Public Folders \ Global Contacts causes appcrash in Outlook 2010

Placing this under Exchange 2013 because the error occurs regardless of what PC I test from.
I have a client we did a major over haul for.  New 2012 server running Exchange 2013 migrated from 2010.  They have several global contacts set up in categories.  There are a handful of these that cause Outlook 2010 to crash with an appcrash
when attempting to send an email from certain categories.  After selecting the category, I select new email from the menu. Crash is immediate.  PC OS is Win 7 Pro, both 32 and 64 bit.

I am truly stumped.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi,
I test the issue on Windows Server 2008 R2 and I found the frequent contacts appeared on the To-Do bar if I opened Outlook 2010 firstly and then opened Lync 2013 client.
So please make sure Outlook 2010 and Lync 2013 client to the latest version and then test again.

  • Public Folders with Contacts vs Address Book

Which is the better approach: public folders with contacts or setting up an address book?
I want to set up some sort of address book to hold details of some of our major clients. Rather than each person maintaining his/her own address list the plan is for everyone to maintain a single list. As soon as we deal with a "new" contact at
one of our clients that person's details go into the central list and we all benefit.
In the past we've used public folders. However, it seems to me that they are quite a hassle with OWA so i was wondering why we don't simply create a new address book with:
New-AddressList -Name "MyCo – Customers" -RecipientFilter "(CustomAttribute1 -eq 'MyCo') -and (ObjectClass -eq 'Group')" -RecipientContainer "ad.ilbs.co/Habitats/myco"
    or should I use New-OfflineAddressBook -Name ...
Our team run a variety of systems (Windows and Mac) and a variety of phones (mostly IOS and Android)
    Roger

    Hi Roger,
According to your description, you want to share the contact which is created by each client users in OWA and Outlook to all other domain users for contact sharing. Is it right?
If that is the case, the Public Folder is an option to achieve this as you mentioned. For address list in server side, only the administrators who have related permission to Exchange server can create an address list in Exchange server generally.
For client users, they can’t create the address list for all other users using, though the contact folder permission is set to reviewer for all other users.
If you are using Public Folder contact (default folder permission set to Author), each user can create contacts in this folder and the contact can be visible for all users. Then the client user can do the following settings in Outlook to
manually add the Public Contact to address book:
    1. In Outlook, open Public Folder.
    2. Right-click Public Contact folder, select Properties.
    3. In Outlook Address Book tab, check Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book.
    4. Click OK to save the setting.
Then the Public Contact folder should be added in the Address Book.

  • How can I view or sort or group my CONTACT GROUPS together in Outlook 2010?

How can I view (in my contacts list or address book) or sort/group my CONTACT GROUPS together in Outlook 2010, separately from the individual contacts?

In the Contact folder, use a custom view that shows only Contact groups.  Create the filter on the filter dialog's Advanced tab -

  • Unable to sync contacts and calendar to outlook 2010 or iphone 5

I work in IT and several of our clients are have trouble syncing contacts and calendar to outlook 2010 or iphones.
I have uninstall itunes completely from the computer, deleted the backup and clear the sync history nothing seems to be working.
Is there are problem with the latest itunes and if so when will the fix be release???

This is exactly what I am dealing with. Blackberry Link will work great for awhile and then something happens and I can not sync my contacts. I have spent many hours and days trying to fix this to no avail. BB support has been great but I still go through a long process each time. This week I finally gave up and started using the Microsoft Hotmail Outlook Connector since my company does not offer Active Sync or Exchange. It works flawlessly. I would dedfinitely check it out. If you swith to a Widows Phone or Android this is one of the options they recommend you use.
In a nutshell Link is awful and BB should be ashamed of the product they put on the market. I will only use it for syncing pictures and documents. Good luck!

  • How to export ALL my contact groups ( 20) from Outlook 2010 on one machine to Outlook 2010 on two other machines

My problem is how to export ALL my contact groups (>20) from Outlook 2010 on one machine (finally established with great pains from a more user-friendly client) to Outlook 2010 on two other computers.  All the help files I've seen refer to
export/import of only a single Group.
Outlook seems to be an extraordinarily limited and user-hostile environment for managing an address book.  By way of comparison, the Mulberry client I've been using for years (which is no longer supported) run circles around Outlook for ease of
handling -- everything in the address book, groups and individual, can be exported and imported in a single file.  My computer support staff have warned me about the difficulties of handling groups in Outlook.  Is Microsoft really that incompetent,
    or just sadistic ?
Thanks for your help with this.

