Query producing wrong no. of rows

Hi,
I have a query joining two tables:( I am giving the simpler
version)
select /*+ INDEX_COMBINE(ym_product) INDEX_COMBINE(ym_zone_def)
ym_product.product_id, ym_zone_def.product_id
from
ym_product , ym_zone_def
where
ym_product.product_id = ym_zone_def.product_id
and ym_product.product_id in ( 1000, 1002)
This query results into:
ym_product.product_id ym_zone_def.product_id
1000 1000
1000 1002
I am not getting any idea why its displying the second row, when
there is a join on these 2 columns. There is an index on
product_id in each of these tables and 'Explain plan' shows that
both indexes are getting used.
Query Plan
1.23 SELECT STATEMENT Cost = 23 23 RULE
2.1 SORT UNIQUE 23
3.1 NESTED LOOPS 12
4.1 INLIST ITERATOR CONCATENATED
5.1 TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID
YM_PRODUCT 2 ANALYZED
6.1 BITMAP CONVERSION TO ROWIDS
7.1 BITMAP CONVERSION FROM ROWIDS
8.1 INDEX RANGE SCAN PK_YM_PRODUCT
UNIQUE ANALYZED
4.2 TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID
YM_ZONE_DEF 1 ANALYZED
5.1 BITMAP CONVERSION TO ROWIDS
6.1 BITMAP CONVERSION FROM ROWIDS
7.1 SORT ORDER BY
8.1 INDEX RANGE SCAN UNQ1_YM_ZONE_DEF
NON-UNIQUE ANALYZED
13 rows selected.
If I remove the INDEX_COMBINE hint , it gives the proper result.
What could be problem?
Pls help.
Thanks

I suspect index corruption. I have encountered this on 8.0.3 and 8.0.5 on HPUX, and it seems to be that bitmap indexes fail to ist some rows in the table correctly, although your case may be different.
I would suggest trying to rebuild the indexes, or dropping them and recreating them. also look on Oracle's web site for bugs affecting your version.
We found that these corruptions could be identified by a simple few queries ..
select /*+ full(my_table) */ count90) from my_table;
select /*+ index(my_table index1) */ count90) from my_table;
select /*+ index(my_table index2) */ count90) from my_table;
select /*+ index(my_table index3) */ count90) from my_table;
The above queries would yield something like ...
10000 rows
10000 rows
9976 rows
10000 rows
... indicating corruption in index3. By the way, analyze index ... validate did not report problems.

    Can any one give me clue ,how to find out which sub query returns more than one row in the following query .This is why smaller, simpler queries are easier to work with than huge ones - when something like this goes wrong smaller queries are much eaiser to debug. Unfortunately using smaller, easier-to-work with queries is not always an option
    Ganesh is right - you will have to dissect the big query bit by bit until you find the offending subquery. If there is another way I would like to find out about it too.
    The easiest way to do this is probably to use block comments to isolate parts of the query bit by bit until you find the offending part. If you carefully examine the subqueries you might be able to figure out which one is returning multiple rows without commenting everything
    Good luck!

  • Single Sub Row Query Returns More Than 1 Row!

    I am trying to update values in a table from another table and getting the error: Single Sub Row Query Returns More Than 1 Row.
    I want table B's PRV_NAME updated into table A's PRV_NAME where A.PRVID = B.PRVID where B.PRV_TYPE = M'
    Both tables have all unique PRVID's, however, table B has PRVID's that have the same name. So table B data can look like this:
    PRVID PRV_NAME
    1234 PHOENIX MED
    1235 SAC MED
    1236 SAC MED
    1237 OVERLAND
    etc..
    So, as you can see the PRVID's are unique, but not the PRV_NAME's. Is this the reason why I get this error?
    I did not build the tables and have no control over what is put in them. If this is the reason for the error, is there any way to resolve this?
    For reference, here is the query. Maybe there is something wrong with this?
    update msb_prv_source ps
    set ps.prv_name =
    (select prv00.prv00_prv_name
    from prv00_prv prv00
    join msb_prv_source ps
    on prv00.prv00_prv_id = ps.prvid
    where prv00.prv00_prv_type = 'M')

    I want table B's PRV_NAME updated into table A's PRV_NAME where A.PRVID = B.PRVID
    Both tables have all unique PRVID's, however, table B has PRVID's that have the same name. So table B data can look like this:
    PRVIDIf b.prvid is really unique, then
    UPDATE  a
    SET     prv_name = (
                     SELECT  prv_name
                     FROM    b
                     WHERE   a.prvid     = b.prvid
    ;should work, whether the other columns are unique or not.
    (Depending on your data and your requirements, you might want to use MERGE rather than UPDATE).
    I hope this answers your question.
    If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all the tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
    In the case of a DML operation (such as UPDATE) the sample data should show what the tables are like before the DML, and the results will be the contents of the changed table(s) after the DML.
    Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
    Always say what version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.2.0).

