  • No power in new SC-2345, PWR01 (powered from PXI-6221)

I've used several systems in the past that included an SC-2345 box powered from a PXI card, and until now have not had problems.
I have an SC-2345 (PWR01, rear-connect) connected to a PXI-6221, all brand new, and the SC-2345 does not seem to be getting any power.  The indicator LED's on the front do not light, and if I look at terminal 14 on the screw terminal block, I don't see the +5V I expect.  If I unplug the 68-pin cable at the SC-2345 and look at the pins directly, I do see +5V on pin 14.  All the pins on the cable appear in good condition, and the cable seats firmly when plugged in.
I can run a self-test on PXI-6221 from MAX, and it passes.  I've removed all cartridges from the box and looked for obvious shorts, but the problem persists.  There _may_ have been a short when the box was first connected -- a few leads from the front panelettes were disconnected and unrestrained.  Supposing this caused a short, are there fuses in the box that I can check / replace?
I have spare SC-2345's, but it's a little difficult to get them to this particular site -- are there any suggestions for things to check before just trying a different SC-2345?
    Thank you!
    -Eric

    Hi Eric
Did you set the switch S1 on the SCC-PWR01 to select the source of the +5 V E SER (E/M Series) or EXT (external). If you select EXT, you must connect a +5 V supply (user supplied) to the screw terminals of J1 on the SCC-PWR01. For more information here is the link of the manual

  • About PXI-6220 PXI-6221

We want to use PXI-6220 or PXI-6221 to design a system. And we will use the CVI or Labview, but we cannot find the PROGRAMMING MANUALS of PXI-6220 or PXI-6221.Where can I get them? Thanks!

    Hi wenyan,
You can program both the PXI-6220 and the PXI-6221 using the NI-DAQmx driver. The following tutorial is a very helpful:
Learn 10 Functions in NI-DAQmx and Solve 80% of Data Acquisition Applications
Also, both LabVIEW and CVI come with various data acquisition shipping examples (Help >> Find Examples). I suggest using those as starting points.
If you've installed the DAQmx driver, you should be able to find DAQmx Help from (assuming you're using WindowsXP) Start>>Programs>>National Instruments>>NI-DAQ
More information on the DAQmx functions can be found:
    NI-DAQmx Help (User Manual)
    Hope this helps,

  • How to use the 6221 68 pin board?

I am using the PCI/PXI 6221 to control a motor by varying the voltage using LabView 8.2.   We are having trouble hard wiring the input and output voltages in and out of the board.

    Hi leaf34,
If I understand you correctly, you are having difficulty wiring your motor to your 6221. Are you using a connector block? The SCB-68 is a popular shielded connector block that works with M Series devices. Each pin is connected to a screw terminal for easier wire connection.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!

  • HSC limitations of the PXI-7344

I have an application where I would like to measure position data (encoder and analog value) from a relatively fast moving mechanism - so want to use the highest sampling rate possible while keeping both measurements synced. I am using the PXI-7344 for motion control and the PXI-6221/PXIe-6361 for analog DAQ.
My approach is to use one RTSI line to provide the DAQ sampling clock (possibly divided with a counter for even higher sampling rates with the DAQ card) to the HSC trigger of the PXI-7344. According to the PXI-7344 datasheet, the maximum trigger repetition rate is 1kHz, but the HSC has to be re-enabled in software after every capture. I have a program doing exactly that and it seems to be working fine - but I can't achieve rates on the HSC higher than approx. 150Hz. I assume the bottleneck here is either the host communication (most likely) or the PXI CPU is too slow with re-enabling the HSC (very unlikely - it is a 2.7GHz Quadcore and I am polling the HSC status as fast as possible in a while loop w/o any waits).
My next approach would be to write an onboard program to do the same thing and write the positions into an onboard buffer which I would read after the program is done, but according to the NI-Motion help these programs run inside the RTOS on the onboard µC with a repetition rate of 2ms, which would mean a maximum HSC rate of 500Hz (theoretical).
This is of course better than 150Hz, but now I am wondering how I could use the full capabilities of the trigger input of the card (e.g. achieve a HSC rate of 1kHz). Is this even possible/foreseen with the 7344?

