Q. regarding yum install - no package available
Configuring OL 5.6 under VMworkstation on my laptop.
Created vm and am going through pre-reqs for installing Oracle rdbms 11.2. As standard practice I configured to go to oracle's public yum server and installed 'oracle-validated'. Then I double-checked the required packages listed in the Installation Guide. Two of them still weren't installed, so I tried to go for them individually with 'yum install <pkg name>. The first, numactl-devel, installed fine. However ...
[root@lnxsrv01 tmp]# yum install compat-libstdc++
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with ULN.
ULN support will be disabled.
Setting up Install Process
No package compat-libstdc++ available.
Nothing to doyet when I go to http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL5/6/base/i386/, I see 'compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61.i386.rpm' listed just fine.
my config - /etc/yum.repos.d/public-yum-el5-6.repo has enabled:
[ol5_u6_base]
name=Oracle Linux $releasever - U6 - $basearch - base
baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL5/6/base/$basearch/
gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-el5
gpgcheck=1
enabled=1So what am I missing that it insists this package is not available?

Hi Ed,
You should use yum list (not repolist - my bad). Here it is:
[root@oelgrid ~]# yum list | grep compat-libstdc

compat-libstdc++-296.i386 2.96-138 installed

Gokhan AtilInteresting. I got exactly the same results. So in the end, it looks like perhaps the required package is installed ... though the installation guide specified
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3 (32 bit)
So ....
[root@lnxsrv01 tmp]# rpm -q compat-libstdc++

In TestStand 1.0.2 there is way of customizing a TestStand installation and I believe that this will also work for a distribution. Take a look at
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/e684845ac856014c862567f3006c7e26?OpenDocument

I do not believe that this option is available in TestStand 2.x though.

Yum install tigervnc-server*
Hi All,
I am trying to install VNC viewer in Oracle Linux 6.4 hosted on Virtual box on a windows 7 home basic system.
I tried searching for the solution to overcome this error but not getting any proper step or work around to get this done.
I have two virtual machines running in the virtual box. I have my network configuration as below on both the virtual machines.
Adapter 1: bridged adapter
Adapter 2: Internal network
I am able to ping rac1 and rac2 successfully from both the VMs. But when I do ping google.com or ping yahoo.com its unable to resolve.
[root@rac1 /]# yum install tigervnc-server*
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit, security
Setting up Install Process
No package tigervnc-server* available.
Error: Nothing to do
Please provide your valuable suggestions
Thanks in Advance.Hi,
I am not able to connect to the internet from my virtual machines. Thats what i have pasted above ping google.com or yahoo.com did not work.
I also followed a hint with the question saying:
Has all the network related settings has been configured properly.
If you have done so, then you must be able to connect.
Ensure Gateway and DNS details are provided correctly.

11g Release 2 install missing packages
Hi,
I'm trying to install 11g Release 2 on a CentOS (4.9) box, but the pre-req check shows that I'm missing the following packages (I had 9 to begin):
gcc-3.4.6 (X86_64)
gcc-c++-3.4.6(X86_64)
libstdc++-devel-3.4.6
Tried to use the yum command "yum install gcc" but get the following error.
Error: cannot find a valid baseurl for repo:update
I think this is due to the "CentOS-Base.repo" file, which I've tried to update by changing the mirror URL's but no success.
Then tried to find the rpms online (http://rpm.pbone.net/) managed to find the majority of them but I can't seem to find the 3 listed above. The new versions such as gcc-3.4.6-8.x86_64.rpm don't work, so I need the exact match.
During the pre req I tried to select the "Ignore all" option and continue with the install but the installation fails with the following in /oraInventory/logs
INFO: Start output from spawned process:

Any help would me MUCH appreciated !Hi,
why are you using CentOS?
Why not simply use Oracle Linux. It is very similar to CentOS, it is free and totally supported with Oracle database.
ISOs can be downloaded at edelivery.oracle.com/linux
And update server is public-yum.oracle.com
This way you don't have to fight against problems, where only few people can help...

kamal.RHEL and Oracle Linux are binary compatible. You could setup the public yum repository, following the instructions at http://public-yum.oracle.com. Don't forget to enable your base release in the repo file. Then type "yum install oracle-validated" to install Oracle 11g pre-requisite packages and have it modify kernel parameters. Btw, you can download Oracle Linux for free from http://edelivery.oracle.com/linux.

Problem while installing Setup package
Hi all,
A week before i installed setup package on one device it worked perfectly fine.
Today i created new setup package with parameter sets( MI_CONFIG and included parameter MobileEngine.Sync.Gateway.Service=/sap/bc/MJC/mi_host
MI.Sync.ProtocolVersion=251500
And did not added these two lines in Mobileengine.config file.
My device is looping between two screen Ie Logon screen and change password screen. Whenever i enter the username and password it enters into Change password screen and then again to logon screen.
What can be the problem?
Thanks and Regards
Neha KapoorHi Neha
This is because after after you have created a setup package, a configuration tells the user to change his password on this first login to the client. If you open the MobileEngine.config file you will find an entry called <i><b>MobileEngine.Security.PasswordChangeRequired</b></i> with a value true. Just set the value to false and restart MI. If the parameter is not present, add the same and restart. This should solve your problem and the change password page will never appear again.

Installing repository packages offline
I am working on a Solaris 10 system not connected to Internet. Is there any means to download packages along with their dependencies to some other system connected to Internet and then install downloaded packages offline?
Alan explained that Solaris 10 doesn't use a pkg repository but you can create a pkg server
to serve pkgs or a JumpStart server to install systems.
I never download images because we have internal pkg servers so I don't do these steps,
but they should give you some ideas, The biggest factor is the system that is connected to
the Internet. Does it have a DVD burner? Is it a UNIX system? I hope so.
1. Download the sol-10-u10-ga2-sparc-dvd.iso image and either burn it to a DVD or save
it as a file.
2. You can make the DVD contents available over NFS or you can lofi mount the ISO file
and make it available over NFS.
3. When the pkg location is available over NFS, then you can point the pkg add command
to that path, like this:
# pkgadd -d /net/cyberman/export/s10u10/combined.s10s_u10wos/17b/Solaris_10/Product SUNWman

Is there a standard package available for JAVA for MM in Enterprise Portal
Hi
I would like to know if there is a standard package available for JAVA in MM for Enterprise Portal as we want to create purchase requests in the portal and send them to SAP .Standman--
If you want a somewhat more powerful tool (albeit more complicated) check out TOra:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tora/
As an Oracle DBA I've used this at client's sites when I can't pay for PL/SQL Developer to be installed, and it has quite a few useful things built into it. I think that it's going to see a boom in popularity now that Oracle came out with XE.

Not able to see make in /usr/local/bin even after installing the package
Hi,
I have installed the package make-3.8 for solaris 9 on my machine with sun os 5.9. But still I can not see 'make' in /usr/local/bin .
Does anyone have an idea why?
I installed the same as root using the command:
pkdadd -d <packagename>
But it gives me quite many warnings like :
WARNING : /usr/local/bin/make <not present on Read only file system>
WARNING : /usr/local/bin/doc/make/ABOUT-NLS <not present on Read only file system>
At the end it says Installation of SMCmake was successful
Still I can't see make in /usr/local/bin.
Regards
ManmeetSeems like /usr/local is mounted read-only? Run
mount | grep local
or
touch /usr/local/test
and see if you can write files in the directory.