    I see you've posted your code now:
    update msb_prv_source ps
    set ps.prv_name =
    (select prv00.prv00_prv_name
    from prv00_prv prv00
    join msb_prv_source ps
    on prv00.prv00_prv_id = ps.prvid
    where prv00.prv00_prv_type = 'M')Even if ps.prvid is unique, the sub-query can return more than 1 row if prv00.prv00_prv_id is not unique. When that that's the case, what do you want to happen? Include examples when you post the sample data and desired results.

  • SQL Query does not have all rows in ResultSet

    I am using JDK 1.4.2 and an MS Access 2000 database where I attempt to retrieve data and I get in the ResultSet a maximum of around 280 rows, but there are more that seem to be ignored. In Access I can see them using the same query.
    The Statement.getMaxRows() returns 0 and I do not understand why I do not get the other ones. The query is issued using Statement.executeQuery(String), but using execute() does not make a difference, There is just one ResultSet returned.
    I would appreciate your help.

    I had this same problem once because in my Java code I was connecting to our alpha database and when I was running the query manually I was connecting to our production database.
    The only other thing I can think of that might cause this is if on the 281st row there is something wrong with the row and maybe the SQLException isn't being processed? Can't really say without seeing your code, but if you don't have a printStackTrace() or some indicator when a SQLExcpetion is thrown it could be breaking without your knowing. If those aren't the problems maybe you could post your code.

  • View with outer join results wrong number of rows

    Hi,
    When i run a query on a view it returns 2 rows(2 distinct rows), when i run the same query with the select statement which the view is created , it returns only 1 row. According to data the 1 row result is correct, how come twi results. A coding sample as follows. Any help is most appreciated.
    I have a view created based on a outer join of two views in the format;
    create or replace view view1 as
    select ord.order_no order_no,
    ord.del_type del_type,
    det.qty qty
    from detail_view det, order_view ord
    where det.site(+) = ord.site
    and det.part(+) = ord.part
    and nvl(ord.del_type,'_NULL_') <> 'F'
    with read only;
    detail_view & order_view themselves have several group by/sum and union Alls.
    When i run the query on this view
    [Select * from View1 where order_no = 'A30' And del_type = 'B']
    it returns 2 distinct rows. But when i run the select statement which created the View1 with the query it returns only one row!!
    What did i do wrong?
    Thanks
    Sanjeewa

    I cannot reproduce this :
    SCOTT@LSC01> create table detail_view(qty number,site number,part number);
    Table created.
    SCOTT@LSC01> create table order_view(order_no varchar2(10), del_type varchar2(1), site number,part number);
    Table created.
    SCOTT@LSC01>
    SCOTT@LSC01> create or replace view view1 as
      2  select ord.order_no order_no,

  • Keyboard produces wrong symbols in vista

    I have partitioned my had drive and installed Windows Vista
    only when using windows side of partition the key board produces wrong symbo;s when using four of the keys and shift.
    press shift and the first key in the number row gets a horizontal line with bent down end should be ~
    press shift and number 2 gets " should be @
    press shift and number 3 gets English pound sign should be #
    press shift and quotation commas key gets @ should be "
    I have tried re installing drivers and updated relevant software

    This is what happens to windows, and that is why Apple is much better, the only problem with apple is that their computers are pricey, and most programs in the world is for windows. But Windows is just problem after problem, for example, my Windows XP Pro (In the bottom in green ) died from scandisk, now I am using my friend's 8 year old laptop because of this reason. Windows ME is slow, and cant do anything. So the main point I guess is that, why install Windows leaving your Mac prone to virises, spyware, and other problems, just stick to Mac, and your life is as simple as can be. No crashes, no problems such as this is in a Apple created environment such as OSX.