After a lot of screwing around I finally hit on a solution, which is to export and import contacts using a .pst file (which transfers both individuals and groups) rather than a .csv file -- which transfers only individual contacts but leaves groups untouched.
Why isn't there a clear and simple message from Microsoft saying this in all the so-called Help files on moving contacts in Outlook?

  • HT1386 having trouble syncing/downloading contacts & calendar & tasks from outlook 2010 to iphone4s help please.

having trouble syncing/downloading contacts & calendar & tasks from outlook 2010 to iphone4s help please.

I had the identical problem.  I still don't know how to sync the tasks, but here's how I did the contacts and calendar:
    1.  Connect the 4s to the computer.
    2.  Open iTunes.
    3.  Click the iPhone box in the upper right corner.
    4.  Click on the info tab.
    5.  Hit the checkbox Sync Contacts with... and choose Outlook from the dropdown box.
    6.  Ditto for Calendars.
    7.  Hit Apply.
My problem was that originally, I wasn't getting the checkboxes.  I turned off the iCloud settings on the 4s.  That did the trick.

  • How to migrate public folders from legacy (exchange 2003 ) to exchange 2010

How to migrate public folders from legacy (exchange 2003 ) to exchange 2010 . Please suggest ?
    Aditya Mediratta

    Hi Aditya,
    please find the answer in
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/agobbi/archive/2010/08/04/how-to-move-public-folder-from-exchange-2003-to-exchagne-2010.aspx
Please ensure you have a working mailflow from Exchange 2003 to 2010, vice versa, before you begin.
Basically it's the same procedure as adding some PF Database in E2K3; just
run .\AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 -server "Exchange 2010 Server" -TopPublicFolder "\" -ServerToAdd "Exchange 2010 Server"
Wait until some initial data started to replicate; after that run
    Update-PublicFolderHierarchy -Server "Exchange 2010 Server"
After replication has finished you can do a
.\MoveAllReplicas.ps1 -Server "Exchange 2003 Server" -NewServer "Exchange 2010 Server"
Please let me know if it worked.
    Kind regards,
    Martin

  • Lync 2013 Frequent Contacts not showing in Outlook 2010 on RDS

Running Outlook 2010 along with Lync 2013.
On a Windows 7 PC if I launch Outlook first, then launch Lync. The frequent contacts will appear on the To-Do bar after "refreshing outlook" (minimizing and maximizing or changing folders.
If I do the same thing on a Windows 2008 R2 RDS machine the Frequent contacts never appear. I have to close down Outlook and reopen Outlook for them to appear.
Does anyone have any detail information about how the integration between Outlook and Lync works to bring through these contacts?
    Thanks

  • Z30 & BB Link not syncing Contacts and Calendar with Outlook 2010

Just loaded Outlook 2010 and went to sync my Z30 with BB Link.
    1st attempt :
Configuration  :  Contacts : 2 way sync : Notify me when there are any conflicts
Calendar : 2 Way sync : Always use device data
    Result :
    No sync with Contacts
    No sync with Calendar
(Also, Contacts disappeared until I restarted device.)
    2nd attempt :
Same config. however no disappearing contacts this time.
Started sync at 6PM and at 8PM the sync appeared to have hung as it did nothing and there was no indication of any activity.
    Result :
No sync & restarted Link and logged in again to try again.
    3rd attempt :
Changed to one way from device to computer
Added Outlook to the files it looks in even though it already says it does that in the config. Section of the contacts.
Result  :  Still no contacts or calendar thought it showed it was doing the transfer.
After each of these I have shut down Outlook in case a restart would show the contacts.
    Running out of ideas here.

Mind sharing the version of your OS and BlackBerry Link?

It sounds like you are adding new contacts to your Outlook but they are not syncing over to your iOS device. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot that, assuming you are not using iCloud, named:

  • How can I sync my contacts and calender of Outlook 2010 with my iPhone?

I recently acquired a new PC with *windows 7 prof* and *outlook 2010* and whilst I am receiving mail, my contacts and calender are not syncronising?

Do you have sync contacts and sync calendar events with Outlook selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If not and your Outlook address book and calendar are empty, before selecting this and the first sync for this data, enter one contact and one calendar event in Outlook. This should provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.

