Q10 questions

Hi, I'm looking to replace my aging Nokia E72.
I find the Q10 interesting. I have some questions about it
1) can it be used as a modem via USB ?
2) can it be used as a modem via Bluetooth ?
3) if it has a modem, which FCLASS (fax class) does it support ?

Thanks for your reply, I actually prefer usb over bluetooth or wifi because it uses less power from both the phone and the laptop.
Do you have a Q10 ? If yes, may I ask you to connect to it with a terminal and run the command 'AT+FCLASS=?'

    1, the AutoCC was a service of your former BIS account, and there is no BIS account now. Instead, if you're using an IMAP email server, you should find the function to autoCC your emails there.
    On an IMAP email account, your sent emails should sync to your server anyway. Why do you need the AutoCC?

  • Questions on upgrading Q10 version?

    Two questions:
    1)   Is there any way to install a leaked Version 10.2.1on the Q10 without having to re-initialize/restore?
    2)   Is it true that installing a version upgarde using a AT&T release avoids having to re-initialize/restore?

    2)  If ATT sends you the update it will appear right on the device as an OTA update and no restore is necessary.  The process above does basically the same thing.

  • Q10 Keyboard Shortcut Question/Suggestion

    I've entered several keyboard shortcuts.  One of them is a person's name that I text regularly.  The keyboard shortcut works in the body of a text, but not in the address field.  Keyboard shortcuts should work in these fields also.  I repeatedly text this person and don't want to start typing their name everytime.  I want the three letter shortcut to automatically pull up the name.  

    The available keyboard shortcuts are also listed here in this forum, but that's not the user's question..

  • Q10 Browser Word Wrap Question

    When in mobile browser, how do I get to word wrap.  If zoom out the words are too small, if zoom in have to scroll horizontally to read full sentences. Very annoying.  Thanks

    The word wrap feature  is currently not available for the BlackBerry Q10 Browser, one option is to use the reader mode feature, see here:

  • How can I assign points to the alternatives in a question?

    Hi! I am building my first quiz in Captivate and I have this little problem I haven´t been able to solve. I want a make a test that meassures how stress you are att work. It looks like a survey, I´ll have about 20 or more questions with the same type of alternatives, no right or wrong alternatives, but you choose the one you agree the most with. The thing is that i want to give a value point to each alternative and be able to have a score at the end. See the example.
    How often do you feel stressed att work?
    1. never : 0 points
    2. one a week: 2 points
    3. three times a week: 3 points
    4. Everyday: 4 points
    Att the end, the score you get tells you how stressed you are, but instead of showing a result in term of points, you´ll get a text giving you feedback and recomendations for better health. Can I do that in Captivate? I haven´t been able to find a way to do that yet...

    Tried putting something together that could be possible, concentrated on the workflow. There will be some repetitive tasks to be done however, problem is that a click box cannot stay for a whole project, which means that a click box gets its proper ID on each slide. Will try to explain, it is up to you to judge if this is acceptable, or if you'd go better with a Flash app.
    Created (for the moment, perhaps you'll need more if p.e. for Q1-Q10 you need a separate result for A and for B, result for Q11-Q20...) two user variables:
    v_AClick     to store the number of clicks on A-option
    v_BClick     to store the number of clicks on B-option
    The results can then be used later on for a condition (did not write it yet).
    Created a first slide with these objects:
    dummy Text Caption 'Option A' (will be replaced later on with question text)
    click box covering up this Text Caption, named it (ID) ClickA1 (this is the tedious part, has to be done for each CB; ClickA2, ClickA3...)
    dummy Text Caption 'Option B' (will be replaced later on with question text)
    click box covering up this Text Caption, named it (ID) ClickB1 (this is the tedious part, has to be done for each CB; ClickB2, ClickB3...)
    imported a 'sign' to be showed after the user clicked into the Library, and put an instance to the right of each Text Caption, those were labeled VinkA and VinkB. Very important: set those instances to 'Show for the entire project', which avoids to have them duplicated to each slide, we will hide and show them as necessary.
    button 'Next' which on Succes jumps to next slide.
    The blue Text Caption was for me, to check if the actions were functioning, shouldn't be there in the end file.
    I created a first Advanced action, labeled it HideVink (sorry for the Dutch, Vink = the green symbol), to be triggered on entering the slide:
    Hide VinkA
    Hide VinkB
    Second/third action, labeled A_Action1/B_Action1 to be triggered by clicking on the ClickA1/ClickB2 with these actions:
    increment v_AClick/v_BClick with 1
    hide the other clickbox, thus ClickB1/ClickA1 to avoid that the user could click on both options
    show AVink/BVink
    Here is an example, action A_Action1
    Those two actions have to be duplicated for each Question slide (A_Action2, B_Action2,....). What has to be changed in the duplicates is only the number of the Click Box, that is why I labeled them to make the process easier.
    Now I duplicated the slide as many times as necessary. The actions for button and entering slide are OK, but the actions for the click boxes have to be adapted (tedious).
    Why did I use 'dummy' Text Captions: I should export (File menu) the Text Captions to a Word-document, change the dummy texts (left column) to the real captions (much easier in one doc) and re-import them into the CP-file.
    That was my homework, as promised. Hope it helps, even if you choose to go the Flash-way after all.