  • Unable to create report. Query produced too many results

    Hi All,
    Does someone knows how to avoid the message "Unable to create report. Query produced too many results" in Grid Report Type in PerformancePoint 2010. When the mdx query returns large amount of data, this message appears. Is there a way to get all

    Hello,
    I would like you to try the following to adjust your readerquotas.
    Change the values of the parameters listed below to a larger value. We recommend that you double the value and then run the query to check whether the issue is resolved. To do this, follow these steps:
    On the SharePoint 2010 server, open the Web.config file. The file is located in the following folder:
    \Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Web Services\PpsMonitoringServer\
    Locate and change the the below values from 8192 to 16384.
    Open the Client.config file. The file is located in the following folder:
    \Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\WebClients\PpsMonitoringServer\
    Locate and change the below values from 8192 to 16384.
    After you have made the changes, restart Internet Information Services (IIS) on the SharePoint 2010 server.
    <readerQuotas
    maxStringContentLength="2147483647"
    maxNameTableCharCount="2147483647"
    maxBytesPerRead="2147483647"
    maxArrayLength="2147483647"

  • SQL Query (PL/SQL Function Body returning SQL query) doesn't return any row

    I have a region with the following type:
    SQL Query (PL/SQL Function Body returning SQL query).
    In a search screen the users can enter different numbers, separated by an ENTER.
    I want to check these numbers by replacing the ENTER, which is CHR(13) || CHR(10) I believe, with commas. And then I can use it like this: POD IN (<<text>>).
    It's something like this:
    If (:P30_POD Is Not Null) Then
    v_where := v_where || v_condition || 'POD IN (''''''''||REPLACE(''' || :P30_POD || ''', CHR(13) || CHR(10), '','')||'''''''''')';
    v_condition := ' AND ';
    End If;
    But the query doesn't return any rows.
    I tried to reproduce it in Toad:
    select * from asx_worklistitem
    where
    POD IN (''''||REPLACE('541449200000171813'||CHR(13) || CHR(10)||'541449206006341366', CHR(13) || CHR(10), ''',''')||'''')
    ==> This is the query that does't return any rows
    select (''''||REPLACE('541449200000171813'||CHR(13) || CHR(10)||'541449206006341366', CHR(13) || CHR(10), ''',''')||'''')
    from dual;
    ==> This returns '541449200000171813','541449206006341366'
    select * from asx_worklistitem
    where pod in ('541449200000171813','541449206006341366');
    ==> and when I copy/paste this in the above query, it does return my rows.
    So why does my first query doesn't work?
    Doe anyone have any idea?
    Kind regards,
    Geert

    Thanks for the help.
    I made it work, but via the following code:
    If (:P30_POD Is Not Null) Then
    v_pods := REPLACE(:P30_POD, CHR(13) || CHR(10));
    v_where := v_where || v_condition || 'POD IN (';
    v_counter := 1;
    WHILE (v_counter < LENGTH(v_pods)) LOOP
    v_pod := SUBSTR(v_pods, v_counter, 18);
    IF (v_counter <> 1) THEN
    v_where := v_where || ',';
    END IF;
    v_where := v_where || '''' || v_pod || '''';
    v_counter := v_counter + 18;
    END LOOP;
    v_where := v_where || ')';
    v_condition := ' AND ';
    End If;But now I want to make an update of all the records that correspond to this search criteria. I can give in a status via a dropdownlist and that I want to update all the records that correspond to one of these POD's with that status.
    For a region you can build an SQL query via PL/SQL, but for a process you only have a PL/SQL block. Is the only way to update all these records by making a loop and make an update for every POD that is specified.
    Because I think this will have a lot of overhead.
    I would like to make something like a multi row update in an updateable report, but I want to specify the status from somewhere else. Is this possible?

  • Exists (SQL query returns at least one row) condition with MAX on 10.2.0.4

    I just wanted to note this on the forum..
    I'm using Apex 3.0.1.00.08
    My DEV environment has just been upgraded from 10g version 10.2.0.2.0 to 10.2.0.4.0.
    I created the following process to select some values into some items on my Form page.
    select  MAX(STAT_YEAR+1)
          , pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id
    into    :P11_STAT_YEAR
          , :P11_PCT_ID
          , :P11_STAT_TYPE_ID
          , :P11_STAT_PERIOD_TYPE_ID
          , :P11_MEASUREMENT_ID
    from  plant_commodity_data pcd
        , stat_type stt
    where pcd.STAT_TYPE_ID = stt.STAT_TYPE_ID
      and pcd.pct_id = :P0_PCT_ID
      and stt.stat_type = 'PRD'
    group by pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id;The process should run conditionally if there was at least one row to select...
    So I copied the SQL into the Process condition, removed the "into" section and set the condition type to be "Exists (SQL query retruns at least one row) ...
    select  MAX(STAT_YEAR+1)
          , pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id
    from  plant_commodity_data pcd
        , stat_type stt
    where pcd.STAT_TYPE_ID = stt.STAT_TYPE_ID
      and pcd.pct_id = :P0_PCT_ID
      and stt.stat_type = 'PRD'
    group by pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id;This worked perfectly until the DEV environment was upgraded from 10g version 10.2.0.2.0 to 10.2.0.4.0.
    The condition would fire even if there were no rows returning.
    I pasted the condition code into SQL Developer connected to the DEV (10.2.0.4.0) environment and it returned no rows.
    To solve the problem, I removed the MAX.
    You can test this using this code if you have access to the two versions... select  MAX(1)
          , sysdate
          , 'Gus'
    from  dual
    where 1 = 2
    group by sysdate, 2Now I know the MAX isn't required in the condition as I'm just trying to find out if any rows exist, but it was there as I copied the code in... I was just wondering why this happened between 10.2.0.2.0 and 10.2.0.4.0?
    Gus..

