  • BIBean poor performance when using Query.setSuppressRows()

Does anyone have experience in suppressing N/A cell values using BIBean? I was experimenting the use of Query.setSuppressRows(DataDirector.NA_SUPPRESSION). It does hide the rows that contains N/A values in a crosstab.
The problem is that the performance degrades significantly when I started drilling down the hierarchy. Without calling the method, I was able to drill into the pre-aggregated hierarchy in a few seconds. But with setSuppressRows(), it took almost 15 minutes to do the same drill.
Just for a comparison, I used DML to report on the same data that I wanted to drill into. With either 'zerorow' to yes or no, the data was fetched less than a second.
    Thanks for any help.

At the moment we are hoping this will be fixed in a 10g database patch which is due early 2005. However, if you are using an Analytic Workspace then you could use OLAP DML to filter the zero and NA rows before they are returned to the query. I think this involves modifying the OLAP views that return the AW objects via SQL commands.
    Hope this helps

  • Internal errors during Query Builder

Please help me to correct a problem. Database user has a very simple cube: a measure with two dimensions. User (named "warehouse") owns it, the fact table, the dimension tables etc.; client application connects using warehouse account too.
While QueryBuilder makes a data source, one dimension (providers) fails at the some selections; for example, selections "top 10" and "last 3" works, but selection "measure value > 10000" fails; the other dimension (services) works great with all selections tried.
"Fails" means that selection step can be selected (moved from "available" to "selected" box), but cannot be configured (edited) at any manner, both in the left and right boxes - for example, I cannot edit value "10000". This selection cannot be applied too. Visually query builder does nothing, but prints exception trace (see below).

  • How do i show descriptions instead of dimensions at BIBeans ?

We are facing a problem that could be a BIBeans problem or could be an OLAP problem, please inform if to change forum:
We are using jdev 903/BIB903 accessing an AW created at Oracle OLAP 9205 with AWM.
All our dimensions were created at OWB 10g and deployed to RDBMS following the general rules below:
    DIM X
    ID_X - sequence primary key
CD_X - original key from source systems
DS_X, NM_X, and so on - description fields and hierarchy fields related to this record.
    i.e.:
    SQL> desc dim_rota
    Name Null? Type
    ID_ROTA NOT NULL NUMBER(6)
    CD_EMPRESA NOT NULL NUMBER(2)
    CD_FILIAL NOT NULL NUMBER(2)
    CD_ROTA NOT NULL VARCHAR2(3)
    NM_FILIAL NOT NULL VARCHAR2(40)
    NM_ROTA NOT NULL VARCHAR2(30)
    CD_SETOR NOT NULL VARCHAR2(1)
    ID_SETOR NOT NULL NUMBER(6)
    NM_SETOR NOT NULL VARCHAR2(30)
this dimension has 1 hierarchy with 2 levels called SETOR and ROTA.
when we generated the AW using AWM, each field (except ID) is created as a variable dimensioned by DIM_ROTA, as shown below:
    ->listby dim_rota
35 objects dimensioned by or related to DIM_ROTA in analytic workspace AW1
    DIM_ROTA_CD_EMPRESA
    DIM_ROTA_CD_FILIAL
    DIM_ROTA_CD_ROTA
    DIM_ROTA_CD_SETOR
    DIM_ROTA_CREATEDBY
    DIM_ROTA_FAMILYREL
    DIM_ROTA_GID
    DIM_ROTA_INHIER
    DIM_ROTA_LEVELCOLMAP
    DIM_ROTA_LEVELREL
    DIM_ROTA_NM_FILIAL
    DIM_ROTA_NM_ROTA
    DIM_ROTA_NM_SETOR
    DIM_ROTA_ORDER
    DIM_ROTA_PARENTREL
ID field was concatenated with level name to generate the dimension value - so, for the following relational record:
    SQL> select id_rota, cd_rota, nm_rota from dim_rota where ID_ROTA = 233;
    ID_ROTA CD_ROTA NM_ROTA
    233 A99 A99-Consig. Sup. Setor A
    we have at multidimensional side:
    ->LIMIT DIM_ROTA TO 'ROTA.233'
    ->rpr dim_rota
    DIM_ROTA
    ROTA.233
    ->dsc dim_rota_nm_rota
    DEFINE DIM_ROTA_NM_ROTA VARIABLE TEXT <DIM_ROTA DIM_ROTA_HIERLIST ALL_LANGUAGES>
LD IMPLEMENTATION NM_ROTA Attribute for DIM_ROTA Dimension
    ->rpr down dim_rota w 30 dim_rota_nm_rota
    ALL_LANGUAGES: AMERICAN_AMERICA
    -------DIM_ROTA_NM_ROTA-------
    ------DIM_ROTA_HIERLIST-------
    DIM_ROTA ROTA
    ROTA.233 A99-Consig. Sup. Setor A
here comes our question: how do we show at BIBeans designer/presentations the related descriptive fields and NOT the dimension values themselves?
    thanks in advance,
    Flavio