  • Issues with 10.3.1.1779 on Q10

    I just got this patch a few weeks back because my carrier is extremely slow I guess. I noticed mostly negative differences after this update, which usually isn't the case.
    The UI itself is a lot clunkier and slower to navigate I find, and especially noticable when switching songs on the Music screen. Also there is a persistent issue with the Hub wherein I'm not able to interact with the Hub items until I navigate away from and then back to the Hub. It happens mostly when waking up the phone by swiping from the bottom, and the top screen is the Hub, although it does happen sometimes when I'm already using the phone and simply navigate to the Hub.
    Not sure if these are specific to my phone or if other people are experiencing this on the Q10 as well. In case anyone wants to know the model is SQN100-5.

  • Issues with Exchange Account and Q10

    Well, I hate to be writing this, but I'm hoping that there might be someone out there that can help get past some first day issues I am experiencing.
    The background: I have a long history with legacy BlackBerry devices, and almost as much history with iOS devices. My most recent phone was an iPhone 4S, and I make extensive use of iCloud to keep my iMacs, iPhone, and iPad connected in real-time. The setup worked. It wasn't perfect, but it worked. However, because I used to have a BlackBerry device (most recent the 9930) and because I don't use the iPhone for more than e-mail, iMessage, and phone calls (generally speaking), I decided to give the newest BlackBerry device a shot. So I bought a Q10.
    At this point I feel compelled to say that the hardware is everything I had hoped it to be. It's solid, has a good weight, and appears to be made very well. I have no complaints with the hardware, including the keyboard (a big selling factor for me), so I won't really get into the hardware as the issues I am experiencing all have to do with the OS. Let me also say that I am very familiar with the iCloud integration issues (missing Contact photos and disabled Calendar sync), so I'm not voicing a complaint over those issues in this thread.
    I have connected my Exchange account. I used to have everything in Exchange before I moved my entire computing world over to Apple, and now I keep Exchange around for e-mail. Therefore, I have no contacts, no tasks, no notes, very limited calendar entries, and a massive amount of e-mail on the Exchange server. However, to test everything out, I have added a single contact record so I can see it show up on the phone and be able to test two-way sync between the Q10 and Exchange. And here is where the first issues crop up. It looks like Exchange connects and then disconnects at random. For example, if I open my Contacts on the phone, I see the one contact (called John Doe). Then, as the phone is sitting there with the screen on, the contact will disappear and I will see a "Start adding contact to your contact list" notice on the screen. Then, after a short period of time, the single contact will return. It is important to note that the entire time this is happening, the All Contacts option is selected in the list so that all available contacts are shown. Additionally, I have SIM card contacts turned off, but if I alter the selection in the view list (All Contacts, Favorites, etc.), the SIM contacts will re-appear when I return to the All Contacts view. At the same time, even though I have turned off SIM Contacts in the settings, the setting has reverted to show SIM Contacts. If I turn off the setting again, SIM Contacts still show up. Possibly related: I can't delete contacts on the SIM card, no matter how many times I try, and it now it seems that I can't get SIM Contacts to go away in the Contacts app.
    Likewise, Exchange seems to connect and disconnect from Calendar. I go to the calendar and move day by day to June 15th. I see an entry that I know is from Exchange (I have no other connected calendars at this time), and it is in blue. I change the calendar color to green and the entry changes color, as expected. However, if I jump back to today and then scroll day by day to get to June 15th again, the calendar entry is missing. After a few seconds, the entry re-appears, but it is, once again, in blue. The setting has reverted itself, and it seems like Exchange is completely disconnecting and automatically reconnecting to the phone like I am setting it up again for the first time. Very odd. As I'm typing this, I just saw something odd. I swiped to wake up the phone, and the active frames screen was the visible screen. The calendar app is still running (since I left it running, minimized, when the phone went to sleep) and the date shown in the active card was Jan 1, not Jun 8. Why? The date (and time) on the phone is correct and is set automatically by the cellular system.
