PSE 8 Organizer take 60+ seconds per task

Most everything I do in the PSE 8 Organizer seems to take 60+ seconds to complete.
When I move a tag from one sub-category to another, 60+ seconds.
When I delete a picture from the catalog, 60+ seconds.
When I add a new face tag in a photo, 60+ seconds.
It doesn't seem to matter if I have 940 photos or 140 photos in the catalog.
What is PSE looking for with each task it does?
The only error indication I get is a 'dunk' sound when the Organizer starts up,
(like the sound you get when you click on something you shouldn't click on),
but no error dialog or warning shows up.
Any ideas?

John, I have a total of seven people tags and thanks for the advice.  It's not a keyword tag issue.
But, hallelujah, I have found the problem!  It's the 'Folder Location View'.  Stay out of it!  It turns a face tagging from a half second task to a 65 second task.  It appears that, when in the Folder Location View, after you complete a task like face tagging PSE will then go off and re-read (for 65 seconds) all your Windows folders and regenerate the folder view.  When you switch to the Thumbnail View and do the face tag then PSE comes right back immediately.  I was able to recreate this scenario several times.  Each task I did in Folder Location View took 65 seconds or more.  The same task in Thumbnail View takes half a second tops.

  • BAPI_Salesorder_createfromdat2 - takes 5 to 8 seconds per record.

    Dear all
I using a BAPI call to create sales order in bulk.  (Read from Excel file).
While executing it was taking longer time than expected.  For 1000 records it takes 6 to 8 min..
Upon debugging it is found that for each BAPI call - it takes 5 to 6 seconds per BAPI call to create sales order.
Any suggestions to improve this performance.
Yur inputs will be verymuch helpful..  Not able to seach any solutions so far ..
    Regards,
    Venkat

    Hello Venkat,
not an easy task. First of all please check if the response time of BAPI degrades with time. Measure the execution time in the beginning of the package and at the end. If the runtime significantly increases, then you have to check how to clear the internal buffers from time to time.
If the BAPI always takes 6-8 seconds, you have to make a trace to determine what part of the functionality is taking the majority of time.
Please keep in mind that the runtime of the order creation depends on the number of positions. A creation of a sales order with 2 positions in 2 seconds I would consider still ok (1 seconds per header and 0,5 sec for each line item). If it is taking longer, then a trace (for example ST12 trace) should be made for further investigation. Sort the trace by gross time and look which function modules are taking a considerable amount of time.
Anyway, if you are filling the BAPI input parameters correctly, the problem will not be easy to resolve.
    Regards,
      Yuri

  • How much hard drive space do photos in the organizer take up on hard drive?

Do the pictures in the organizer in PSE 12 take up room on the hard drive or are they just copies of what's in iPhoto?

Thanks for the quick reply! And the help. My computer shows many Preview app documents. Lots of pictures. Just wanted to know if I was duplicating  storage. Thanks again.

  • LR keyword search (coming from PSE Organizer 9)

I am using LR 4.1 RC2.  This morning using LR I upgraded my PSE Organizer 9 catalog.  It has about 50k photos with keywords and star ratings.  It seems like the upgrade worked because I can now see all my photos in LR and they have the keywords and star ratings.  Hurray!  I am having some trouble  figuring out how to do keyword searches in LR though so I hope someone can help.
In Organizer there are several ways to do keyword searchs:
    1.  Use the Keyword Tags panel and click on one or multiple keywords.  Organizer will then display only the photos that have all of the keywords, i.e., it uses AND.  This is very easy and is great for finding things very quickly when using one or more keywords.
    2.  Use Find > By Details (Metadata) which allows searching by multiple keywords and the choice of AND or OR.  You can also combine the keyword search with other metadata so that, for example, you can find all Bird photos taken in Florida using a Canon 7D + 100-400mm at ISO 400 in April 2011 that have 3 or more stars.  I use this option to search fairly often.
    3.  Use the Search bar and type in search expressions using NOT, AND, and OR.  I occasionally use this for complicated searches that #2 can't handle.  This is a pain in the butt to use since you must type everything out, but when #1 or #2 can't do it (which is rare) it is great to have this option too.
Several months ago I read on the PSE forum a thread about using Organizer and an Adobe developer recommended upgrading to LR since it was more flexible and meant for professionals and serious amateurs.  Therefore even though I have read the LR help info and can't find how to do sophisticated searches I am sure it is possible and I just haven't found it yet.  Here is what I have found so far:
    1.  Use the Keyword List panel where I can select only one keyword.
    2.  Use the Library Filter bar where I can do a ctrl-click on multiple keywords, but this results in an OR instead of AND.  In other words, if I click on Birds and then ctrl-click on Florida I get all bird photos and all Florida photos (the union, not the intersection).  This is probably almost never what a person wants.
I hope someone can tell me or point me to documentation so that I can at least do as much as the amateur Organizer can do.  Thank you!

