Push-to-talk with Nortel 6140 wireless handset + WLC 4400

Hi!
I'm trying to configure the push to talk feature built in to the Nortel 6140 wireless phone handset, but can't seem to make it work with our WLC 4400.
This is from the Nortel documentation:
"he WLAN Handset 2211 and WLAN Handset 6140 join the IP multicast
stream through Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) v1 reports.
Each handset continues to send IGMP reports as long as PTT is enabled,
so the IP multicast state is maintained in the network, even when there is no
active use of the PTT feature. The multicast address used to support PTT is
224.0.1.116, and the port is 5001".
I've tried to configure the WLC as described (enable multicast with address 224.0.1.116), but still it's no go.
Anyone got any experience with this?

That looks like the Spectralink group address. On the controller enable multicast and use an administratively scoped address in the 239.192.0.0/14 range, and enable multicast routing between the controller an APs. The phone group address should not be the same as the WLC/AP group address. I have also seen multicast-unicast mode work as well, but might flood your network.

  • Should my iPhone 1 (iOS 3.1.3) with Bluetooth 2.0 (Handset HSP?) work with wireless earbuds with BT 4.0 and the Headset (and Handsfree, A2DP, AVRCP) protocol? They pair and connect; status bar looks good. But audio always comes out the speaker. Thx.

Should my iPhone 1 (iOS 3.1.3) with Bluetooth 2.0 (Handset HSP?) work with wireless earbuds with BT 4.0 and the Headset (and Handsfree, A2DP, AVRCP) protocol? They pair and connect as expected (with a PIN); status bar looks good and shows Bluetooth active, and I even see the iPhone displays the battery levels of the wireless earbuds. But audio always comes out the speaker. (If I plug in wired headphones into the headphone jack then audio comes into the wired headphones, as expected.) I have rebooted the iPhone; I have had it forget about the wireless earbuds, and repaired and reconnected; I have reset all network settings. Thx in advance.
PS: I understand that more recent versions of iOS have a way to choose where audio output goes (speaker, headphone jack, Bluetooth device). Does this older version of iOS? I could not find an option or setting.

I've noticed this lately as well, with my iPhone 4. I couldn't confidently pin it directly on any particular iOS update, but my iPhone used to automatically connect up via Bluetooth with my Prius's handsfree feature, and now it doesn't. I work with a CE-based device at my job, with Bluetooth capability, and I used to test out that feature by having it discover my iPhone. This no longer works either.
What I have found (not really a solution, but it does work and may be a clue for Apple) is that if I simply go to the Settings app then the General -> Bluetooth screen and let it sit there, it will pair right up with my car within a few seconds. Bluetooth is always on, and always says "Now Discoverable" at the bottom of the settings screen.

  • Push to Talk on Android Phones

Will Verizon ever release a push to talk app for our android phones (Thunderbolt and DroidX) so we can communicate with other Verizon push to talk customers?

Who says you only want to talk to other Android phones?
Well, if you stop and think about what the OP is saying, with a company full of PTT flip-phones they cannot use all the fancy messging of which you speak.  Only Verzion PTT.
I have multiple ruggedized handsets with PTT-only service (can't even voice out) that we issue to workers in the field.  Unfortunately I cannot issue Android-based handsets to my managers because there is not way for them to talk to the workers.  Sure, they could add a market PTT app like Tiki but that will only allow Android phones to talk to each other.  The only impractical solutions, which undermines the whole PTT concept, is to issue two phones to managers.
It's a loose - loose situation for both me and Verizon.
Oh well, I don't need the added expense of paying for data plans for my managers anyway.

  • Support mobile wireless handsets on UC320, such as Cisco 7921/5?

The UC320 is great, a major improvement over the UC 520.  Can you talk about any plans to support mobile wireless handsets like the Cisco 7921 or 7925 on the UC320 so employees can be reached via local WiFi while walking around.
Also will the UC320 someday support a WiFi connection to the AP541N Wireless LAN Access Point?  Thanks.

