Query Builder Component added to Raptor?

Have briefly tried out Raptor and have liked what I've seen so far. I'm sure the features will continue to grow over time too.
Our developers use Oracle Query Builder on a daily basis to develop queries as well as ad-hoc reporting. As an E-Business Suite Customer we've been running into issues with the 8192 object limitation in QB. I'm wondering if plans are in the works to add some sort of graphical Query Builder functionality to Raptor and to remove the 8192 object limitation.

I would recommend that you look at the Paradox for Windows query by example as a way of implementing this feature in Raptor. While the interface may appear to be old (less sexy) compared to some of the newer graphical methods of performing this activity (i.e. MS Access or HTMLDB); I find that it is an efficient tool for minimizing the amount of text that I have to write for SQL. Once I've developed the bulk of my query graphically, I then use the SQL converter and customize from there. The QBE metaphor I find much easier to manage then all of the drag and drop found in some of the interfaces today.
Another recommendation that I have is that you look at using the newer join syntax than the old (e.g. left outer join).

  • Unable to load Query Builder component

    Hello,
When I try to refresh a report in Crystal Reports 10, it displays this error message:
    "Failed to load database information."
"Details: Unable to load Query Builder component."
Then, when I try to register querybuilder.dll, RegSvr32 gives this error:
"querybuilder.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found."
    Any ideas?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Graham,
    Thank you for your reply.
    This is a new install.
As my PC's administrator, I tried as you suggested.  However, I am still getting this error message when I try to run an existing report:
    "Failed to load database information."
"Details: Unable to load Query Builder component."

  • Restrict access to Query Builder component in SQL Workshop

    Hello folks,
Can someone tell me if it is possible for an end-user to have access to the Query Builder component only?
End-users on our site are currently using the stand alone version of the old Query Builder (OBE60.EXE), which is not supported any longer, and have compatibility issues when used against a 10g database.
I'm looking for an alternative (query-only) tool, and came across the Query Builder component in Oracle Application Express. But couldn't find anything there that would allow me to limit access to this component for an end-user.
Please let me know if this can be achieved, and if not, is anyone aware of an equivalent tool that would do the job?
    Many Thanks,
    Praveen

    Hello,
No, that functionality does not exist currently, you would need to build your own.
If you search this forum there are a few threads which detail how you can install the Application Builder and SQL Workshop applications into the APEX environment itself so you can see how they (meaning the Oracle team) have built those apps.
    Hope this helps,
    John.

  • Query Builder in 3.0 Can it be called and used as part of an application

The query builder component is nice from an end user perspective. Can it be called in version 3.0 as part of an application? i.e. the user gets the tables listed in the app and can create the sql query as done when building the app? If so, does anyone know why not? Seems like all you'd have to limit it to would be the all_tables view where owner = 'application owner'. Has anyone tried to call this module?
    Bob

    HI Bob,
No you cannot call the query builder from your application.
You have a couple options though, one is to give the user developer rights, and then they can access the query builder, or you can search the forum for QBE, and that will generate 3 pages of hits. There's a couple generic variations out there that may suffice.
    Hope this helps,

  • SQL Developer replacement for Query Builder?

Our developers use query builder to quickly develop sql code w/conditions, joins, where clauses, etc. I just installed release 2 of SQL Developer and am trying to figure out if this is a viable replacement for query builder. Is there a graphical "query builder" component as part of SQL Developer?

Barry, I would agree that it should be clean and easy to use. I started using Data Browser 2.0 and migrated to Query Builder 6.0.7.1.0 and while Query Builder is no longer it's own product it's integrated into Reports Developer 10g. The basic layout and operation has been consistent thru the life cycle and I would think you'd keep the "look and feel" consistent with what's currently available. (might simplify integrating it too). My biggest complaint with Query Builder 6.0.7 (se don't use the 10g version) is that it errors when opening a schema with more than 8192 objects. As an E-Business Suite 11.5.10 customer this is an issue for our developers when logging in as the standard APPS user.
So here would be my "wish list"
    1. consistent look and feel with "older" versions of Browser/Query Builder
    2. removal of 8192 object limitation
    3. ability to open older .brw format files
Certainly more improvements would be possible by integrating with SQL Developer and would be welcomed - this wish list is coming from a user who has MANY .brw files in the older 6.0.7 format.

