Why is query builder deprecated?

Why in the world did Oracle depracate Query Builder???
The query builder component in Report Builder is a poor substitute since it doesn't allow you to run the query (except as a report), and you can't save the query as a file. Query builder is one of the most handy tools that Oracle provided, and I wish there was a decent substitute. If there is one, please let me know.

the query builder tool can be accesed from
http://servername:8080/AdminTools
servername is the name of your CR Svr 2008 machine
8080 is the Tomcat listening port
AdminTools is case sensitive

  • Vs 2010 Query Builder

    Hi guys,
    i'm using oracle 11.2.0.3 32 bit with vs2010 sp1.
I'm developing a windows application and i create a dataset file in order to map my db on it.
I want to add a custom select to a table adapter a i notice a problem.
My query is: SELECT simulatori.SEQ1.nextval FROM dual
simulatori is an oracle db and seq1 is a sequence.
If seq1 has a public synonym the query works, instead, if i want to specified the user also Query Builder quotes the simulatori user and the query doesn't work.
    Why?

Not sure what you mean by "quotes the simulatori user". If you mean that it adds quotations in the query, then make sure that you are providing all upper case, eg "SIMULATORI". Otherwise, the quotes may trigger case sensitivity. That's just a guess. I will need more information.

  • Results in Query Builder Differ From Report Results

I've got a report I built in SSRS using an SSAS dataset. The problem is that the results differ between the query builder result set and the actual report. For some reason, when running the actual report, certain rows are being filtered out, but yet those
same rows appear in the result set when validating the query in the query builder.
Here's the result set as it appears in query builder:
...and here are the results of the actual report:
As you can see, 3M and Angie's popcorn are not returned in the report. I have no filters defined on the report at all.
This appears to be happening with other result sets for the same report.
No idea why the results are accurate in query builder and then off in the actual report.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    A. M. Robinson

    Hi A. M. Robinson,
The issue may be caused by the data cache. When we preview a report, the report processor runs all the queries for datasets in the report using the current parameter defaults, and saves the results as a local data cache (.rdl.data) file. We can continue
to design our report without incurring the overhead of retrieving this data again if we make no changes to either the report dataset queries or the report parameters. Please to delete the cache (.rdl.data) file try to solve the issue.
    Reference: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157366.aspx
Alternative, you can create a similar report to check if the issue is persist.
If the issue is persist, could you please post more detail information about your report design?  It is benefit for us to do further analysis.

  • Query Builder in 3.0 Can it be called and used as part of an application

The query builder component is nice from an end user perspective. Can it be called in version 3.0 as part of an application? i.e. the user gets the tables listed in the app and can create the sql query as done when building the app? If so, does anyone know why not? Seems like all you'd have to limit it to would be the all_tables view where owner = 'application owner'. Has anyone tried to call this module?
    Bob

    HI Bob,
No you cannot call the query builder from your application.
You have a couple options though, one is to give the user developer rights, and then they can access the query builder, or you can search the forum for QBE, and that will generate 3 pages of hits. There's a couple generic variations out there that may suffice.
    Hope this helps,
    Bill Ferguson

  • Query Builder

I am running BOE XI 3.1 SP2 on Windows server SP2 as single server install. I am using IIS as the web application server. Query Builder doesn't show up as an option and from what I have been told it can only run if Tomcat web application server is running. I want to continue to use IIS but I would like to have Query Builder available as well. Can I go ahead and install Tomcat without crashing my BOE installation and IIS?

Since tomcat runs on a separate port by default you should be able to add it from the control panel add/remove programs, BOE install, modify.
There is no reason that I know of why that would affect IIS (accept you may decide after using it to scrap IIS in the future but that's a whole other issue)
I'd be interested if a war file could be deployed on WACS but I don't think that would be considered supported until it's officially released in the product.

  • Tables not in Query Builder table list bug?

In HTML DB version 1.6.0.00.87 we have tables defined in our schema in our workspace. When we create a view and click on the [Query Builder] link, no tables are in the drop down list for our schema. Why? The schema is there. I can go into the SQL Workshop and query the records our of the tables, but they are not listed in the [Query Builder].
I tried this same function but with my workspace at htmldb.oracle.com. The tables in my schema are listed there.
Is this a bug that was fixed in version 1.6.1.00.02?

There is one schema assigned to the workspace. That schema is listed in the pop-up window. Here are the steps I am doing:
    1.) Click on SQL Workshop
    2.) Click on Create Object
    3.) Click on View
4.) The correct schema is listed in the Schema field. There is only one schema in the drop-down list for the Schema field.
5.) Click on [Query Builder]. A separate browser window appears with the correct schema. There is only one value in the drop-down list for the schema. "- Select Table -" is in the TABLE field.
6.) I click on the TABLE field to get a list of tables for the schema. Only "- Select Table -" is listed. No other tables are listed.
I can cancel the Create View and return to the main page of the SQL Workshop. I can click on Tables to see what table are available. I select the correct SCHEMA and see the list of tables.
I tried this in the same version of HTML DB (v 1.6.0.00.87) in a different database ie. a different HTML DB repository and received the same results, missing tables in the pop-up page
I do not know why the tables do not list in the [Query Builder] for the Create View.