    Nevertheless, looking at BlackBerry Hub, I see only two e-mails in my Inbox from Exchange, even though I have roughly a dozen in my Inbox. The rest are filed in sub-folders. And bam! Just like that... I get the "Add Accounts" screen while looking at the Hub. In other words, as I was typing this, I first saw two Exchange e-mails and then, out of nowhere, the e-mails disappear and I see the "Add Accounts" screen as if no account has been connected.
    So... first question: Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This is very strange, and very frustrating. Second: could this be related to the large amount of e-mails I have stored on Exchange, some of which have large attachments? I selected "Forever" as the sync history length. I have my concerns, however, if this is related to loading historical e-mails onto the phone (in other words, the first sync with Exchange) because there is no reason that I can understand that the phone would blank out as if no account was connected at all. I can understand lag and stuttering while the history is syncing, but not a complete disconnect and reconnect. Considering all of the issues with the one and only contact record disappearing, the calendar entry for Jun 15th disappearing and then reappearing with the wrong calendar color, and e-mail in my Inbox incomplete (two of a dozen e-mails) and ultimately disappearing, I feel like this OS just has some real, significant issues.
    Full disclosure: I do want iCloud to work and am a fan of Apple products, but the lack of full iCloud sync support is not a big enough issue for me to want to send back this phone and/or see it fail so miserably. I will happily move my info from iCloud into Exchange, Google, and/or set up a new Exchange account for personal use (Office 365) because I am not wedded to iCloud per se. But, I won't go through that trouble if I can't even get my first account to work properly. It should also be noted that I do have a basic Google account (non-paid) and I had previously attempted to connect to it. However, I was experiencing the exact same issues with contacts disappearing, e-mail disappearing, etc. So I deleted that account. Truth be told, I deleted the Exchange account as well, and then re-connected to Exchange only to test one account at a time. Unfortunately, even with Exchange only, I am seeing very strange and frustrating behavior as described above.
    Help... please. I want this to work but the frustration I am feeling is growing worse by the hour.

    To follow-up with this issue:
    I ended up performing a security wipe on my device. The security wipe finished, and I was about to reconnect with Exchange when I decided to visit our host's web site to see if they had any articles covering the issues I was experiencing. While they didn't have anything specific, I did find a step-by-step guide to connecting a BB10 device to Exchange... and right there at the end, it said "Do NOT enable memo sync."
    I contacted support, and the rep told me that OS 10 has an issue with memo sync and it can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Now, whether or not this is accurate I can say this: So far, the device is not disconnecting and reconnecting like it was before. Problem is, is this a result of not enabling memo sync, or is this a result of the security wipe?
    I may have overlooked it, but I don't recall reading anything about that anywhere else. I'm tempted to try re-enabling the memo sync to see if everything blows up again. At least that way I can see for myself if the memo sync is a real issue. Of course, perhaps it's an issue with SherWeb (our host) specifically. Hm...
    Anyway, for those that were interested, and for those that may come along in the future with a similar situation, the strange behavior that I first reported is no longer happening. I just don't know if it was a result of a security wipe or a result of not enabling memo sync with Exchange.