  • CONTACTING SEVER FOR INFORMATION OUTLOOK 2010 -2013 TOTAL PAIN

Everything was running great in Outlook 2010 which was a nice change. All of a sudden one day I started getting the "CONTACTING THE SERVER FOR INFORMATION" popup and progress line when I click on some emails. Some with pictures but most not. I
dropped the bucks to upgrade to Office 2013 and what do you know. Same problem in Outlook 2013. I have read about this in the support site until I am blue in the face and have tried every "CURE" proposed. I have a stand alone computer loaded with
Ram and a 50Mhz cable connection. Never ever had this happen in Outlook 2003.
I am way past ready for MICROSOFT to fix this or post something that will really work and not tell people to play with the registry.  Fixing this stuff is Microsoft's job not the users who paid for tested working software.
Is it a setting?  Anyone Know?  I have never had a stall happen downloading pictures or anything else with my mail.  Neither has any of the 100 or so Vietnam Pilots I converse with.  None of them have upgraded to 2010 or 13 after hearing
    of this problem.

Thank you for your time to reply.
I am a simple home user sick and tired of spending weeks or months looking through page after page of internet postings for solutions to a problem that should not
    exist.
I am extremely tired of “maybe this will work” solutions the average home user neither understands or should have to understand.
    Microsoft wrote the software.
Microsoft got paid a lot for the software for which you do not even get a disk anymore.
Microsoft is responsible for fixing errors in their software, there always is problems, and sending upgrades free of charge to the users.
It is not the users job to spend weeks trying to find an answer to Microsoft Software Errors.
It is not the users responsibility to try to understand posted solutions that may or may not work and ask the Home user to play with registry entries or contact server
owners about subjects they do not understand or work with.  Start in safe mode and maybe it will work solutions just go on and on may be fine for technical people but it is not okay for the typical home user.
The thousands of posted efforts of people trying to find answers to this problem for MANY YEARS is an indication of how far reaching the error is yet in all these
years Microsoft Corporation makes no effort to provide a guaranteed solution.  Microsoft support people in countries far away from the source of the problem tend to offer technical solutions not workable solutions that work.  Solutions that do not
float above the normal home users lever of knowledge and according to thousands of post on the internet do not work.
    Before we go farther,
Tell Bill Gates to fix his product.  He is obviously not listening nor does he seem to care.  Billions in his bank and content to let software errors His company created continue forever.
Years of released software full of bugs is absolute proof of that.
We do not want a list of technical solutions that may work but according to the post do not.  We have already done all the option setting changes suggested as
possible solutions and the issue still exist.
This issue never raised its irritating head in Outlook 2000.  Why did it pop up in 2010 and 2013?
    Thank you for the reply.
    Mike

  • CONTACTING SEVER FOR INFORMATION OUTLOOK 2010 -2013 problem single user

I have the contacting server problem that popped up in Outlook 2010 after a long time without the issue.  Upgraded to 2013 2 weeks ago and same issue.
THIS IS A STAND ALONE COMPUTER.  Weeks of sorting through the thousands of post on this issue that Microsoft obviously has no serious intent to correct.  Tired of reading the maybe this will work answers relating to servers or requiring safe modes
and other fun things most home users know nothing about and should not have to if Microsoft would fix issues.  Not an issue to them after they have the money.
Again, stand alone high end Dell with maxed out ram and over 2 1/2 T HD space on a couple of drives.  NEVER had this issue with Office / Outlook 200, 2003 and for a long while with 2010.
Yes I do have a bad attitude about this issue.  Mighty tired of MS Software released with known issues since the first package came out.  Anyone really think Gates cares one iota about sold packages?

Thank you for the shot sat the Microsoft Error.
This message" contacting server for data" happens when I am opening mail
in Outlook.  There is not a constant.  Sometimes it does it on every mail as it is opened and sometimes it doesn't.,  There are many times when this message will not appear when a message is opened but will appear when the
    same message is opened later.
Message for=mats from my friends who flew helicopters in Vietnam with me are the same as they have been for many years.  Many years that this popup was not an issue.  No themes ever and only a few with signatures of the sender as always.
We have always had the many pictures of Vietnam an other things like the US Presidents crotch salutes to OUR flag  Never a problem until now on occasion and we use to never use pictures as attachments unless there were a lot of them at one time.
Running the same Virus Software I have ran for many years, McAfee.  Aside from having this issue come out of the blue with Outlook 2010 and continue to survive when I upgraded to 2013.
Bottom line is I have changed nothing aside from having this irritating bug crop up in 2010 yet not in any of the previous releases or over a year of using 2010.  What ever happened in 2010 was persistent enough to survive the upgrade to 2013.
One last thing,  I have my internet speed increased by Comcast which based on timing could not have created the issue.
    Thank you.
