Purpose of using string field

how to use string field and its purpose...

STRING: Character string with variable length This data type can be used only in types (data elements, structures, table types) and domains. In the dictionary a length can be specified for this type (at least 256 characters). It can be used in database tables only with restrictions. For a description of them, refer to the documentation of the ABAP statement 'STRING'. In ABAP, this type is implemented as a reference to a storage area of variable size. The system proposes 132 characters as default for the output length. You cannot attach search helps to components of this type.
SSTRING: Short character string with variable length. In the Dictionary the number of characters can be specified for this type (from 1 to 1333). This data type can be used only in types (data elements, structures, table types) and domains. It can be used in database tables. To do so, refer to the documentation of the ABAP statement 'STRING'. In ABAP, this type is implemented as a reference to a storage area of variable size. String fields of this type can be used in indexes and in the WHERE condition of a SELECT statement. You cannot use them in table keys

  • How to Sort JTable data using Multiple fields (Date, time and string)

    I have to fill the JTable data with some date, time and string values. for example my table data looks like this:
    "1998/12/14","15:14:38","Unicorn1","row1"
    "1998/12/14","15:14:39","Unicorn2","row2"
    "1998/12/14","15:14:40","Unicorn4","row3"
    "1998/12/17","12:14:12","Unicorn4","row6"
    Now the Sorted Table should be in the following way:
    "1998/12/17","12:14:12","Unicorn4","row6"
    "1998/12/14","15:14:40","Unicorn4","row3"
    "1998/12/14","15:14:39","Unicorn2","row2"
    "1998/12/14","15:14:38","Unicorn1","row1"
    ie First Date field should be sorted, if 2 date fields are same then sort based on time. if date and time fields are same then need to be sorted on String field.
    So if any one worked on this please throw some light on how to proceed. I know how to sort based on single column.
    But now i need to sort on multiple columns.So what is code change in the Comparater class.
    Thanks in advance.. This is urgent....

    I think your Schedule objects should implement Comparable. Then you can sort your linked list using the Collections.sort() method without passing in a Comparator.class Schedule(Date date, String class) implements Comparable
      public void compareTo(Object obj)
        Schedule other = (Schedule)obj;
        return date.getTime() - other.getDate().getTime();
    }

    HI,
    WILDCARD characters which are used for comparisions with character strings & numeric strings.
    Refer samplecode:
    Example to select all customers whose name begins with 'M':
    DATA SCUSTOM_WA TYPE SCUSTOM.
    SELECT ID NAME FROM SCUSTOM
           INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF SCUSTOM_WA
           WHERE NAME LIKE 'M%'.
      WRITE: / SCUSTOM_WA-ID, SCUSTOM_WA-NAME.
    ENDSELECT.
    Example to select all customers whose name contains 'huber':
    DATA SCUSTOM_WA TYPE SCUSTOM.
    SELECT ID NAME FROM SCUSTOM
           INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF SCUSTOM_WA
           WHERE NAME LIKE '%huber%'.
      WRITE: / SCUSTOM_WA-ID, SCUSTOM_WA-NAME.
    ENDSELECT.
    Example to select all customers whose name does not contain 'n' as the second character:
    DATA SCUSTOM_WA TYPE SCUSTOM.
    SELECT ID NAME FROM SCUSTOM
           INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF SCUSTOM_WA
           WHERE NAME NOT LIKE '_n%'.
      WRITE: / SCUSTOM_WA-ID, SCUSTOM_WA-NAME.
    ENDSELECT.

  • Report using Parameter Field

    Hi,
    I have designed one report using Parameter Field which is Cost Code (string).
    When I run my report, I ask to enter cost code. When I enter cost code 30, I get report for all transaction of cost code 30 and 300.
    How could I avoid this problem.
    Thanks

    Try with this
    {Project_cost.EXPENSES_Code} IN {?Cost Code}
    and also
    Check the query formed after giving the input parameter. Goto Database --> Show Sql Query.

  • ALV report using the field catalog

    which is the quickest way to generate an ALV report using the field catalog merge.  without needing to build the field catalog manually .
    is it easier to create a structure and passe it in the field catalog merge .  if yes can i have an example plzzzz

    hI
    Supports the creation of the field catalog for the ALV function modules
    based either on a structure or table defined in the ABAP Data
    Dictionary, or a program-internal table.
    The program-internal table must either be in a TOP Include or its
    Include must be specified explicitly in the interface.
    The variant based on a program-internal table should only be used for
    rapid prototyping since the following restrictions apply:
    o Performance is affected since the code of the table definition must
    always be read and interpreted at runtime.
    o Dictionary references are only considered if the keywords LIKE or
    INCLUDE STRUCTURE (not TYPE) are used.
    If the field catalog contains more than 90 fields, the first 90 fields
    are output in the list by default whereas the remaining fields are only
    available in the field selection.
    If the field catalog is passed with values, they are merged with the
    'automatically' found information.
    Below is an example ABAP program which will populate a simple internal table(it_ekpo) with data and
    display it using the basic ALV grid functionality(including column total). The example details the main
    sections of coding required to implement the ALV grid functionality:

    What is new Gl account?what is the purpose of using that New Gl?

