

  • EPL5 RAW FILE IMPORT TO PSE 10

Hi.  I have just moved over to an Imac and have PSE 10 installed, but cannot get EPL5 files to be imported.  I cannot seem to get a plug-in to work.  Is it possible to upload EPL5 raw into PSE10?

Is that the Olympus PEN E-PL5?
It looks like you would need at least camera raw 7.3, which unfortunately pse 10 doesn't support.
Pse 10 only supports up to camera raw 6.7
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1030798?tstart=0
Other than upgrading to pse 12, you could use the 8.2 dng converter to convert your camera raw files to dng copies, which pse 10 should then open.
