PSE 9 - cannot change speed of animated GIF

I read in other discussions that there was a 'bug' on Mac version of previous releases of PSE and the the speed of the animated gif couldn't be set.
I also read that this was fixed in PSE 9, but it doesn't work for me.
What is the real status of this bug ? Could it be that 'old' files were retained when I installed PSE 9 and that they override the 'good' ones ?
(I erased all visible traces of PSE 8 from my Application support folders, prefs folders, etc.. , but didn't run the proper desinstall tool and now it dooesn't work - hangs after a while)
Thanks for help on this

It was fixed and got broken again, so it is currently broken, unfortunately. PSE 9 is pretty poor for animated gifs in many ways, including inability to see all the layers in an existing gif, so it's best just to avoid using it for this, I'm afraid.

  • Changing speed of moving gif

I currently have some java code that displays a moving gif file i.e. a gif file that has several images in it that are shown in a timed sequence and can give the illusion that the picture is moving if animated correctly.
    Anyway I use
    logo1 = new ImageIcon("magic.gif" );
to get the image and latter use a method that displays it.
My question is basically I was wondering if there is any other method I can use to slow the gif file down.
Otherwise I am going to have to edit the gif image itself by using some image manipulation software which I currently dont have.
Any idea if this is possible.
    Thanks

  • Cannot change delay time for animated GIFs

I just got PSE 6.0 for Mac, and I've slowly been learning how to do what I'd like to with it. I've noticed that there have been some problems with the program, though, such as sudden lockups that make me force-quit. One of my more serious issues involves making adjustments to the delay time in some simple, animated GIF files that I have been working on, using the Save For Web command. For some reason, I can't change the delay time from its default of 0.2 seconds to anything else; the slider doesn't respond when I click on it, nor can I make any direct adjustments in the field itself. In the end, I'm stuck with just that 0.2-second delay. Is this a bug in the program, or am I just missing something?
If this helps, I have created a set of animated GIFs with two layers/frames apiece, looping continuously. The second and topmost layer is asigned a Dissolve filter, and usually left at 100% opacity when I make the final adjustments. The workspace background for each is transparent when I begin.
Oh, also, I am using PSE on an Intel iMac with OS 10.5.6, with 2GB RAM and enough hard drive space to fit everything.

Unfortunately, this is a known bug in PSE 6 for mac:

  • Opening animated gif in PSE 8 for Mac

I am switching from PSE for PC to PSE 8 for Mac.
I have always been able to open animated gif as layers and work with them, then resave as an updated animated gif.
WIth PSE 8 for Mac, I get a pop up that the file is animated and can only see the top frame. Any ideas on how to open up all of the frames in layers?

Do I need to enable this process for my Mac? Maybe I'm missing a plug-in or update?
I have been opening these files from others, tweeking and resaving for almost 2 years in PSE. It definitely will not shuffle the individual panels on an animated gif into the layers box.
My tweeking usually involves adjusting frame speed. Is that what you mean by 'frame rate'?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Save for web - animated gif problem PSE (Mac)

Trying to save an animated gif using Save for Web dialogue box...
works fine, except checkbox "Loop" and delay rate drop down box are highlighted (active) but can't be changed
    anyone know reason /  fix?

No fix, alas. This has been a problem in the mac version since PSE 6. If your gif is small, you can duplicate layers so that they appear to stay onscreen longer, but the best advice is to not use PSE/mac for this, unfortunately.

  • PSE8 for Mac Trying to create animated GIF.  Why can't I change the animation delay?

I am trying to create an animated GIF for the first time.  Finally figured out most of it, but it won't let me change the speed from 0.2 which is waaaay too fast.

  • Changing animated gif's colors

    Hi,
I'm using Fireworks CS5. I opened an animated gif and I wanted to replace some of the colors with other colors and have it do this for the entire animation. I know that I can simply change the colors by going to the Optimize panel and select one of the colors in the palette to change it. But I want to use an exact color by pasting in the color's HTML hex code and I can't find a way to do that. I tried using the "Replace Palette entry" option and pasting in the code there. But while the color in the palette window changed correctly, the color on the actual gif was wrong (for instance, I changed an orange to a gray, but the preview image simply replaced the original orange with a different orange instead of the gray I wanted).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

The replace palette entry feature only works on vectors. Your GIF animation is a bitmap. I'm afrad the only choice you've got is to hand color each state, or recreate the animation with the colors you like.

