PVCS version control integration in LabVIEW?

I am currently using the free 2 client Perforce software with LabVIEW.  It works well for my needs, as we have only 2 developers working on this project.  However, we were just got bought out by a larger company that uses Serena PVCS for their version control.  We are transitioning to their IT system and I need to transfer everything to a new server anyway, so was considering trying PVCS instead.
I would love to hear about anyones experience with PVCS integrated with LabVIEW?  Or even better, if anyone has the experience to compare PVCS with Perforce in terms of LabVIEW integration?  I need to weigh the two options.
Thanks for your help!

  • Jdev support with PVCS Version control system

    Hi,
Is there any JDev plugin available for PVCS source control system.
We have to use PVCS version control system for our SOA composites. If there is no plugin available, what is the approach commonly used for these scenarios.
    Thanks for your response.

Which JDev version do you use?
AFAIK there is no extension for PVCS available for 11g (check http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/webcontent/131167.xml).
Anyway if you have an external tool which lets you work with PVCS you can use it outside of jdev without a problem. Depending on the interface you might be able to do some kind of integration into jdev using the 'External Tools...' interface.

  • Version Control integration with SVN

We want to implement Version Control integration for Siebel Tools with Subversion (SVN).
After an informal chat with a consultant from Oracle, we got the reply like: Test, and see if it works.
Now for my question, does anyone know a project where they used SVN as the version control tool in a Siebel project?

  • SQLDeveloper Version Control

I have seen some posts regarding version control in SQLDeveloper. Evidently, integration with PVCS is a feature to be added in some future version.
There might be an easier way to handle it. If SQLDeveloper would allow us to specify a "version logging" folder, and if it would then create a new version of any edited source file in that folder, each time you press the save button, then this would handle 80% of the need, with only 1% of the complexity.
For example, suppose the object was named "MyView", and then I edit it. Then, in the logging folder, we end up with file name "MyView.sql" in the logging folder. If I edit again, then the previous version is renamed as "MyView 09-20-06 10_44_22.sql" (append the time and date to the file name), and a new version MyView.sql is put into the logging folder.
You maintain the time-stamped file versions, forever. You might have like a two week or 500 version limit, or something like that, so the folder does not fill up infinitely.
That is about it. If you made a mistake, and needed to roll it back, you just grab a previous version. If you want to check it into PVCS, then you just take the file and copy it into your source folder and then check it in.
You are never going to be able to fully integrate SQLDeveloper with PVCS, because the target keeps moving. Instead, you should focus on simple compatibility between the two approaches.
The current method of edits directly in the database and no roll-back and no ability to check-in the code other than copy and paste, this does not work.

Umm.. The reason that people ask for version control integration is to save time. Switching to another application to check in/out files is a huge waste of time as well as being error prone.
Tools like JDeveloper and Eclipse have histories like what you are asking for. Histories such as that are a great help when debugging files, but cannot be substituted for good source control integration.
Oracle, can we get the 'history' tab enabled in the file editors like JDeveloper? That feature is great in JDeveloper and would be a great edition to SQL Developer.

  • JDeveloper integration with Serena PVCS Version Manager

I have seen that Oracle JDeveloper 10.1.3 now supports Serena Dimensions for versioning. What about Serena PVCS Version Manager 8.1? Are there any plans to integrate JDeveloper with the PVCS Version Manager?

    Hi all,
Ward - Brian is absolutely right. As I said in my first posting on this topic (above), we have
not yet developed an extension for JDeveloper to enable users to work with PVCS Version
Manager, which I believe is a specific product, rather than an interface.
This is why I'd greatly appreciate it if you could possibly provide more details of this Interface
and indeed what Oracle support for PVCS with JDeveloper Merant referred to. Please see my
first posting above for more details.
Brian - I'm sorry you do not agree with our approach of using the open published SCM Framework
to build your own extensions for using JDeveloper with other source code control tools than those
    we support.
In an ideal world, we would have been able to offer support for every source code control tool on
the market with our first release of 9i JDeveloper. We were very keen to be able to achieve this and
we still plan and are currently looking into supporting more tools going forward and as many tools as
    possible in the long term.
Unfortunately, we only have limited time available for each release and based on the feedback we
received, after our committment to support Oracle9i SCM, CVS and ClearCase were the most requested.
Therefore, we tried to reach a compromise to enable users to provide their own support for a specific
tool should they wish, if they did not use any of those tools supported. Indeed, our research suggests
that the market for source code control tools is quite fragmented and that customers use a wide range
ot tools. So, we decided to publish our own SCM Framework, the same one we used for the SCM, CVS
and ClearCase support, in order to help users build their own extensions in a similar way to ours.
    Hope this helps,

  • LabVIEW with version control

    Hi,
I am using LabVIEW with version control and only want to check out the VI which I need to modify. If I changed a subVI all the VIs directly or indrectly called this VI got recompiled and in order to save them I need to check out all the VIs are affected. If I only check out the file I need to modify and ignore other recompiled VIs the problem is if I use typedef ENUM and I still want the automatically updated VI got saved. Does anybody run into this problem?
        Thanks for help!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes, it can be a problem since LabVIEW stores the source and compiled code in the same file. There is an option to separate source from compiled code that addresses this problem. I have never used it and don't know if it causes any other problems.

