Publishing to ftp server issues

Hi all,
hoping i can find some help from someone who knows more about xml (?) than me. Finished my site, published to a folder, then uploaded manually to my server. Its a very simple site with a main page and an external link to the forum. I haven't tried it with any browsers other than safari but i'm finding that some of my content isn't working, two errors are definitely my doing but i need help to fix them
issue 1: the original site name has a colon in it (b:ministries) but the folder on my server that the files point to doesn't. I went through and edited most of the img src tags to point to the real location. I have a problem with some of the java mouse over tags, i just can't seem to find where i've got shapeimage_4 sourced to b:monline_files/shapeimage_4_link0.png . I've been over and over the script but i simply don't know enough about it to find it. Can anyone source my page and tell me where i went wrong?
issue 2: my background refuses to show up i have it sourced correctly (i think), the code reads (minus asterisk, of course)
**<body style="background: transparent url("http://www.beulahyouth.net/images/Pattern Browser.jpg") repeat scroll top left; margin: 0pt; " onload="onPageLoad();">**
again, don't know that much about coding but it seems like it should be there. i didn't alter it from the default bg in the template. if i put the img src url into the address bar i do see the image.
issue 3: i see the QT icon on my site but no media is loaded i have looked through the script and don't see any references to the audio file or the QT placeholder bar. Is that normal?
Anyway. If you can't figure me out, its ok, the site is functional at this point but i think it needs a background
URL www.beulahyouth.net
any help hugely appreciated, i'm definitely a non-profit organization just a city youth group. thanks!!
iMac 17" Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.5 GB RAM

Thanks for the help, I just went into iweb and removed the colon from everything. The problem with the QT was resolved by moving the text box slightly down, and the problem with my background was that i needed to edit the spaces from all the files in the /Images folder.
Which is really much nicer because then I can post updates without quite as much effort

  • How do I get the RSS feeds to work in iWeb'08 when published to FTP server?

There are so many unresolved questions because I have published to an FTP server (Netfirms). HOWEVER, my next task at hand is to resolve the issue of a non-working RSS feed and download capabilities.
    The published website is www.vibrationalvoyages.com.
When using Cyberduck to upload to Netfirms, I have to call the file name vibrationalvoyages.com because Netfirms organizes my files under a main folder called www (I also purchased the .org and .net extensions along with the singular spelling of the title, have forwarded those url's to the .com extension, which means I have different website names under Netfirm's main folder www, all pointing to www.vibrationalvoyages.com).
I have to drop the www. in front of vibrationalvoyages.com when publishing to a folder on my computer so, when Cyberduck uploads the files into the main www folder, they are read correctly and published as www.vibrationalvoyages.com. In Cyberduck, the ftp address to upload is vibrationalvoyage.netfirms.com
Before uploading, I use iTweak to insert the Statcounter tracking codes. Then, I use Rage to optimize the site to cut down on the weight (lots of photos). Then, finally, I get to upload which takes about an hour and a half.
SO, HOW DO I GET THE RSS FEEDS TO WORK AS WELL AS THE OPTION TO DOWNLOAD AN MP3 RECORDED MEDITATIONS? I eventually also want to include the download option of podcasts.
Please help! I am doing the best I can to stay in love with Mac but he is turning out to be a pot load of work and the love affair is wearing a little thin.
I haven't even asked about why iWeb still calls some pages 'The family picnic" or why it switches the url addresses to the individual pages. Probably because in the early stages, I copied an entry rather than just do a new one... but I'll worry about that later. I want to get this 'fixed' first and then I'll address the issue, following Roddy's advice to another writer about installing a flash player, for easy download of the MP3 meditations and for when I record the lessons as podcasts. Until I get this RSS issue resolved, however, podcast downloads are out of the question!

    Thank you for checking, Tom,
I'm confused. What do YOU get when you push the feed button? And why is it working on yours and not either of my machines?
Today, my Mac (w/Safari 4) gets the same error message: Safari can’t open the page Safari can’t open the page “feed:http://vibrationalvoyages/vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_andApplications/rss.xml”. The error is: “The feed could not be loaded because the content is not in a known feed format.”
My little ASUS (with a Linux operating system) gets a screen that says "The requested URL was not found". The URL on that page is http://vibrationalvoyages./vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_andApplications/rss.xml
On both error messages, the URL I was checking was:
    http://www.vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_and_Applications/Divine_Light_Vibrations_Principles_ andApplications.html
The last URL was, of course, the URL generated by iWeb.
    So, my question still is:
HOW CAN I GET MY FEEDS TO WORK PROPERLY? If the problem is there shouldn't be an http:// after feed: then, how do I get iWeb to set it up properly?
    Any ideas?

