Query builder doens't start

Hi
I am using SQL Deleveloper 3.1.07. If I want to create a view, clicking on the "Query" button inside the general tab of the view properties window doesn't bring up the query builder.
Ther's noting in the log window, only silence.
Can anybody help me or point out how to create a vew in Data Modeler without the query builder as a work araound
Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to me,
I am using Data Modeler from within SQL Developer.
Not starting up the query builder doesn't produce anything in the logfile.
I have this (lack of starting up) with both the 32 and 64 bits version of SQL Developer
I have installed the latest standalone version of Data Modeler adn from there everything works fine

  • Parsing Error when using query builder

    I have a query with a subquery in the WHERE statement witn multiple fields listed in the select statement.
    For example, the subquery starts with "AND (center, jobid) IN SELECT center, jobid FROM ........
    The query runs fine and gives me the correct data
    However when I click on the Query builder option, I receive the following error
    "Text is not a valid, single SELECT statement.

    Invalid Select Statement.

    I believe this to be a problem with the query builder, Am I correct?

    Query Builder is a visual environment targeted at novice/intermediate users. Some advanced and/or hard to visualize language features are not supported. The improved error messaging coming in 3.1 would indicate this is 'unsupported' rather than 'not a valid, single SELECT statement.' For example, (using scott/tiger):
    Text contains unsupported syntax.
    Parsing error:
    Failed to parse SQL query.
    Invalid SELECT statement.
    Unexpected token "," at line 4, pos 16.

    I don't know what your real query is, but refactoring to use join on derived table or table expression (or, as Gary said, separate IN clauses) rather than '(a, b) IN' will allow Query Builder to display it.

  • SQL developer 3.0 - Few Query Builder issues

    Hi All,
    I have just started using SQL Developer 3.0 so have not fully browsed thru all of the available options in SQL Developer. I have been trying to work on creating and editing sql statements using Worksheet and Query Builder.
    I am working on to test this tool so I can give it to the users for them to try and use it - they used to work on the old Query Builder 6.0.7....since it is already de-supported long back to work against 11g database, I am hoping to tell them to use SQL developer 3.0 instead.
    Hence, if an user doesn't know how to write a sql statement, he/she would try to do the same using Query Builder.
    So, the following questions are more aligned towards a normal user who would try to create a query in the Query Builder window, instead of directly typing a sql statement in the Worksheet window.
    1) How to establish/create a relationship between tables after you have dragged down the tables into the Query Builder window? - i tried but couldn't get any options!.
    2) Sometimes I see 'Connection closed' error when i try to run a query. How to refresh the connection without opening a new Connection tab?
    - I tried this but evertytime it opens up a new connection tab, while the old tab is still present.
    3) Columns in the Expression field in Query Builder window can ONLY be displayed in the result set, if the 'output' box on the extreme left of the 2nd section in Query Builder window is checked.
    Now when i try to check the output box for an expression (with few aggregate functions), the 'Grouping' check box automatically gets checked, which when run throws an ORA-00934 error: group function is not allowed here...but when I de-select the 'Grouping' check box, the 'output' box also gets un-checked!.
    How to solve this out?
    Please let me know the resolutions of the above - much appreciated.

  • SQL Developer replacing Query Builder 6.0.7

    Dear All,
    We know SQL Developer 3.0 has a link to Query Builder from within it, but does it contain a similar structure as we saw in the old Query Builder 6.0.7 developed by Oracle long back?
    The old Query Builder 6.0.7 could be used for editing and creating parameterised queries and generating formatted output, so just want to know if we can get the similar functionality using SQL Developer 3.0.
    1. Whether SQL Developer 3.0 can create and edit queries by selecting data tables in Oracle?
    2. Can it convert any old Query Builder queries (in .brw extension) to a format that can be run in SQL Developer 3.0?
    I am about to download and install the SQL developer 3.0, but thought of asking here first and get some advice/views.
    So, Please reply back with anything that might help me out.
    With Regards,
    Pamir

    Yes thanks Jim...I realised that when I started to dig more into this.
    Now I have downloaded and installed the software...currently am able to create, edit queries and do other stuff.

  • How to use Query Builder in JDeveloper?

    I am not able to use Query Builder with JDeveloper version 11g 2.
    The online documentation about Query Builder:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35521_01/user.111230/e17455/db_tools.htm#OJDUG2380
    "To use Query Builder:
    Open the SQL Worksheet.
    Right-click and choose Query Builder."
    But when I right-click on the SQL Worksheet, there is no menu item "Query Builder".
    Does the documentation belong to a different version of JDeveloper?

  • SQL Developer replacement for Query Builder?

    Our developers use query builder to quickly develop sql code w/conditions, joins, where clauses, etc. I just installed release 2 of SQL Developer and am trying to figure out if this is a viable replacement for query builder. Is there a graphical "query builder" component as part of SQL Developer?