HSC rearming rate is system dependent and affected by many factors. 100 Hz is a rate, that can be achieved on most systems. You might higher rates than that, but that's not guaranteed.
Onboard programming typically doesn't result in much better results, as the onboard CPU runs the user programs in a low priority task, which gets interrupted frequently by high priority tasks like limit switch monitoring and so on.
In general that's the bottleneck, that explains the limitation. On a 7344 HSC needs to get rearmed after every trigger occurrence in the user program and in both cases (host and onboard programming) the rearming needs to be executed by a low priority process on the onboard CPU.
By the way: You are referring to a 2 ms interval. In fact, that's the default value of a time slice assigned to an onboard program. This is not equal with the onboard program's cycle time, which is typically higher - depending on the amount of code and the interrupts caused by higher priority processes.
I hope that explains the behavior. For higher HSC rates up to 2 kHz please use a 7350 board.

  • How to sort out fundamental frequencies from harmonic?

    Hello,
I have a problem, because I have signals with different frequencies and with their harmonic. But I need only fundamental frequencies. I have found a device: Harmonic distorsion analizer that is theoretically able to find all the fundamental frequencies. I am using PXI 6221 but now for simulating I am using waveforms. In this waveform I have 3 music voice together, but this VI is able to found only two of them. I have an E, C, A - like an "A minor " chord.
It founds After FFT analysis all the fundamental frequency is visible on the graph but I can not measure using this VI. These frequencies are 219, 260, 328 Hz, but the first one is missing. On the indicator called Measured frequency all the fundamental and the harmonic frequency can be seen. Displaid datas depend on the number set using max num tones.
I would be really happy if anybody could help me.
Unfortunately this forum not allowes to attach wav files, but I can send it to anybody by e-mail.
    Thanks you

    Hello Sofija and Lynn,
Many thanks for your answer. At first all I have tried to find examples but it didn't help me. I addtached that datas you were interested in.
So I tired to use the harmonic distorsion analyzer to find the fundamental frequencies.
I know that values, because that waveform was made in a church and I plaid it on the organ. So I pushed 3 different key - a c' e' voices, the instrument was tuned up appoximately 438 Hz, so the frequencies of these voices is possible to be calculated using some frequency proportions
    octav = 2 : 1
    quint = 3 : 2
    quart = 4 : 3
    big terc = 5 : 4
    small terc = 6 : 5
so the a' equals 438 Hz -> the e' equals: 438*4:3=328,5 Hz -> the measured value is 328,7
    c' will be: 328,7*4:5= 262,98 Hz -> the measured one is 260,9
and finally the "a" will be one octav lower than the reference 438 Hz one-> so 438:2=219 -> measured one: 219,4
So in this way I know the fundamental frequencies, and on the spectrum they are visible as well, but unfortunately this device was able to found only two of them and I don't know where I did the mistake.

  • How to acquire serial data on a digital input line with good performance?

    Hello,
we have a performance problem with our realtime controller. Our objective is, to read a 24-bit long digital waveform from a digital input line. To do this, we supply a clock signal (236 KHz)  to the PFI1 Line of our DAQ Board. On each rising edge of the clock, a new bit is set on the digital input DI0.
Our hardware which transmits the data, is triggered through a digital output from our realtime controller. On each edge on this output, the hardware starts a serial transmission of 24-Bits.
Everything works fine except the bad performance of our realtime controller. We want to acquire the 24-Bits in a 1ms timed loop. To measure performance we wrote a test program. In that, we only triggered the hardware and transfered the data to the realtime controller. The task which is doing this job, has a approx. CPU-Load of 30%, which is, in my humble opinion, very high. The task is not waiting for data or anything else! We have earlier implemented a control which is also using a 1ms timed loop. This control is sampling 2 analog input signals, 2 counters. Futhermore it's sending telegrams with CAN and doing many calculations. The strange thing is, this much huger program has a CPU-Load of 25%. Does anybody know where the problem is?
For the better understandig I attached our test-program to this text.
    We're using:
    PXI-8175 realtime controler
    PXI-6221 Multifunction DAQ
    Thanks!
    Regards,
       Crest!

