PSE 9 Crashing on my Laptop?

To one and all,
Perhaps someone can explain to me why PSE 9 keeps crashing on my Vaio Laptop. My OS is Windows XP....... I start PSE 9 and for no seeming reason at all it crashes every few minutes in the midst of me doing any one of numerous tasks in the Organizer doing various tasks. I have to shut it down and restart it constantly. This is getting annoying!!! Anyone else have this problem with PSE 9 when running on XP?
Thanks, from a fellow PSE lover..... does anyone know a tech I can talk to?
By the way, I have PSE 9 installed on my Windows 7 computer and it NEVER crashes!!!
Jay

Dear Bill,
That's about as logical a solution I can think of. However, the Vaio is only
about 2.5 years old, has adequate memory, 2.5 GB of internal RAM, a 3.2 GHz
processor and is not old by most standards and has adequate space on the
internal HD to more than adequately handle the photo files that support PSE.
This whole thing was a sudden event that came from nowhere while I was on
vacation. Another note, I placed my PSE photo library and supporting files
on an external HD long ago, to free up space on the built-in HD).  The
problem has never been with the Elements Editor, it's the organizer that's
driving me nuts. Despite this, I am going to take your advice and check into
adjusting the performance settings as you suggested. There must be a cache
that I am blowing out that's causing the program to crash as much as it
does. And, it happens during any number of tasks, especially when I try to
reconnect, move, adjust dates, captioning, deleting, you name it..... Every
time it happens I have to shut down PSE and open it back up again over and
over again to do my work. I have to wait until Adobe opens again tomorrow
morning to get a tech to help me.
Fortunately, I have a desktop machine that has zero problems with PSE 9.
Your response was awesome, thanks so much.
Regards,
Jay

  • How do I move PSE 9 from desktop to laptop after I install new PSE11?

Just received PSE 11,  want it on my desktop and then move PSE 9 from desktop to laptop?  It there a sequence that will prevent problems?

First make a full backup in PSE 9 using the organizer's backup command, then install PSE 9 on the laptop and restore the backup there. If all is well, you can then deactivate PSE 9 on the desktop if you don't want it there anymore (not required, unless you've already installed it on a third computer). When you install PSE 11 it should find and update your catalog on that for you.
If you don't use organizer, it doesn't really matter how you do it.

  • PSE 8 crash in Windows 8 Pro

Hi people, I use PSE to create textures and other things to work with 3D and after install Win8Pro PSE always crash to desktop. Theres no way to work with it for a long time (more then 10 ou 15 minutes).
So I decided to download the trial for the 11 version, but it crash the same way...
Its a 64bit system using a 32 bit PSE. Its a fresh install since the upgrade from win7 didnt work very well for a lot of my other apps.
    Any idea??

May be the preference file got corrupted.
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  11\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • Full screen view in PSE 10 crashes under both W7 32 and W7 64

    Hello
I am testing PSE 10 (I have PSE 6) and have installed PSE 10 under both WIndows 7 64 bit and WIndows 7 32 bit.  Both installations are fully updated.  The hardware is the same for all three of my regular XP (PSE 6) and these PSE 10 installs.  The catalogs and images are on a separate large drive (one directory set for PSE 10, one directory set for PSE 6).
I have found that PSE 10 crashes after a period of time when showing images in full screen mode (the slide show mode).  It is hard to say how long it will take, but somwhere around after diplaying 100-200 images PSE 10 crashes.  Worst case was after about the fourth (it might even have been the second).  Sound is 'none', captions are disabled, update rate is 2 seconds.
I have put PSE 6 on the W7 32 bit install and it runs perfectly.  (I am only using the PSE 10 organizer, I haven't tried the editor in any dpeth as yet).  PSE 6 ran for hours in slide show mode with not a hitch.
I have rebuilt and optimized the catalog (but the PSE 10 Organizer will run without trouble for hours if I am not in full screen slide show mode), so I don't think the catalog is damaged.
I have switched off all those background features (from the preferences).  I have run in XP compatibility mode.
This is a fresh W7 install and has no problems reported in it (AV etc).  There are no disk errors for example.  The PC has 8GB RAM (~3.6 available under W7 32 bit).  There is a lot of free space on both the C: drive and the data drive (100s of GB).
The Microsoft support for the crash is 'no support available' from the event viewer (or the W7 system health report accessed from the control panel).
Google search on the crash shows no useful light either, basically the Organizer just crashes.
Neither Adobe's search or a Google search on the forum seem to find a suitable similar experience.
All images are jpegs and are roughly the same size, very approximatly 4MB each.
Any other suggestions I can try?

