[Q]:  OracleVM VLAN Support with same subnets

Can I create OracleVM Network VLAN pool that would allow for two vlans to use the same network topology or segment. Meaning, does the VLAN know how to tag the vlan I created to know which vlan the traffic came from and route back to the proper vlan. For example, VLAN1 - 192.168.1.0 and have any machines assigned to this vlan to only communicate with other machines on VLAN1. And have VLAN2 on the same network defined private segment with 192.168.1.0 network. BUT, is OVM aware of the tagging of VLAN1 and to route information back to the proper VLAN?
TIA

VLAN tagging is independant - and of course must be, since it belongs to layer 2 of the OSI model, of the IP network that is run on it. You musn't confuse the network switches PVID (aka untagged VLAN support) which tagg an incoming packet on a switch port to a specific VLAN.
If you configure VLANs in OVM your're absolutely free to use whatever ip network you want on it - the traffic will stay seperated, since your're running it on a - although virtual - separate LAN.

  • Can 2 vlans have the same subnet?

I hope the combined genius of the fellow community can answer me this. I am new to Cisco, and I understand VLANs as a physical boundary separating broadcast domains.
I was wondering if it is possible to divide 1 subnet (192.168.1.0) into two separate VLANS? I have all layer 3 switches in my environment. Making matters worse, there would be no pattern for the IP address assignments into VLAN-A vs. VLAN-B..
If this is possible, can you please explain the mechanisms for a successful implementation.

It mostly depends if/how you want hosts on them to talk one another (or other networks).
If the answer is "not at all" then you can have as many VLANs as you like using the same subnet.
If the answer is "completely" then you have to either a. break your addressing (L3) down to have one set of hosts in subnet A (on vlan a) and the others in subnet b (on VLAN b). or b. have some fancy tricks in place with network address translation (NAT) in place.
I'll leave the latter solution off as beyond the scope of your question.
For the former, you would just change your subnet mask - for example, if the classful subnet is a "standard" /24 (255.255.255.0) then split it in two - /25 or 255.255.255.128. Assign hosts in one or the other.
You have to have some pattern - all networking is based on patterns in some way or another.

  • Windows 2012 routing and remote access service with same subnet

I have internal server IP range -192.168.1.0/24
Windows routing and remote access service  with vpn client IP -192.168.11../22
client side IP subnet is -192.168.1.0/24
So we wan routing \ NATING between  192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.11.0/22 so if vpn user try to ping 192.168.11.5 it should internally forward all request to 192.168.1.5

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that VPN client and internal network has the same IP range -192.168.1.0/24. And you want to transfer internal network from IP address 192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.11.0/22.
Agree with Charles David’s point of view. The easiest way to fix routing confusion would be to either change the VPN subnet or the VPN client subnet.
Or, if you configure Windows Server(RRAS) as VPN server, you may enable NAT to transfer internal IP address:
    1. Open RRAS, add NAT.
    2. New interface to NAT and configure it as public interface.
    3. Open Address Pool tab, add IP address range 192.168.11.0/22.
    4. Click Reservations, add reserved IP(192.168.11.0/22) and corresponding internal IP(192.168.1.0/24) one by one.
This would be a lot of workload. Besides, you may use 3rd party devices to transfer subnet IP addresses.

  • MS SQL Server 2008 Metro Cluster with same subnet

    Hi All,
I want to setup SQL 2008 Active / Passive Cluster for OCS 2007 between two Data centers, Both DCs are same location which building 1(DC1) and building 2(DC2).
I am planning to use Hyper-V cluster between two DCs and then create SQL 2008 VMs then  create another windows 2008 with SQL clusters.
For the above solution, I need to use ISCSI based EMC VNX-e storages on both DCs and do the replication.
Is there any other better solution to perform? Please help me to provide more infromation.

    Hi,
Additional, we recommend that your clustered servers be member servers. If they are, you need an additional server that acts as the domain controller in the domain that contains
    your failover cluster.

  • Multiple VLAN's with same IP

    Hi everybody,
i'm sitting in front of a PIX 515E with PIX OS 7.2. I want to seperate my internal lan with 2 vlan's but also don't want to create an additional subnet. Is this possible?

Have you tried to configure your firewall in transparent mode? This might help you....

  • AP groups with same vlans , same ssid but different subnet.

