Qosmio X300 11S, Black Screen.

I have had this laptop for 2 years, besides quite a few overheating problems it has performed well.
In November last year i noticed my games where once again very laggy, a sign i interpreted as time for a full clean, so i sent it off for a service.
The game i mostly play is World of Warcraft, after i received my laptop back from the service i logged into world of Warcraft and played for an hour or so and got my very first black screen, sound was looping, mouse and keyboard unresponsive. It took me at least 5 minutes to shut it down via the power button.
The black screens/crashes just kept happening i checked i had all the latest drivers installed, so i tried rolling them back but the crashes just kept coming. Where as when they first started i could get a couple of hours between them, it was now minutes at best.
To finally rule out a soft wear problem/corrupt file i decided to reinstall windows, after reinstalling windows updating windows drivers etc i then reinstalled wow however it lasted only a few seconds before the black screen/ crash happened again.
So i wiped the hard drive again, this time i have installed nothing but the windows disks, so my laptop is just like it was the day it came out of the box, and i still cant play any game like solitaire with out this black screen/crash happening.
I have an extended warrantee but they refuse to look at it as its a soft wear issue according to there under righters. Any body have any idea ?

so i sent it off for a service.
What did they do? How did they service it?
They just take it apart check the fans are working correctly and give it a clean, removing the dust from the fans and the heat sink..
Did you actually reinstall clean windows versions by truly formatting the hard drive and reinstalling windows and drivers from scratch?
I have the recovery disks i made myself , I boot it and recover it from them.
If you reinstall windows 7 it will create a 100 mb partition and keep the old system files and others in windows old folder, have a look here it might help.
I have windows vista installed and there is a separate partition.
Prior to contacting my extended warrantee, i tried to rule out a soft wear issue. I even made a call to Toshiba Tech support the person i spoke to did a link up to my laptop, as i had mentioned the vista games also caused this crash he had a game of solitaire. This did as i expected, cause me to receive a black screen/ crash. However the person at the other end told me over the phone that when this happened, on his computer it showed my mem and CPU where both running at 100% just prior to seeing the black screen and being disconnected. So i do believe your guess of something being overloaded is correct i just need to be able to prove it.

  • Qosmio X300-13O - Black screen on startup

Hi, I have a problem with my Qosmio X300-13O.
When I turn on the computer the screen is black, I can hear the windows starting up but I can't see a thing. I've figured that when I remove the battery and plug in the power cable the computer works fine. So my question is: Is it a batterys fault or computer fault?
How can I fix it (working without battery doesn't count)?
I'l add that i still have a warranty (I bought my X300 on may this year).

    Hi buddy,
Have you tried an external monitor on the notebook? Maybe the internal display is faulty and so you can work with an external monitor.
However, for me it sounds like a hardware issue and I think the internal display should be replaced but an authorized service provider (technician) can check this and exchange the hardware.
If your notebook is under warranty, the repair should be for free! :)

  • Qosmio X300-11S - How long for processing order?

    Hello,
I just purchased a Qosmio X300-11S and 3 year warranty.
I got an e-mail saying "Thank you for purchasing from Toshiba, your order has been received and is now being processed." Does this mean my product is being still being looked at or is being sent? WIll I be notified by e-mail again saying the estimated time of delivery or is there another way to find this out?
Thanks for input on this query in advanced.

    Hi,
I guess its in process which means its not already sent and you should get a confirmation when the machine will be shipped. Since the machine is pretty new, I could take some time till the shipment of the notebook but not longer then some weeks. ;)
Dont worry, the machine will arrive. :)
    Greetings

  • Qosmio X300-11S - Cant get 1080p @ 60 Hz to work

I have a Qosmio X300-11S and no matter how much I try I can't get 1080p to work at 60hz.
In fact that timing isn't even available. I can only chose 24p or 30p on my Full-HD displays even though they support 50/60hz.
I have the latest drivers installed for my 9700M GTS so I'm lost. I am almost certain that it has worked before.
    What might be the problem?

    Hey,
    Wait a moment, buddy.
If you connect your X300 to an external monitor via HDMI cable I would recommend connecting the cable first. Then power on the monitor or TV and select the correct input channel. At last power on the notebook and normally it should recognize the HDMI connection automatically.
If not you can use FN+F5 key combination to switch between the monitors.
Furthermore the latest display drivers from Toshiba should work because they are pretested so I would recommend this driver.

