PXI-5105 clipping voltage at ~19V

The PXI-5105 should be capable of measuring peak to peak voltages of 30 V.  I have a set of 3, 9V batteries to give me a total of 27 volts across a resistor.  The PXI clips this voltage around 19V however.  I confirmed with a multimeter I have 27 volts.  I have input impedance set to 1 Mohm.
Thanks for any help.

Hi cuxcrider,
The 30 V max range on the 5105 is a peak-to-peak voltage, which means that the highest voltage it can measure with respect to ground (0 V) is +15 V, unless you apply a DC offset, which unfortunately cannot be done on the NI 5105. You will usually see the rail voltage a little higher than the specified value, but generally you should not operate in that region as you risk causing damage to the board and taking measurements out of spec. Hope this helps,

  • PXI-5105 Minimum Voltage Range

    Hi,
I searched the forums for this question but did not get a concrete answer.  I'm using a Kulite ITQ-1000 pressure transducer attached to a RDP signal conditioner/amplifier which is then fed into the PXI-5105.  The signal has been set so that the maximum rated pressure outputs +10V from the RDP unit.  My question is regarding the minimum voltage level...  I noticed on the specifications for the 5105 that there is a "Minimum Voltage Range" of -25mV,25mV.  Does this mean that the minimum voltage input that should be fed into the 5105 should be no less than, in my case of only positive voltage, 25mV?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • How to aquire short circuit current from digitizer PXI-5105?

I was trying to aquire short circuit current with the digitizer PXI-5105 (it only gives me voltage). Any suggestions as to how I can make this measurements? I have gotten some hints from someone that we should use a Keithley (I have an old Keithley 237). Is this the case?
    Thanks.

Using a digitizer for current measurements is not generally recommended, as digitizers are made for high-frequency voltage measurements. Why are you using a digitizer instead of a DAQ card that's made to measure current, such as the PXI-6236? What maximum current do you expect?

  • How can I display an analog input to PXI-5105 out on LabVIEW?

    Hi ALL,
I am very very new to LabVIEW and I just started to fiddle around with it. I am running LabVIEW 2010 SP1 version on Windows 7 OS. I also have NI PXIe-1073 chassis with PXIe-6361 and PXI-5105 modules and the chassis is connected to my PC via PCI. I was getting myself acquainted with the devices and was trying to see some analog signals to one of the channels on the PXI-5105 module in a graph in LabVIEW.
    I would appreciate your helps.

  • Fetch and peak detection all channels of PXI-5105 with 4M record... HELP!

    Dear collegaues!
Please help me to improve performance my application, see attachment, and sorry for my English.
So, my task is to fetch and peak detection all (eight) channels of PXI-5105 with 4M record and sample rate 4M with loop 1 sec...
Inputs of all my channels are wiring to NaI detectors with 0,5...1 microsec of pulse width (really) and freq from 0 kHz to no more than 40 kHz.
Why I've selected 4M record and 4M sample rate namely? Answer is that I've tested PXI-5105 previously by generator 40 kHz and 0,5 microsec width pulse. It is working fine and peak detection indicate for me 40000 pulses/sec. If I set lower than 4M record and 4M sample rate it is no working. In my honest opinion 4M record and 4M sample rate are very min settings.
In the present time peak detection working only 6 channels... When I've connected to diagram more than 6 "peak detector.vi" - I see the error "...out of memory...".
Please advise me, what is to be done for that is all working fine.

What you are running into is an out of memory error in LabVIEW.  You have enough onboard memory to capture 4M samples per channel on the digitizer.  The issue is with fetching and manipulating that data in your LabVIEW application.  You will want to step back and take a look at how you are handling your data to understand why that is happening.
    1) 4M samples/ch = 4M Samples x 2Bytes/sample/ch = 8M Bytes/ch
    2) Expanding to 8 channels creates 64M Bytes of data in the raw binary format
    3) You are scaling your data by fetching in a 1D WDT format.  This stores each sample in a 32 bit double, expanding the memory to 256M Bytes (in addition to timing information)
    4) By splitting up the array of waveforms and branching data it you can easily create copies of this data, and if your consumer loop is not completed with the last data, you may be trying to capture a whole new set, creating yet another copy.
So you can see that while you have 1.5GB of controller memory, when dealing with large arrays of data you can easily eat up that memory.  There are several things you can try to make your application more efficient.  You could work with an unscaled binary data format, you can wire the array of waveform directly to the peak detect vi (instead of creating 8 copies, you will have a single copy with arrays of output) or you could revisit the record size you have chosen (experimenting with your threshold and width settings might help you to get the results you want with smaller record lengths).

  • Set PXIe 4330 Exitation Voltage to Zero?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is anyway I could set the  PXIe 4330 Exitation Voltage to Zero in Labview as a safety precaution when wiring the card?
I have tried to do so with the DAQmx Reset Device.vi but it has no effect.
As well, I tried DAQmx Create Channel (AI bridge).vi with the Voltage exitation value set to zero but that returns an error.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

  • NI PXI-5105 FSK Demodulation

I'm able to sample an FSK waveform (2MHz and 1MHz carrier frequencies with a 115200 baud signal) with my PXI-5105 Digitizer.  I'm now trying to demodulate that signal back into a binary stream.  Below is an image showing my front panel.
I originally wanted to use the Modulation Toolkit FSK demodulation block, but I then noticed it (I believe) requires IQ, and is used with the RFSA blocks.  What's the best way to go about decoding this FSK signal back into binary?  Below is my block diagram.  I've also attached my VI (requires Modulation Toolkit).  Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