    Hi Kishore,
    Let me clarify you. First it is not new GL account but the New GL functionality.
    With the introduction of MySAP ERP 2004, SAP introduced also a new functionality with SAP Financials. This functionality is given the name New General Ledger Accounting, or NewGL.
    The new GL functionality has many uses like
    Supports different reporting purposes: Legal entity reporting, segment reporting, management reporting;
    Option to expand standard accounting with industry specific fields and customer-defined fields;
    There is a new standard field segment in mySAP ERP: A segment is typically derived from a profit center (PC); it can be filled manually or defaulted recommonded for segment reporting.
    You can search the forum for more info on new GL

  • Add a carriage return in a Unbound String Field

    Post Author: Razzle00
    CA Forum: Formula
    Hi,
         How can I add a carriage return to an unbound string field in a crystal report.  I am using the bundled version of CR with MS Visual Studio 2003 & 2005.  My formula needs to look something like this....
    'Heading One:' + CARRIAGE RETURN + trim({tablename.fld_1}) + CARRIAGE RETURN + 'Heading Two:' + CARRIAGE RETURN  + trim({tablename.fld_2})
    this code all needs to be in 1 unbound string field.  Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Razzle

    Post Author: SKodidine
    CA Forum: Formula
    To add a carriage return, add CHRW(13)
    For example:
    'Heading One:' & chrw(13) & 'sample text';
    will result in:
    Heading One:
    sample text

  • A record selection problem with a string field when UNICODE database

    We used report files made by Crystal Reports 9 which access string fields
    (char / varchar2 type) of NON-UNICODE database tables.
    Now, our new product needs to deal with UNICODE database, therefore,
    we created another database schema changing table definition as below.
    (The table name and column name are not changed.)
        char type -> nchar type
        varchar2 type -> nvarchar2 type
    When we tried to access the above table, and output a report,
    the SQL statement created from the report seemed to be wrong.
    We confirmed the SQL statement using Oracle trace function.
        SELECT (abbr.) WHERE "XXXVIEW"."YYY"='123'.
    We think the above '123' should be N'123' because UNICODE string
    is stored in nchar / nvarchar2 type field.
    Question:
    How can we obtain the correct SQL statement in this case?
    Is there any option setting?
    FYI:
    The environment are as follows.
        Oracle version: 11.2.0
        ODBC version: 11.2.0.1
        National character set: AL16UTF16

    With further investigating, we found patterns that worked well.
    Worked well patters:
        Oracle version: 11.2.0
        ODBC version: 11.2.0.1
        National character set: AL16UTF16
        Report file made by Crystal Reports 2011
        Crystal Reports XI
    Not worked patters:
        Oracle version: 11.2.0 (same above)
        ODBC version: 11.2.0.1 (same above)
        National character set: AL16UTF16 (same above)
        Report file made by Crystal Reports 2011 (same above)
        Crystal Reports 2008 / 2011
    We think this phenomenon is degraded behavior of Crystal Reports 2008 / 2011.
    But we have to use the not worked patters.
    Anything wrong with us? Pls help.

  • Edirectory ldap, what do I put in the DN String field?

    Experts,
    I am trying to configure LDAP authentication. I've done this many, many times against Active Directory. In AD it is usually DOMAIN_NAME\%LDAP_USER%.
    This has been driving me nuts today. We are running eDirectory. I have my server's IP address and port.
    What do I put in the DN String field? I've tried many combinations of TREENAME\%LDAP_USER%, nothing seems to work.
    If it is more complicated than that, where do I look in NDS to figure out what I need to put in the DN String field?
    Thanks!
    Dan

    Dan,
    I'm actually surprised you had success with that on AD as I never did. I recommend you get a little lower level and use DBMS_LDAP. Here's a little sample code to get you started:
       FUNCTION ldap_authenticate (
          p_username IN VARCHAR2
        , p_password IN VARCHAR2
          RETURN BOOLEAN
       AS
          l_dn      VARCHAR2(256) := p_username || '@domain.com';
          l_bind    PLS_INTEGER;
          l_session DBMS_LDAP.SESSION;
       BEGIN
          IF p_username IS NULL
          THEN
             RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20001,'A username must be supplied');
          END IF;
          IF p_password IS NULL
          THEN
             RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20002,'A password must be supplied');
          END IF;
          dbms_ldap.use_exception := TRUE;
          l_session := dbms_ldap.init(
             hostname  =>  'server.domain.com'
           , portnum   =>  389
          l_bind := dbms_ldap.simple_bind_s(
             ld      =>  l_session
           , dn      =>  l_dn
           , passwd  =>  p_password
          l_bind := dbms_ldap.unbind_s(l_session);
          RETURN TRUE;
    EXCEPTION
       WHEN OTHERS
       THEN
          RETURN FALSE;
    END;Regards,