  • Is there any RIM rep. in here? Did they notice what's happening? I can't move data from Z10 to Q10

    I know this is a common issue, I see many members from forums, here, crackberry, and many others experiencing problems with BlackBerry Link.
    1. I can't switch device from Z10 to Q10, 1st it says my Q10 has old software, I have updated to the latest, now it says please make sure my device is connected and retry, I press retry and always failed to detect (for restore data from Z10 backup to Q10) other than that, it can detect my Q10.
    2. To restore data from backup you have to sign in to BlackBerry ID first and it makes your BBM contact transferred without the others, contact, SMS, calendar, notes, alarms, settings, etc. I'm thinking of moving back to Z10 and afterwards all my open chats in Z10 just disappear, I still have importants chat containing appointments, addresses, price negotiation, hotel reservations, argh this is frustrating because every time I wanted to restore to new device it will ask to sign in again, and how is it going to decide which is my valid PIN on the other side of my BBM's contact if I keep switching device like this back and forth..
    Why can't it be like the old days of OS 4, 5, 6, 7 and 7.1?
    Where we can make full or partial backups and restore it to any device and any OS?
    Didn't you make a proper test and research before releasing OS10 and BlackBerry Link on the market? (This question goes to RIM's rep. where ever you are)

    This is my last bad experience with BlackBerry prior to OS10
    Laughable poor camera on 9900 I can't take photos of receipts and documents, and I have to charge 3 times a day (this is supposed to be a "mobile" phones? I always ended up with dead battery when I'm mobile, and I have to stuck on charger for hours waiting to charge)
    And now this .... Come on RIM do something please we really like your device...
    Devices I like the most are 9700 and 9780, except for desktop manager that is not backing up auto text. Great camera, great battery life.
    Btw I have use the latest release of Link but still can't restore data.

    Because BB10 was not an evolution from BBOS...it is completely new, and sadly they did not take all of the prior design considerations and use them when they created BB10 and it's associated toolsets.

    That functionality, while requested by many, has not been implemented. There is no way for anyone here to know if/when it will ever be so.

  • Blackberry Link for Q10 with Outlook Sync has very poor performanc​e and not good Functional​ity

    I am wondering if anyone has tested this software. Blackberry Sync software for my previous phones were wonderful. I can sync my contacts and calender in a very short time. With this new Blackberry Link it takes about 1 1/2 hours Plus to complete. And when it does complete - it duplicates entries which I did not want.
    Plus what is missing is the following:
        1. I am not able to say Update both Device and Outlook any longer. This functionality is gone.
    My question: How does it do a two way sync if I only have a choice to use what I have on my phone or on outlook only
    I want to be able to update my Outlook contacts with changes and addition I made on my Q10 phone and update my device with changes I made to Outlook.
    Why did Blackberry remove this very flexible choice? Plus Blackberry Link has very poor performance.
    I work for a large company and I do Enterpirse Software testing daily. Performance is the number one complaint for customers on top of the UI and functionality.

    A thing I noticed when I opened Descktop Software for the first time since the new Z30 is that the old application thinks it is looking for a Z30.  I havent even opened the application since before I got the new device.  The only way it could think I have a Z30 is if it is using a lot of the same files as Blackberry Link.   That is some pretty terrible software development practices in my opinion.  I'm going to take your suggestion and uninstall both apps, run a registry cleaner and reinstall BB Link and I bet it works a lot better afterwards.

    Still all of the same errors with regard to syncing outlook contacts and Schedules.  I will post all of the error messages I recieve here as I see them.  Application is always started by connecting device with USB cable.
    "Sync was unseccessful
    Caught _com_error exception. Description(): Error in MAPILogonEx: MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED; Error(): -2147467259 (0x80004005); ErrorMessage(): Unspecified error; Source(): XCPCRdmptn.RdRDOSession"
    REBOOT
    Change to sync contacts only, 1-way sync to computer, always use device data
    "Sync was unsuccessful
    CPreferencesManager: Configuration Value for /Preferences/Account_1_65537/DevicePin not set in TransConfig.xml for translator RimBB"
    REBOOT
    Application went through the whole process and hung for about 15 minutes and then completed successfuly syncing contacts only.
    Change to callendar only.  Sync completed successfuly.  No hang or errors. very quick.
    A new recurring appointment on the device was not transferred to the computer.  
    Sync callendar again, completed successfuly.
    Appointment is still not transferred to computer.
    So far I've spent an hour tonight trying to sync my contacts and appointment changes from just one day.  I'm not thrilled.