The indecision Paul talks about in respect of the UC320W is in sharp relief to the Cisco OnPlus Agent and Service where there is community consultation on roadmap development and rapid delivery of these features.  I can only think Matthew is right and that Cisco thinks the features requested for the UC320W will bastardise their UC540/560 market.  At the lower end of that market they are probably right.  However, in my country a recent government report stated that 97 percent of all business enterprises employee less 19 people or less.  These enterpises employ around 80 percent of the working population.  By nature of their size these businesses simply cannot afford the UC500 range of products.  It is a huge market for a product of the UC320W's ilk but these business will not be fobbed off with a product like the current UC320W with a very limited range of features.
Right now the indecision in how this product is to develop means we do not sell it, albeit we believe it has great potential.  However, we can't sell potential without a defined and commited roadmap and commitment from Cisco to the product.  If not that, then please put us all out of our misery and EOL the UC320W.
Does the recently released SPA302D DECT handset have potential to be a DECT solution for the UC320W?

  • How to talk with a manager

I have had an ongoing billing issue since December.  I have been calling the customer support number explaining the issue over and over again with 30 to 60 minuet conversations and every time the representative has assured me things were taken care of.  When I get my bill the issue remains.  Recently I had a 2 hour conversation representative named Ryan and he was very helpful and explained that it was 100% Verizon's issue but did not know how to straighten out so sent me an email and said after supervisors discussed he would be I contact. After a week of being told via email supervisors were working on it, I asked what could be so difficult, if they could stop talking about it and just correct it.  I also asked to speak with a manager in an email. Ryan indicated he was sending on toa manager named Kolten.  A manager named Kolten called 4 days ago and I missed the call but have left at least 2 messages a day at different times hoping to catch him but also asking for a call back and if he missed me a time I could call him.  Nothing. I have reached back out to Ryan in three emails and nothing.  I am concerned that Verizon would have customer service people and a manager that would just stop communicating.  Is there a way to get another level of management that could not only handle the issue but also answer why people that are suppose to be helping just walk away from a customer?  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe I need to go to the store?

Thank you for your willingness to help.  You may want to go back and read all the comments on my account.  There is a huge history and record of my calls. It started back in December when I upgraded my daughters phone to an I 6.  (4683)  number on account) and added a phone for my youngest.  I was talked into the Edge program at the store on around 12-18-14.  It was a Christmas Gift for both.  Regardless by 12-31-14 the I 6 stopped working, it would not take a charge or turn on.  We took the phone to a store near our home (not the one where I signed up for the Edge program).  The people at the store tried to help and were on the phone with a Verizon representative for a while.  It was decided that I needed to provide my credit card so they could charge me a deposit and they would send me a new phone and as soon as they received the old (non working phone) they would credit me back the deposit.  We received the new phone and sent back the old (Verizon received on 1-17-15). I received my firs bill and fond a $450 charged for the phone and a $35 restock fee and then on my credit card got hit with a $235 charge for the phone.  This started my calls to customer service.  I was told not to pay the $450 and as it was for the phone and as soon as the warehouse did their paper work I would get the credit.  I will save the play by ply but called several more time and was told the same thing including the warehouse was backed up and they were suppose to put some note on the account saying why the bill was not paid.  I have always paid all other service charges every month just deducted the $450.  So 3 months later and the charge remains.   Beginning of march and went through all this with a rep and was told a supervisor was looking into it and charges would be reversed because it has gone on too long and none of this is my fault.  Also from my bill we discovered that the (4683 number) was not in the Edge program so I asked why and was told they needed to look into it and a supervisor  as it has gone too long.  Never happened.  I called Sunday 3-15 and went through everything again and was told a same thing and a supervisor would call...  Nothing..  I called 3-17 and talked to Ryan and spent 2 hours on the phone.  He was very helpful and we found the $450 was not for the phone it was for canceling the Verizon edge program and the $235 on my card was for the remaining cost of the phone.  After 2 hours and being told 3 or 4 supervisors were discussing what to do but could not come up with a clear answer he said they would call the next day with resolution.  Given I have gone down that road and no calls he gave me his email address so we could communicate.  So after about a week of emails he indicated supervisors were still reviewing.  Meanwhile I received a letter from Verizon indicating I was not eligible for the Edge program do an outstanding balance (really) and now I have concerns Verizon is knocking my credit even though they have reversed all late fees and indicated none of this was my doing and not to pay the $450 as it suppose to be reversed!  I asked Ryan if the Supervisors could stop reviewing and do something about this as it had been another week Ryan and I have been emailing.  I also asked if there was a manage I could talk with and was told he sent to Kelton and he would call (this was Sunday night (3-22-15) within 24 hours.  24 hours went buy and another email to Ryan saying no one called.  Kelton finally called Tuesday (3-24-15) and I missed the call due to being in a meeting at work.  I called back with in an hour and now have called Kelton at least two times a day and just receive voice mail. I have asked to be called back but nothing!  I have emailed Ryan at least 3 times asking for an update or why he nor Kelton are responding but as of today 3-28 Nothing!  I guess its your turn.  Let me know what the next step is as I am extremely frustrated with this entire situation as its awful how your customer service representatives can not resolve an issue and I have spent hours on the phone documenting and emailing.