    I’ve found a work-round.
This is embarrassing (for Adobe), as the work-round is to set the CPU affinity to single cpu mode. With that PSE 10 has been running in slide show mode for 3 hours now.  Looking good!
On a temporary basis, from the task manager, show the ‘processes’ tab, right click on the PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe *32 process, choose ‘Set Affinity …’ unselect ‘All’ and select (check) any one CPU.  (Under W7 32 bit I guess you won’t get the *32)
For a more permanent fix, using the start command with the affinity option is needed.  This is not compatible with the PSE 10 launcher though, if you use the launcher you will need to set the affinity as shown above.
To use the start command, from a command prompt type start /? for the syntax..
Try a google search of  “how to set the processor affinity” for further advice.
Now, should Adobe be reading this thread I have some advice for them:
“It is NOT POSSIBLE to conduct a reliability test of a program using a virtualized environment”.
I made the error of assuming that after the PSE 6 fiasco in a multi-cpu environment Adobe would not make the same mistake again.  Well, they have.  Perhaps this time they will conduct a root cause analysis of what they are doing wrong with their test plans and FIX IT, because I object to doing their testing for them, again.

  • PSE 11 crashes when I attempt to add a new catalog

PSE 11 crashes when I attempt to add a new catalog to those that already exist. No programs are running that might conflict with Organizer, and I can run other functions such as downloading photos from my camera. As soon as I attempt to add a new sub-catalog to an existing major catalog, the program crashes. I'm using Windows 7, and have tried various compatibilities, but none solves the problem. Any ideas?

How do you attempt to 'add a new catalog' or a new 'sub-catalog' ?
There are no such things as 'sub-catalogs' or catalogs included in catalog.
Catalogs are totally independent storing systems, they ignore what is managed in other catalogs. That's why it is recommended to have only one catalog, unless you have a good reason to create several ones because they are totally independent by nature (home vs professional for instance).
You can create several levels of albums, of tags categories, but not with catalogs.

  • PSE 11 crashes

I am having problems with PSE 11 it keeps crashes.  My system is Windows 7 64bit.  I will go through exactly what I do.
Open PSE 11 - click on Photo Editor
    Open Photographs
    Click on Create
    Click on Collage
    Click Print Locally 297.00 x 210.00
    Click ok
This is the point PSE 11 crashes
Box opens stating:  Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close and notifiy you if solution is available
    Program closes but nothing happens
I have tried this many times but still it crashes at the "ok" stage.
I hope someone can put me in the right direction.
    Many thanks

Now that we have your post into the correct forum, I have a quick question, please:
In Windows Event Viewer, in either the System or the Applications Tabs, do you see any "warning," or "error" messages about the time that PsE crashed?
If so, click on each one. If any have links in them (something besides a bunch of code, that no one could tell anything from), click on those links and read what they say. You might get some good clues as to what is causing the crashes, like a conflict with the OS and a low-level driver. This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2031203#2031203

Changing the ram to  a 1000  did not do the job.
    thanks  hatstead
But I think Im on to something.
I disabled AVG anti virus  and the bug mostly disapeared.
I've had about 1 crash out of 20 instead of 18/20.
I'll watch it for a while and confirm later if it was AVG.

