QoS group policy in UCCE 9.0 getting refreshed

Hello,
We upgraded a couple clients onto our HCS environment. Since we have had a couple outages where the A side loses connection with the B side. Normally this is related to some network interruption and it appears that way in the logs. However when I look in the system event viewer on the call server I see the following:
Log Name:      System
Source:        Tcpip
Date:          2/10/2014 6:39:07 PM
Event ID:      16501
Task Category: None
Level:         Information
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      USPHXXXXX
Description:
Computer QoS policies successfully refreshed. Policy changes detected.
AND
The Advanced QoS Setting for inbound TCP throughput level successfully refreshed.  Setting value is not specified by any QoS policy. Local computer default will be applied.
I can match these up before every outage. As you guys know after 8.5 Cisco switched from packet scheduler based qos to the group policy. So I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this in 9.0. The first time I thought maybe it was coeincedence but since have seen it on other outages on completely seperate instances. The thing I wonder is if this is just an affect of an outage but I see this before is loses connection to the call server's duplexed partner. So believe it may actually be the cause.

Yes eventually we did after bringing up the firmware, adapter driver, bios. Here is a chart I made for different C-series. Disregard column 2.

  • Wallpaper fixed for the entire domain with group policy but some systems are getting the updated wallpaper

    Hi ,
I fixed the wallpaper for the entire domain and It was applied to entire domain.
After some day, I have changed the domain wallpaper. Then some systems are showing New wallpaper and some systems are showing old wallpaper.
I have applied the gpudate /force command for those system who didn't get wallpaper.
    Could you please suggest.

    Hi Srikanth,
First, please make sure that the GPO is applied to client properly.
To check that, please follow the steps below:
    gpupdate /force
    gpresult /h C:\report.html
Note: This procedure needs the privilege of the Administrator.
If the GPO is applied properly, please try to reboot the client.
If issue persists after reboot, please check if the following link is helpful:

  • Strange DNS, Group Policy & Active Directory Issues - Can't track down root issue!

For the last few weeks, we've been getting complaints, from our developers, about not being able to authenticate on various systems.  The issues were hit & miss but still problematic enough to warrant our looking into it.  It seems to be getting
worse...  I now have new servers that aren't getting group policy updates.  They may get some, like the list of local admins but won't pick up NTFS permissions for folder-access.  Those that pick up the AD group full of local admins have trouble
authenticating members of the group.  Some were showing event log entries regarding authentication issues due to being unable to contact an AD DC.  We reloaded that DC but many of the issues still persist.  At this point, I'm running
out of places to look for ideas.  I've spent the last week looking up Event Log IDs and looking though their meanings and possible remedies but, again, the issues persist.  It doesn't seem to matter what the OS is.  We've been seeing
    this on 2008, 2008-R2 & 2012-R2.
Here are some examples of events I'm seeing.  I can't figure out the root cause(s).

the default is 20000000 bytes.  The current maximum size is 20000000 bytes.  To set a different maximum size, create the above registry value and set the desired maximum size in bytes."

  • Cases in which Domain Group Policy settings would be reverted to default settings on a Win7 client

Hi - I'm sure this info is out there somewhere, but I'm having a hard time finding it.  Basically, I'm trying to identify the cases in which settings deployed via Domain Group Policy on 2008R2/Win7SP1 would get reverted back to "default settings"
on a Win7SP1 client that is still a member of the domain, and is in a proper OU, properly targeted, WMI filters should still evaluate true, etc...
For instance, it appears that if machine-level registry settings contained within a LocalGPO file on a client get corrupted (C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine\registry.pol), all of those settings, plus all machine level administrative template settings
defined in Domain Group Policy, get reverted to default settings (corresponds with Event ID 1096 in System Event Log where it references "LocalGPO").  I have not confirmed if this is the case for machine level settings defined outside of administrative
templates in Domain Group Policy, or for any user level settings though.  (But I suspect not.)
When a workstation is unable to talk to a Domain Controller in order to identify applicable Domain Group Policy settings (for instance, this issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2421599/en-us), do administrative templates Domain Group Policy settings revert to defaults up until the next successful processing interval?  I don't believe
    so, but would like confirmation.
Are there any other cases in which Domain Group Policy settings for a client still joined to the Domain would be reverted to defaults?
And when a client is unjoined from the Domain, what Domain Group Policy settings would remain on the client?  I understand that some Domain Group Policy settings outside of administrative templates are "tattooed" to the registry.  Does
anyone know of a full list of these settings?  I believe that most or all of the ones in Windows Settings\Security Settings are tattooed, and the only way to get these settings removed is to explicitly change them via registry edit or LocalGPO/Local Security
    Policy, after unjoining the domain.
Any info/insight/links to other doc/etc would be much appreciated!