There a re two additional attributes that need to be mapped within OWB for each dimension:
Long Description - this is used by the presentation beans and query and calc builder to replace the dimension values with more meaningful/end-user friendly descriptions
Short Descriptions - this can be used where the long description is too long for display purposes. In BI Beans 10g Release 2 (due out soon) you will be able to select between long/short descriptions when using many of the new tags.
These new attributes will be automatically picked up by the OLAP Bridge in OWB and automatically added to the OLAP catalog.
    Hope this helps

  • Problems with Query.setSuppressRows(DataDirector.NA_ZERO_SUPPRESSION)

The BI Beans's setSuppress does not work well. This Method often cause some problems.
I created a rational cube and viewed it using jsp's presentation. When I used query.setSuppressRows(DataDirector.NA_ZERO_SUPPRESSION), and then tried to pivot the crosstab BIB-19009 error occured. Without applying the supress method, everything worked properly.
Sometimes the suprress method does not cause errors, but it seriously reduces the performance. A 4-seconds drill operation may takes more than 40 seconds.
Use jdev903+bibean903 and oracle olap 9203. Previously when i using jdev903+bibean903 and oracle olap 9201a the same error occured sometimes.

  • How to use Query in JDeveloper

    Dear all,
    I use Oracle JDeveloper 10g,
In the DesignerModel we can define Graph,Crosstab,Query, etc.
In JSP page I can use the Presentation by drag&drop it.
But I do not know how to use the Query that we have created by GUI through bibeans API.
    Any help is appreciated!
    thanks

It seems that there is nobody meeting the same problem.
    I solved it by myself.
    An thanks.

  • Query edit and calc insert not appearing in servlet, appearing in client

    Hi,
I use Oracle DB version 9.2.0.4 and Jdeveloper 9.0.3 with BI Beans. I generated a client version of my BIBean application from JDeveloper. When I run that, I have options to edit the query and insert calculations. This is good.
But, when I run the servelet version of my application, I do not see the options to edit the query and insert calculations.
Does anyone know what needs to be done to get these options appear on the servlet version?
    Thanks
    Hari

    Hi,
The version of BI Beans you are currently using does not have all the functionality of the Java Client application environment within the HTML environment. Currently, there is no thin HTML Query Builder or Calculation Builder. However, in HTML (JSP, Servlet and UIX) users can access saved selections, created either from JDeveloper and/or a Java Client application, via the presentation tool bar to modify their presentation queries.
The next release of BI Beans, which should be available for download shortly, provides both thin Query and Calculation Builders.
    Hope this helps