  • BB Q10. Conclusions of the first week experience

    I have moved from OS7 device to BB Q10 a week ago and here are my first brief conclusions (mostly for those who are yet considering of the purchase)
    good stuff:
    - the device looks good itself and it is completely not slippery;
    - I do like the new screen;
    - the OS 10 interface is interesting to me;
    - the camera is good;
    - BB voice messaging is supported over your carrier's network;
    - the browser works very fast (even though I use that rarely);
    - the battery is enough for one busy day;
    - there is a good Skype installed (however see also the notes below);
    terrible stuff:
    - BIS is no longer supported (well, someone might reckon this as an advantage; I say that there must always be a choice - either I use BIS or don't use it with my new device);
    - my gmail & yahoo imap free accounts hang up regularly on wifi when I come from network carrier to a place where I am connected to wifi (the wifi is always on and I have enough places saved in my device memory); when I enter my account settings it says i.e.. "The server imap.gmail.com for account XXX is not responding. The server name in your account settings might be incorrect, or the server might be temporarily offline. Check your settings to make sure the server name is correct and try again." I either restart device or switch off and on wifi so that it would resume for a while. With my carrier's network the email works fine.
    - there is no Russian text input by translit (see http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Q10/Russian-language-input-translit/m-p/2442771#M3...); I had to engrave my keyboard with Russian letters for the first time for the last 6 years, luckily I was in Russia for a while; all those who use Russian language with their BB device for now can't normally use that as long as they are outside of Russia (where you could engrave it for a modest fee).
    stuff to be improved:
    - it is not that easy to copy saved numbers from your contacts (you shall open editing and then copy it out of there);
    - it is not possible to paste the saved numbers in Skype (you shall thus develop your memory );
    - the birthday details from the contact list are not linked to a calendar (the question is then what is that data stored for?) - I have already skipped one birthday because of that;
    - there is no percentage of remaining batter on the top screen (you can only find that through settings);
    - whatsup is not integrated into the BB hub;
    - there is no Viber application for OS 10;
    - the choice of sounds to set up is extremely poor;
    - the OS 10 with its applications hang couple of times a day (either buttons on the screen are not responding or the power button does not dim the screen or smth similar take place);
    - when I read a message in hub it remains unread and it becomes marked as read only upon reviewing in particular mail folder.
    My overall conclusion is that the device with the new OS 10 is completely raw and flawed. I feel myself like a volunteer tester whereas I do not like such a role when paying a full price for a product that is considered as good and is widely distributed on a market. Such a new marketing approach of Blackberry would do no good for their success in a future. 
    I would seriously advice NOT TO TRUST even respectful brand and read open source info prior to a purchase

    Yeah the BB9900 worked excellent!  I still have faith in BB but my faith is wandering after all this waiting.
    I'm sure BLACKBERRY is monitoring all this and reporting it to management whereby they're aware and putting the mandate to their software development team to remedy all these glitches before bad news travels too extensively.
    I was amazed that the T-Mobile Rep's from 2 different nearby stores were telling me the same message (they didn't recommend BB10 due to customer complaints and software issues.  This along is enough to sink BB having all these rep's discouraging customers from buying BB phones. Where are the BB Dealer Rep's when you need them?
    I told the rep's that regardless of the current BB10 issues, that all the other BB phones and software work flawlessly, and that the network was stable, dependable and secure.  One rep told me they just don't have any feed back or much interaction with BB dealer reps.  If I was a BB Dealer Rep. I'd be in each T-Mobile store twice a week giving them updates, testimonials and giving my phone number out to customers who come in and have additional questions, which the store rep's cant answer.  That's what these BB Rep's should be doing...being advocates for BB.
    I don't think the BB Dealer Rep's are doing much, if any thing other than collecting a pay check.  These issues I  imagine will be resolved within 30-45 days.  If not, I'm sure they'll lose more than just stock prices falling. 
    As a Crackberry addict my fingers are crossed for Blackberry and that it recovers from all this whereby it becomes the powerhouse it once was for so many years.