    Hi Members,
I have a Cisco Flex 7500 in my datacenter and I need to connect 100 sites , each site with 2-3 APs , each side has its own network and is independent of other sites , the site only need to comunity locally and do not need to access any centralized applications.
I am trying to achieve this by Creating 100  different AP groups and assiging 2-3 AP in each groups for each branch, I will achieve WAN failover resiliency by creating flexconnect groug , the issue I am facing are as below .
1.Since all the sites has same setup , the AP and clients on all sites are in vlan 2 , so when I try to create 2 or more AP group with same vlan, it restricts me of doing so , I cannot create diffrent AP groups mapped to same Vlan .
2.If I keep the APs and Clients in the same subnet , I dont think it should be a problem , but I need your second opinion.
to give you an even better picture , look at the topology enclosed , and my question is if both STAFF and STUDENT APs are in same vlan but in 2 different broadcast domain , how would I create the AP groups.
    Thank you

Thanks for the reply Jenn , here is my situation.
I have 2 sites lets day , site A in virginia ,  site B in Maryland.
    SiteA - 10.1.1.0/24 - vlan 2
               10.1.2.0/24 - vlan 3
10.1.3.0/30 - WAN to central site where controller sits.
    SiteB - 10.2.1.0/24 - vlan 2
               10.2.2.0/24 - vlan 3
10.2.3.0/30 - WAN to central site where controller sits.
both the sites will have a single ssid "XYZ" and will switch locally only.
howin my understanding the way I will deploy this is as below
1.I will create WLAN with ssid "XYZ".
2.I will create 2 AP groups lets say "Site-A" and "Site-B"
3.I will map the APs in site A to AP group "Site-A" and APs in Site B to "Site-B"
4.I will create 2 dynamic interfaces one for each AP group , now this is where I am facing problem , when I am creating dynamin interfaces , I need to specify the subnet and vlans when creating dynamic interfaces , since the vlans used is same on both sites , its not letting me create 2 interfaces with same vlan id.
in my understanding HREAP is only majorly used for WAN failover and local authentication so I am not concerned about that right not , my prime work is to udnerstand the AP group and working.
if you still need print shot let me know I will have to go at site.
also validate if my thinking is right on the 4 steps I have mentioned above , I am new to wireless and whatever I have learned I have learned in last 10 days .
    Appreciate your help.
    Thank you

  • Trunking between separate buildings with same vlan numbering scheme

    Hello
I have (2) warehouses physically next to each other.
Each warehouse has it's own WAN link
My Vlan design is the same across all my sites where each site has (Vlan 10 - 15) using a site specific subnet ip scheme.
I am now going to run a fiber link between my (2) warehouses and can create a trunk between the sites.
I am pretty sure of the answer but I think I am going to have to re-vlan one of the warehouses so I can add each sites vlans to the trunk.
That seems like a mid-major overhaul to one of the sites
Does anyone have any experience with this type of design and provide some guidance on steps to follow?

Many thanks, Jon. You are correct, I had not mentioned my intent to move servers around, originally.
What is not working, is that I cannot ping Houston from Atlanta and viceversa. For example, If I am logged into the ATL switch, I try to ping the HOU switch, but get no reply. In this example, Let's say that ATL switch is 10.11.1.2.. If I try to ping 10.11.2.2 (HOU) nothing. 10.11.1.x traffic should be tagged as vlan 10 in ATL, and 10.11.2.x should be NOW tagged as vlan 112 in HOU.

  • Is dynamic VLAN assignment supported with web-authentication?

The 7.6.130.0 WLC configuration guides says this:
"Dynamic VLAN assignment is not supported for web authentication from a controller with Access Control Server (ACS)"
How should we interpret this, exactly? Does this mean that dynamic VLAN assignment is supported with web authentication from a controller if some other RADIUS server is used (Eg: FreeRadius, ISE)?

It is not supported with any kind of radius server. The radius attributes ACS uses for pushing those settings (64,65,81) are the same for every other radius implementation. Pushing a QoS profile does work.

Q.1 Will they communicate If yes what will be packet/frame flow.
Q.2 If not where will be the packet/frame drop. ? Why.
I need step by step if possible plz how the packet moves , vlan taggings n all internal works that happens behind .. plz
    thnx in advnce ....

    Hi Abhishesk,
The PCs should communicate each othet.
Since there is no trunk port involved, there is not tagging involved.
Since both the PCs are into the same subnet. PC1 will not need default gateway for the communication with PC2. So PC1 will start with sending ARP request for PC2 MAC address.
Since all the ports in SW1 are in same VLAN, the ARP should reach all ports including the switchport where SW2 is connected to.
Sw2 has got a complete different access port on ALL the switchports. Sw2 will receive the ARP from Sw1. Remember that there is no tagging for the frame. Hence Sw2 will again send the ARP packet to all the ports which belong to same VLAN wherein the packet is received. ie, Sw2 will send the ARP packet to all the ports in Sw2. PC2 will also get the the ARP.
The ARP reply will make it way back using the same logic.
Now both the PCs can start the actual packet exchange.

  • Two WLC same subnet VLAN flapping

    Hi folks,
We have two WLC-4404 in same subnet & both connected to a switch, same wlan ssid are configured & same interfaces with same vlans on both.

  • Bonjour same subnet with flexconnect

In my opinion Bonjour gateway is not needed for example if ATV and the clients are on the same subnet. Doing abit of research though for a client leads me  to wondering if the same setup is supported on Flexconnect AP running 7.6.130. I know support for mDNS with Flexconnect Will be supported from 8.1
mDNS seems essential for Bonjour to work anybody got more info?

