PXE boot problem: guest VM DHCP request packets not able to reach DHCP server
Hi Gurus,
I'm wondering if anyone could help me with this problem. I wanted to install Linux on Oracle VMs using PXE. I set up a DHCP server and the OVM running RHEL6.4 box. The DHCP server worked fine since other PHYSICAL servers could get IPs from this DHCP server. However, DHCP requests from Oracle VMs was not able to reach the DHCP server. So I suspect this is a VM-specific issue.
If I type in "dhcp net0" on gPXE prompt on the OVS machine(sappire), I can see the requests were being sent from the OVS server (sapphire):

I turned off iptables and SELinux on the DHCP server, the issue still remained.

Hi,
- Do you install Oracle VM Server (OVS) on an emulated environment like Oracle VM VirtualBox ? if yes so you can't do it.
- Don't forget to configure the Virtual Machines Network and also to add this network to this Virtual Machine.

I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

If there is not enough RAM, OS X temporarily stores RAM data on the harddrive and tries to retrieve it back into RAM when needed, unfortunately that is so slow that GB throws an error as it cannot play it all in real time. -
Hello everyone!
I've got a PXE boot server running and I can boot my EEE 701 from it without issue, it gets to the installer but then I get asked for the source of the packages. Now, I don't have an Internet connection to the boot server, so that's not an option. I know I can mount something to /src to have the packages show up, but what am I supposed to mount, and where?

I mounted a USB stick with all the packages on to /src (I knew that had to be done) but I thought perhaps the installer would have mounted the packages from the tftp server to /src automatically. So now I don't understand the point of the separate installer CD?

It is stitched together rather imperfectly, I just made it because there was no other way of getting an install on an old laptop.

Actually no! I had problems with that (although I've done it before) I got an error: "Boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds" and the workaround(s) at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=77815 didn't help, so I figured I'd try the PXE boot.
Look, I'll be straight, I use Arch on an old box as a testing / development server for odd jobs. I left Arch as a desktop user a long time ago for Ubuntu where things "just work" - I don't have time to fix things constantly breaking on my main desktop. I thought I'd give Arch another go as a desktop OS on my EEE but I don't have the time (or inclination) to mess around with it anymore.
Ubuntu is installing from a USB stick as we speak.
Don't get me wrong: I LOVE Arch, as a headless, non-important playing around OS, I don't think I'll be using it as a desktop
P.S: Using Ubuntu has NOTHING to do with the skill level of anyone who chooses to use it. I HATE elitism! (rant over!)

W530/T530 PXE boot problem again
Our latest W530s and T530s won't load the OS off the PXE server
Previously, we only had to set the bios as discussed here

Under Security, we turrn Secure Boot off
Under Startup, we st UEFI/Legacy Boot to both with legacy first and CSM on
Under restart, we turn the OS Optimized defaults off
That's been working for months.
Now, the W530 (and T530) find the PXE server, we select the remote boot options, and it just hangs before (or as) it loads the boot.wim
No error message, it just sits there.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there some sort of bios upgrade that caused this?

Go to Solution.We are aware of the problem with LANDesk but I don't have any fix outlook. You can get previous BIOS versions from the download page:

Scroll to the bottom and you'll see all the previous versions. Note that to downgrade to a previous version you need to disable rollback prevention which is an option in BIOS Setup (look in the Security -> UEFI BIOS Update Option menu) -
PXE Boot a client to connect to a Remote Desktop Session Host/Terminal Server Farm via SCCM 2007

we've got a bunch of old desktops which are destined for disposal but i was wondering if we couldn't use them as disk-free clients to connect to our Remote Desktop farm. I did some digging and have managed to put together an iso which will boot
the machine into WinPE and then connect to our farm. However, since it's an iso i have to use either a cd or usb for this to work. (This is pretty much what i did: http://www.iammacgyver.com/2011/02/easy-rdp-60-from-winpe-30-simple-boot.html)
What i want to do is to advertise the boot.wim to the client via SCCM so that it boots via PXE and then picks up the WinPE image and connect to the RD farm. I've imported the boot.wim file into SCCM under Boot Images and created an empty Task Sequence
with the boot.wim as its Boot Image. I then advertised this Task Sequence to a collection which contains the old desktop clients. The machine PXE boots ok and loads up WinPE but rather than launch a remote desktop connection, it trundles through the normal
WinPE stages and once it's finished 'Preparing Network Connections' it simply ends and the client reboots.
Is what i'm trying actually possible?
Can anyone tell me why the ISO works yet pushing the boot.wim out as a Boot Image doesn't? I know the boot.wim file (which is the same one present in the ISO) is ok since the client boots into WinPE fine when PXE booted so why doesn't the remote
desktop session conenction launch? How is booting from the ISO different from booting from the PXE boot.wim file?
Slightly long winded problem so many thanks in advance to anyone who can pass some info my way!It doesn't work because importing it into ConfigMgr injects binaries and the task sequence engine along with the process to launch the engine thus suppressing whatever you've got configured.
Perhaps you could use a pre start command (pre-execution hook in 2007 parlance) to launch your RDP process though.