    Hello,
First of all 30% CPU-Load is normal because the DAQmx-driver needs a lot of resources.
In your programm you should place a wait (for example with 1ms) into the while-loop which causes
    lower CPU-Load.
If this is not enough you should build your vi like in the following example.

  • Instrument readings in Veristand with a remote system

I am new to National Instruments hardware and Veristand and I'm trying to use an instrument with Veristand to see if I can get readings from that instrument. I am using a PC with Windows Vista and I'm connected through a network to a PXI 8108 controller in a PXI 1050 chasiss. The instrument is just a thermocouple which I am using to get familiar with everything. The thermocouple is connected to the SCB-68 connector block which is connected to a PXI 6221 multifunction DAQ in the chassis. I am able to create a task in MAX under remote system and everything seems to work. What I want to do is to get the readings into Veristand, and I'm not sure if I need to create a custom device that is linked to the DAQ somehow or if there's some other way to do this. I've created the DAQ device in the system explorer but I don't see any way of linking it to the actual DAQ device on the remote system. I'm wondering if someone can help with this.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can read your thermocouple channel value directly from VeriStand, but the process is different than using MAX.
In System Explorer, add your DAQ device that is cabled to your SCB-68. Make sure you specify the same name (i.e. "Dev1") that is in MAX. Also make sure you've imported the device channel that is hooked up to the thermocouple (i.e. "ai0"). There's no way in System Explorer to specify that this channel should have thermocouple scaling. VeriStand will initially sample this channel value as a raw voltage value. You can, however, set the high and low limit for this channel to something small like +/- 1V, since thermocouples have very small readings.
You add the scale to your system separately after deploying the System Definition you created to the RT Target. You do this by connecting to the target using the Workspace and selecting the Workspace tool from the Tools menu called the Channel Scaling and Calibration Manager.
In this dialog you will see your DAQ channel listed. Navigate through this dialog to assign an appropriate thermocouple scale to your channel. Once this is done, the target will remember the scale for this channel until you overwrite it.
Let me know how this goes...

  • NiScope Initialize.viThe specific niScopeDAQ or niScopeDMF dll could not be loaded.

I am getting this error when I try to use both IVI-SCOPE and NI-SCOPE in TestStand.  I make sure to close each reference before I use the next, but it seems like whichever one is called first will not release its reference unless I reboot the PC.  I wrote a LabVIEW VI that initializes the scope using IVI, then closes it and opens it wth NI-SCOPE and this seems to work fine  However, when I try to execute a sequence in TestStand that should effectively do the same thing, I get the following error when calling niscope Initialize.
Details: "niScope Initialize.viThe specific niScopeDAQ or niScopeDMF dll could not be loaded."
Error Code: "-1074118608; User-defined error code."
I need to use both because the IVI drivers do not support phase measurements.  If anyone has any suggestions to fixing this, I would really appreciate it!  I'm using LabVIEW 2013 and TestStand 2013 and my scope is an NI PXI-5112.
    Thanks

    Hi K_Joy,
Thanks for the reply.  The TestStand sequence uses the built-in IVI steps to interface with the scope via IVI drivers.  The NI-SCOPE version uses TestStand Action steps with LabVIEW modules that call VI's located in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2013\instr.lib\niScope.  I uninstalled NI-SCOPE version 4.1 and reinstalled version 4.0.5, which seems to have resolved the problem. However, now when I launch the NI-SCOPE Soft Front Panel I get this error: "The Soft Front Panel could not launch because an error occured while trying to open an application reference."  I can live without the Soft Front Panel for now, but on top of that I am now getting this error when using my DAQ module (a PXI-6221 M Series DAQ) : "Driver cannot complete the route, because the only way to make the route requires a trigger bus line, and no trigger bus has been configured in MAX for this device."  I'm currently attempting a repair installation of NI-DAQmx MAX Configuration Support 9.7.5.  Right now, I'm more or less just reinstalling differenct things because I don't know what else to do, so any insight you can offer into any of these problems would be greatly appreciated!  I've included both the TestStand sequence and the LabVIEW VI that I used to test the IVI vs NI-SCOPE problem, in case you're interested.
    Thanks

