  • Query on XML Form Builder

    Hi,
    I have an news application to be developed in XML Form Builder. I am creating News Author part of it. It has an Date field where i have to do an validation like the user cannot enter date less than the current date. I can perform simple data type validation through  the form builder. Can I perform the above said validation in XML form builder or is there an work around in getting this done.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Ganesh

    hi,
    I opened the schema of  this particular application in the KM. I edited the tag for the particular application and included my restriction, so that the validation could occur. I did the same for string field in restricting the no of characters and found to be sucessful. But the same doesnt work for date field...
    The tag goes like this
    <element name="ExpiryDate" default="" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1" type="date" ns="default"><simpleType><restriction base="date"><minInclusive value="01/01/2009"/></restriction></simpleType></element>
    Usually you dont have this restriction.....I have added the tag in bold.....But still validation doesnt occur.....What is the format in which date is stored????
    The same worked for string field as shown below. I can restrict the entry to just 5 characters depending upon the restriction, I make in the schema.....
    element name="Courtesy" default="" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1" type="string" ns="default"><simpleType><restriction base="string"><maxLength value="5"/></restriction></simpleType></element>
    How can i apply the same to date field???
    Any inputs from Consultants worked in Form Builder??
    Thanks & Regards,

    While converting from 6i to 10g it is unavoidable to convert forms and libraries, so please help me!
    PS: I can recompile forms with attached libraries if the PLX-Files (6i) are available, but the forms will not work with these PLX-Files.
    edited by ths:
    I tried to generate a new library. This works fine until I saved it. After naming the library and pressing the save button in the dialog the pll file was created and the same error message appears.
    I closed form builder and tried to reopen the library: same error.
    I generated another new library and save this by selecting the first new I generated. Jippee! I get the message that the file already exists! I selected "overwrite" and the file was overwritten. After that the same error appears.
    How can I (re)open PLL files? It is no solution to generate a new library overwriting the old one everytime some changes should made.
    Trying to build the library (Ctrl+T) produces another error:
        FRM-91507: Internal Error: Unable to generate library.
    Compiling (Ctrl-Shift-K) works fine.

    Hi Mark,
    there's no user except of me on the pc and server (I'm working via rdp-client on a virtual server), no server and no oc4j task or instance started. The one and only program that runs is forms builder. The error occurs if I just try to open a pll file via the file open dialog of forms builder.
    With my admins we found that forms builder creates a (temporary) file (e.g. s22o without extension with 827392 bytes) in c:\ but only if I'm the actual user. After I'm getting the permission to create and update files on c:\ forms builder was able to open pll files. Now we're trying to find out why this accurs only on my login. With other users we tried these file was created on F:\ which is the personal drive of the user. I'm only wondering about the fact that temporary files were not created in the TEMP folder defined by the TMP or TEMP environment variable.
    So we solved this unusual problem in an unusual way.

  • Forms builder crashes when opening any pll

    Hi,
    I have gotten this problem that my forms builder crashes immediately when I try to open any pll file. (There is nothing wrong with the pll file - my colleagues can open these files with no problems on their computers). It crashes before the pll file is even remotely loaded - almost as if it encounters an error during the parsing of the pll file.
    I have no problem opening and editing fmb files in my forms builder.
    This problem has not always existed but it came all of a sudden one day and since its been impossible for me to open a pll file and its getting annoying :P

    I tried deleting everything under D:\ORA6i where its installed and then reinstalling it - but the problem is still there.
    Does anyone have an idea about what could be wrong - because I am clueless atm. - could it be some registry settings that somehow got changed maybe ?
    Edited by: [email protected] on Sep 3, 2008 5:06 AM

    I have encountered various issues like this with Forms 6i over time and have tried numerous things to fix them - including complete uninstall of all Oracle products and reinstalls and the one thing I found to work best was to run a Registry Cleanup tool. I had the best success with Microsoft's RegClean.exe tool (originally released as a PowerTool), but it is getting harder to find now that Microsoft has desupported it and pulled it from their web site. There are a few places where you can still get it; www.cnet.com, www.zdnet.com, and www.majorgeeks.com just to name a few. Other Registry Tools will probably work fine as well, but this is the one I have history with. I did not have 100% success by cleaning the registry, but 50 to 75% of the time it fixed the issue without having to uninstall and reinstall Oracle Forms.
    Disclaimer: Please exercise caution when doing anything with the Windows Registry. The smallest change could have serious effects. Always backup the registry or create a restore point with System Restore before you make any changes to the Registry!
    Hope this helps.

