Publishing site and webpart disable issue

I have installed SharePoint 2013 server and did the following.
1. Created a web application
2. Create a Site Collection
3. Selected "Publishing" template
4. Assigned "Site Collection Administrator"
5. I then tried accessing root site through client browser http://portal.mydomain.com
6. I went into the settings and selected "EDIT" to change the layout and changed into Two Columns layout and deleted default webparts except "Documents"
Now when I want to add a webpart like i used to do in SharePoint 2010 nothing happens and it seems like the webpart button is disabled.  Here is the snapshot ..Please guide how to add webparts and what to do to bring the webparts dialogue like in 2010
version.

It seems there are issues with Internet Explorer default viewing compatibility. For those who are banging their heads with IE 9/10 ...here is the solution
1. Access your site in Internet Explorer....
2. Press F12 key (developer tools)
3. do settings as below.
Cheers!

  • Differences between Publishing sites and publishing enabled document library

    Hi
what is the main differences between Publishing sites and publishing enabled document library
and how to enable publishing for document library?
    adil

Publishing Sites is an out-of-the-box site template designed to publish web pages and it comes with a pre-built workflow or without (depends on which template you pick). It comes with libraries such as Pages library, Publishing Images, or Site Images.
It is configured to fully customized the master pages (or add new ones), and page layouts.
There is no such thing as publishing enabled document library. A document library is not designed to publish web pages. You can have Site Pages library in a team site, but if you are looking to fully brand a site collection, then this is not your answer.
You will need to use a Publishing Site to fully brand your Internet or Intranet site.
You can enable the publishing infrastructure on any site that is NOT a publishing site, but this does not turn your provisioned site to a publishing site. It simply turns on publishing features, such as navigation management, master pages/page layouts management,
    publishing workflows, etc....

  • Published to folder iWeb site always using Times New Roman for every piece of text in published site and not showing the original text style used when building the site in iWeb.

    Dear All
Hello from rainy, windy and cold North East England! I need to ask for your help as I'm new to iMac and new to iWeb and it's frustrating the life out of me!
I'm just beginning to build a website for my business. Previously, I used Frontpage, but it's been that long since I used it - I've forgotten half of it and so, I'm using iWeb instead as it's silly to use an iMac for business but a PC laptop for the website design.
I've got the background image I want on the homepage (beautiful image of a rain forest - even if I do say so myself!) and I'm trying to enter a text box at the lower half of the screen, in the centre of the page saying 'click to enter'. I type in the text, I edit it so as to change it to the font style of my company (Gill sans MT) and then I publish the site to a folder so that I can see what it would look like when viewed via the internet. When I do this - the font changes size to a bog standard size of 'so small you need a magnifying glass to read it', it changes colour from black to purple (which looks disgusting) and it changes font style from Gill Sans MT to Times New Roman.
It doesn't matter if I delete the entire site and start again or delete the text box, and insert a new one. I've googled this subject until I'm blue in the face and I can't find an answer - can anyone suggest anything that will help?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Best wishes,
    Sean.

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: If you don't use  Web Safe Fonts any computer that does not have that font installed  will substitute another font for it and change the look and feel of the web page.
So it's safest to use one of those web safe fonts.

  • Publishing site and wingding font wont show?

    hello all
i am working on a site and want to use a letter from the wingdings font collection. when i publish the site though the wingding does not show up, but rather its traditional substitute (in this case a J)
is there a way around this or am i just out of luck with using wingding fontset?

is there a way around this or am i just out of luck with using wingding fontset?
I think you are out of luck trying to use a font that maps symbols to Latin, as display can never be reliable. It should work if you use something from the Character Viewer (view = code tables or all characters).

  • Webpart page in a publishing site

I have a Sharepoint 2013 on premise environment. Does anyone know how to add a webpart page or add the functionality so that it’s a little easier and more consistent?
Here is an article outlining how one might add a wepart page but my issue is that even when I go to the sitepages library and hit add new document from the files tab, webpart page is not available?
I am working in a publishing site and would really like this page type back. My users do not like the new page layout and prefer the old webpart page options.
    http://community.bamboosolutions.com/blogs/sharepoint-2013/archive/2012/11/05/how-to-create-a-web-part-page-in-sharepoint-2013.aspx

Under page layouts I have "site can use any page layout"  The problem that I am having is that this site was created as a publishing site. It seems when a site is created as a publishing site (as opposed to creating a teamsite and enabling
the publishing feature) you do NOT get the same options when creating a new page.
On the Publishing site when I create a page, I get one big column which my users can edit. Under the "Page" tab in the ribbon menu we have the option to adjust the "Page Layout" which seems to offer some options but does not function
like the old webpart page where you can adjust columns .  The options listed here are a bit limited and overly complicated for my user group.
On the Teamsite, with publishing enabled, when I create a page I also get one big column that my users can edit.  under the "Page" tab there is NO page layout button.  Under the Format Text tab there is a "Text Layout" button.
This is what my users are looking for.  This button gives my users the ability to quickly and easily change the column structure of the site.  It is simple and perfect.
Any idea how to add the "Text Layout" button to a pub site?

  • How to rate and give review for the product in SharePoint Contoso demo site by the customer/user from publishing site?

    Hi,
I am new to SharePoint, and am working on Contoso demo site.
I want to know where to give star rating and review for the product in SharePoint Contoso demo site. Even after spending enough hours i didn't find solution for this problem. All the answers i got was changing the List/Library settings -> Rating settings,
if i follow that, i get the rating column displayed in my catalog site. How can i bring it on my publishing site and let the customers give rating or review for the product from publishing site. Is there any OOTB feature in sharepoint or it shoul be customized.
    Thanks in advance.
    Akshaya

Are you using the Content Search Web Part?  Just tweaking that once the source library has had the rating column applied should work.  Have you tried this?