Problem with EM (Enterprise Manager is not able to connect to the database)

I've Oracle DB 11g Rel.1 installed on Windows XP SP3. The database is up and running i.e. everyone can connect to the DB by using any App tool e.g. SQL*Plus, Forms, or Reports. It means that the listener and the service is running. But the problem is that when I try to start the EM I see some error messages on the webpage.
It says:

Sometimes it's possible to forget this one:
Transaction SWDD, select the workflow WS12300111 and press CTRL+F8 (Basic Data)
there's another button "Agent assignment for task" (SHIFT+F9)
set task to "General task" with the "Attributes..." Button. (EVERY user can start this task).
And check this to:
Using transaction SWFVISU, check the following entries and correct these where required:

If you have a card on your account then it needs to be valid. If you are trying to add a credit card (I don't think that debit cards are still accepted as a valid payment method) then do you get any error messages when doing so ? It will need to be registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, be issued by a bank in your country and for you to be in that country. -
I tried to deploy remote os installation from wds on intel D915GAV board which has no builtin NIC, so first i install TP-Link Nic on one of PCI slot and add this NIC driver to Boot.wim on wds but still no booting from wds ............ pls help me anyone
thanksyes already checked that firmware upgrade and PXE has enabled.............. i also try TP Link NIC in Intel DG41RQ board but same no booting from wds and error appear for media failure check cable etc. while on DG41RQ builtin NIC it boot from same wds

Problem with Linksys Router Model WRT110 Not Assigning IPs With DHCP?

I recently purchased this router (WRT110) to take the place of my old Belkin that was continually dropping connections (which was a real pain when trying to download stuff off the Internet).
However, I cannot get this router to assign IPs to wired or wireless computers. I spent around 2 hours talking to Linksys support technicians (two total) before they finally told me the router was defective.
So, I went back to the store and got an exchange. But, it's the same story with this router, the connections can't get past the "acquiring network address" stage in the connection process.
I would like to think that this has more to do with my ISP than the router, but if I set up a static IP on the wired computer I can connect to the Internet and the router through its default gateway. Setting up a static IP on the wireless computer doesn't seem to work, however. If the ISP was a problem, wouldn't the router not detect the Internet connection at all?
DHCP is definitely enabled on the router also.
My ISP is a small town owned company. I have a wireless broadband connection, which works similarly to satellite, only the connection is broadcast via a tower and is received with an outside antenna.
I still need to contact them about this, but I figured it could hurt to ask here and see some of your suggestions.

~RJGUPDATE: I contacted my ISP today and the technician I spoke with said he didn't know of any problems any routers would have with their wireless broadband. I tend to agree with him, as I've configured two routers previously using my connection and I've never had any difficulty until now. He suggested changing the ethernet cable and releasing/renewing my IP address, both of which I did but I continued to have the same issues.
But, after doing some more research I found some settings that actually allowed my wireless computer to connect. There was a post in these forums referring to modifying the MTU, changing it from Auto to Manual and changing the value to 1458 actually seemed to work, as well as strengthening the connection by changing the beacon interval. Anyway, I can connect wirelessly now.
Also, I connected my Linux computer (Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron) to the router and was able to connect instantly, no problems whatsoever. So, out of my three computers, two are connecting, but my wired Windows computer is still having issues. However, if I set a static IP for that computer, I can connect fine.
I'm thinking maybe there is something wrong with the NIC card in that computer, but how would one test something like that?
It doesn't make sense to me, I would really appreciate any input. Thank you! -
IMac G5 boots to grey apple, fans speed up,, not able to use
i have a 20in 2.0 iMac G5 that wont boot past the grey apple. ive removed the power cable made sure that the cables are making clear connection, power is going through the supple, otherwise it would not boot at all. after the boot up, the fans start spinning rapidly and it stays there, till i hard power it off. any suggestions?
I assume that we are talking about a "G5 PPC 20inch iMac" even thought your profile reflects a "20" Intel iMac" which is completely different.
Couple things that you could try here:
1. Boot into Safe mode and see if it will boot into the desktop, then run Disk Utilities, Such as "Repair Disk".

2. You could try resetting the iMac SMU:

3. Boot into the install DVD that came with your iMac unless you have upgraded the OS and in that case boot from that install DVD. Then you can run "Repair Disk" and "Repair Permissions" from disk utility on the install DVD.
To obot from DVD:
Put the DVD into drive, then power-off Mac.
Power-on Mac and immediately press and hold the "c-key" until you get the language screen.
Select your language then continue.
On the Welcome screen, go to the tool bar on top and select the Utilities drop down then select Disk Utilities.
Run "Repair Disk" and "Repair Permissions" on internal OSX drive.