    Hi Shaun,
    >>If a client cannot talk to a domain controller at all, admin template settings still stay in-place on the client, correct?
As far as I know, it's not this case. If a client can't communicate with domain controllers, it means that the GPOs applied to the client are out of scope. As suggested by
the article I provided, for native policy, "when a Group Policy object (GPO) goes out of scope, the policy setting is removed allowing the original configuration value to be used."
    >>What if a client looses network connectivity while reading Domain GPO?
Group policy will be get updated when computers start up and users log on. Besides, for workstations, group policy will get refreshed at background with by default an interval
of 90 minutes. As long as workstations can restore network connectivity, the group policy settings will get updated.
    >>Are there any other failure cases like this where some or all Group Policy settings (admin template or other areas) would get reverted?
There are many reasons which can cause GP malfunction. However, Windows itself provides necessary tools for troubleshooting various issues. When GP malfunctions, we can check
Event Viewer, collect group policy result, or generate group policy log to troubleshoot.

  • "Group Policy Registry" (CSE) is failing with EventID 7016

    Hi,
I'm stuck at troubleshooting the group policy processing on a W2k8 R2 Terminal Server. On this machine the CSE Group Policy Registry Component is failing with ErrorCode 11. (I'm sorry but the editor does not allow me to insert xml yet)
I was not able to find any source in technet or msdn regarding Group Policy Registry ErrorCode 11 nor able to get any further debugging operable, that gives me more hands-on-details on this problem. Furthermore I was not able to determine the GPO causing
the CSE failing, neither with RSOP nor Eventlogs.... With the group policy modeling wizard i just get "GP Registry failed" listed in Component State Overview with the subtle message "An attempt was made to load a file with an incorrect format."
How can i get to the bottom of this?

    Hi,
As far as I know, Event ID 7016 can be caused by the fact that there is issue with the gpprefcl.dll build installed on the client machines.
To fix the issue, we can try applying the following hotfix to update the build of gpprefcl.dll.
Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2 may stop responding at the Welcome screen after you enter the user credentials to log on to the computer
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2526870/en-us
In addition, the following hotfix can also be worth taking a look.
Some Group Policy preferences are not applied successfully on computers that are running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979731/en-us
    Hope it helps.

  • I get a Group Policy Disk Quota failure at every system start

This is very long, my apologies
I asked this question about a month ago and then had some medical problems so I'm starting over again.
Whenever I start my system I get a message on the screen that the system is trying to run Group Policy for Disk Quotas.  To my knowledge I've never set a disk quota policy and I can't find any indication that one is currently set.  I freely admit
that I could be responsible for this.  I might have done something in the early days of the system because it wasn't happening for the first month or two.
This time I did more reading and found a procedure on TechNet at:
"http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749336(WS.10).aspx" which led me step by step through the procedure, although I still can't make sense of the results.
So far I've verified that there are no policies set and that all the hard drives (3) have the Disk Quota bit 'disabled'.  I did this as 'Administrator'.
The results from the TechNet procedure turned out to be quite long but I'm listing it here in hope that someone in the community will be familiar with this problem and be able to use the information to figure out the problem.
    Here are the results:
    From: TechNet Group Policy Testing

Did you ever have luck tracking this down?  Im getting this error and have no clue where it is coming from.  I have not enabled gp disk quotas, but I do have a network share on a domain member server that has quotas attached to each users folder.
I removed the quotas and still get this error when I manually perform a gpupdate.

  • Can't get Aero theme forced (via Group Policy)

