Pure java jdbc driver which is free

Ok, so now I realize that I need to use a pure java jdbc driver integrated my database web application in order for it to be utilized across the internet. (I'm using the MSDE 2000 SQL server currently)
What I'm looking for now is a free pure java jdbc driver that I can use on my IIS webserver. I also need some very simple configuration instructions.
I'm using JBuilder as my IDE and the 1.4 SDK.
I'm semi new to this web database java application stuff but this should be my final hurdle to master and then I'm well on my way to producing some very useful programs.
Please HELP!
Thanks in advance

  • Opensource jdbc driver for foxpro (dbf file)

    JDBC-ODBC bridge? I read about it. But I have doubts:
    The dbf is in a windows system. Can I use the bridge it to connect remotely from a Linux System?
    If true, Do I need ODBC driver in the Linux System?
    However, I think jdbc is more standard (maybe some day the dbf will be moved to a "normal" db)The idea of the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver is that it is JDBC. So in your code you use JDBC. Then, in essence, the bridge driver maps your JDBC calls onto ODBC ones instead.
    As far as the Linux part of this goes... I honestly don't know. I think I once heard of someone successfully doing this but I could be wrong. You would for sure need an ODBC Unix driver for DBF. I would suggest searching this forum (for using JDBC -. ODBC on Unix/Linux) before spending a lot of time going down this route. Like I said I think it is possible but I could be wrong, I've never done it
    anyway and it wouldn't be a really popular idea.'
    So that sort of leaves you wanting a type-4 (pure Java driver for DBF). I think your choices at this point are:
    1) Pay money. I believe there are non-free pure Java JDBC drivers for DBF. So you would have to pay money for it however outside of that this is probably the easiest solution and best fits everything else you've talked about.
    2) Don't use JDBC for the DBF part. Like the link I posted earlier there do seem to be a few free open-source projects for reading and writing DBF files from Java. This plan though has the serious drawback that it will tie the database interaction code tightly to DBF and not be portable to another database.
    3) Drop FoxPro.
    So I think your customer needs to pick the option above that best meets the requirements.

  • Using a Third Party JDBC Driver that has dependencies [Version 2.1.1.64]

    I am trying to connect to a TRIP database (a product from Tietoenator). They offer a JDBC driver which I have already used in java applications. So I can confirm that it works. What makes that driver perhaps a bit special is that it needs 3 other jars to operate.
    So I need these jar files
    <li> tripjdbc.jar (this is the actual jdbc driver)
    <li> tripjtk.jar
    <li> triputil.jar
    <li> xercesImpl.jar
    I have tried to place all of those jars into the Tools > Preferences > Database > Third Party Drivers dialogue [as suggested here|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/thirdparty.htm]. But that does not help.
    Following the docs of Tietoenator I need those 3 libraries in the path of the java app the JDBC driver shall be used from. This is where I currently fail. How can I add those to the classpath of the SQL Developer? I assume it is a *.conf file somewhere in the SQL Developer home directory ... ?
    Thank you for any suggestion.
    EDIT: I am using SQL Developer on a windows box. May be of interest.

  • JDBC Driver at 'lh setup' Problems on MYSQLDB

    I just installed a small IdM showcase in my company wanting a remote MYSQLDB as index Database for IdM.
    When runnig setup I try to access the JDBC Driver which is installed in my Tomcat/common/lib directory as well a in my /idm/WEB-INF/lib directory as mysqljdbc.jar as explained in IdM Installation manual.
    But the setup procedure tells me:
    'com.waveset.util.ConfigurationError: Failed to load JDBC Driver 'org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver':
    ==> java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/aspectj/lang/Signature'
    so the Driver is not found and I can't use the MYSQLDB.
    Can someone give me some hint/tips on that?

    Are you using java 1.5 ??
    Any way try the following.
    Download and store aspectjrt.jar into <WSHOME>/WEB-INF/lib along with ur mysql connector. Remove the same from common/lib .

  • JDBC Driver error when working in command prompt.

    I have a swing program that connects to MySql Database. When run within the Netbeans IDE, there are no errors. But when I run through the command prompt, I get the User Interface screen but does not connect to the database. I have also added the "mysql-connector-java-5.1.6-bin.jar" file in the jdk folder.
    The error I get is "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" which is the driver I have been using in Netbeans. How do I get over this problem?

    The error I get is "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" which is the driver I have been using in Netbeans. How do I get over this problem?1. Fix your GUI so it reports the problem, rather than relying on command line output.
    2. Fix your class path which doesn't have the driver jar.
    3. There is a JDBC forum.

  • Runtime Error using JDBC Driver in NetBeans IDE 6.9.1

    Hello,
    I receive a compiler error which reads as follows;
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver
    java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: Schema 'DEMO' does not exist
    Heres the main body of code i am trying to execute.
    public class Main {
    @param args the command line arguments
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    // TODO code application logic here
    try{
    Class.forName("org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver");
    }catch(ClassNotFoundException e){
    System.out.println(e);

    I am using NetBeans IDE and have created a database under: Services->Databases-> Java DB->SimpleDBDemo.
    I have a database connection in which theres a simple table (called "TABLE1") created which contains the names and ages of two people. I am trying to access the data of these two people.
    From what i can figure out i am getting a runtime error. I have downloaded a folder called "Microsoft SQL Driver 2005 JDBC Driver" which contains the "sqljdbc.jar" executable file. I copied the jar file to the library in "Program files->Sun->javadb" and then added the file to the project libraries section i.e. "Project->properties->add JAR/Folder->sqljdbc.jar" in netbeans.
    I am still getting the same runtime error. Have i the sqljdbc.jar file added in the wrong place?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Microsoft SQL Driver 2005 JDBC Driver is not the Derby driver.
    You need the correct JDBC driver for the database you are using, you can't simply grab the first one you find.