    Hello Avinash,
    You can directly use query in form personalization Conditions like
    select date_probation_end from per_assignments_x where person_id = :PERIOD_OF_SERVICE.PERSON_ID
    and put in your condition like if you want to validate Probation end date is less then sysdate then in condition put in like.
    TRUNC(SYSDATE) < (select TRUNC(date_probation_end) from per_assignments_x where person_id = :PERIOD_OF_SERVICE.PERSON_ID)
    set the error message.

  • Oracle Forms Builder 10g Questions

    Good day everyone,
    I want to start off by saying that I'm very new to Oracle Forms Builder (it was dumped on my table about a month ago) and I'm having some issues I need resolved in order to complete a project for a client.
    I'm looking mainly for documentation or resources that will show me how to do the following in Oracle Forms Builder 10g:
    * Use either the ENTER button or mouse click to navigate between mandatory fields in a form (currently only TAB works)
    * Populate a field[s] after pressing a search button based on a SQL query
    * Populate a field[s] on launch based on a SQL query
    * Throw a warning message if an SQL query returns with a specific result
    * Populate a drop down menu based on a SQL query (ie only show valid options to user)
    * Remove static highlighting (fields should only be highlighted if necessary, which is never on this particular form)

    I've been able to reduce my problem down to the fact that Oracle Forms Builder 10g is not configured correctly on my machine for my environment. I can seem to get Oracle Forms Builder to see my libraries. When I load the form I'm working on I get the following error:
    FRM-18108: Failed to load the following objects.
    Source Module:utlf_gui
    Source Object: TOOLBAR_MDI
    +... (many more of the one above)+
    I press ok and get the following error:
    FRM-10102: Cannot attach PL/SQL library sdsl. This library attachment will be lost if the module is saved.
    +... (many more of the one above)+
    From my various searches on the internet I've learned that this is because Oracle Forms Developer can not find the listed PL/SQL libraries and I should check my Environmental variables. I've set up two Environmental variables with the following:
    Forms_Path = C:\<project path>\Lib\   (This is the folder in the project folder where all the PL/SQL libraries are stored)
    Forms90_Path = C:\<project path>\Lib\   (This is the folder in the project folder where all the PL/SQL libraries are stored)
    I created both Environmental variables because there wasn't any consistency on the sites I was checking to which was needed.
    Also if I try to attack a PL/SQL library I get the following error:
    Attached library name <name> contains a non-portable directory specification. Remove path?
    I press yes or no and get the following error:
    PDE-PLI038 Cannot open file for use as a PL/SQL library.
    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Login Screen in Oracle forms builder 6i

    Hello everyone
    I am trying to create a canvas with a login screen and password in oracle forms builder 6i.
    So far I have create the following table:
    CREATE TABLE PASSWORD
    (USER_ID NUMBER(3)
    CONSTRAINT PASSWORD_USER_ID_PK PRIMARY KEY,
    PASSWORD VARCHAR2(20) NOT NULL);
    Inserted the following values:
    INSERT INTO PASSWORD (USER_ID,PASSWORD)
    VALUES (1,1010);
    INSERT INTO PASSWORD (USER_ID,PASSWORD)
    VALUES (2,2020);
    Created a MENU canvas with a LOGIN button TI_USER_ID and TI_PASSWORD text boxes.
    In the LOGIN button i have inserted the following WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger:
    BEGIN
    SELECT USER_ID
    INTO :GLOBAL.USER_ID
    FROM PASSWORD
    WHERE USER_ID = :LOGIN.TI_USER_ID
    AND PASSWORD= :LOGIN.TI_PASSWORD;
    GO_BLOCK('PASSWORD');

    WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
    :GLOBAL.COUNT := :GLOBAL.COUNT + 1;
    IF :GLOBAL.COUNT = 1 THEN

    MESSAGE('wrong');
    MESSAGE('wrong');
    ELSIF
    :GLOBAL.COUNT = 3 THEN
    EXIT_FORM;
    END IF;
    END;
    When i try to compile that it gives an error Bad bind variable LOGIN.TI_USER_ID
    Bad bind variable LOGIN.TI_PASSWORD
    What am i doing wrong?

    989056 wrote:
    Ok i changed the button to contain only the following:

    when i now press login it gives an error FRM 40735: WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-01403
    i tried to reffer to several items in several blocksi suspect that when you removed the exception it ends up with the no data found error. you need not to remove the exception clause try to bring that back. then try in SQL*Plus to see if your query returns any rows with the same data that you are attempting to use in your TI_USER_ID and TI_PASSWORD block item. if it does not return that is the cause of your issue it will not execute the GO_ITEM() command it will simply go to the exception clause.

  • Form Compiles in Forms Builder but not Unix?