  • PSE 11 crashes using 'Mark Face'

I am using PSE 11 on Win 7 x64.  The catalog is newly repaired and optimized.  Using the 'Mark Face' feature in the organizer causes PSE to crash immediately after clicking the green check mark to accept the entered tag.  I have used the 'Mark Face' tagging feature before without problems.  What possible root cause is there and how can I repair it?  Thank you for positive feedback.

I found the problem NOT to be related to the catalog at all.  I store all my images on network-attached storage device.  In order to access them the same way from two systems, I have stored the catalog also on the network.  I have PSE11 loaded on both systems.  One is used as an media entertainment system with our home theater and we use it to view photos and videos only.  The other is used to manage the photo and video library, edit images and files and so on.
This setup has worked fine since the I installed PSE11.  Then I performed a full backup with PSE11 for the first time and encountered the crash problem.  It occurs when I manually tag people in images using the 'Mark Face' feature.  It does not, however, crash when the Organizer adds the virtual people tagging frame showing "Who is this?".  I can enter the tag name just fine without any problems.
In talking to support, I found that "BreezeDB.dll" is used for the manual tagging process while another module is used when the Organizer creates the virtual frame.  I was informed that "BreezeDB.dll" requires certain network access rights in order to function correctly.  It was hinted that PSE does not work well on the network and some unpredictable behavior could occur.  Why the other module does not exhibit the same issue was not explained.  Also, the module "BreezeDB.dll" enjoys maximum access rights on the network.  There was also no explanation given why the installation configuration worked without a hitch prior the the backup.
I moved the catalog to a location on the local system and the feature works without problems.  Although that is operationally satisfactory, it does not allow me to view photos in my home theater using PSE11.  I acknowledge the problem to be with the module "BreezeDB.dll".  But I am not convinced it is caused by rights issues.  Unfortunately, Adobe has a very poor track record with making its application functional and stable for network operation.
I took issue with the quality of initial support provided.  Adobe's first response to almost all problems seems to always conclude a "Corrupt catalog/database".  The resulting recommend course of action is the creation of a new catalog and re-importing of all images.  It simply astounds me that this is considered acceptable provided that some users have thousands of images in their catalog with tag, album, keyword, version stacks and other information not written to file.  None of the users have created such catalogs overnight, most of them have developed over years.
I wish Adobe would perhaps forego some "sexy & new" features and instead aspire to a trully stable platform that is universally functional across modern installation configurations.  They must have noticed the explosion of home network installations (wired & WiFi) in the last 10 years.  Overall I like the product (with all its little quirks) and the company.  But I am growing increasinly concerned with every release that the effort I am putting in managing my media (and its growth) is not protected.  I don't think Adobe is rewarding my decade-long loyalty to the product (they know who I am and that I have registered a new product every year).  I don't believe Adobe has my back.

  • Installing PSE 6 on my new laptop, telling me serial number is wrong.

I am installing my old copy of PSE 6 on my new laptop.  I looked up my serial number on my Adobe account. When I enter it, it tells me that the serial number is incorrect.  I am using copy/paste, so cant be that I am entering wrong.  How can I fix this?

What are the FIRST 4 characters of your serial number?   I just want to know if it is a real serial number or simply a product number.
PLEASE DON'T POST THE ENTIRE SERIAL NUMBER HERE.  I am only asking for FIRST 4 characters only.
Also, have you tried pasting that code in Notepad before pasting it in Adobe product in question?  Sometimes formatting characters may interfere with the pasting process.  So basically paste it in Notepad and then copy from Notepad to paste it in PSE6.