  • Why is query builder deprecated?

Why in the world did Oracle depracate Query Builder???
The query builder component in Report Builder is a poor substitute since it doesn't allow you to run the query (except as a report), and you can't save the query as a file. Query builder is one of the most handy tools that Oracle provided, and I wish there was a decent substitute. If there is one, please let me know.

the query builder tool can be accesed from
    http://servername:8080/AdminTools
servername is the name of your CR Svr 2008 machine
8080 is the Tomcat listening port
    AdminTools is case sensitive

  • What is a good Homesite query builder alternative?

Hello again. I'm making the switch from Homesite to DW. We
are using Sybase, and have no access to an enterprise manager
console or anything like that for making direct SQL queries. So we
used Homesite's built in query builder rather than write CF code
every time we need to do some quick updates/deletes whatever.
I understand there is no Dreamweaver equivilent built in, and
I'm not having much luck finding an alternative short of just
hand-coding CF pages to do all our quick-and-dirty SQL work. So
what do people here recommend? I definitely don't want to keep
Homesite running in the background just to build queries.
I am totally aware of the Recordset feature in DW, but it
only lets you READ data. I need something to do
    updates/inserts/deletes. Thanks.

There used to be a company called InterAKT that made a
    product that
used to be called Kollection. It had a query builder
    component.
The product has been reincarnated, sorta of, into the Adobe
Dreamweaver developer Toolbox. According to their product
information, the new replacement does have a query builder:
    Visual SQL query generation
Dynamic websites require interaction with a database. Adobe
Dreamweaver Developer Toolbox is the tool you need to get the
information you want out of your database visually —
    without having to
write complex SQL queries by hand.

I have not used this new version so I can't comment. The old
    InterAKT
product was easy to use, but I don't know whether it'll work
    with a
    Sybase database?

  • How to use Query Builder as a component inside our applications?

I am very new to Apex, but I loved it until now :)
After my first experience I am thinking to advice Apex as an Oracle database reporting environment to some of our marketing and sales guys. These guys are familiar to basic SQL and table, index concepts and their need is to create dynamic reports, take their output to excel and email these reports all around the company :)
    My first question is can Apex 3.1 work with 9.2 - 10.1 - 10.2 and 11.1?
My second question is how can I open the Query Builder inside the Create Region>SQL Report wizard to my users inside a custom user defined form?
My third question is if the answer of second question is it is not possible, then anyone can advice on alternatives for this kind of a need with Apex?
My last question is how Apex can handle a distributed database environment, like Java applications can it open several database connections as needed?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
My first question is can Apex 3.1 work with 9.2 - 10.1 - 10.2 and 11.1?Correct. That's said in the installation guide.
My second question is how can I open the Query Builder inside the Create Region>SQL Report wizard to my users inside a custom user defined form? This does not yet exist out of the box. You can have a look how Oracle did it and try to mimic it in your own application.
My third question is if the answer of second question is it is not possible, then anyone can advice on alternatives for this kind of a need with Apex?Import app 4500 in your own workspace. On page 1002 you should find the query builder.
Again you can't just run this, you would need to make customizations to it. Alternatively you can add just a textarea on a page where you can run SQL statements from. But I guess you want to have the graphical display?
My last question is how Apex can handle a distributed database environment, like Java applications can it open several database connections as needed?APEX is living in the Oracle database. So everything inside that database you can potentially work with. If you need data from other sources you can use a database link or hytrogenous connectivity. Basically if you can do it from the Oracle database, you can also do it from within APEX.

  • Query Builder in Crystal Report Server 2008?