  • Program to write signals from PXI 5105 using labview 2011

    Hello
I am new in using labview. I need help in writing program to continuously record the signals form PXI 5105 using LabVIEW 2011.  I prepared a program using help examples. It is recording the signal using pxi 5105 into the file after trigger. I tested the code using waveform generator with -100mV to 400mV, 1 kHz, sine wave. I have also attached the waveform of signal from the excel file recorded by the program. I have following queries
    (i) Is the program correct to continuously record the triggered signals. Have I used the while loop correctly?
(ii) why some part in waveform is missing.
(iii) What should be the value of millisecond multiple ( I used zero)
I want to use above program for strain gauge signal measurement. Where I have to record the data at 20Ms/sec sample rate for 1 milli second after trigger.
    thanks

    Hi,
Sorry but I've only got LabVIEW 2010 so I can't open your file. If you can post a 2010 version I can take a look.
    vinod_p wrote:

If you are talking about the "Wait until Next ms Multiple" function then "Wiring a value of 0 to the milliseconds multiple input forces the current thread to yield control of the CPU." (from the context help for the function - press <ctrl>+h). Is this the behaviour you want?
Normally the ms multiple function is used to synchronise loops as it waits until the next multiple (be it 10ms or 10s) before continuing the loop.

  • Pxi-5105 THD measurement

Can the NI PXI-5105 digitizer be used to perform a THD measurement on ~ 1KHz signal using the LabViews Sound and Vibration toolkit?  Is the Sound and Vibration toolkit required or is it just a nice to have feature that makes life easier?
    Thanks

    Hi Bob,
Have you seen this example? http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/6181
It uses NI-Scope and the Sound and Vibration Toolkit to perform a THD measurement. This sounds like what you are looking for. The Sound and Vibration Toolkit has the required VIs that perform the measurement.

  • Does PXI-5105 support RIS Sampling?

    Hi all,
Does PXI-5105 support RIS Sampling? if no, then how a bandwidth of 60MHz is acheived with a real time sampling rate of 60MHz?
    regards,
    sunil

    Hi Sunil,
The 5105 does not support RIS mode.(Features Supported by SMC-Based Devices)
    Since the 5105 can
sample at 60MS/s, this means our Nyquist rate allows us to acquire signals
0-30Mhz without seeing aliasing. The 60Mhz bandwidth allows for us to acquire
signals in between 30Mhz and 60Mhz without seeing attenuation . These signals
will be aliased, however, we can calculate what rate the acquired signal can be
found by looking at this DevZone document -- EX: 100MS/s rate w/ 70Mhz signal --> is aliased to be seen at ( (100*1) – 70 ) = 30Mhz. If you
have a signal over 60Mhz, it will be both attenuated and aliased. As long as
you don’t have other signals around the frequency which your signal will be
aliased, this may provide a solution using equipment you have, and prevent
forcing you to buy new equipment. Depending on the equipment you have and the
project as a whole, this may or may not be the best solution to the problem.
    Hope this helps!

  • PXI-5105 Re-Arm Time

I have a Lab-View GUI which is fetching data each time a User Interfacea Trigger level is exceed, the datasheet specified a minimum of 2.6us for Re-Arm.

How the Internal Memory on the Card itself works? Is a circular buffer saving data after the Re-Arm happen still if the sotware is processing the data?

    Hi Joel_Cruz,
You can find information about the Onboard Memeory for the PXI-5105 in the NI High-Speed Digitizers Help. This help file installs with the NI-Scope driver.
The specific information on the NI 5105 Onboard Memory can be found under NI High-Speed Digitizers Help>>Devices>>NI 5105>>Onboard Memory.

  • PXI-5105 rms accuracy

What is the accuracy of a rms value on a PXI-5105 ? The only specifications you get is the AC Amplitude Accuracy and the RMS noise.

    Hey bartvsc,
If you look at page 5 on the PXI/PCI-5105 Specifications Document:
    http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/374403g.pdf
You will see that depending on the Vpk-pk and input impedance range you will get a different AC Amplitude Accuracy. You can get the RMS Accuracy value by calculating it from the AC amplitude accuracy.

  • PXI 5105 true bandwidth

    The PXI-5105 specification states:
    60 MHz real-time sampling
    60 MHz bandwidth
Clearly the two specifications are not compatable.  What is the true PXI-5105 bandwidth?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Bob,
Thank you for bringing this issue to the forums. The reason for this statement, "60 MHz Analog Bandwidth," is to tell us that we have good signal intergrity up to 60 MHz, and hence our 3dB point is not at 30 MHz (allowing us to sample at 30 Mhz without significant attenuation). According to the Frequency Response graph below, when we have our Antialiasing Filter, we have a bandwidth of 24MHz and otherwise we can sucessfully sample up to a bandwidth of 30 Mhz. Also, you can see our Full Bandwith of 150MHz.

  • Is it possible to decimate or divide down the internal clock PXI 5105

    Hi,
Is it possible to decimate or divide down the internal clock of a PXI 5105 ?
    Thank you
    Heidar

    Hi everybody,
I come back to you because I have an other problem.
I already have one digitizer PXI 5105 in a PXIe 1073 chassis and I am planning to buy an other PXI 5105.
I will use an external trigger and external clock for my set up but the problem is that there is only 1 input (PFI 1) on each card.
It means I will use the PFI 1 on card 1 for the external clock and PFI 1 on card 2 for external trig (I will use the 16 channels for my application).
We can share signals thanks to Export signal.vi so I tried for the trigger to export to PXI trigger line 0 (I put this vi after Digital trigger.vi ), it seems to work good (I do not have any errors).
But when I try to share the external clock I have an error like "Exporting a decimated sampling clock is not supported by this device."
So my question is : Is it possible to share the external clock via the chassis's backplane to synchronize both cards?
Thank you in advance for your answers