  • Getting a -1074118656 error in LV 2009

First off, I've done some searching and found this KnowledgeBase page, I have also seen a few other forum posts on this error which the KnowledgeBase page seems to have worked for most of them. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be doing the trick for me, so I'm looking for a little more in depth help.
I am repuposing a PXI system for a new application, it contains three PXI-2503s, a PXI-4060, three PXI-2565s and I added in a PXI-6221. The controller was originally Windows 2k and after fighting with that for longer than I'd like, I was able to upgrade it to XP. I was initially developing the software on a separate machine and was having some driver incompatibility issues between the systems, but that seems to have gone away now except for this -1074118656 error code when I try to initialize the PXI-4060. I've upgraded all the drivers to the latest versions, I hope. I have NI-DMM 3.0.6 installed at any rate.
Since it is sitting in slot 5 of the PXI system its device number is 5. I've confirmed that it works with the soft panel in MAX, and it displays a 'device 5' while operating just fine. However when I try to initialize the vi in LV2009 with 'DAQ::5' or "DAQ::5::INSTR" I get the error code. To experiment I also created an IVI driver session referencing that same "DAQ::5" using the NI-DAQ to no avail. What am I missing?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hann,
I now realize that my previous suggestion was based on an incorrect assumption.  I apologize for the misleading information.
The readme file for NI-DMM 3.0.6 states that it only supports LabVIEW versions 2009 SP1 and later.  NI-DMM 3.0.1 supports LabVIEW 2009.  Are you running LabVIEW 2009 or LabVIEW 2009 SP1?  This may be the reason you were getting the error.

  • Erreur -200245 s'est produite à DAQmx Write

    Bonjour,

    >> Why do I receive Error -200245 with my X Series Card?
Nous n'utilisons pas d'horloge externe donc j'aurais tendance à croire que l'erreur vient de cette remarque : Signal generation: The reference clock signal should be active before calling starting any DAQmx task that will attempt to use the reference clock.  Ensure that your reference clock source is generating the clock prior to DAQmx Start Task being called.

    Hello,
I'm going to post in english, if you need it in french, please let me know. You can control the DC motor, you can do it by:
    -       PMW with external source
    -       Wiring the analog output with a power stage and external source

  • PXI4461 triggering problem

    Dear all,
I have a problem to generate analog voltage signal from PXI 4461 under analog trigger mode.
Basically, the triggering signal is generated by PXI 6221. The triggering signal is connected to the terminal AI0 in PXI 4461.
The triggering mode is set at Start Analog Edge. When I run the vi, I received the error message as shown in the following graph.
The idea of this vi is very straightforward. I am wondering anyone could help me figure out what is going wrong there?
    Thank you very much
    Kevin

    Hi, Jonathan,
Thank you very much for your reply. However, based on the PXI 4461 supporting material, it looks like this device actually support the analog triggering.
    Clue 1: http://sine.ni.com/ds/app/doc/p/id/ds-337/lang/en
    Triggering
NI 446x devices offer both analog and digital triggering for signal acquisition. The source of the trigger can come from any analog input channel, the external digital trigger input, the PXI trigger bus (PXI devices), or the RTSI bus (PCI devices). The external digital trigger is 5 VTTL/CMOS-compatible and is activated by a choice of rising or falling edge. Triggering is needed in applications that acquire transient signals. When performing structural analysis by striking a metal beam with a hammer, for instance, you measure transient vibrations with accelerometers with acquisition triggered by the hammer impact.
Clue 2: PXI 446X specification pdf
Actually this is where confuses me. Because if the device do support analog triggering, I should not receive the error message.
    Thank you
    Kevin