  • Flex/cold fusion wizard & Visual Query builder has a problem

has anybody tried the cold fusion / flex application wizard in flex 3?
to get there follow these menu choices:
file     new     other     cold fusion wizards     coldfusion / flex application wizard
I previously installed cf8 and the rds query viewer works fine.
i simply choose from the following menus:
window     other views...     Cold Fusion     RDS dataview
i was initially prompted for the rds password which i entered.
in the RDS Dataview, I can see the tables, columns, and data for all my existing datasources.
Unfortunately, when I use the COld Fusion/Flex application wizard,
I get to the page layout and design screen, add a page with the name artists, choose page type master,  and click the Edit master page button.
Nothing happens when I click the Edit Master Page button.  I followed the cf/flex tutorial exactly but there is no query builder.
I dont know if this is related but in the RDS query viewer, the Visual Query BUilder doesn't work.
I think this may be the problem (the visual query builder has a problem)
Unfortunately, how do I fix this problem

    already found the answer
flex has to be run as administrator if using WIndows Vista
simply shut down flex, right click the startup icon, choose run as administrator, and the visual query builder runs fine.
Dont know why this occurs because you are always prompted for the rds password.
    anyway, problem solved.

  • Query Builder won't apply chosen date to the where clause

Does anybody know why when I chose a date field, in the where clause, when using Query Builder, it won't actually write the chosen date to the actual query?
If I select the "View Query" tab, no date shows up. Also if I press the "Run Report" button in the "View Result" tab, I get this error:
"An error was encountered performing requested operation: ORA-00936: missing expression"
This is because actual date data is missing.
After I hit the "Apply" button, I have to manually type the date data.
I thought this was a bug of the previous version, but I just installed version 1.5.4 and I have no different result.
    Thanks.

I just wanted to add my name to the list of people having this issue.
    Oracle Techies, please help.

  • Query Builder - foreign key relationships not showing automatically

Is it standard functionality in APEX that foreign key to primary key relationships are not shown in Query Builder when choosing related tables? Do you always have to join FKs to PKs manually (i.e. using control click) whenever you create joins in queries? In Oracle forms and SQL Developer the foreign key constaints are always draw in automatically. Any reason why this is not part of APEX's query builder as well? It's such a hassel to have to put them in each time when the relationships could easily be read directly from the data dictionary constraints.

  • Query Builder - Tables not Appearing

Hi, I am encountering a problem when trying to use Query Builder.
If I have a table that is joined to by more than one other object and wish to drag TWO instances of this table into Query Builder, it will not allow it to happen. It doesn't give any error message, just at the end of the drag operation, nothing appears.
I've now tried it with a blank canvas and just tried to drag two instances of any table there. It will just not allow the second one to appear.
I am using SQLDeveloper in the following environmeny
OS Name Windows XP (version 5.1)
    java version 1.5.0_05
    java.vm.version 1.5.0_05-b05
    SQLDeveloper version 1.1.2.25
and am connecting to a local version of Oracle Database XE.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a known problem?
    Chloe

Thanks. I've requested it as a missing feature, but it seems odd that this functionality is not already there. Using the ubiquitous EMPLOYEE table that all good examples seem to use, you would not even be able to join this table to itself to get the details of managers of employees.
That's why I wondered if it was a bug on my laptop first.
I have taken your advice and created views of the tables I need to have multiple joins to as a workround for now, but I may end up with multiple views of the same table which could get unwieldy.
    Thanks again though. :-)

  • Query Builder not locating emails based on email address, only the display name will work.

I am trying to set up some search folders for Outlook 2010 for emails either to or from a specific domain name.  I am using the Query Builder to set up the logic for the search criteria.
Here's an example of what I am trying to do.
I have three people from a specific company that I want all emails I either send them or they send me to go to.  Their email address are as follows:
    Jane Doe <[email protected]>
    John Doe <[email protected]>
    Mary Smith <[email protected]>
Here is the issue I am having.  When I set up the criteria for the search folder, entering From --> Contains --> [email protected] (or any of the other addresses mentioned above) will return no results.  Entering From ---> Contains
--> companyxyz.com will yield no results.  Only entering From ---> Contains --> Jane Doe will yield any results.
If I use the From field in the standard Messages Tab of the Search Folder Criteria window then just entering companyxyz.com will give me all the messages.  The problem that I have is that I cannot set up any OR conditionals with this standard field
which is why I am using the Query Builder.
My question is why doesn't the actual email address work for a search criteria in Query Builder and how can I set up a criteria for a domain name (@companyxyz.com) so that I can see all communication with a particular company?