    Barry, I would agree that it should be clean and easy to use. I started using Data Browser 2.0 and migrated to Query Builder 6.0.7.1.0 and while Query Builder is no longer it's own product it's integrated into Reports Developer 10g. The basic layout and operation has been consistent thru the life cycle and I would think you'd keep the "look and feel" consistent with what's currently available. (might simplify integrating it too). My biggest complaint with Query Builder 6.0.7 (se don't use the 10g version) is that it errors when opening a schema with more than 8192 objects. As an E-Business Suite 11.5.10 customer this is an issue for our developers when logging in as the standard APPS user.
    So here would be my "wish list"
    1. consistent look and feel with "older" versions of Browser/Query Builder
    2. removal of 8192 object limitation
    3. ability to open older .brw format files
    Certainly more improvements would be possible by integrating with SQL Developer and would be welcomed - this wish list is coming from a user who has MANY .brw files in the older 6.0.7 format.

  • Query Builder within SQL Developer 2.1 versus Query Builder Version 6.0.7.1

    Dear all,
    dear Sue Harper,
    we use Oracle 10g (upgrade to 11g is planed) and used the Oracle Query Builder Version 6.0.7.1 by now unless we got to know about the SQL Developer 2.1 including the Query Builder a few weeks ago to produce our SQL statements an efficient way.
    Even tho the SQL Developer 2.1 Query Builder already has some nice features, like sorting the data fields ascending, export to excel, etc, that the Oracle Query Builder Version 6.0.7.1 did not have had, we miss some essential features, like the in-statement, define column, etc while on the other side tables are not included in SQL-code unless fields are selected or i.e. date fields cannot be queried in the where conditions.
    I read the release notes and know that the SQL Developer 2.1 Query Builder is scheduled for rewrite in the next release.
    Does it make any sense to summarized all things we noticed and get in touch with whomever it may concern?
    Btw, if it would be possible to define a location for the stored connections within the SQL Developer 2.1 it would be very helpful... When starting SQL Developer 2.1 in our Windows Vista network environment it never finds the connection settings (file) automatically and we have to re-import the connections from a pre-defined directory.
    Nevertheless, the SQL Developer 2.1 is a pretty user-friendly and most times reliable tool we are thankful for.
    Kind regards,

    @user12092220
    Yep, I saw your post; sorry for not replying, but i thought it's pretty the same problem i have. ;)
    The missing possibility to query date-fields in the where clause is really one of a many things i miss in the SQL Dev Query Builder, i am sure you use an "in" statement as well as we do. I think going back to the manual creation of the where condition like we had in Version 6.0.7.1.0 should be okay with most users, at least additional to the current solution as long as the rest of the query can be built within the graphic user interface. Further to save and open a query in gui mode is really, really important for us. Not to mention that the boxes for the tables cannot be stretched over a certain extend and i cant separate the columns any longer :/
    Other than that, SQL Developer is a pretty nice tool in my eyes, it's free and hopefully Version 3.0 will be closer to what we would like the SQL Developer to be like.

  • Query builder - OR condition

    Hi,
    I'm new to Publisher and can't seem to fiigure out the best way to do an 'OR' condition in query builder. Any tips? For example if in regular SQL I wanted:
    select * from employee
    where empnbr is not null
    or empnbr > 100
    Basically two conditions on the same column. Can this be done easily in query builder or do I have to have my users work with the raw SQL to get this done? Thanks!

    Using query builder to build the SQL statement is a one-time shot. Once you've created and saved a query, you cannot go back to QB and edit the query, regardless of the change you want to make. The statement can be edited back out in the main design window. Further, you do not have to rely upon the drop down menu items in the clause/filter conditions. You can manually enter/edit the query in the report window if so desired. Not every function is available in the lists anyway. QB is a beginner's crutch (everyone starts out new to SQL, no problem with that) to scripting SQL.
    In your situation, how do you apply more than one condition to a single column? QB does not allow that directly, but what you can do is a self-join on the table, use the employee ID as the relation, and select salary in both tables. The resulting query will be like so:
    select     EMPLOYEES.EMPLOYEE_ID as EMPLOYEE_ID,
         EMPLOYEES.SALARY as SALARY,
         EMPLOYEES_1.EMPLOYEE_ID as EMPLOYEE_ID,
         EMPLOYEES_1.SALARY as SALARY
    from     HR.EMPLOYEES EMPLOYEES_1,
         HR.EMPLOYEES EMPLOYEES
    where EMPLOYEES.EMPLOYEE_ID=EMPLOYEES_1.EMPLOYEE_ID
    and      EMPLOYEES.SALARY is not null
    and     EMPLOYEES_1.SALARY > 1000
    It will be easier (and more performant) to script the first condition, and then add the second inside the report window.

  • Query Builder and 8i

    Is it possible to use Query Builder with 8i?
    I installed it but was unable to connect to the starter database installed with 8i.
    I installed the Query Builder(and Project Builder) into a different directory from the 8i install.
    When QB starts, it asks for the name, PW, and connection. I enter the N and PW and the instance of the 8i DB but it comes back with a transport error.
    1. Is Q Builder compatible with 8i?
    2. Is there a document describing how to set them up to work together?