  • 404 error when publishing to FTP server.

I'm getting the 404 error when publishing my iWeb site to my FTP server.  Please help.
It says I have a good connection and publishes but then I get the error when I "Click to go to the site."  I've read where I have to upload the file to my server but with the file index_html.  Do I rename my iWeb file, domain, to index_html?

I'm getting the 404 error when publishing my iWeb site to my FTP server.  Please help.
It says I have a good connection and publishes but then I get the error when I "Click to go to the site."
A 404 errors means the file is not on the server.
Checking the connection is just testing the FTP connection.
I've read where I have to upload the file to my server but with the file index_html.  Do I rename my iWeb file, domain, to index_html?
Do I rename my iWeb file, domain, to index_html?
No, you don't. The domain file is where iWeb  stores its assets. It stays on your computer. It has no meaning outside it. iWeb publishes the index.html file and all the other files.
Read this : The concept of iWeb Sites
So if your pages do not load, check for their presence on the server.

  • Getting remote file using FTP Server Issue in OSB

    Hi Guys,
I have configured a FTP server on my local system and I created a proxy service to get file from ftp location to some other location but it fails . I used ftp protocol for getting file
and my ftp location is D:\host\ftp and it has another folder called osb . I used ftp as protocol and EndPointURI is ftp://localhost/. It fails to get files and shows error message like
com.bea.wli.sb.transports.TransportException: <user:osb>Unable to list files for
    directory: .
    at com.bea.wli.sb.transports.ftp.connector.FTPWorkPartitioningAgent.exec
    ute(FTPWorkPartitioningAgent.java:218)
In case of Business Service, writing a file to ftp location (i.e ftp://localhost/ means D:\host\ftp\osb) working.
I used service account for both proxy,BS to connect . osb is username and same as password.
Can Any one please suggest me How to solve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Srinivas.

    Hi Vijay Thank you,
Can we do the pooling directly using FTP protocol like JMS protocol in OSB with out using FTP JCA Adapter.I did in such a way but it fails. For pooling files the mentioned endpoint uri is as ftp://localhost/ and it actual path is D:\host\ftp and ftp has another folder called osb here i have to get the files from this osb Can any one suggest me if there is any problem with the ftp protocol end point.
    Thank You,

  • Sometimes get error "looking for something on MobileMe?" after publishing via ftp server

I published a website I created on iWeb via an ftp server.  Sometimes it works, but sometimes I get the error "Looking for something on MobileMe?"  My web host says all my settings are correct, so the problem is likely to be in iWeb.  How can I fix this?

I use FatCow as both my domain registrar and my web host, a similar service to GoDaddy.  The FatCow tech support said all my settings were correct.  Here's a pic of the iWeb Site Publishing Settings page:
When I try "Test Connection," it succeeds.
I originally published using MobileMe, then switched to ftp using FatCow.  The ftp publishing worked at first, then I started getting the error message intermittently, now get it all the time.  The FatCow tech thought that something is likely to be imbedded in the code that is taking it to MobileMe.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Clarrification fro FTP Server issue

    Hello,
This is in regard to the problem we are facing with FTP server at sender side.
    In channel configuration,
    FTP Connection Parameters
Server : Enter the host name or IP address of the FTP server.
Can we give the IP address if we have any problem with the host name.
Is there any particular rules to follow when we are trying to use IP address to connect to FTP.
    Thanks,

Yes, you can mention whichever you want. There is no variation, the only thing system need to identify the receipient.
Thats it. I hope this clears ..
    Thanks.

  • Publishing via FTP server

I have now shifted my webpages from Mobile Me to a local web hosting service, and need to know how I go about uploading them to this new server in the way that was advised on a recent post: "When you FTP up the files, instead of FTP'ing the index file plus folder it generates, you FTP up only the contents of the "inner" folder (which also includes an index file). This creates the standard URL without repeated words. The whole process is simple - publish iWeb to a folder, FTP contents of inner folder." Please help!