  • No dimensions available for selection in Query Wizard

Good afternoon. I have created some presentations in JDeveloper and am quite happy with the results thus far. However, I recently began working with Reports and have stumbled across an error for which I may be responsible.
I had no problems whatsoever in JDeveloper. When trying to create a query in Reports, there are no dimensions available for selection, only measures. I researched this somewhat and ran across the statement in the OLAP API docs that states the creation of 'measure folders' in the OLAP DB is necessary in order for that information to become avaiable elsewhere.
I believe this hypothesis is correct because (please ocrrect me if I am wrong) JDeveloper uses JDBC to connect with OLAP by default. However, I believe that Reports uses the OLAP API.
The reason I am not 100% certain that this is the culprit, is the fact that I am still able to see the measures; just that when I select the measures, there are no dimensions associated with them (which thereby prohibits me from proceeding in setting up the query).
Has anyone else seen this behavior, and is it caused by not having measure folders setup? Thanks.
    -Jeff Trudeau

Np. I am running the 9.0.3.4 maintenance release of JDeveloper and the corresponding release of BIBeans. As for Reports, I am running the version that was included with the latest 9i Developer Suite (release 2). I am not aware that a more recent version of Reports has been released.
I am running a 9i database with the latest patches. Again, JDeveloper with BIBeans is working fine, but the problem lies in setting up a query in Reports. Thanks for the help.

  • Dynamic Querying

    Hello,
I am new to the forum as well as to using JDeveloper. My project requires me to create queries dynamically as per the client's needs in order to access the data from the DataWare house.
    Thanks in advance...

    hi,
Thanks for responding to my question, I would like to know how can i create a jsp page such that the user has the privilege to choose all the permutations possible to form a query to the datawarehouse.I mean the query conditions should not be restricted to a few in number but the conditions should be set by the user and that should be take in as a query to the Datawarehouse. I am trying to develop a web page which will have the bibeans embedded in it.

  • Displaying non-level determining dimension attributes in bibeans with cwm2

In the bibdemo example (defined using the CWM API), the attributes PROD_COLOR and PROD_SIZE are defined as dimension attributes of the Product dimension. They are then available to bibeans applications for use in the query editor/match condition (as where clauses e.g. where Size = LARGE).
When I define OLAP metadata objects using the CWM2 API, my non-level determining dimension attributes are not available in the bibeans query editor.
Has any one exprienced this problem? Is there a work-around or code fragment that explains how to get dimension attributes defined using CWM2 to work in bibeans apps.

basically there are list and hierarchical dimensions.
the first type doesnt have a hierarchy, so some sort of special case of the 2nd.
i used attributes on list dimensions successfully in the past.
the only thing i had to do is nevertheless define a "artificial" level.
let me know if you need more,

A list appears of all the available measures and asscociated dimensions that can be used.
I scroll down the list and sure enough my 7 dimensional measure is available.
I select it and it places it the Right Box. I see a tree structure that shows me the measure
and it's associated Dimensions and their heirarchies.
    Step 3:
I cick on Next, then I enter the Layout page.
The layout initally has 5 page dims, 1 across dim and 1 down dims. I can re-orientate the tiles to manipulate the layout with no problems
Now when I press next I hit a big problem
The wizard errors with the following problem
BIB-9509 Oracle OLAP did not create cursor.
    oracle.express.ExpressServerExceptionError class: OLAPI
    Server error descriptions:
DPR: Unable to create server cursor, Generic at TxsOqDefinitionManager::createCursorManager[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

PART 2 of the text below ------------------------------
I re -tried all of the above with 1,2 and 3 dimensional measures and I had no problems whatsoever. I was able to complete the query and select the appropriate dimension values.
The dimensional information is held in an Analytic workspace. I have created the correct Relational Views using OLAP TABLE and registered these views using the CWM2 packages, so they be viewed by BIBEANS/JDeveloper.
Can anybody help me from the BIBEANS team thank you
I have installed latest production JDEV and Bibeans 9.0.3.1035 and Oracle 9.2.0.2 with all the
    appropriate patches.

  • BIBeans on WinNT - killer of previously working OLAP samples?