  • How to create a sharepoint 2013 replica site of an existing sharepoint 2013 publishing site

    Hi Team,
I have created a publishing site and used custom masterpage layouts for this site. now i want to copy this site in another site collection. How will i do that? I tried to export and then import a site template, by  creating a design package from design
manager. but it din't work. can anyone help me out?

    hi Shravan,
Thanks a lot for your reply. When using Design Manager package of SP2013, it is working and coping the master/layout pages. But the design of Default.aspx are gone - which were done using Content Editor Webpart. Not sure how to copy the page with content.
BTW - Export/Import does not work, when opening the new site after import- says - something went wrong and show nothing.
    When trying to import with
import-spweb -identity http://mysite/mysubsite  -path D:\subsitebackup\mysubsitebackup.cmp these two errors are in log file:
[ListItem] [seattle.master]   Warning: File cannot be deleted will try to append the file instead.
    *** Inner exception:
Cannot remove file "seattle.master". Error Code: 158.

  • Calendar view on page for Published site.

I have a subsite, and I create a calendar for meetings, on a new page I added a web part to show the calendar (calendar view). when I logged on the site, each event has their one link to details, (disform.aspx?id= something)  but as soon I publish the
page, and go and use the browser as anonymous (not logged), I can see the calendar but I don't have links to see the details of the event.
I know this work because on the same site I have another subsite with another calendar and it is working just fine, i tried and I know I did it in another site, I just don't have links in this one.
the collapse or add links show up and work fine, it is just the link to the events detail. Someone can help me?

I did a test in my environment with anonymous access in the publish site and the event is in the calendar.
For a better troubleshooting, I suggest you do as followings:
    1. Check the anonymous access in the site settings-> site permission->Anonymous Access->Entire Web Access.
    2. Check if you have deactived the feature “limited-access user permission lock down mode” feature in site collection feature.
    3. If the issue still exists, I suggest you recreate a calendar to test whether it works.

  • Office 365 publishing site

    Hi All,
I have a publishing site in Office 365, and we have created pages, and added content editor web parts in those pages.
Now the requirement is we need to create one more publishing site, and have all those pages with web parts moved to the new Site collection. As we have more than 50 pages, configuring the same will be time consuming. Please assist.
    Thanks
    Senthu

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to create site with all those pages with web parts.
Per my knowledge, when you create a publish site, it will have a “Pages” library.
Though you save the “Pages” library as template in the previous site, you cannot create a new “Pages” library in the new site.
As a workaround, you can create library with another name.

  • Calendar for a publishing site

I have a publishing site and would like to incorporate a calendar but when you go to create one, you have no option creating a calendar. Any idea how I could get this to happen?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
This is because by default the “Office SharePoint Server Standard Site Collection features” and “Office SharePoint Server Standard Site features” are not enabled in publishing sites, which prevents a lot of the typical SharePoint functionality from being available in publishing sites.
Please try to enable those features in your publishing site, you will see the calendar list in created page and allows you to use them in sites where you are also using MOSS's content management functionality.
    Hope it helps.

  • Synch published site with new Mac mini

I recently created a web site in iWeb and published to .Mac. I recently switched from the PPC mini to the Duo Core. How do I get the Website back into iWeb if I don't have access to the files on the old mini any longer? Am I out of luck? Thanks.

    Hi MrMacNewbie
If you kept a copy of your home folder then you should be ok, if not this is the specific file that you need:
    User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites
The domain file contains everything, if you dont have it, then sorry to say that its back to square one
You can of course copy/paste from your published sites and the files in .mac....
To install the domain file (If you still have it), launch iWeb on the new Mac, this creates preference files and a new domain file, and the /iWeb folder.
Then quit iweb, navigate to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and traash the new empty file and replace with your old one. Now launch iWeb, and hopefully you will see your old site

  • 2010 Publishing Site - Disable automatic spell check

We have a 2010 publishing site.. and evertime you publsih a page it does an automatic spell check. Can this be disabled?
I found how to disable spell check on lists but I need to stop the auto check on page publish.
    Thanks!
    sayitfast

    I also experienced this issue.
So i tried uncommenting the registerSpellingHandler() line in the Spellcheck.js files like suggested by sayitfast. This worked for me in my dev environment. But i didn't like messing around with the default SharePoint files under the 15 hive in the prod
    environment.
So i searched a bit more and found a decent solution for this. You can disable the spell check for certain fields by setting the "excludeContentFromSpellCheck" attribute to "true" on text area and input controls that you dont want to be spell checked. I
did this on all my page layouts. Now i dont get false positives anymore.
The solution i found was this one: http://blog.cube4.com.au/?p=1016
This worked for SharePoint 2013. I dont know if this would work for SharePoint 2010 also.

  • Publishing site - Add a list to Site pages - Ribbon items disabled

    Hi,
I created a publishing site in SharePoint 2013.
I created a custom list and added few data to it.
In the Home page of the site, I clicked on "Add Page". Once the page is created, I clicked on "Insert" - select "webpart" -  choose the custom list. I published the page.
The list was added. However on selecting any of the item in the list, the items inside the ribbon having "Items" and "List" seems to be disabled.
I have not changed any master page. I have owner permission in the site.
How to make the ribbon items visible when an item is selected? This is only happening for a publishing site template and not on a Team site?
Has anybody encountered this? How to fix this?
    Thanks

To my Knowledge there doesn't exist ribbon with "Item" and "List" categories in publishing page of publishing site template
I believe you have not checkedin the page and
Published  the page. Kindly publish the page and check if you are still able to find the ribbon with those categories disabled. I just tried and dint find it.Let me know if still the problem exists.
