Pulled network cable... RMI freezes forever??

I have RMI basically doing some remote tasks on various servers and all goes well... unless I pull a network cable out of a machine that is an RMI Server.
My client, at this point, issues a request to that "server" and sits... forever.
What I really need is a way to know that the reason it is waiting is because the server is simply not in a ready state. If I time it out somehow, the timeout may not know if it's a long process... worth sticking around for... or if it's waiting for no reason at all. So, for example, if I have a process that takes a few minutes usually... I'd like it to hang out. But I'd like it to just give up if it can't even get a connection to the machine...
What's really odd is that I'd expect some sort of exception to be thrown... but nada... it just hangs... and then actually answers the function call when I plug it back in.
I've looked through these forums and all over the place to find an answer to this issue... and have had no luck.
So, if anyone has any ideas... PLEASE help.
Thanks in advance!!

2 things.
1. there are several timeouts which will kick in eventually. Generally though they take 5-10 minutes.
2. If this is not bad code on your part, then its a function of your connection mechanism which could be due to yoru OS, or whatever is in your connection path. For instance, I connect to my rmi server, and if I pull the cable, my RMI client is aware the instant I try to make another call. Or if there is an active call it is instantly interrupted. And exception is immediately thrown in either case. However, if I am tunnelling over ssh, through an ssh client, and I pull the cable, the java program does not know instantly because my ssh client I guess does not instantly reveal this information.

  • Regarding Pulling out network cable from cluster node

I have two cluster nodes installed with my application.
I have pulled out the Network cable from the primary where my application is running. So the primary is not reachle from remote box.(cannot ping primary)
I have found the following error messages
SUNW,hme0 : No response from Ethernet network : Link down -- cable problem?
I have found the device group and resource group online the primary and the sun cluster does not failover to secondary node. Does Sun cluster support this scenario ?
Or do i need to any additional configuration? Can i get clarification on this

    Hi Sudheer,
if you have two interfaces in your ipmpgroup, I am missing the test address.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-3000/emybr?l=en&q=ipmp&a=view
    states a hostname.hme0 as:
    192.168.85.19 netmask + broadcast + group testgroup1 up \
addif 192.168.85.21 deprecated -failover netmask + broadcast + up
    and for hotname.hme1
    192.168.85.20 netmask + broadcast + group testgroup1 up \
addif 192.168.85.22 deprecated -failover netmask + broadcast + up
you can safely replace the addresses by names if they are in /etc/hosts
In this case the -failover flag for the physical of your example is wrong.
If you only have one adapter,
One line in /etc/hostname.hme0 like you stated in your example is correct.
this is from one of my clusters.
    deulwork20 group sc_ipmp0 -failover
it is the ipmpgroup Sun Cluster creates for you if you do not specify anything else. so for one single adapter one line like "hadev1 group sc_ipmp0 -failover" is correct.

  • Administrative request queue freezes forever

We are building a scenario for master / master replication with two servers and one instance each..
The API is used to execute this operation. First time this was executed in LAN (2 M) and all the process has completed successful in 15 minutes.
Same process needs to be done in WAN (64K), and now (in this WAN) we got events as follows:
    -     when executing ADD_MASTER_DATABASE, both instances put a lot of administrative request in its queues. Those request are never executed. It remains in status `AWAIT_CALLBACK` forever. We kept the process running for 10 hours with no results.
    -     Then, once there is no activity on queues we do a “shutdown” and restart both instances. So the queues starts to work until be empty.
Servers are Windows 2000 Advanced Server, running Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.6.
    Thanks for any help

  • Sizzle, Cracking sound near Network Cable or Mag Power Connector?

I've had my new Macbook for about two months now. This morning, for the second time, when booting, there is a loud (volume as loud as loading a CD into the drive) crackling, Sizzling type of sound coming which appears near the magnetic power input. Both times this has occurred, it has lasted for about 30 seconds, I did pull out the power cable, the network cable, all USB connectors and the sound didn't go away.
Sounds like a shortwave or A.M. radio on an untuned station, starts as a crackle, then more of a static sound, which generally increases in volume to a maxiumum (for about 30 seconds), then shuts off.
I've only noticed this twice on a cold boot after the MB was powered down overnight.
Anybody else have this type of experience?

It sounds like you may have accidently frayed the power cable. My FAQ* has good reference links for you to determine if this is the case:

  • Network Cable unplugged

I have BT Total Broadband Anywhere Home Hub 2. I have used it successfully on my desktop pc and wirelessly with my laptop. However I went away for 2 months and was unable to use either (everything was switched off whilst away).  On my return the laptop can't connect at all, I just get two grey monitors with a red X and the information 'A Network Cable is unplugged'. I bought  a netbook when away and am having the same problem with that now.
On the laptop that worked before, on my Network Connections it is showing as follows:
    Local Area Connection 2
    Network cable unplugged
    Broadcom 440 x 10/100 Integrated Controller
    1394 Connection 2
    Connected
    1394 Net Adapter #2
I have tried connecting to the Hub with an ethernet cable without success and when I run the Hub Manager on the laptop it just says it can't connect with the hub. When I run the Hub Manager on my desktop it says there is no wireless device detected.
A check on the laptops device manager hardware shows everything as working properly, but when I try the Wireless WLAN configuration utility in Control Panel it tells me there are currently no wireless adapters available and enabled.
I am getting desperate as I cannot sit at the desktop for any length of time and need the laptop, please can anyone help?

Hi, the devices you have mentioned are the 'wired' connections.  On most laptops, there are switched you can press to turn on and off wireless, is it posisble this has been done?
You can check to see if 'wireless network' appears by selecting the Start Button, then click on Control Panel and open, you should see 'Network' (doing this by memory) and open that up, you will see Wired Lan and Wireless Lan.
If Wireless Lan is disabled, you can right click on wireless lan and enable it, that should work.

    hi new89z,
    Welcome to the Forums.
The ''Network Cable is Unplugged'' message usually appears if you don't have any ethernet cable attached to the laptop. If you connect via WiFi, you can hide the icon by following this microsoft article.