  • 5140i - v03.80 - Missing Push to Talk menu item

    Hello all,
    I have a 5140i S40 phone running firmware version 03.80 RM-104.
The official user manual says Push to Talk should be available on this phone. It has an entire section on how to configure the PTT application. I'm assuming it's on the ROM.
The problem is that the Push to Talk application is missing from my phone. Its not listed anywhere in the menus or configuration of the phone.
How do I get it back?
    John

If you have an operator customized version, the operator (carrier, service provider) may have requested Nokia to remove it from the firmware.
It may also be available as a separate, user-installable app, but as far as I know, Nokia is no longer developing the PTT (or PoC, Push to talk over Cellular, as Nokia called it) technology, and they're probably not distributing the installation packages, either.
Note that if your operator does not support Nokia's PTT, then having it in the phone is useless anyway. In other words, if operator has not purchased and still run Nokia's PTT servers, the PTT app on the phone has nothing it can connect to.
Also, if only you have a PTT app, it is also useless, unless also people you want to use it with, also have the same PTT app, and also use the same network operator, and have also subscribed to the PTT service of that operator.
Alternative (for phones that support it): An IP telephony (VoIP, Voice over IP) solution, like Skype, Fring, etc.

  • Toggle mute (push to talk) and mute microphone

Been using skype while gaming with friends to communicate. I've disabled all hotkeys with the exception of toggle mute (push to talk). Once a call starts, I press the mute button on the call screen and the toggle mute works fine for communicating. However, every hour or so during a game I will randomly become unmuted and when I try to talk I end up toggling the mute on and no one hears me. Eventually someone will hear feedback or backround noises and tell me I've been unmuted. The mute microphone hotkey isnt active and just to be sure I made the hotkey ctrl+alt+shift+` so theres no possible way I can be accidently doing it. But somehow I'm still randomly being unmuted during game. Its incredibly frustrating because I have to alt+tab out and press the mute button manually on the call page. Has anyone ever encountered this or know of a solution to this? The only thing I can think of is that I'm somehow pressing the mute button on the call screen through the game's overlay which is full screen and I have no idea what to do to fix this issue.

Hi  Run the program as an administrator. This solved in my case.  It's probably a problem that is caused when Skype is out of focus. I think this problem will be solved in the next versions of Skype. attRafael de França