When you publish to a folder from iWeb what you will get is a Site folder and a separate index.html file. Whatever you named your site within iWeb will then be the name of your Site folder - so if you called your site Site or S, then your site folder will then be called Site or S. Your site folder contains all the relevant html and CSS documents that you need for your site - so if you have a Welcome page then you will see a page that has Welcome.html, plus another folder that has Welcome_files. This contains all the CSS info - this being what your pages look like.
If using iWeb 08 you would publish to a folder and then use an ftp programme such as Cyberduck/Fetch to upload both your Site folder and separate index.html file to your server - these are placed in whatever folder your host has designated for you, mostly public_html. This means that your url is http://www.domain.com/sitename/pagename, but it does mean that RSS feed will work if you need it to.
The other way of doing this is by publishing to a folder and then using Cyberduck to upload just the contents of your Site folder rather than the whole folder itself. This means that your url will then be http://www.domain.com/pagename, but your RSS feed will not work like this.
If you are using iWeb 09, then for the built in ftp, what you need to do is place public_html into the directory/pathway setting and this should work. This should then upload the whole of your Site folder to your public_html folder on your host.
If you just want the contents of your Site folder and not the whole folder itself, then what you can try is to name your website within iWeb public_html and then place public_html in the directory/path and then if your sitename in iWeb is the same as your host/server folder then just the contents will be uploaded to your host and not the whole site folder - then your url will be http://www.domain.com/pagename.
It is not really that complex when you break it down.

  • I' m getting a "publishing error" when trying to publish to FTP server (DreamHost)

    Help!
    Sunny

If you are using the iWeb FTP this can be caused by bad file names - particularly image files. Make sure they don't have any spaces or special characters in them.
Other errors can be caused by having the Facebook update box checked in publishing settings.
If file names are not the cause, try the troubleshooting steps under "Fix iWeb" here...

  • Not all of my photos upload to my website when I publish it. when my site finishes publising I get an error that says, "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider."

Not all of my photos upload to my website when I publish it. when my site finishes publising I get an error that says, "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider."

I am publishing directly to an FTP server (option 1).  Is this the optimal method or should I be publishing to a folder and then (how do/would I?) publish to my hosting domain?
I'm wondering if this has really anything to do with the publishing process, or whether it just has to do with the photos and/or the photo albums.  I've deleted the photo albums with the missing pictures from my site on iweb thinking a file might be corrupt. (I'm getting the albums from iphoto -- drag/drop method into iweb) I then replaced these albums with the same albums as the previous ones from iphoto and then published my site again -- and the EXACT same photos were once again missing in the NEW albums as were missing in the old albums...
Maybe it is a publishing issue, or it could be a photo/file issue.  However, these albums aren't very large -- the largest containing 135 photos --
Please! if you have any suggestions or ideas as to what is happening I would be greatly appreciative!
I'm pulling my hair out here trying to diagnose the problem...

  • Cant Publish site through IWEB 09 FTP server in my computer

Hi everyone, I have trouble publishing my site in FTP server in my computer. Each time I tried, its saying my password is not correct.I have Macbook pro 10.5.6 intel. I tried publishing my site through another computer and it did!. I dont know whats wrong with my computer. I have Protec Mac antivirus installed. do I have to remove it? I have tried to disable its scan and still not successful. I have my own domain and purchased a 3rd party hosting service.
    Help!

    OT,
thanks for the reply. yes I can publish it using local folder. But the web site address in browser is sooooo long and starts with file://user/admin/folder/name of my folder/name of my domain name/page name in my web site. Not a good business image and looks so unprofessional I have specifically purchased a domain name and I would prefer it would show up when a client type my web address.
What I dont understand is that It has published from my husbands computer. Isnt the reason why we buy software and install in our computer is for us to be able to use it whenever we want to? (of course with compliance to rules and regulations) I have Ilife 09 and cant use the IWEB. I know that something is causing this "behaviour" in my computer because I am able to upload my site from another computer. I have to borrow my husband's computer everytime I need to update my small business web site.
can anyone suggest something I can do to resolve this issue?
would really appreciate it a lot!
    thanks.