  • Version Control In Discoverer 10g - Apps with PVCS

    Hello,
I am using Discoverer 10g with Oracle Apps and PVCS is being used in the project for version control. How to Do version control for Discoverer Workbooks with PVCS.
    Please elaborate with an example.
    Thank You.

You can export the workbooks and version control the exported .eex file. You could do the same for Business Areas if desired.

  • Is there any plans to have subversion (SVN) source control support in LabVIEW 8?

I was wondering if there were any plans or any workarounds to tie into a subversion (SVN) revision system control system with the integrated LabVIEW 8 source control.
We are currently using rev. 1.2.3 SVN.
    Please advise.

Search the forums here or on Lava User Group.
Basically LabVIEW for Windows makes use of the Microsoft SCC API for
all version control activities and any source code control system with
such an interface can be used. The SCC API is treated by Microsoft as a
trade secret and you can't really get the specs without signing an NDA.
So there is not likely to be an Open Source SubVersion interface to be
out there soon but there is a company selling an SCC provider for
    SubVersion PushOK SubVersion Proxy.

  • Oracle Service Bus Configurations version control and deployment automation

    Hi,
Currently we have OSB10gR3 installed and we use the web based sbconsole to create projects and proxy services. It's all working well and good!!
We are at the state where we need to think about source control, migration of artifacts from dev to test and to prod.
I'm looking for pointers to version control the artifacts of OSB projects, what could be version controlled (no binaries) and how do we extract those artifacts?
How do we customize those artifacts while migrating to different environments in an automated fashion?
Please point me to best practices and gotchas that we should be aware of while dealing with deploying OSB proejcts from test to Prod.
    Thanks in Advance!!

After reading the threads mentioned by Deba, I'm able to get this all worked out with SBConsole itself. Experts, please review my approach below and let me know if I have overlooked anything.
Simple advantage I see in using sbconsole is that it requires less maintenance, i.e. avoids rolling out another IDE (Eclipse -Workshop plug-in) to IT developers and at the same time provides the functionality that we are looking for. Currently, JDeveloper is our primary IDE, so we thought it's best to wait till OSB development gets integrated into JDev.
This is the deployment workflow which worked for us,
    Developer:
1)Develops Proxy services using SBconsole in Dev environment.
2)Creates sbconfig.jar by using the export functionality available in System Administration link in sbconsole
3)Checks-in ALL the files present in the above jar into version control under the proxy service project name
    4) Creates customization file using the customization file link in System Administration and modifies the value for each environment i.e. creates two files test_customfille, prod_customfile
5)Checks-in the customization files into version control under the same proxy service project
    Promotion to Test and Prod
    1) From the source control, service proxy is built (actually the jar file of all files including the custom file is created)
    2) SCP proxy_sbconfig.jar file to Test or Prod box
    3) Follow the steps mentioned in Auto deploy of ALSB/OSB artifacts - Proxy, WSDL and webservices...
    4) Depending on the server, test or prod, pick the right customization file and deploy using ANT.
    Thanks!!

  • Application size in terms of pages and performance and Version Control

Currently I'm looking into the best way to version control our APEX applications. From other threads, it seems it's an area that leaves much to be desired. We are on the verge distributing a large APEX project commercially but I cannot find a suitable versioning method to support bug fixes and new development happening at the same time to the same set of applications. I just hope everyone out there realises versioning is a vital area of the development process and VOTES for it in the V3 poll.
Anyway, enough of the my whinging. I did have a brain wave (quite rare !). What would the drawback be to have only 1 or 2 pages per application. This would allow a developer to always import the application at the start of work (ie from versioning software such as VSS or PVCS) and then export it at the end back into say PVCS. The application has everything self contained and correct versions etc.
This would allow more developers to work on different areas at the same time as opposed to having many pages in the one application where developers could step on each others toes etc. I've considered importing/exporting pages but the fact you cannot lock shared objects means there is a possibility that if many developers are working on the same application someone will change something that affects pages other than their own. It would also be a nightmare to tie up different versions of of pages, shared objects, applications etc. Would there a performance problem with this method ? Incidentally, why can't TABS be shared/subscribed across applications. It means they have to be created separately in each application whereas things like Nav Bars and Templates can be shared across applications.
Currently, my thoughts are that: bug fixing for a production release has to be in a separate stream (apex installation) from say new development work for the same set of applications BUT what this means is that the bug fixes have also to be manually applied in the new development stream - which is a considerable overhead (ie twice the work).
Thanks for hearing me out - assuming you survived to the end !
Any encouraging comments would be appreciated !

    Wim,
I don't entirely understand the behavior. There should be little/no difference between the two cases. I'm assuming you have no indexes, which isn't recommended for such large containers anyway. Can you make your document set available to me so I can see if I can reproduce the behavior and look at it more closely? A single container, or dbxml_dump of a container is sufficient (both compress well).

  • How to add Stored Procedures to Version Control

My system mainly relies on stored procedures and I recently noticed I don’t have the version control for my database.
So, my question is: How can I add stored procedures to version control?

Once you have a database in a SQL Server Database Project, integrating to Source control is the same as any Visual Studio project. First you configure Visual Studio to use TFS for Version Control:
Then you can configure a workspace connected to a TFS server and add your projects to source control.