  • Unified/Documented problems with Creative WOW Wireless/wired headsets

This thread is to properly present the problems encountered with the WOW Wireless/wired headsets. I will be linking this post to the facebook page as well as World of Warcraft's facebook and Blizzards facebook if I can find one. Also Lucas Arts and THX. Lets see if we can get some eyes on this and move forward. If you frequent a popular site where others are discussing this please bring this thread to light there also.
If it continues unrespondid to my next step will be to notify consumerist.com.
Please note I am to date not having these issues but they seem to be common enough of an issue. (I suspect we may be able to find our own solution also.)
When posting Please follow the below template.
    Problem Description:
A non superlative description of your problem. Please just the facts here so we can all be very clear. Include any software tested with such as Ventrillo or WOW or games used that exhibited the problem.
    Problem Impact:
Here is where we want to share how this makes you Feel. Describe the negative impact to your leisure or professional time with this product.
    System:
Make/Model: (IE homegrown or Dell Optiplex xxxxx)
OS: (Operating System. Please include 64bit or 32 Bit.)
Processor: (i7920 or C2d6600 or whatever you have.)
Memory: (Amount of ram installed and running in the system.)
Video card: (What is the model of the video card in question? Memory installed on it? Manufacturer and such.)
Motherboard: (If you know the model. For instance. MSI x58M.)
Harddrives: (How many drives. What speed if you have them.)
Case: (what is the case? Normally I wouldn't ask but we are talking about Wireless transmission Who knows if that could matter right?)
Environment: (Where is the Wireless Dongle. About how far are you from it. Is something between you and the dongle normally? if so what is it? Do you plug it into the back usb port of your system behind a military grade metal desk from the 40's? That could matter.)
    Troubleshooting:
This is where we describe in as much detail as you can what was done. Lets keep this to facts and try and remove feelings from this portion.
I can only hope with this information I or others can come up with a good solution for us all. Or Creative labs and their associated partners involved on this headset can drive this to a resonable conclusion for us all.
I do want to remind everyone here that we are in a new consumer technology area. There WILL be problems. Creative labs had to know this. Blizzard had to know this. And THX/Lucas Arts had to know this. How this problem is handled will impact all three of these organizations. To what extent is yet to be seen.

    Problem Description:
Voice randomly becomes unintelligible and extremely distorted (think 70's robotic, accept you can't understand it) while in Ventrillo. My brother and I both have the same model headphones and we BOTH have this problem.
    Problem Impact:
I feel cheated out of $119.00 + tax. The main reason for these headphones is for raids and they do not perform the task they were designed for. My guildmates have to be tired of telling me and my brother " Dude your headphones screwed up again." I have sent tickets in and the solutions provided were lame. Reinstall software... mute the microphone? Seriously? All of which did nothing. By the 3rd Email I got nothing at all. Newegg has tons of complaints about this on their site and creative reponded to 1 complaint that was not about this issue, but skipped all with this problem which tells me they do not want to deal with it. I have been a LONG time customer and supporter of creative. This is making me reconsider. If I can't find a solution soon I will return them.
    System:
    System:
    Make Model: Homebuilt
    OS: Windows Vista 64 bit
    Processor: Core 2 duo E8400
Memory: 8 gigs of Corsair Dominator 1600 mhz
    Video Card: 2 x GeForce GTX 260
    Motherboard: XFX 3-way SLI Motherboard
Hard Drives 2 300 gig Western digitals 7200rpm
    Case:Thermaltake Cosmos S
    Enviroment: Wired WOW headset
    Troubleshooting:
So far the only make shift solution I have found to temporarily fix the problem is to disconnect and reconnect Ventrillo. The problem will definately happen again but buys a little time between distortion. The only firmaware I have found is for the wireless headset not the wired. The auto update feature says all software is current.

  • 6680 push to talk

hello all , need help working my push to talk on my 6680 evertime i try and switch it on i get the message unable to switch on . check ptt settings . can anyone help ?

You would need to contact your network and get their settings for PTT and then subscribe to the service with them. As far as I know none of the UK networks support PTT yet.

  • Push-to-talk menu doesn't existe on Nokia 6300

Hi everybody and sorry for my english, 'cause i'm french speaker most of the time. i'm the owner of new 6300 Nokia with un old Orange Contract.
1: so i've got this new 6300 nokia model yesterday (after i changed another one who wasn't recognising my sim card)witch seems to miss this push-to-talk menu: what semms to be the problem, cause in the user guide it is?
    2: in the same time i didn't find where we can check the level of the baterrie, ...if it exist;
3: can we change the ring tone of the amarm clock? if it is so where?
    Thanks, Janyjane

Hi janyjane I think for the push to talk function you need to phone your network up and ask them to activate it. As for the battery life i don't know of any other way to check it Only the top left corner. As for the alarm tone if you go into where your music is (ie) your memory card go to your music scroll down to the tune you want and go into options scroll down to use tone and select alarm from the list. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy

  • Disable or change global push to talk keyboard shortcut

When in a call in Skype there is a global keyboard shortcut of CMD + Option + CTRL + Up Arrow to enable push to talk mode. There is no way to customize of disable it. I tried adding a global shortcut in keyboard maestro, it was triggered but the push to talk mode was also triggered in Skype. Is there a way to make keyboard maestro take control over these types of global shortcuts?