I am running CRS2008 V1 on Windows Server 2003 as single server install. I am using IIS as the web application server. Query Builder doesn't show up as an option anywhere I can find. How do I get to Query Builder?
How do I install Query Builder if it is not already available?
    Is Tomcat required?
Can I continue to use IIS but have Query Builder available as well?
Can I go ahead and install Tomcat without crashing my BOE installation and IIS?
How do I install Tomcat on this server?

Well I've never installed CRS 2008 so I'm not sure. If the installer allows you should be able to go to add/remnove programs and modify the install, adding tomcat/java. If that is not allowed the installer may require IIS or tomcat only and a full reinstall (I hope not).
I work with BOE 3.1 mostly and we can add/remove it with that installer.

They mention "You are in the Taxonomy Query Builder iView"....
Wich authorization do I need?? Where is the iView??...
    Thanks in advance.

Search for ContentManager role in the user admin  and assign that role to your user id or the group you are in.
Once it is added, Content Manager role will come in Top level navigation.
Then navigate to Content Manager -> Classification-> Taxonnomy Query Builder.

  • Internal errors during Query Builder

Please help me to correct a problem. Database user has a very simple cube: a measure with two dimensions. User (named "warehouse") owns it, the fact table, the dimension tables etc.; client application connects using warehouse account too.
While QueryBuilder makes a data source, one dimension (providers) fails at the some selections; for example, selections "top 10" and "last 3" works, but selection "measure value &gt; 10000" fails; the other dimension (services) works great with all selections tried.
"Fails" means that selection step can be selected (moved from "available" to "selected" box), but cannot be configured (edited) at any manner, both in the left and right boxes - for example, I cannot edit value "10000". This selection cannot be applied too. Visually query builder does nothing, but prints exception trace (see below).

  • Query Builder functionality

Has anyone built a Query Builder Page in the apps that is similar to the standard APEX Query Builder?

I haven't done exactly this, but remember doing a tabular form genarator (similar to the tabular form wizard in the builder) choosing tables, columns and field types. But that was using Apex 3.2, now that we have jQuery and dynamic actions in Apex 4.0, it should be much easier.
If you looking for an approach, here's one
<li>create a left side bar region with tables from schema: report or list based
select table_name from user_tables<li>On click of the list entry, show a modal dialog of a report based on the columns of the selected table
    SELECT * FROM USER_TAB_COLS WHERE table_name = :<TABLE_NAME ITEM> Show images based on column type ("data_type" in user_tab_cols)
Checkboxes return the column name for each row
<li> Have a dynamic action that runs for each checkbox calling a PLSQL to update a collection adding the clicked column name to the the list.
Refresh a updateable report region which is based on the collection , showing the column, sort order, group by options
and JS code to move rows up or down (
    move_up code (pseudo code)
    this_row = $(this.triggeringElement).parents('tr:first);
    prev_row = this_row.prev();
    next_row = this_row.next();
    //move up
prev_row.before(this_row);Then the SQL code generation would concatenate the application arrays containing the column names adding columns one row at a time and adding sort and order options. You would need to some custom PLSQL coding, looping throw each row adding predicates.

  • Query Builder in 2.0

The Query Builder in 2.0 is really sweet, great job guys!
You do know you are going to get all sorts of "how did you do this ..." questions about the various cool things you did in there, right? :-)
When you get a chance, could you please put up demo apps/pages on the hosted site in a publicly accessibly (lock the pages to prevent changes) workspace so we can see how things were done.
    Specifically:
    1. Shrink/expand the list of tables as I type in the search box on the left hand side
    2. How does the table I click on in the list magically appear on the right hand side canvas?
    3. How does the cool drag-n-drop columns between tables to create a join work? [It would be very cool if this feature can be added to make page layout more WYSIWYG!]
    4. How does the little menu appear when I click on the "join line"?
    Thanks

I have to agree with Vikas, a really great job on the query builder.
As if you guys don't have enough to do though, I have a request for a How-to document.
I'd like to be able to call the query builder from my app, have it only display Views (instead of tables and views, maybe a user supplied list of objects?), and save the resulting SQL query as a variable from which I can drive the other pages in my application.
    Just a small request.... :^)