    Hi Pierre,
Have you open and forward port 443 towards the gateway server?
Please make sure tcp port 3389 is blocked at your firewall so that the RD Client does not have the ability to connect directly to your Remote Desktop Session Host, thus bypassing the RD Gateway.  Also make sure that tcp port 443 is allowed and forwarded
to the private ip address of your RD Gateway server.

Please go through below thread and article for more information.

  • On-premises & Azure VMs with my virtual Network both can have same Subnet?

    Dear All,
May i know Azure support on below scenario.
On-Premises & Azure VMs with my virtual Network both can have same Subnet?
    Examples:
On-premises VMs and Azure VMs using same network subnet(192.168.191.0/24).
*On-Premises VMs = The VMs host at my own Data Center.
    Thanks.

    Greetings!
You cannot configure 2 networks with the same subnet and join them. While connecting via VPN, the packet may not even hit the Gateway of a network to get routed to the other. Also, the destination IP may or may not be present on a computer within the
same network. If it is present, the destination might turn to be undesirable, and if not, the packet might be broadcasted and dropped when nobody acknowledges it in the same subnet.
    Hope it clarifies.
    Thank you,
    Arvind

  • Multiple Scopes for the same subnet with Cisco CNR

I have a requeriment from my internal client that he wants to have  multiple scopes within the same /21  subnet , but he wants to have different scopes for each group of servers ( in the /21 subnet).
We have 2 Cisco CNR ( I dont know the version they are running because they are managed by an external vendor) but they are in active / standby mode.
My question is .. it is posible to make the CNR have different scopes (ranges of IP's) for the same subnet ( /21) and assign those based on the client ( I dont know what criteria can be followed .. maybe Mac Address ???).
I appreciate any help or pointing to the right documentation
    Thank you in advanced

I don't know that you would want a separate PO print. You can print the same PO print twice to provide a copy for the freight vendor. I think it should be okay as long as it is clear that the PO is with the vendor for the products but there is a condition specifying the freight deal. The second vendor (say the freight vendor) should be okay with this PO as well. I don't remember how the standard SAP PO forms handled the vendor condition but it should be enough I would think. I never came across a separate PO for freight since it is usually an value added service that is an integrated part of shipping goods and the paper-work usually is leveraged from PO, bill-of-lading, etc. SAP will make it difficult if you do need a separate PO since there is no way to use account assignment to material and therefore would need to manually account code and invoice verification, post to a clearing account in FI for re-class to material or charge to internal order with settlement to material or something like this.
I would just make sure that the PO print makes sense in terms of being able to see the freight charge and maybe the vendor name or something (look at the standard SAP PO form to see what the best practice is).

  • CSS Load balancing on same subnet/vlan

    Hi
I have connections coming in to a VIP which is load balanced with a CSS between web servers. However I need the web servers to talk to a VIP on the same subnet and then load balance that to servers in the same subnet as my web servers. We are using the CSS's in bridging mode. Is this possible?

Yes, it is possible. You can define one VIP to load balance traffic on your web servers and another VIP (on the same subnet) to allow load balancing between web servers and back-end servers. If the web servers use a different TCP port to communicate with the back-end servers as for the web access, you can even use the same VIP address and two content rules.
Something is however very important to make this working : you have to NAT the source address for the backend servers connections to make sure the return traffic pass through the CSS and not directly to the web server (they are on the same subnet).

  • How do u get help from apple support with iChat? I was able to chat with support last week to solve my problem but now the same issue is back and I don't see the option to chat now?

qHow do u get help from apple support with iChat? I was able to chat with support last week to solve my problem but now the same issue is back and I don't see the option to chat now?

For what it is worth I have noticed a similar issue from the iPad3 while at work and home. At work we have two Apple TV 3rd Generation installed and tied to our A/V system. I believe the issue has to do with a timeout on the broadcast saying "here I am" and allowing devices to connect.
    For example:
At work we have several Wi-Fi SSID being broadcast from Cisco APs. The only one we can use with the Apple TV is the one that uses a WEP since the others are either setup to be hidden, require web page authentication, or have a login requirement from employees. Essentially, what I believe the issue is that the Apple TV periodically broadcasts a message to other iOS devices that support Mirroring. When the Apple TV does not get a response from a device it goes into a dormant mode and requires either a command from the remote control or a reboot. This has been tested with both the power management enabled and not enabled with the same results.
As for when I come home, the Apple TV3 has not seen the device in some time and therefore is not broadcasting it's location information. A simple click of the circle or menu keys on the remote will give it the command to start broadcasting again and allow the iPad3 to see the Apple TV. When trying to Home Share the computer can not play (iTunes 11, Win8RTM) until the Apple TV is awoken then it will show up for mirroing.
This may or may not assist you but, it hopefully explains how the issue may be happening.