  • Can we design our own JDBC driver?

    I am thinking of desigining a JDBC driver which will be working bit like a bridge between the original drivers and users programs. My driver will give user an independence from syntax binding with the Database SQL and PL/SQL language. That is it will support (and convert) any SQL/PLSQL syntax and convert it according to the database user is using. I don't know whether it is possible or not. Please help me to check the feasibility of this.

    I don't know if there are drivers that do what you want to do. However, there are a lot of open source drivers out there. If they don't do exactly what you want, by looking at their code you may get a better understanding of what it takes to code a jdbc driver.
    Here are some links of other jdbc drivers (googled: open source jdbc)
    the db engines provide jdbc drivers, so most all in the first link should have implementations.

    I have my own performance tuning/monitoring api called JAMon. Currently it has the ability to track SQL performance, Exceptions and more by adding the following simple line of code to your program. The code below is db independent.
    My next release will provide a jdbc proxy driver, so even the following code won't be needed.
    import com.jamonapi.proxy.*;
    Connection conn=...
    Connection monConn=MonProxyFactory.monitor(conn);

  • JDBC driver - how to choose

    Has anyone been able to discern the differences (pro or con) between using
    A. IBM Toolbox for Java JDBC Driver (aka 5722JC1) - type 4 JDBC driver - OS-independent.
    B. IBM Developer Kit for Java JDBC Driver - type 2 Native JDBC driver - only runs on iSeries - uses OS-dependent optimizations.
    This 'choice' is part of the early stages of installation

    Hi Doreen, Volker
    Volker, I don't agree completely to your statement. Options A and B are equally tested in our labs. Maybe there are slight differences in test coverage but not by intention.
    It is important to know the following regarding the drivers:
    - Option A (toolbox driver) must be used when the system is distributed on multiple host (iSeries 3 tier, Linux or Windows App Servers)
    - Option B (native driver) offers performance benefits
    So, if it is planned to run the system on one single host, I'd prefer the native driver. For 3-tier or App Servers, toolbox driver must be chosen.
    However, if you have installed a native driver system and want to install an App Server some time later, you can always switch to toolbox, SAP note 826449 describes how to do that.
    Best regards, Christoph

  • Best JDBC driver.

    We are currently using MS JDBC driver, which does not perform very well. can someone suggest some other JDBC drivers? and why it's better than MS JDBC driver.
    Thanks.

    How do you know the JDBC driver is the problem? Have you profiled it?
    What are you doing with the database?
    Do your tables have proper indexes? Are the queries optimized? Have you run EXPLAIN PLAN on them?
    Sure it's not network latency on your code? Could you be doing (n+1) queries by doing a SELECT and then iterating over the result instead of doing a JOIN?
    You can try jTDS, but if your code is the problem it won't make any difference.

  • Problem in Java Application Server 7 2004 Q2 + MS SQL 2000 + MS JDBC Driver

    I have two applications runing on window 2000 server + Sun Java System Applilcation Server and connect to SQL Server 2000 + window 2000 server.
    The JDBC driver is Microsoft JDBC type 4.
    Both of them are with Local, Remote Ejb and session beans.
    All of the ejbs have a unique jndi name. Each app has its only ejbs.
    The problem I am facing is that If I deploy one of them, only one, every thing is fine.
    However, If I deploy both of them , only one of them works.
    I started the app server serval times. However, every time I got a different fail app.

    Hi again, Thanks for the reply!,
    I understand the part that you mentionned about specifying the database name. That is not what is causing me a problem : I was reffering to an instance. A new feature of MS SQL server 2000 -> you can have multiple SQL server instances, which means that each will have its own set of databases. Kinda like having multiple virtual servers but on the same machine. With ODBC, you can connect to the DEFAULT instance by just specifying the server name only. When you try to connect to a non default instance in ODBC you must specify it like this : '\\server_name\instance_name.'. I have found no way to do this with the type 4 MS driver (writting it like this : '//server/instance' or any other way was unsuccessful). Does anyone know how to do this or if it can be done with the MS driver???

    Hello Paul,
    Thanks for you suggestion. Based on it , I did add the exact jar file in the PATH environmental variable in XP.
    Path=C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jar;C:\oraclexe\a
    pp\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\bin;C:\Ora
    cle\product\10.1.0\Client_1\bin;C:\Oracle\product\10.1.0\Client_1\jre\1.4.2\bin\
    client;C:\j2sdk1.4.2_06\bin;Even after adding the specific jar file *("C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jar")* ..I am getting the exact same error. moreover, to verify this I also tried to import import oracle.jdbc.driver.*.....and now my code would not even complie and I get error *(c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_13\bin\OraThin.java:3: package oracle.jdbc.driver*
    does not exist ) . I also rebooted my machine just to make sure ...that didnt work either. Also, I changed these jar to be first in the PATH varibale ..to avoid conflict with any later .jar's classes. The code is :
    import java.io.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
    public class OraThin {
      public static void main(String[] args) {
        try {
    System.out.println(System.getProperty ("java.class.path") );
          Connection con=null;
          Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
          con=DriverManager.getConnection(
            "jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:15282:ServiceName",
            "scott",
            "tiger");
          Statement s=con.createStatement();
          s.execute("SELECT SYSDATE FROM DUAL");
          s.close();
          con.close();
      } catch(Exception e){e.printStackTrace();}
    }What am I missing here!! ?
    Thanks again,
    Sam