  • Qosmio: X505-Q890 Black Screen BUT Computer has not crashed

I have a Qosmio: X505-Q890, my screen goes black after a few minutes.  But if you look at it on an angle you can see screen and mouse moving around.  I am assuming that the backlights are going out on screen.  What is the fix.  I am capabale of dissasembling laptop and repairing.  What parts do I need to fix?
    Thanks
    Greg

It could be either the inverter or the backlight, but it's hard to know for sure. It could also be a loose cable, but that seems less likely to me (although it might be easier to check).

  • Qosmio X305-Q701 - Black Screen and sound loop while gaming

    Hi,
My Qosmio X305-Q701 has recently started crashing while playing any games. Never had a problem out of it until the past month. All games now from WoW and F.E.A.R. to solitare. It will just randomly go to a black screen and the last sound byte while loop over and over requiring a hard reboot.
Graphics card is Nvidia geforce 9700m gts series.
All drivers and directx is up to date running windows vista. I am not very tech savy so any help or expierence with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I have the exacrt same issues, and have had them for some time. I tried all the software solutions, and mechanical solutions that I could perform myself ( cleaning the airflow vents, and cooling fan ) Nothing has worked. Sad thing is, no real solutions are ever given to this, so let me lay it down like this. The video card is a P.O.S. and is at fault. Only way to fix it is to replace it. Preferably with one equivelant, but from a different manufacturer. In all honesty, this is the worst computer I've ever owned. Even sadder is its the most expensive one I've ever bought. I've tried for help through the place I bought it ( Best Buy, which I am having my own difficulties dealing with ) and Toshiba support as well. No one has offered an explanation as to why this model isn't recalled, and or replaced because its a lemon. Good luck in getting it fixed. My own solution is to cut my losses, get a new computer ( which will never be a Toshiba again ) and chalk it up as lesson learned.

  • Qosmio X875-Q7290 Black Screen of Death

    Hey everyone,
My dad purchased a Qosmio back in 2012 for work. It's a powerhouse that can pretty much accomplish any job. Here are the specs, and then I'll get into my problem:
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    System Model: Qosmio X875
    BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 03.72.306.30
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
    Memory: 16384MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M
    Display Memory: 4095 MB
My dad passed shortly after he purchased the laptop so I then took it over and brought it to college with me. There was an incident where my motherboard completely fried and Toshiba fixed it for me. I was extremely greatful and left notes for the staff in my box when it shipped to Toshiba, haha.
It's been over a year since that incident and now I have come across another. I'm a heavy gamer and, until 4 days ago, have had a flawless experience. The black screen of death has only emerged recently and seems to be increasing in frequency.
Usually this happens when I am gaming, however it has also happened when the computer is simply idle. Everything will be running just fine and suddenly the screen will go black, the keyboard becomes unresponsive, and if there was sound it is stuck in a loop. The only way to remedy the situation is to hard shut down the computer and restart it.
Since the first incident I have been diligent in monitoring heat which has never gone over 71c even in my heaviest of game play. I have also uninstalled and re-installed the most current video driver. I have run multiple virus checks, I have cleaned the computer inside and out, defragged the harddrive (Well not really out of the ordinary I do it every wednesday), and have also done general clearing and cleaning of any unnecessary files.
Still, no matter what I do, I am getting this Black Screen of Death. I have followed many guides and suggestions which have done nothing. When I reinstalled my video driver I did, atleast, get about 1.5 hours of gameplay which my heart was then crushed because it happened again.
I am WELL over my warrenty... And can not afford to take my computer to a profession / send it in to Toshiba. I'm moving soon, as I have just finished college, and have yet to find a job.
Any advice or questions are welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

It's hard to know for sure, but it does sound like a hardware failure that would require servicing. RAM would probably be an easy place to start if you were looking to do hardware troubleshooting yourself.
As an aside, if you just copy WoW to an external drive and copy it back, it'll work without needing to go through a lengthy install/download process. You'll need to install the Launcher though of course. In fact, D3 works the same way. You might already know that, but it makes it easy to back them up.