    No one here, in this user-to-user community, has any access to the answer to your question. Indeed, even BB does not know...for it is the responsibility of each carrier to approve the OS released by BB and then subsequently release it to their users. So, the proper place to pose your question is indeed to your carrier, as it is they who control it for you.

  • BB Link with Q10 no longer working on Windows 8

    Mobile carrier:  Bell Mobility
    Model info and OS version:  Q10, 10.1.0.238
    Blackberry Link version: 1.1.0.37
    Free space: 9.7 Gb
    Battery pull: Battery pull did not resolve issue
    Factory reset:  I would like to explore all of my other options before blindly doing a factory reset
    Steps to reproduce: Just connect Q10 via USB to Windows 8 laptop. Launch Blackberry Link.
    Expected Results: Expected to be able to communicate with BB Q10 and to performance backups, but can no longer able do so.
    Actual Results: Cannot login to BB ID via BB Link or perform any types of synching or backup operations.
    Description:
    I was able to communicate with my BB Q10 on Windows 8 briefly.  Now, Q10 no longer communicating with Blackberry Link desktop software on Windows 8. Also, when clicking on the settings gear icon, I'm getting the message in Blackberry Link "Unable to sign in to your Blackberry ID. Confirm you are connected to the Internet and try again."   I am able to sign in to BB ID online without issue. Blackberry Link also takes a very long time to load (several minutes).

  • Help BB Q10 - syncing with windows 7 contacts

    I've just bought a BB Q10 (for me) AND a BB Z10 (for she who must e obeyed) Both are set up to sync via BB link (1.1.1.41) with windows 7 contacts on our respective laptops. The Z10 sync's without any problem BUT the Q10 will not sync and comes up with the error code of 2511 'error converting Unicode string to or from code page string'. A web search says this is a known fault and that a fix is on its way BUT this was dated March 2013. Does anyone know of a fix OR when the BB fix will be available?

    For my Z30...
    I received the error code 5211 when attempting my first sync with BBLink and my Z30.  My data file included about 1400 contacts so I took a stab at parsing the task.  Rather than trying to synch the entire contact list I broke the task down to blocks of 117 and completed the task over multiple syncs.  I also suspected a mapping error so in conjunction with the "sync-in-nibbles" technique I also remapped some questionable fields that I thought may be confusing the process.  I don't know if both or just one of these was the remedy but I did get the sync completed and subsequent syncs have been trouble free. 
    A caveate to the above....which may or may not apply to your situation.
    BBLink would not recognize Outlook, ie, Outlook was not offered as a sync option via BBlink.  I was offered only Windows Contacts as a sync option and this folder is typically empty.  So, to skirt this problem I exported my Outlook Contacts as CSV to an intermediate folder.  I then imported the CSV file into Windows Contacts which, during the import, converted the CSV file into 1400 individual x.contact records.  I then used BBLink to sync my Z30 with the Windows Contact folder and transferred all contacts to the Z30 without a hitch.  To verify that contacts modified on the Z30 would update in Outlook, I performed another sync with Windows Contacts.  I verified that the changes did xfer and new contacts were added to Win Contacts as expected.  Next, I exported the Windows Contact files to a new Folder as a CSV file.  I then used Outlook to import the CSV file and I verified that the edits made on the Z30 did appear in Outlook.  Sync Complete! Whew!  Its really not that bad to perform once I had a process tuned.  
    I purge the Windows Contact folder before importing each new CSV file.  Actually, I simply move thm to a purgatory folder until I am sure I no longer need them then I purge. 
    Windows Contacts is available with Vista and Win 7.
    For all you folks who have Win 7 or Vista and can't sync with Outlook, try the above process using Windows Contacts.  Hope it eases the pain.