Well I'm at a loss.  I have a bunch of users.  They're all crazy, and I think I'm getting there too.  It all started with this three-armed monkey that got loose in the lab....
Ok seriously.  I'm having no luck getting the Aero theme forced to any user.  2008 R2 and Win 7 Pro and Enterprise systems.  Any user can easily manually set their own Aero theme and it saves after they log off, but for a user that hasn't
done this I cannot get GPO's to get the job done.
I've been all over the web, some people say use the option to "Load a specific theme" which most people agree only affects a user's login for the first time.  After they've logged in once, that setting never applies to them again.
And the other one is that if I want to force the theme each time someone logs on, to set the msstyles file under "force a specific visual style file or force Windows Classic".  I don't have a company-specific file to share over a network folder
so I just use the default %windir%\resources\Themes\Aero\aero.msstyles path.
Both of these GPO entries are found under User config > Policies > Admin Templates > Control Panel > Personalization.
Some forum posts say not to enable these two items together, others say you need to.  For me it doesn't work in any combination - plenty of machine reboots in between to ensure updated GP's get applied.  .
Also the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager service is running and set to automatic, and I've tested on more than one system so I am confident the computers are not the problem (some are brand new installs).
Event logs show no errors at all, and also do show successful applies of "4 group policy objects".  I suppose I should count how many are supposed to apply to a computer but let's say for argument's sake that there are no errors on this.
    Is there something I'm missing?

I've been all over the web, some people say use the option to "Load a specific theme" which most people agree only affects a user's login for the first time.  After they've logged in once, that setting never applies to them again.

so I just use the default %windir%\resources\Themes\Aero\aero.msstyles path.
For the "Load a specific theme" policy, you can find the description of the policy in group policy editor, it is only applied when a new user logs in for the first time and it doesn't prevent user from changing the theme
I made a test in my environment, if I applied "force a specific visual style file or force Windows Classic". it works as I want (I use some default visual style file because I don't have customized file ), after that, I can change the
theme, and the aero.msstyles I set via GP remain take effects.

  • Group Policy Shortcut Fails to Get Created

I get the following error in the Event Log.
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:        Group Policy Shortcuts
    Date:          2/28/2014 4:55:55 PM
    Event ID:      4098
    Task Category: (2)

I was trying to put "C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\SelfServicePlugin\SelfService.exe" into the startup folder for members of a specific group. That file exists, it's there, I've put the short cut to it manually into Startup and it works. This
makes no rational sense at all. The file is most certainly there, why doesn't it see the file?
All other shortcuts from GPP work fine.  Here are the properties below:

Remove this item when it is no longer applied
    Yes

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, this event is most likely related to permissions. We need to make sure that users can access the shortcut file.
Besides, which startup folder do we use?
As stated in the following thread by Darien, Windows has two Startup folders:
    Windows has two Startup folders.
    One located in
c:\users\xxxx\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs\startup.  This one is owned and controlled by the interactive user; therefore, he or she can write to this folder.
The other one is located at
c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs\startup.  This folder is a system folder in which interactive users must provided elevated credentials.

  • How can I get Firefox 12 to honor "Do not preserve zone information in file attachments" in Windows 7 x64 Group Policy?

Every time I download a file, any file, .jpeg, .png, .exe, anything, Firefox ignores the group policy setting and I have to "unblock" every single download.
This also applies to pictures I right-click on and "save image as," not just download with the download manager.

I fixed it. I remember the same issue happening in Firefox 3 and comment #3 at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499448 gives a workaround. I had to have all 3 values set the way comment #3 explained to get Firefox to not save zone.identifier information.
Maybe open a new bug report?

  • After restarting i get a message saying that Windows could not connect to the Group policy client service

The message i get is the following:
Windows could not connect to the Group policy client service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system As and administrative user you can review the system event log for details why the service didn't respond.
This happens after restarting my laptop. It takes longer than usual and once it has booted up and loaded Windows Vista, I get the message on the right bottom corner as a window popping up.
I can still use my computer but a lot of my user account settings are not there.
I fixed it temporarily by rebooting using the option: boot up using my last successful configuration. Bu once I restart again the same thing happens.
    How can i fix it?
    Thanks.

  • Windows Server 2012 Group Policy Block USB Storage devices @ User Level Not getting applied on a Domain Client machine with Windows Server 2008 R2. Why?

    Hello,
    I have a Windows Server 2012 R2.
I have configured the Group Policy on it to block the usage of USB - Storage Devices @ user level on the client machines. It works properly for my Windows 7 client machines but it's not working on one of the machine having Windows Server 2008 R2 installed
on it (this machine is also a domain client in the same domain).
I will really be thankful if anyone can suggest some solution to this issue.
Please feel free to write back in-case I have missed anything obvious to be shared.