  • Qosmio X870-149 - Black screen after Update to win 8.1

After an update to win 8.1 I got a black screen after login , the only thing I could do was to press zero during startup and make a recovery installation .
It took 40 houres , I do not know why it took so long , but when it was over, the HDD was completely empty , so I installed win 7 instead , since I had not made ??a recovery CD . The problem now is that I still get black screen in between , and thinking that it might be a heat problem , I still have warranty , but I do not know if it applies when I installed win 7 on the machine.
I still have a warranty on my toshiba Qosmio

    Hi
Well, the warranty covers the hardware related problems. It does not cover any issues related to the software.
Now the open question is: why the black screen appears?
Is it hardware or software issue?
What happens if you access the BIOS?
Can you see anything on the screen?
Is something visible on the external monitor?

I had same problems after installation the OS from recovery disks. It wont open after installed graphic card driver.

  • Re: Qosmio X300 - Webcam is not working

    Hi there,
First of all, my apologies if this issue has already been discussed and solved in another thread - I tried searching this forum for "webcam" but didn't get any results.
Right, my laptop model is: Qosmio X300-11S PQX32E-00M00LEN and am currently running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition.
I while go I noticed my webcam wasn't working (yes, it used to work once upon time). When I launch the 'Camera Assistant Software' I get the following message " Webcam is either disabled or has failed. Please check your webcam settings."
I tried downloading the driver and reinstall it and the device manager indicates no errors.
Anyhow, yesterday (for some other reasons) I decided to reformat and do a fresh installation of Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition. I have installed all relevant drivers from Toshiba website this morning and, still webcam not functioning.
    I would appreciate any input.
    Thanks in advance.

Im wondering why you dont try to recover the notebook using the Toshiba HDD recovery or the recovery disks?
I mean, all drivers and everything else is preinstalled on the Toshiba image and setting the notebook back to factory settings, should help to get the webcam working.

  • WINDOWS BLACK SCREEN AFTER VM WARE DEMO PLEASE HELP

I tried installing VM Ware Fusion Demo. I could not use my wireless mouse and keyboard, now I can't even startup with Windows. I get a black screen. Please help!

Go into safemode and uninstall the Nvidia driver you have installed and after restarting the computer and allowing extra time for windows to install a default driver for the graphics, install the Windows 7 driver for your computer found in the Toshiba download page for your laptop.
If you have issues with the screen blacking out after doing that, follow the instructions found here and this will correct that.

  • Qosmio X300 - Black faded screen if I boot up

    Hello
I recently purchase a Toshiba Qosmio X300-13O. I run before a week the system restore and I install all the drivers. As a result the laptop created a problem, every time I try to boot up a black faded screen apears and then the laptop restarts. Also the iluminted hot keys do not work.
Please help me solve this issue.
    Regard, Aris

Thank you for your help. It was quite useful but it didn't give any results. The good news is that i found the wrong install driver, I tried to uninstall it from safe mode and from normal windows but it didn't allow me to do this. An error message appeared saying that the driver didn't install correctly and i don't have any permission to do that. My opinion is to return windows again in factory settings but i don't want to format my HDD because i am a student and i have a lot of work to back up and restore. If you have more advice to give me that it could be very useful. Thank you again for your help.
    Regards Aris

  • Qosmio G30 - black screen on external monitor

Qosmio G30 (PQG32E) running Vista Home Premium, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 driver, 7.15.10.9813
I cannot get a picture on an external monitor (tried two different monitors). Specifically:
'Windows Mobility Center' will recognise that a monitor is connected
'NVIDIA Control Panel - Change Display Configuration' will recognise the external monitor ('Select the displays you would like to use' shows 'Laptop Display + Sony SDM-HS73', which is the plugged-in ext monitor)
but no matter what configuration I try, using Fn+F5 or Change Display Configuration, I cannot get anything but a (backlit) black screen on the external monitor.
The monitor is receiving a video signal correctly: when turned off under a laptop-only Fn+F5 setting, it shows a 'no signal' warning, but when turned on again I just get black.
I have tried changing resolution settings for the external monitor. They exactly match the monitor's native resolution. Still nothing.
Tried 'Clone' mode and 'Dual View' mode.
Tried various different orders of switching the laptop and monitor on, plugging and unplugging, etc.
Have installed latest driver from this Toshiba site (as above). Have NOT tried installing any other driver from the NVIDIA site, since it warns to use Toshiba's - but is that worth a try?
The laptop's own screen and all other aspects of video are fine.
It has worked ok in the past (I think before I did the upgrade to Vista, when it was still on XP).
Do I just wait for another driver update from Toshiba, and perhaps Vista SP1?
I'm really hoping this is not a hardware issue, since the monitor is recognised etc....
    Jonathan

    What port did you use?
The external monitor (analog) port or the D-video out port?
As far as I know if you have used the external monitor (analog) port then you should choose the Analog display in the nVidia -> current display
Then you could use the button FN+F5 to switch between the both displays.