    I have a form that compiles fine in Forms Builder (Version 6.0.8.11.3). When trying to compile the form on a Solaris Middleware Server it fails and gives several errors similar to the following:

    I realize that these same errors in Forms Builder if I have not connected to the database (Version 9.2.0.4.0) before compiling so I'm guessing that there is some environment variable set incorrectly on the middleware server. • Dynamic form search in form builder

    Hello folks, I am relatively new to form builder, only a few months of experience, and here is the problem that I am having.
    I have this table, table1, with columns A,B,C,D..etc, I want to set up the search page in the following fashion:
    - One text field for every column of the table
    - The user can fill some of these text field, and leave others empty.
    - the form should only search for the columns in the text fields that are not empty, for example, if I leave the text field corresponding to A empty, then I can search for any value of A.
    - the result of the search is displayed in an LOV.
    I have read around and I found it to be something like that in the LOV query:
    SELECT *
    FROM table1
    WHERE
    (:block.A_text_field IS NULL OR table1.A = :block.A_text_field) and
    (:block.A_text_field IS NULL OR table1.A = :block.A_text_field) and etc for all columns...
    Or maybe this:
    SELECT *
    FROM table1
    WHERE (A = :block.A_text_field AND :block.A_text_field IS NOT NULL) OR
    (B = :block.B_text_field AND :block.B_text_field IS NOT NULL)OR etc for all columns....
    I haven't tested these two sample codes, because the server is closed currently, but would they work knowing my requirement? Would this query search for any value of B if the B_text_field was left empty? eg. user types 55 in A_text_field and leaves B_text_field empty; would it generate an LOV that shows A=55 and B any value?

    well to my mind this where clause
    (:block.A_text_field IS NULL OR table1.A = :block.A_text_field) and
    (:block.B_text_field IS NULL OR table1.B = :block.B_text_field) and [...]returns:
    if A_TEXT_FIELD is entered, then the column A column has to be exact the value of A_TEXT_FIELD (:block.A_TEXT_FIELD = table1.A) else if it there isn't any value entered there is no limitation for table1.A (:block.A_TEXT_FIELD is null with OR condition).
    When entering A_TEXT_FIELD and B_TEXT_FIELD, both limitations have to be fulfilled (if only B_TEXT_FIELD is entered just the B_TEXT_FIELD condition has to be fulfilled of course).
    When you don't enter any conditions in your textfields, you get all records from the table
    whereas the second construct won't return anything if you don't enter some data in your text fields.
    guess this:
    :block.a_text_field is null and :block.b_text_field is null, so this would be:
    (A = NULL and NULL IS NOT NULL) --this is false
    OR (B = NULL and NULL IS NOT NULL) -- this is also falseyou can simply check this by issuing the following query in SQL*Plus or something:
    CRONET@tcp_asterix_impl> select 1 from dual where 1 = null and null is not null;
    no rows selected
    CRONET@tcp_asterix_impl>So I believe the first condition does the thing you want.

  • Form Builder 6.0.8 (Solaris) Keyboard Shortcut Keys

    I am having no luck getting the keyboard shortcut keys to work inside Form Builder (e.g. Ctrl+j for connect)
    or during run time (e.g. Alt+11 for Execute Query).

    Roar,
    the order of blocks does only influence the navigation but not the visibility. However, if the button bar is on a canvas that doesn't show if the focus isn't in it then having teh button block on top makes sure the focus is set there. Are the push bottons on a separate canvas or are they on the same canvas as your data ? If not, then how do you ensure that the stacked canvas gets displayed ? Anyway, running the Form from teh builder uses teh same client/server runtime that is used when running your application stand alone. So it must be something within teh navigation (I am guessing).

  • Creating Query Form in Forms 6i

    Is there any standard Oracle Templates to create a query form or the search form in 6i.
    Thanks,
    Sunil

    Hi,
    AFAIK, there is no templates as such. The search form / query form design is purely based on your requirement. Oracle provides the built-ins (enter_query and execute_query) with the default columns. If you need to build your own search form, put all the required attributes in a form manner, and then generate your own where clause based on the user input to query on the table.

  • Forms Builder - Want to use Clipboard

    Form builder - developer 2000
    I am writing a program which should check weather there is something in clipboard .
    as soon as something comes to clipboard the trigger should
    be fired . Is there any trigger which will get fired as soon
    as something add to clipboard .
    Value to the clipboard comes from Comm PORT - that is further
    connect to a telephone device which gives caller ID .
    Is is very important because this will help my program to interact with another application which put some text to clipboard and my program takes that value and query my database
    to give the result .
    Thank you

    There is no such a trigger. However u can use WHEN-TIMER-EXPIRED trigger (read about timers: Create_Timer, Delete_Timer, etc.) to periodically check the clipboard, actualy to perform Paste_Region - say on each second. Then just make a logic to compare the old paste with the new one and do appropriate actions. Hope this helps.