  • Publish site / FTP issues arggg

Long time fan of Apple. Purchased iweb09 last week and built a site for my small business. <Edited by Host>
Well I have tried but I can’t resolve the following issues:
    (1) FTP Server Test Connection returns OK. But when I try to load the site I always get the following error message “*There was an error communicating with the FTP Server. Try again or check with your service provider”* How can I resolve?
Regardless of this the site actually loads – but IWeb does not recognize this as a successful upload so all the left-hand page titles stay red...
    (2) The site that has loaded on this basis - has some problems when viewed in Microsoft Explorer
    - some of the Stroke / Lines are not appearing
    - some of text overlaps – I realize that you can’t control other internet browsers – but would like to optimse for Explorer
Thanks for any help - cheers

If you're using the built in ftp client of iWeb you might try using the free CyberDuck after publishing to a folder on the desktop first. Many have had better luck with it.

  • I can't publish to an ftp server.  can you help?

    G'day everyone,
I've made a lovely iWeb site, but am having problems getting it online. I click publish and iWeb is busy for about 2 - 3 hours, eventually ending with this "PUBLISH ERROR" message:
"There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider." I've tried both suggestions, several times.
According to my web host co. I've entered the correct server address, user name, password, path, protocol and port. They also wrote to me "in the files uploaded I dont see any "html" files? I believe you have either not saved your website in the correct format or have failed to upload some content. Please also note that you should (from what I can see) only be uploading files in the jazzpiano.com.au" folder on your MAC to the public_html dir. Not uploading the dir jazzpiano.com.au" itself."
you can see what I have uploaded at http://www.jazzpiano.com.au/jazzpiano.com.au/
Any advice on how I can get iweb to publish to ftp properly would be most appreciated. It publishes fine to my local folder.

What your hosting service is telling you is correct. You have uploaded the folder - jazzpiano.com.au - and not the files inside it. This is a limitation of the iWeb FTP and why you should follow Ethmoid's suggestion of publishing to a local folder and uploading the contents of the folder produced by iWeb using an FTP application like Cyberduck.
The movies appear to be uploaded to the server....
    http://www.jazzpiano.com.au/jazzpiano.com.au/Media/clip-2010-05-30%2022%3b19%3b1 6.mov
    http://www.jazzpiano.com.au/jazzpiano.com.au/Media/clip-2010-05-30%2022%3b27%3b1 2.mov
.... but may not be loading in the browser due to spaces and special characters in the filename. Simplify this - 30%2022%3b27%3b12, load them into iWeb again and republish.

  • My i web version is 2.0.4. Can I publish my i web site directly to a FTP server address?

After Apple stopped hosting with Mobile Me, I moved hosting for my i web built web site to Network solutions. I was told by a Network solutions technician that I can publish an updated iweb site directly to a FTP server address. But I do not see that as an option with my 2.0.4 i web version. Can I update my
version of i web? Or do I need to purchase a later version of i web for this function?

You can open your iWeb 2 site in iWeb 3 and continue as before with the addition of FTP. However you should be able to upload with no problem in CyberDuck or Transmit - both are easy to use and reliable. Note that when you publish to a local folder you should usually upload the contents of the folder to the server, not the folder itself, unless you want the folder name (which must have no spaces in it) to appear in the URL.
Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service.

  • WRVS4400N FTP Server Time-out Issue

I recently installed a Linksys WRVS4400N wireless router.  After installing it, I began to experience an FTP connectivity issue.  (I use Macromedia Dreamweaver to do my web site file transfers.)   Although I can connect to my web servers and log in successfully, as soon as I attempt to transfer any files to the sites, I get a "Waiting for server..." error, and then eventually I lose the connection.
I tried disabling the firewall and IPS functions of the router, but that did not solve the problem.  I then uninstalled the WRVS4400N and reinstalled my old Symantec Firewall Appliance 100, and FTP file transfers worked fine, as they had before.  I then reinstalled the Linksys router, and the problem returned.
Obviously, the Lynksys device is causing this problem, but I can't figure why.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Similar issue resolved this AM. When I called they already knew of the issue and I read some posts about updating to a beta firmware HOWEVER, they first instructed me to 1) re-download the firmware (encase of prior corrupted download) 2) backup my Settings 3) reflash the firmware 4) try FTP (which worked) 5) restore settings I was extremely dubious about this working, but low and behold, Filezilla is back up and running properly. I am rather surprised myself. Else just call, they already know of the issue.