  • Group Policy not getting read on new laptops

I have a batch of new Dell Latitude E5500 laptops.. Using Zen 7 on

The agent read enough of the assigned policy to create a DLU but does

  • To get some errors about group policy due to disabled an account

    Hello
I have an active directory on windows 2012 datacenter. there is a domain on it. it works well.
Also there is a another AD on another location.  there is another  domain on it. also it works too.
there is a trust relationship between 2 domains.
I disabled an account on first AD server 4 days ago. and then my colleague who manages second AD, notified that started to recieve some errors from eventviewer and have an issue about their group policy.
    the issue event as below;
The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not authenticate to the Active Directory service on a domain controller
(LDAP Bind function call failed). Look in the details tab for error code and description.
    Event ID 1006
    Event Source Group Policy
I think the concerning account was built on the second AD for a service. But we don't know how we can find the account on the second AD server in order to change it.
How can I fix the issue?
    Thanks

    Hi Yavuz,
    >>But we don't know how we can find the account on the second AD server in order to change it.
What account did we disable? We can check the error code (displayed as a decimal) and error description fields of Event ID 1006 to see if more information can be found.
Regarding Event ID 1006, the following article can be referred to for more information.

  • Printers working, but getting group policy error (error 513)

Ok great, I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi all,I've got a print server role running on a Server 2012 VM. It was working great until a few days ago until one of the printers went offline. I restarted the print spooler (no effect), then restarted the server (brought the printer back online). Since then, I've been receiving these errors for all three printers we have on this server:Error ID: 513Source: Microsoft-Windows-PrintServiceMessage: Group Policy was unable to add per computer connection \\___\\Copier Konica Minolta C360 PCL. This can occur if the name of the printer connection is incorrect, or if the print spooler cannot contact the print server. The printer names did not change, and since the printers are working, it seems that the spooler is working. I also tried updating the drivers through print management (there is a new version of the driver...

  • ME3800 qos-group

    IN_POLICY:
I am trying to work on a qos setup where I want to use ip_acl to classify traffic and qos-group to (internally) mark incoming traffic on a layer-2 (trunk) interface (say INTF_IN).
[ This trunk interface is only carrying 1 vlan. I can see the policy picking up traffic on the basis of the defined ip_acl and the packets and byte counter incrementing. From this I am extracting that it is able to see the IP details coming over the trunk interface. ]
    OUT_POLICY:
I then want to use that qos-group marking and prioritize traffic correspondingly, when the traffic goes out another layer-2 (access) interface (say INTF_OUT).
    Topology:
These two layer-2 interfaces (INTF_IN and INTF_OUT) provide connectivity in between two routers.
    Problem:
Classification on the out-going policy on INTF_OUT does not seem to to be picking up the qos-group classification, made by the incoming policy on INTF_IN.
[Here I am assuming that the internal coloring/marking of qos-group is visible to the outgoing interface. Software config guide seems to confirm this functionality as well and in fact suggests that as a way to get around the limitation where ip_acl cannot be used to classify traffic in the outgoing policy.]
    Note:
    1) As a separate test to confirm if the ME3800 is able to see the IP details on the incoming trunk interface (INTF_IN), I set up random DSCP values and could confirm that the traffic was getting marked. So this makes me be very sure that the ME3800 is actually picking up IP details from the trunk link/interface (INTF_IN).
    2) I also tried to use Input-Interface with vlan but came to know that it is not supported on the incoming policy.

    Hello Sourabh,
the key command for QoS in DMVPN is the
    qos pre-classify
On the headend hub router, the mGRE tunnel interface is configured for qos pre-classify because the service policy is matching on the destination IP address in the original unencrypted IP header. The service policy, however, is applied to the outside interface, and the packets are encrypted when the QoS matching decision is invoked. Configuring qos pre-classify gives the service policy the ability to match on the clear text values.
    interface Tunnel0
    qos pre-classify
    interface FastEthernet0/1.100

This is from page 49 of the document in your link.
Normally, a DiffServ Model is used with some traffic classes based on the DSCP field with some well-known settings like EF for VoIP bearer channels (conversations)
I see that there is also an example based on destination address with ip access-lists. This can be helpful if your address plan allows to identify some services with some type of destinations
This directly maps to the routing table in a static way.
However, the scheduler you can use is elastic resources not used are redistributed between the other traffic classes.
So we can say there is not a strict need to be able to map to the routes in a "dynamic way".
If you look at the QoS command reference we can see that among the many parameters/options of the match commands there are no attribute of dynamic routes.
One could think to match a route tag or other route property but all the commands for setting and for matching a route tag are available only in route-maps and not within class-map objects.
So as far as I know QoS objects are oriented to traffic flows and you have a choice between using in-band markings like DSCP in DiffServ model or you can classify the flows based on the destination address but referencing them directly with ACLs
    Hope to help
    Giuseppe