John, thanks for the reply.  Yes, I am discovering that the amateur Organizer has much better searching capability than the professional Lightroom. I have already mentioned in my post the flexibility and power and Organizer is not even as good as some other programs.  I had spent time investigating LR, but mostly raw conversion and non-destructive editing.  I had, I think naturally, assumed that LR's database functions would be at least as good as the cheap Organizer.  I never dreamt that they would not be as good or as easy to use.  I sometimes wonder what happens in corporations when they seem to forget their own past and come out with new stuff that is a step or two backwards compared to their older, lower end stuff.  Oh well.
Thank you very much for the tip about having more than one instance of keywords in the filter bar.  That helps.
After I posted I discovered using Smart Collections and that helps a bit too.  It is sort of a cutdown, less user friendly version of the Find By Details (Metadata) function in Organizer.  It also means that for just a one time search I would have to create a smart collection and then delete it.  What's with that, I wonder?  Of course, if you often want to do that same search then it is good (Organizer allows you to save the search too), but most of the time I just do it one time.  Oh well.
I looked at the Any Tag plugin and also the Any Filter plugin (same website) and I might download them to try out.
What I would like for Adobe to do is have their LR developers (probably a more prestigious development team in the company) talk to their Organizer developers (maybe a less prestigious development team) so that the LR developers can learn a bit about this.  Yes, I have been a software developer for many years so I do understand a bit about development organizations.  LR and PS are standard bearing products so their teams probably are held in higher esteem.  Time to be humble and talk to other people though, IMO.
If any LR developers happen to read this then please know that I mean no offense.  But, please, at least, take a look at Organizer and see if you can come up with something simpler that requires less typing of multiple long keywords and more powerful searching using various types of metadata.  I am not saying Organizer is the best out there, but it is much better than LR in this case.

  • PSE Organizer tags to file metadata?

PSE Organizer tags are not automatically included in the picture files' metadata.
I have observed that tags are transferred to file metadata if you do the following:
    1. Tag the native picture file using the organizer
    2. Create and save an edited copy of our native file, using the editor
Result: Organizer tags are included in the file metadata, for both the edited copy AND the native file.
Is there any way to tell PSE to automatically include tags in the file metadata, or second best; is there a way to do this manually "en gross" (i.e. for a large selection of files in one operation)?

  • [BUG ?] PSE Organizer - Sort by file size

    Hello,
When trying to sort by file size with PSE Organizer, it only takes into account the recently imported pictures.
I have recently migrated my catalog from PhotoShop Album V1.0 to PSE Organizer without problem (or at least I solve all of them, thanks to John !).
Now, when I ask all pictures with a file size higher than 2000 kb, I only have the files that I recently imported... Is there any solution to also include all pictures (I paid attention not to select the recent album, I show all pictures - but maybe I do something else wrong ??)
    Thanks,

Interesting.  When you do Edit > Update Thumbnail, PSE rereads all the metadata from the file except for keyword tags. So your hypothesis that the file size information was not converted from the PSA catalog sounds reasonable.  Just one of many bugs in the conversion process.
Yes, EDIT > UPDATE THUMBNAIL, that's what I done (sorry, I am french and I downloaded the french version, so my translation are sometimes erroneous).

  • Why does it take 30 seconds to sleep after the 10.7.3 update?

After applying the 10.7.3 combo update it now take 30 seconds between the time I select sleep from the menu (or press the power button) on my 2.66GHz Mac Pro. It used to be instant.

    Matthew,
Again, this started when I installed the combo 10.7.3 update. Unlike you, my screen does dot go to black-except-cursor, but remains at the desktop (or whatever app I'm in), but simply takes 30 seconds exactly to sleep. I do have a Belkin UPS attached, and I'll try to unplug the USB cable and see what happens. Also remember that I've tested this in a new unsullied user, so it's probably not anything I'm running. Another possibility is that I have 2 RAID arrays connected via eSATA, but I had those before the update and they did not seem to affect sleep then. Could be that Apple changed the way they handle eSATA.
I'm on a 2006 Mac Pro (details below).

  • PSE Organizer 12 crashes soon after opening

When I open Organizer directly from the desktopn, it asks if I want to back up my catalog.  I decline.  A few seconds later 'Elements 12 organizer has stopped working'.
I recently upgraded my installation from PSE 11 to PSE 12.  I run Windows 8 on an i3 Gen2.  My catalog has ~ 30K photos stretching back 12 years.  The catalog also contains video.  I was having a similar issue with 11.  I created a new catalog, thinking that the catalog file may have become corrupted.  That solved the problem for a couple of weeks, but the issue has now returned.  I want to like this product as it's easy to use, but the constant crashes have to go!
What can I do to help solve this issue?

  • Opening a new mail window takes 5 seconds to appear

When I click New Mail it takes 4 seconds to appear for this Window. This is already for many months. I have a .Mac account and three other POP accounts and a fresh other user doesn't have this problem. I might trash some prefs, but I don't want to organize my whole E-mail again. Somebody some clue what to do?