  • PSE 6 crashes after restore

I recently had to do a restore from Backup of my PSE 6.0. The restore went fine, but when i restarted PSE, it said it was regenerating thumbnails. It would regenerate for a ocuple hours, then crash. When I restart the PSE organizer, it crashes almost instantaneously now so I can do nothing. My catalog is almost all jpg files (about 25K) and less than 10 psd files. No camera raw files. Assuming the problem was related to generating thumbnails, I have tried to:
    1. repair and optimize the catalog
    2. install the ACR update
    3. set the processor affinity to 1 (by launching in a command prompt) and also removing multi processor supprt
    4. deleting the thumbnail cache
    5. deleting the organizers preferences
    6. installed the licensing service update
I don't know what else to do. I took a look at the log file, an everything looks pretty normal, the last line says
"App is now visible and ready for input...
    12517 (+ 261) Finished UI init."
I would appreciate any other suggestions.
    thanks,

So I tried to locate the poison files, and there were just too many. I identified over 10 directories with what appeared to be at least one poison file (each directory had many subdirectories). So I have given up on this tact. However, I did restore my backup to a different computer (with PSE 6 loaded) just to see if it worked, and it worked perfectly on the first try. I am thinking I have a problem with a setting somewhere on my main computer (perhaps a setting for cache size-PSE always crashes when thumb.5.cache is at 237 MB). I have uninstalled PSE and reinstalled it, but that did not help. I also deleted everything from the Pictures directory and the exisiting catalog, and then did the restore thinking that when the files were just overwritten something was not overwritten correctly. Is there someway to delete everything associated with PSE and start from a clean slate?
If it is not a setting, then there must be a conflict with another program.

  • PSE 10 crashes on startup

I have a 4 monitor setup. nVidia 460 and CTX9800 cards. If my main display is one of the Dell 2560x1600 monitors, then it works fine. If I set my main display to the 1920x1200 monitor, then PSE 10 crashes on startup.
If I start with the Dell as my main display, then right click->screen resolution, set the smaller display as the main, then the program still runs, but very slow and the central frame acts very weird. Desktop shows through the PSE for instance.
Have read all the entries about crashing and have tried all. No avail. Did a reinstall. No joy. nVidia drivers all up to date. Win7. 8GB. Corei7. 6 TB of disks.

There have been other reports in this forum about problems using multiple monitors.  I don't remember if they were resolved, but you can try searching for the discussions.  I suspect you'll need to contact Adobe tech support on this one....

  • PSE 6 Crashes when trying to print to Epson Stylus Photo 1400

Has anyone had an issue with PSE 6 crashing when trying to print a single photo from the Organizer?  I have tried to print photos directly from the Organizer and each time I do, the application crashes.  I can open the photo in the editor and print directly from the editor with no problems.  It's not the printer becuase I can print from other applications to the printer.  I can also print to my HP PSC 2355 with no issues. but for some reason, I cannot get the Organizer application to print to the Epson.  I have uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it.  I have checked to see if there are any updated drivers - there are none.  I'm running PSE 6 on Windows Vista 32-bit.  Any suggestions what else I can try?  I hate that I cannot print to my new printer!

Try deselecting the print options "EXIF Print" and "Print Image Matching".   Unfortunately, the Search function of the new forums doesn't work yet for older messages, but I did find this thread cached by Google referring to a similar problem:

(I find myself using Google more and more to search Adobe's site, unfortunately.)

  • PSE 9 crashing when Organiser button selected.

PSE 9 crashes on opening if the Organiser icon is selected. Edit icon does not crash program. Windows states "PSE 9 Elemnts Organiser has stopped working, will look for cause/reason then closes program.

    Hi,
Can you please let us know which operating system you are using.
You might like to start by reseting you preferences as described in section 3 of this document

If that doesn't work, there are other things we can try.

  • PSE 9 Crashes on Trying to Email

I can get as far as awaiting the confirmation code when I'm trying to email photos (through Adobe), but then after I enter the code, the organizer crashes...and the error says something about being related to "sharing dll"...This is very frustrating, since I can't seem to convert 10 meg photos (jpegs) into smaller than 500k images, so if I want to send a group of them, I can't.

Didn't work...either way, whether through the attach to email or photomail options...both crashed. Error message was mod.sp.share.dll 3.00.00 ofset 0002...something else...both ways it crashed...thanks for trying.