  • How to use Resever Field for Customer Master

    Hi
    My Client Requirement. Price should be determine with Sales ORG, Distribution channel, Division, Districts, Talukas and Villages.
    But Talukas and villages are not available in SAP standard systems.
    Is it possible to use reserver field in Customer Master for this purpose?
    If it is ok then please give suggestion how to use this reserve fields.
    Thanks in Advance
    Madhu

    Hello,
    the system-behavior that you describe is standard behaviour, because
    the fields which you are describe (village and ..) doesn't exist in structure KOMG.
    For using this field in the field catalog you can proceed like this:
    1. create a new field for example ZZvillage...
    2. add the new field in the table T681F for the application 'V' and the
       usage 'A'
    3. add the field to the include-structure KOMKAZ
    4. fill the new fields in the userexit for pricing
       (Pricing_Prepare_TKOMK (TKOMP)
    I hope that the information are helpful for you.
    regards
    Claudia

  • Is anyone successfully using Mobile Field service - laptop version  in 12.2.X ?

    We need this type of functionality but we  are on 12.0.6.  We are considering upgrading but we were going to upgrade later this year.  However, we need this type of functionality as soon as possible.  Is anyone using Mobile  Field Service in 12.2.X with laptops?

    Hardik,
    I am using an O2 XDA II with Pocket PC 4.2. I am using IAS 9.0.4.0.0.
    I have defined a service in my midtier which outputs XML with a signature box:
    <SimpleFormItem name="p_signature" type="signature"> etc
    My PDA displays the signature box correctly in the web browser.
    When I sign the box and press Submit the following data items are returned to the midtier:
    Query String: "sigSubmit=mySubmit&sig_width=200&sig_height=100&sig=&personName=tim"
    Notice that the sig data is null.
    I know that my IAS version is a little low, but, the problem appears to be that the plug-in in the browser is not returning any sig data.
    Do I have an old version of the plug-in?
    Have you used this plug-in?
    Has it worked for you?
    Do you know where I can get a newer version of this plug-in as it must work with Oracle Apps?
    Regards,
    Tim.

  • Use of Field "Note" (WT_WARNTXT, Tabke name-ACWT_ITEM) in Wht button-MIRO

    Dear Experts,
    What is the role of Use of Field "Note" (WT_WARNTXT, Tabke name-ACWT_ITEM) in Wht button in MIRO/FB60 Transaction.
    For what purpose it is used. This is field is allowing for any thing to be enter.
    How can we make it enable so that the geying out is removed.
    Regards,
    Alok

    Hi
    WT_WARNTXT - Field is just like a text field, you can enter the WHT information in that.
    There is no field status control available for this -  this is a structure field , which can't be controlled.

  • Use of field Ship to party PO number in order data

    Hi,
      In sales order header there is field for PO number sold to party as well as ship to party in sales order order data, on VA01 main screen we enter the sold and ship to party and PO number and date  this is then copy of sold to party PO
    now at present the Purchase order number in ship to party is always blank so if we use this field to enter the some other internal ref. number is there any effect of this.
    regards,
    zafar

    Hi,
    Sold to party PO field is BSTKD
    And ship to party field is BSTKD_E
    So both fields are different so you can use it for any other purpose
    But if you tell us for what purpose you want to use then we can able to suggest any other field which is easily accessible to user and have no conflict with any other field.

  • Use of field 'Payment Considered To' in Dunning Proposal (FPVA)

    Hi all,
    May I know what is the purpose of the field 'Payment Considered To' in FPVA? Let say I want to issue dunning dated 08 March 2010 (backdated). Can I use this field to limit the payment received by us until 08 March 2010? What if the payment received after that date (for example 16 March 2010)? Can the document still considered outstanding at 08 March 2010? What if I left the field blank? What it will take?
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    In case of payment order, the open item is marked as paid with the payment order number but the clearing entry is not made until the bank file is uploaded. The date may be given there so that it is indicated in the dunning letter as an information to the business partner. Usually only the current date may be indicated there. If no date is entered in that field then all the payments will be considered and no date will be printed in the dunning letter.
    I hope this reply clarifies your question
    Regards
    Venkat