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations. Make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet is at the top of the list. Also, disable any communications/networking configuration enabled, but not in use. Since you don't experience the problem when logged in as another user, this probably won't solve it, but it's worth looking at anyway.
Now, in Mail go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors for your .Mac account. Do you have Store draft messages on the server enabled? If so, disable it and see whether it makes a difference.

  • PSE Organizer hangs up on start up on my Macbook

A few weeks ago PSE 9 Organizer began to not show the thumbnails if I tried to display more that approximately 12 photo's at one time.  As long as I kept the photos displayed to less than 12-15 i was able to see the them.  If I picked a photo to edit the editor works perfectly.  The problem is with the Organizer.  Now the Organizer will no longer work at all.  When I try to start it up it opens and then just hangs up and I get a message that it is not responding.  I tried to just let it run for hours but it remains hung up.  I get a spinning colored circle.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the software but I had the same issue when I tried to restart.  It will open and show me my files and immediately hang up and display the spinning colored circle.
Any ideas how to fix this issue.
    Mike

    Barbara,
Thank you for your reply.  I was able to get to the catalog manager and run the repair option.  the program indicated it did not find any errors but I ran the repair anyhow.  I then ran the optimizer.  I then opened the PSE Organizer and it took about 20 minutes but it did open.  I now have a better definition of the problem.  The issue seems to be related to the most recently loaded folders.  When I click on one of my old folders the thumbnails pop right up displaying as many as I want to look at.  When I click on one of my recent folders, three of them in all, the thumbnails will only display if I increase the photo size to where just 4 of them appear in on the display.   If I try to do  anything in these folders it take several minutes to execute and i get the spinning colored circle.
Could I have corrupt files or did I possibly inadvertently change a setting when I pulled the pictures in off of the card reader that could cause this?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Deleting files in PSE-organizer

    Hi,
I have 2 questions concerning the handling of picture files in the PSE-organizer.
When I want to reduce a large amount of pictures (800 and more) i.e. after holidays I use the organizer to get a quick overview of the shots which are immediately to be deleted.
Unfortunately, every single deleting process has to be confirmed when the intention is to remove the pictures both from the catalogue and the harddrive. You have to activate a checkbox every time! I would like to know whether it is possible to suppress that message and checkbox action.
The second problem I have is that sometimes (not every time!) when I delete a couple of pictures within the organizer this action will move the view to the very first picture again so you have to scroll down to the last chosen pictures again. For example I have 700 pictures, reach pictures 511, 512 and 516 which I delete then the organizer would do that but jump back to picture 1. So I have to scroll down to picture 517 again to resume my selections of good and bad material. That can be very soul-killing with 700 pictures and maybe 200 to delete ;-)
Does anybody know how to help me with these 2 problems.
Thank you in advance for your support.
    Kind regards from Germany,
    Marco

It's not possible to set a default for the checkbox (poor design by Adobe).  However, here's a workaround:
Mark the files you want to delete as hidden using Edit > Visibility > Mark As Hidden (ALT+F2).  When you're one, review all the hidden files by doing View > Show Only Hidden Files. Then do Edit > Select All and delete all of them at once.
If you're already using hidden files for other purposes, you could use a tag instead, though it wouldn't be quite as fast to drag a tag to  photo as typing ALT+F2 (but still faster than waiting for the interminably slow Delete dialog box).

  • ITunes loading delays on screaming machine - takes 90 seconds to load

Need some help. Just built a new machine from the ground up. It has Intel Duo Core E6600 2.40 ghz CPU, 1066Mhz FSB, 4 mb L2 Cache; 2 gb DDR Ram; 500gb Raid 0 HDD; GeForce 7600GT 256mb Video card. Running Windows XP Home until Vista comes out. Screams. All other apps load in <1sec. iTunes 7.0.2 takes 90 seconds to load. With NAV & Firewall off still takes 75 seconds to load. iTunes load on other older PC's in the house takes 5-20 seconds. When watching Task Manager on itunes.exe; in first second ~25,000k loads into memory, then hangs for 90 seconds and then remaining load happens taking memory usage up to ~45,400k. Any ideas as to what's going on? Baffling?

sorry for the delay in getting back to you Windbeam. 60-odd reply-notification backlog in my inbox, and i'm trying to alert people that i'm not going to be around much for the next 2 weeks.
Seems to be related to hardware or the OS. Solution is to have a cd in the drive and then the load screams. Makes no sense at all! Very strange.
good lord ... that is peculiar. if it wasn't for the fact that having the CD in there was helping boot times too, i'd be wondering about a problem with your iTunes CD drivers ... but they don't load on startup.
perhaps check on the general wellness of the drive? i'm getting similar symptoms at the moment from belladonna (just during boot-up, though). her optical drive is broken at the moment, and when she's booting there is a significant delay, and i can hear the desultory clunky/whirr noises as the drive tries to run during those delays.
so it might be worth just doublechecking if your firmware is up-to-date on the drive. there's some info in these documents that might help with that:
Using CD Diagnostics in iTunes for Windows to troubleshoot CD/DVD drive issues
iTunes for Windows: Updating the firmware on your CD or DVD drive