  • Equium M50 will not recognise the LAN port - error: Network Cable unplugged

I own a Toshiba Equium M50 and have problems with the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.
I used to connect via an 'ADDON' Modem/ADSL Switch and had no problems. I then replaced the ADDON with a 'NETGEAR' DG834G ADSL Modem/Router to gain the wireless port, and since then my machine will not recognise the LAN port. <error: Network Cable unplugged>.
I know that the cables are OK as I used them with other laptops and had no trouble. I can also plug in a PCI card to connect without any problems. It looks to me as if the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller has a problem with the netgear Modem/Router.
Anyone out there with a similar experience and some advice/suggestions?
    PLEASE

    Hi
For me it doesnt show like a LAN card problem but your router is a problem.
Check the device manager if the LAN card was properly recognized. If there are no yellow exclamation marks so everything is ok!
You can try to delete the LAN card from the device manager and after new reboot install the LAN driver again.
The issue has stared after installing or connecting the new Netgear modem router.
Therefore I would recommend to checking firstly the settings or to update the firmware on this router.

I've unplugged and plugged it back in, reinstalled iTunes, reset the network settings on the phone, made sure everythings up to date and reset the service in Windows to no avail.

  • Connecting Windows XP to Airport Error: "Network Cable Unplugged"

Situation: Having bought a new computer I gave my old Airport Extreme (a model I bought about 4-5 years ago; one of the white pointy dome ones) to a friend, and attempted to set up their network. My goal was to connect the apple computers (one 2.16GHz iMac and a titanium macbook) to a wireless connection, and then connect their old wireless-less PC with WIndows XP to the airport with an ethernet cable.
Problem: The wireless network works fine for the Macs, but when I connect the Airport to the PC with the ethernet cable it says "Network Cable Unplugged", and doesn't connect to the internet. I have swapped the cables, so I know that they're fine, and before I attempted all this the computer was corrected straight to the modem through the same port and worked fine, so it's not the port, either.
Also, I don't think it's the ethernet port on the airport, as I was using it last week with an iMac and it was working fine. But on this I'm not entirely sure. Right now I have the cable from the modem going to the Airport port with the broken-dot circle, and the cable to the pc coming out of the (only other) ethernet port (with the sign <->). If I swap the ports used (with the modem going into the <-> port) the PC works, but the wireless drops out. So that's no good.
The PC is using Windows XP, which is quite foreign to me, so I don't know the tricks. I haven't found any other threads on here with a similar problem, so if anyone could give me some advice as to how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated!

By a "128 bit password," I assume that you mean that you have the AirPort Express (AX) set with WEP encryption...correct? ...and that the Mac is connecting to the Internet without any problems...correct?
If you turn off encryption, can the PC access the Internet thru the AX?

  • OS 4.1 Tethering with windows "network cable unplugged"

wow, this just happened to me. Tethering was working for me yesterday. After my update to 4.1 (not sure if this has anything to do with it) it no longer works. The tethering network connection is there in my network connections, but it shows as disconnected. I run windows 7 64 bit.
Just to rule out things, I tried it on my work laptop which runs windows XP.
I also just tried it out on my girlfriends macbook pro which runs OS X (10.4)
    freaky....

i uninstalled itunes on my windows 7 PC, restarded and reinstalled it.
tethering worked ONLY for the first time. after that it's the same problem, network cable is unplugged.

  • Getting a strange error message - network cable unplugged (on a wireless router?)

I have a Linksysy wireless WRT54G ROUTER that is connected to a Dell PC desktop and a Toshiba laptop. I got everything hooked up just fine and everything worked great for 2 months and then 2 days ago I started getting an error messgae saying that a "network cable was unplugged and the wireless connection was lost." I can no longer get Internet connections or connect to Outlook. Anyone know why this would happen and MORE IMPORTANTLY, how to fix this?? The connection to the Dell still works interestingly and the "link" indicator on the cable modem is blinking on and off. Please help!

well the first thing that you should do, if you have not done this already is check the network cable on the computer with the issue and make sure that it is snapped in securely. If it is try to connect again. If at this time it still states that a network cable is unplugged, try another cable and see what that does for you. please get back to us and let us know if it still states that the network cable is unpluged.

  • Toshiba laptop (C55-B5302) has "network cable unplugged" error message repeatedly. Why?

I recent purchased Toshiba Laptop running Windows 8.1 at local Best buy.  The models number is C55-B5302.
When connected via ethernet cable, I keep seeing an error message in network adapter settings saying "network cable unplugged".
However, this "unplugged" message switches back and forth repeadedly from "connected" when I am not doing anything to the cable.
My internet is very sporadic because of this.  I replaced the cable but still same error.
Any idea on how I can resolve the issue?
    Please help.  Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try downloading and installing the latest LAN driver:
RealTek LAN Driver File: tc40213700b.exe DOWNLOAD Version: 8.024.1218.2013 Posted Date: 2014-03-13
If that doesn't fix it, it could be faulty. You might want to exchange it.

  • Linksys Network Everywhere Model NH1005 - Network Cable Unplugged / Blinking Lights

I just replaced a computer on our network.  I connected the network cable to Port 2 on the hub, and it blinks.  I switched ports to make sure it wasn't a bad port, but continue to get the blinking lights.  On the computer, it's telling me the network cable is unplugged.
    Any ideas?

Make sure you are using a patch cable and not a crossover, the easiest way to tell is to compare the ends of the cable side by side and make sure the colors are in the same order.