  • Dead pixel on my Qosmio X300 screen

    Hello
I have a problem that happened today.
My laptop was fine yesterday. I took it up in its bag, Went with it to the college and I switched on on and I found a dead pixel - Not just one tiny one. it is a small one, about 3 x 3 square on
1440 x 900 resolution - on the screen. I don't know how it came or what does cause it in first place ?
I tried to press on it gently many times and then, it was moved to another place. I did that again and It was moved again. I try now, but with no avail. I am really annoyed because I am not buying a quality laptop for such defects, although there is a range of maximum 8 pixel defect that should happened so I am eligible to change the screen. The problem it it annoys me. And I can't find a way to fix it. My laptop is just 7 months old. It is a Qosmio X300-158.
    What could I do ?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your reply.
I will try to visit them in the nearest time. Well in my case, if I considered that that is not dust and these are dead pixels, then there are 16 pixels of them. I counted them one by one, which is enough to entitle me to replace that monitor. However, I won't complicate things. There is also another problem that I can't leave my laptop for more than 1 day. All my work, designs and assignment are in it. I hope that can be fixed in less than 1 day.
I think that of it is dust, that shall not take more than 2 hours to fix it, but who knows. I really need to take to them first. !

  • Qosmio X500 - Black screen crash when loading games, requiring reboot

I have a brand new Qosmio X500 (PQX33A-00X00J) with all the original drivers as they came out the box, and 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium OS. The only thing I've done on this laptop is install games. The laptop runs fine for most things, and for a very few games (Unreal Tournament 2007 is the only one so far), but almost all games crash with a black screen the first time they're run. Sometimes I'll see a splash screen the first time, and once or twice I've got to a start screen, but thereafter the screen goes completely black, no sound, and the machine freezes requiring a reboot.
It's extremely frustrating, considering this is a brand new, out of the box gaming laptop, and I haven't changed any drivers or anything. It's running an Nvidia Geforce GTS 250M display card, and the native resolution for the LCD screen is 1920x1080. I suspect it may have something to do with the unusual native screen resolution or the aspect ratio, because I managed to get one game to run (FEAR) by going into the supplied config utility and setting the game's default screen resolution to 1024x768. FEAR has the same crash if set to a higher resolution.
    The games I've tried:
Unreal Tournament 2007 - runs perfectly at all resolutions
Half Life 2 - crashes on launch with black screen, no sound, requiring reboot.
Counter Strike - the 1st time I managed to the setup screen, changed screen resolution, it crashed immediately. Thereafter it crashes straight away on launch, I can't even get to the setup screen. Uninstalled, reinstalled, same thing, crashes on launch with black screen, requiring reboot.
Bioshock - only ever got a "Bioshock" logo, then crashes with black screen, requiring reboot.
Frontlines - Fuel of War - crashes on launch with blank screen, requiring reboot.
Call Of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare - crashes immediately on loading with black screen, requiring reboot.
Crysis - crashes immediately on loading with black screen, requiring a reboot.
Except for UT 2007, almost every game has just crashed the first time it's been run, I usually don't even get a 1st shot at trying to change any settings. I've tried loading the games that provide a safe mode in that (e.g. Modern Warfare), but the same thing happens. I've also tried setting the laptop resolution to 1024x768 before running the games, but no difference. I've also made sure I'm running the latest patched version of the games, and I've checked the Toshiba website, but there are no driver updates so far that I can find for this laptop either.
I'm completely pulling my hair out, and solving this is very time consuming, because every time I try anything I have to reboot before I can try something else. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Someone suggested I try turning off my antivirus, and it turns out that was the problem. It seems Comodo has compatibility problems with games in Windows 64-bit editions since one of their latest releases.