  • GUI Query Builder for Users

    Hey all,
    For anyone who was following my last post, I did convince my
    boss to buy CF, so epic win there. I am now starting to replace
    some our existing software with CF based code. One of the first
    things we would like to do is setup a "Query builder" type of
    thing. Basically we have a database with over 100 fields in a
    particular table. I need some kind of interface that will allow a
    user to easily build a complex query that can include any number of
    those fields. Before I start reinventing the wheel I was wondering
    if anyone had code for something like this already or could point
    in the direction of a place that might. All it needs to do is put a
    nice front end on an SQL query basically, and really only for the
    where statement part of it. We are always going to be selecting the
    same info, from the same table, but what records we select will be
    very very different. Thanks in advance.

    A slightly more fleshed out example: Code is CF8 based, some
    features
    not compatible with older versions, but easily convertible.
    <cfscript>
    aTest = [
    label = 'foobar',
    updateable = false,
    type = 'picklist'
    label = 'george',
    updateable = true,
    type = 'int'
    label = 'nix',
    updateable = true,
    type = 'picklist'
    label = 'gracie',
    updateable = false,
    type = 'text'
    </cfscript>
    <cfdump var="#aTest#">
    <cfset FormItems = structNew()>
    <cfloop array="#aTest#" index="key">
    <cfset aTemp = structNew()>
    <cfset aTemp.label = key.label>
    <cfset aTemp.updateable = key.updateable>
    <cfset aTemp.type = key.type>
    <cfif NOT structKeyExists(FormItems,key['type'])>
    <cfset FormItems[key['type']] = arrayNew(1)>
    </cfif>
    <cfset arrayAppend(FormItems[key['type']],aTemp)>
    </cfloop>
    <cfdump var="#FormItems#">
    <cfoutput>
    <cfloop collection="#formItems#" item="elemAry">
    <h1>#elemAry#</h1>
    <cfloop array="#formItems[elemAry]#" index="element">
    <p>#element.label# - #element.updateable# -
    #element.type#</p>
    </cfloop>
    </cfloop>
    </cfoutput>
    Will need some modification to match your situation and there
    is some
    redundancy that could be eliminated. But should be a good
    proof of concept.

  • Query Builder re-entrant ?

    Hi,
    the new Query Builder looks good. But is there a way to reopen a query in Query Builder? I couldn't find.
    Best Regards
    Rainer

    I am just now starting to test SQL Developer 1.1.3 and was confounded by the way Query Builder disappears once I clicked on Apply.
    Thank you for the information concerning Query Builder. Do you know if Oracle has made any advances on this issue since the beginning of the year? You indicated in your email that there might be a way to let Oracle know that this is a major weakness in the application. Two questions:
    1. I presently use the old version of Query Builder 6.07.1.0 but it has limitations. Are there any patches to bring it completely up to speed for Oracle 10i?
    2. Are there other stand alone applications that provide a good graphical RAD interface similar to Query Builder? The primary function of the application as we will use it is to assist non-technical staff build queries. Therefore, the graphical interface is a base requirement.
    Thanks for your help.
    I thought that there was something to do so that I could get back to Query Builder after I clicked on Apply.

  • Can I turn off Autofit for tables in Query Builder?

    Using SQL Developer 3.2.20 and tabbing between the Query Builder and Worksheet always Autofits the height of the tables. Since the tables I'm using are in Enterprise Business Suite they have hundreds of rows making the graphical reprentation almost useless without resizing the table objects.
    Is there any way to turn off this "feature"?
    I am a new user of Query Developer and am using version 3.2.20.09.
    I copied in a sql statement, clicked the query builder tab, visualized my sql statements and resized all the objects so they were viewable. Then when I click on the Worksheet tab and then click on the Query builder tab again all my objects are autofit to the height of the table and it takes about 15 minutes to size them again so I can see all the joins in the gui display - which is the point of the graphical interface.
    Edited by: 969018 on Nov 1, 2012 2:13 PM

    Thank you for confirming what I suspected.
    If there was a workaround that allowed under the View menu to resize all objects to fit the current window, that would be an acceptable choice. It would seem if the box can be drawn to the maximum size that shows all the columns in the table, then maybe an easy override would be draw the table showing only one column??
    Do you work on the development team for SQL Developer?
    Another idea would be to be able to zoom out so the resizing of objects would be easier.
    Unfortunately your good suggestion of starting with Query Builder and finishing up requires more skill than I posses when working with many tables. I find it necessary to go back to the visual representation to understand all of my joins when I get many tables and then have a problem with my query. If only I could write it correct the first time.

  • Re: Some Tables are missing: Query Builder

    Thank you!!! I had the same problem and this (table.xml) has helped, I can now see the tables in the left.
    I'm also not able to see any tables in the "Query Builder". I have tried to explore to see if the fix is similar with no luck. Does the Query Builder have a simlar fix?
    Thanks!!!
    Max

    Max,
    I branched this query to start a new thread. While the thread: Some Tables are missing did help you see your tables, much of the discussion happened last year and was not about the query builder.
    In the query builder for the current 1.1.2 build, you can only see tables you own. In the next update, you'll also be able to see tables you have select access to.