    Hi Gus,
    try to execute
    select count(*) from dual where exists (select  MAX(1)
          , sysdate
          , 'Gus'
    from  dual
    where 1 = 2
    group by sysdate, 2)in SQL Developer. The above statement is generated by APEX for an "Exists (SQL query retruns at least one row)". Can't test it, because I don't have a 10.2.0.4.0 at hand.
    Does SQL Developer now show the same behavior?

  • Named query creates wrong cast: CAST (? AS VARCHAR(32672))

    Hello!
    I'am working with Toplink on DB2 - which works great, so far - but now I face the following problem:
    A named query produces the following sql-code:
    ... WHERE (SAMPLEFIELDNAME = CAST (? AS VARCHAR(32672) ))
    The problem ist the cast: the data-base-fieldtype is a VARCHAR(255) so get an SQL-Exception. I can't change the database-schema, because this is legacy-stuff. I tried a lot (columnDefinition and length in @Column-annotation seem to be ignored at all) - but nothing worked.
    Thank you!
    Siegfried

    Hi,
    The DB2 Platform hard coded the casting of Strings to VARCHAR(32672) in the oracle.toplink.platform.database.DB2Platform class' writeParameterMarker method. So if the type is set to a String class on the argument, it will always be cast to VARCHAR(32672). You will need to override the writeParameterMarker method on a custom platform (extending DB2Platform) in such a way that if a string is given, VARCHAR(255) is used instead. That is, assuming all your strings are of size 255.
    Best Regards,
    Chris

  • SQL job running DTEXEC.EXE via PowerShell step produces wrong characters in result tables. Running the same DTEXEC.EXE in PowerShell x86 window produces correct results.

    I've created a package in SSDT (Visual Studio 2012) to import DBF tables into MSSQL 2014 via a wizard.
    Source DBF files contain tables with Russian (Cyrillic) characters in records fields.
    Created package works fine, produces correct results (imports Cyrillic characters as needed) while:
    •debugging in VS2012
    •deploying package in SSISDB and running the package via PowerShell x86:
    &"c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\120\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /Server "server\mssql2014" /ISServer "\SSISDB\import\Integration Services Project16\Package1.dtsx";
    But when I create a SQL Agent job with a single PowerShell step that contains the same command and run the job it produces wrong characters in resulting tables. So, the problem is in wrong code page (or encoding). The correct tables with records are
    produced and job runs without errors.
    I tried
    chcp 1251; # 855, 866 -- all of them
    &"c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\120\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /Server "server\mssql2014" /ISServer "\SSISDB\import\Integration Services Project16\Package1.dtsx";
    in SQL Agent PowerShell step, but with no positive result.
    Anyone encountered such a behavior? How to fix it?

    What if you run this package without PowerShell?

  • Query results:every other record/row grey and white

    Hello guys,
    query results:every other record/row grey and white
    how would you make every other record/rows a different color
    just like the forums color. Lightest grey and white?
    <cfquery name="Myqueryname"

    There is a cool tool in Coldfusion called MOD
    This basically calculates the remainder of the row number
    when divided.
    I interpreted its use to something like this, which has
    worked for me.
    <cfoutput query="qry_requestedlist" maxrows="30"
    startrow="1">
    <cfset EvenRow=#CurrentRow# +1>
    <cfif CurrentRow Mod 2 IS 1>
    <tr>
    <th class="grey" CurrentRow#</th>
    <cfelse>
    <th class="white">#CurrentRow#</th>
    <tr>
    </cfif>
    </cfoutput>
    I doubt this is precisely what you want but this is the sort
    of thing.

  • I need to print one query result as a single row

    Hi,
    I need to print one query result as a single row ,which gives more than one value (of subinventories)and also i would like to print the quantity of that particular subinventory at particular place.Please suggest how can i do this in the report builder?

    Actually I need to print inventory report with subinventory break up.For that all subinventories of category code AB are taken as single row.Based on that subinventory value Quantity must be printed at that particular place.
    For ex
    Quantity
    Item no Description Subinventory Code AB_Abc AB_Def AB_ghi
    1 ***** 12 9
    2 ****** 8 5
    like that.I am waiting for the reply.Plz its some how urgent.