Not sure for Mac, but in Windows I can enable, disable or change this option. However, according to https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12024/what-are-hotkeys-and-how-do-i-use-them-mac and https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12074/what-keyboard-shortcuts-can-i-use-with-skype-for-mac-os-x seems that these options are available for Mac OS.

  • 51 APs on voice vlan with 110 802.11 Handsets and 300 VoIP handsets?

There are 51 APs with 110 Symbol 802.11 voip handsets, along with 400+ Mitel VoIP Handsets on one vlan..using mask 255.255.240.0 should I be asking if this is excessive multicast traffic ?
Anyone used the IAPP with Aeronet? Any drawbacks, feedback? Should the APs/802.11 VoIP Phones be on their own vlan rather than the voice vlan?

    Jason,
Let me answer your question with another question - RTP streams from your phones would be unicast, unless you were using applications like multicast paging or multicast MOH. Are there any of these applications present?
For seamless roaming, you will want the APs to be located on the same VLAN and use the same SSIDs and addressing scheme across your wireless infrastructure. You could separate it from your voice VLAN for segmentation purposes, so long as DHCP services and QoS is present on your APs and distribution switches on the wireless VLAN.
A quick estimation of the traffic involved is 7.04Mb/s if every phone was being used simultaneously with a G.711 codec. Bandwidth would generally not be an issue, but latency and jitter are your priorities. Depending on how your wireless network is laid out, you shouldn't have more then 8-12 phones associated to a single AP or jitter, latency and retransmissions will become an issue.
    Hope this helps.

  • ISSUES 7921G roaming whit push to talk

    Hello,
We have a deployment with many Cisco AP around 100,  the AP are closer each other,This AP only works with 2.4 radio, because the radio of 5 don´t have anntenas to work so the only radio to cover the deplyment is the 2.4 Ghz.
The network was designed and installed by another company, they mounted 20 Aps to cover offices and  80 Aps to cover a warehouse mounted higt around  65 feet and there are separates each other around 41 feet.
I am having issues with 7921G phones roaming through a 802.11b/g, The phones do not seem to be moving on to nearby APs at the right time therfore alowing the call to degrade and drop out, I was hoping someone could give me some tips on WLC configuration and AP power to optimize the system already installed. I am really limited as to the amount and location of the APs
This issue it´s more when use the 7921G the push to talk  ficture
The WiFi network has plenty of APs installed. It certainly has -67dbm coverge in all areas and also a more than of 20% overlap.
    7921G  ver 1.3.2
    WLC 4400 ver 7.0.116.0
    CCM ver 4.0
    APs: AIR-LAP1242AG-N-K9
    Thanks you
    XU

    Hi,
I Used the tool, but the only change it´s recomended  it´s in the 802.11a network  but this frecuency its not possible, because the 802.11a network was disabled.
I upgrade WLC firmware to the  7.0.235.0, and the data rate there are available are 9  for mandatory and the other higher data rates are supported.
The security for the phones are wep, and the multicast mode are Unicast, becuase if I configure the multicast in  Multicast mode don´t work with the PTT.
I think in the Wired LAN dont have IP multicas routing. But I cant touch the LAN network.

is push to talk available for nokia 6680 ? if so where can i download it ?

well i brought it sim free ! yeah it should be available as included in memory card but the thing is i lost the memory card that came with this phone.
so i brought another memory card and need to install own. currently i have core software like image editor, image manager and real player.. i wanted the setup file of push to talk.
I can't speak for the 6680 as I don't have one, but on the N95 these programs are actually a part of the firmware, so live on the actual phone - not memory card.
When you refer to "the setup file of push to talk", you have to remember there are two components - the actual program itself and the configuration. The program will/should live on the phone and you get the configuration from your network operator.
One thing you could try is to update your firmware on your 6680 to see whether this brings back the PTT application.
Visit here to see whether there is an update available for your phone first :
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4305060
and if so visit here to update your phone :
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdater
However be aware that upgrading your phone will revert it to the configuration to when you first bought it, so if you wish to save the data on your phone, you might want to back it up using the free application Nokia provides called PC Suite which you can find here :
    http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite
After updating, you will also have to remember to contact your network operator to redownload all the settings for sending text messages and so on as the phone will no longer have these settings stored.