  • Cannot email animated gif's

I've recently downloaded several small sized animated .gif files on safari to the iphone camera roll, and I cannot email this file for whatever reason. I get "Saving file" when I "Email Photo" and it will continue saving the file in a loop, which is quite odd since the file is already saved on the iphone. This happens on any of the animated gif files I have on the phone. I figured since I can download that file rather quickly, is it the upload that is slowing things down? I have left some running for over 15 minutes with no avail. I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks.

  • Animated gif changes to black and white when exporting

A student created an animated gif of a solar system for class. When he tries to export it as an animated web gif, it changes everything to grayscale.

If you go to File>Image Preview, there's a drop down menu called "palette". This is probably set to black and white or greyscale. Change it to exact or adaptive.

  • Can I Create Animated GIFs in PSE 8 or 9?

The subject says it all.  If it's possible, might someone provide a pointer to the information?  Thanks!

You can create them, but you can't edit them. When you open the animated gif in PSE again, it will get reduced to a single layer. Also, if you have the mac version there's been a bug since PSE 6 that you can't control the frame rate. So yeah, make a layered file (each frame is one layer) and use Save for Web and turn on the animation section after selecting gif as the file type, but I wouldn't go for elements specifically for this function. It lacks.

  • How Do I Change an Animated Gif's Iteration and Loop Settings? (Pshop/Image Ready 7.0)

Background to Issue (NOT a PPT or Windows issue even though It will seem like that at first but read on...): I have to make Animated GIFS to be inserted into Powerpoint. I work on a Mac but the PPT presentation will be shown on PCs (non-negotiable, since I can't ask hundreds of sales reps who will be using this to install an outdated version of PPT). I already learned that I need to insert the Gifs while working on a PC or else it won't work). Fair enough- I can put it together on a PC, again not the issue. BUT, when I do THAT, the gifs still wn't animate unless I am in PPT 2002. Fair enough (Microsif going backwards not a surprise) So it won't work in PPT 2003 which is what the users will all have. But I need to get the presentation to them asap! I got a bit further in researching and found out that the solution is that I need to set my "Loop Flag" and "Iteration Settings" appropriately. See this link (http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/animated_gifs/gifs.htm)
BUT I am trying to find out if one can do this already somehow in Mac Photoshop 7.0 or Mac Image Ready 7.0, where I made the gif and would prefer to keep making my gifs. Maybe I need to upgrade Image Ready or Pshop to CS? SO THE FINAL QUESTION IS: Is there another way to manual do this without this PC Plug-in?
NOTE: Yes, I know how how to set the loop to "once" or "forever" in Image Ready when I make my Gifs but apparently I need to do this somewhere else...where the iteration setting lives too?

There is an ImageAnimator so you may not need to use byte array instead.

  • ImageReady...creating animated GIF, how do you change save settings?

I cant find an ImageReady forum, hope this will do for now...
Its been forever since I have used ImageReady and Im rusty again!  I just created an animated GIF but want to lower the file size of it a little after it saves everything to GIF.  Currently, the GIF is a little larger than I care for in filesize.  Where are the settings to lower the quality and everything else for this?

Image Ready was discontinued with CS2?  There are other ways to animate now, but just not in image ready, and it is not as easy.

  • Cannot Import Animated Gif

Hi all. I have been following the Lynda tutorials for Captivate 5 for Mac, and I'm at the point where they are inserting animated .gif files. When I attempt to insert the image via Insert > Animation, and select the file I receive the message that "The file is not an animated GIF file", and then nothing imports to the stage.
I downloaded an animated .gif from the web and tried to import that, but same result. They both open up on Photoshop fine.
Can anybody help me with this issue?

    Hi,
    In my envirement...
If the animations frames set to "No Delay (0 Sec)" in PhotoShop, once import the GIF file to Captivate will get "The file is not an animated GIF file", if import the GIF file to Media Encoder will have problem too.
Please try set frames to 0.1 seconds at least

  • Edit animated gif

    Hi,
How can I edit an animated gif in Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac?
When I open the file there is just the first frame in one layer - no other layers available.
    Thanks!

    Thanks Barbara!

I can't drag the single frames from Preview to PSE, because PSE 6 doesn't run in window mode.
(Is this improved in the current version?)
I can only drag the single frames to the desktop (as TIFF files, I guess transparency info is lost then?).

What's the default frame delay rate? Maybe it's just what I need.

Yes that's maybe a better idea. It doesn't have to be free software. Can you recommend something good?