    Hi,
This is the expected behavior of Outlook.
The Search Folder Criteria dialog has two From fields. One From field is under Messages tab and another From field is under the Advanced (or Query Builder) tab. The From field under Message tab uses email address while
the From field under Advanced or Query Builder tabs uses the display name. So, when we want to use Query Builder to create a Search folder that filters by email address, the Query Builder ignores the email address and uses the display name instead.

  • Visual Query Builder problem

I have the trail version of Flex Builder 2 IDE. I can run the
RDS, and do manual SQL queries. But when I click on the Visual
Query Builder button, nothing happens - not even an error message.
When I try to use the ColdFusion/Flex application Wizard, I can get
to the Page Layout and Design screen. Then when I click on the Edit
Master Page or Edit Detail Page button, again, nothing happens. I
think this also uses the Visual Query Builder, so maybe that's why
    it isn't working.
Is there something extra I didn't download or setup?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Query builder no tables

    Hi,
I am using the trial of query builder. It loads, but has no connection to the database, so there are no tables. I have no trouble creating a record set the regular way, so I think there is no problem with my connection.
    Any ideas appreciated.
    thanks, Shelly

    Well - many hours later:
Twice in 40 or 50 tries, the query editor opened with tables in it. I tried to figure out why it worked those 2 times and had prepared a long message explaining the possibilites. I had been messing with security settings in IE, rebooting, etc. But then it ocurred to me to open an old project with just a few tables, and it worked perfectly.
So you asked how many tables. 73 in the database that doesn't work. Assuming that is the problem, do you know how many is okay? Please let me know.
    thanks, Shelly

  • Eclipse - RDS Query Builder dies young

I'm running Eclipse 3.4.2 on Vista (please keep any
anti-Vista bigotry to yourself, unless you are aware of any known
Vista-related issues that are related to this one). I've installed
the Adobe CF801 Extensions in order to do debugging and data
acccess. I'm also running Cold Fusion 8 - single server with IIS.
DB is Oracle 10g - also installed locally on the same machine.
I created my RDS Configuration on Port 80 with RDS
authentication, etc. No Problem - both "Test Connection" and "Test
    Debugger" are successful.
Now I go into the RDS Query Builder and things are looking
pretty happy. I can see the database objects, maybe select a table
or two...even build and run queries. But after running like one
query (or maybe only browsing a couple of tables) I get this
message: "A connection to the RDS Server could not be established
    because the webserver was unreachable".
So, I close out the Query Builder and bring the RDS
Configuration back up - re-try the "Test Connection" and "Test
Debugger" and they both still work. When I bring the Query Builder
back up, I get the same "connection...could not be established"
message and the Query Builder screen is just all blank.
Consistently, when I then Exit Eclpse, I get a popup saying:
"Exception EOSError in module RDSQueryBuilder.dll at 000113E5.
System Error. Code 1404. Invalid Hook Handle."
Did the same thing over several times with the same result.
Also, rebooted the whole box and things still work the same.
Seemingly the QueryBuilder is losing its handle on the RDS
Configuraion or possibly not releasing some kind of lock on it
between queries or schema gets, even though my connections are
    still fine.
This definitely isn't going to cut it - if I have to exit and
re-start Ecipse everytimh I need to do a query.
    Any suggestions?

in addition, I can say that I installed the same flex builder
trial on an XP machine, using its own local RDS, and found that the
    wizard worked just fine.
So what is the variable here, why is the wizard not working
    on the vista PC ?
    Is it Vista ?
Is it the fact that I'm trying to use RDS against a remote
server and not the local one ?

  • Migrating from Query Builder to Discoverer 10g

Can any one suggest that is there any ways that end user can edit/modify the query as they can do it in query Builder, with out editing worksheets.
Currently the queries were created by File->Import Sql option and granted access to users. Is there any provision for end users to change the query according to their needs and use it with out affecting other users?.

    Hi
No this is not possible. Discoverer is a GUI tool and that is the way you have to edit the query. Having altered the GUI then Discoverer will rewrite the SQL.
Most end users don't have a clue about SQL in the first place. The whole point of having a GUI front end to ad-hoc query tool is that users don't need to know SQL to build a query. The EUL further means the users don't need to know how the database is put together.
People who use Discoverer to point directly at the database tables are missing the point of the EUL. The users of those systems are also missing out on the full functionality of the tool. This is why you don't manually edit the SQL behind a Discoverer worksheet.
    Best wishes
    Michael