  • QueryString issues with Query Builder and Search Box

    Hi Guys,
I've got the following scenario (Issues are bolded for quicker reading):
I have a search results pages named results.aspx
I have a page, named messages.aspx, with a webpart that display messages from a specific folder (which can be changed in the webpart properties). On that page, there's a search box which will lead to results.aspx, and will do search only on the specific
    folder.
On the other hand, when I'm using Content Search Web Part, I can use the query builder to do the following:
    ParentLink:{QueryString.folder}
So all I have left to do is to send the folder as a query string parameter from messages.aspx to results.aspx.
    (1) The search box doesn't support sending other QueryString parameters,
which is also known to happen in previous SP versions, so I fixed the onclick events and voila, the folder parameter is transferred to results.aspx.
But something weird happens in results.aspx:
When I'm first redirected from messagses.aspx to results.aspx I get the follwing URL:
    /Pages/results.aspx?k=Washington&folder=Home - I've got results
When another query is issued from the search box of results.aspx I'm getting the folliwing URL:
    /Pages/results.aspx?k=Washington&folder=Home#k=Indiana - I've got NO results.
    Same with paging:
    /Pages/results.aspx?k=Washington&folder=Home#s=11
    (2) When a QueryString parameter is present in the results.aspx page, and than another query (different keywords, paging or anything) is issued using AJAX and hashtags  - no results are returned.
My guess is a client side issue: When the a new query is issued, adding a hashtag (#) to the URL, it ignores the QueryString parameter currently present in the URL, and thus the server doesn't recieve it in the query packet/http post xml, which creates a
valid query with no results, in my case: ParentLink:"", which I manually checked and does yield no results.
I've also tried the following with no help:
/Pages/results.aspx#k=Washington#folder=Home - no results. my guess is that folder is now not a QueryString
    /Pages/results.aspx?folder=Home#k=Washington - No results.
/Pages/results.aspx#k=Washington&folder=Home - The query text issued was "Washington&folder=Home" - no results of course.
    Any ideas any one?
    Amir

    Hi Amir,
after some months I found a workaround that solves this issue: just add & after your query string value, it will separate your parameter value from other strings that may be added by sharepoint controls.
    ie:
    if your page is http://spsite/page.aspx?param=value
just call it like this http://spsite/page.aspx?param=value&
    It works!
    Ciao

  • Query Builder Form Hide

    Hi Guys,
I am working on a requirement for manage attachment functionality. But I am facing one issue in one scenario.
From Manage attachment screen, User clicks on Search From Repository and in search page there are some default or hidden fields. Like where author is match with the login user and etc. For Expanded form there is no issue. All the hidden fields are not coming and search result is coming fine. But if user changes to Query Builder Form and manually modify the query then user can see all the content.
So I want to stop the user to show the Query Builder form by which he/she could not modify the query and search. Is there any process by which we can hide the Query Builder Form?
I have seen one Jonathan blog: https://jonathanhult.com/blog/2012/06/remove-fields-from-query-builder-search-form/
But I would like to full hide the form.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Santanu

    Hi Guys,
As part of the above solution  (DisabledSearchFormTypes=queryBuilder), the query builder form will never appear. Which is not a good practice.
Because for development this is very useful.
My intention was to stop the user access Query builder Form only in Manage attachment screen.
So I have created one custom component which will override the resource : query_page_menus_setup and check the xIdcProfile value.
If IdcProfile is PSFTProfile or EBSProfile then it will not appear.
    <$exec rsAppendNewRow("PageMenusData")$>
    <$PageMenusData.nodeId = "QUERY_BUILDER_FORM"$>
    <$PageMenusData.parentId = "SEARCH_FORMS"$>
    <$PageMenusData.label = "wwQueryBuilderActionLabel"$>
    <$PageMenusData.type = "item"$>
    <$if #active.dpDisplayLabel like ("EBSProfile|PSFTProfile")$>
    <$else$>
    <$PageMenusData.href = "javascript:switchQueryForm('queryBuilder')"$>
    <$endif$>
I think this is really good.