I installed JDeveloper 9i RC and BiBeans RC. I applied all the latest OLAP patches and started working on BiBeans tutorial. I installed the demo database bibdemo schema and started creating OLAP connection required by Designer wizard. As other people already posted, the connection won't work until upcoming OLAP Patch for WinNT/2000.
So I tried to go back to my previously working OLAP samples (generated from OLN OLAP API Fundamentals class) and noticed that they didn't work any more.
Here is the output of the sample program:
    **** Obtained CORBA stub for /etc/OLAPServer/OLAPServer1 ****
**** OLAP Services connection start ****
**** OLAP Services connection made ****
    *** Metadata provider created ***

Process exited with exit code 1.
The line that generates the exception is:
    MdmSchema root = mdp.getRootSchema();
I noticed that installing BIBDEMO sample schema removed the old SH measures and cubes. I tried changing the user/pwd from SH to BIBDEMO and got the same error.
What's causing the problem. Can I easily undo the BIBDEMO changes and make the OLAP API samples work again. Or am I stuck waiting for the upcoming OLAP Patch?
    /Stan

    Hi Stan
Can you tell us exactly what you did?
What versions of the Beans and Oracle9i OLAP did you have first?
What version of the OLAP patch did you install?
What OS are you using? I initially installed Oracle 9i Database for MS Windows NT/2000 from CD-ROM (version 9.0.1). I have also installed JDeveloper 3.2.3 from an accompanying CD-ROM. I don't remember if BI Beans existed in that release, probably not.
Then I downloaded JDeveloper 9i RC and BIBeans AddIn for JDeveloper. I installed the following patches:
    - Oracle9i Patch Set Version 9.0.1.2.0,
    - Oracle OLAP Release 1 Patch Set Version 9.0.1.1.1,
    - Oracle OLAP Best Practices for Cube Aggregation and Query Operations Release 1 (9.0.1) for Windows and UNIX, Part Number A92122-01,
    - XADEMO.BAT for Oracle OLAP.
I'm using Windows NT 4 with SP 6a.
I have also re-installed the SH_CAT schema as you suggested in the other note, but that didn't make the problem go away. I'm still getting MetadataNotFoundException when calling mdp.getRootSchema().

  • Can't dynamically bind Request var to ViewObjectLink SQL (for BIBean Graph)

Can anybody pleaaaase help? I'm trying to get a graph done with JSP and a BI Bean. I have got the graph working just fine, based on an unfiltered query of the ViewObjectLink. However, have not been able to figure out how to dynamically add and alter the criteria of the underlying ViewObjectLink query.
My research has found numerous references to the setWhereClause() and setWhereClauseParam() functions. I've placed setWhereClause() and setWhereClauseParam() calls in the constructor of the ViewObjectLink. But I always get exceptions :
JBO-30003: The application pool (test_16.AppModuleLocal) failed to checkout an application module due to the following exception:
    oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: oracle.jbo.JboException, msg=
    JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught:
    oracle.jbo.InvalidObjAccessException, msg=
JBO-25036: An invalid object operation was invoked on type View Object with name FaVGetDueDatePcCtab2ViewImpl_120
    Any and all help appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    John.

    Thanks Keith.
It's a question of how one sets and accesses the query datasource of the ViewObject which underlies and populates a BIBeans graph.
I don't see how one binds criteria value(s) to the parameter placeholder(s) in the ViewObject object.
For example, the Query property of my ViewObject is:
    SELECT FaVGetDueDatePcCtab2.PC0,
    FaVGetDueDatePcCtab2.PC1,
    FaVGetDueDatePcCtab2.PC2
    FROM FA$V$GET$DUE$DATE$PC$CTAB2 FaVGetDueDatePcCtab2
    The Where Clause propery is:
    WHERE FaVGetDueDatePcCtab2.PC2 IN (?, ?, ?)
What wizard or method or means is used to bind the '?' placeholders with actual values?
Or do you think this is more a question for the Forms/Reports forum?

  • AW access through BiBeans 903

    Hi there,
When the 9.2.0.1A patch does eventually come out for the Windows Platform will I :
    1) be able to hook into and read analytical workspaces using BIBeans and the OLAP API
    2) be able to develop applications which write data to Analytical Workspaces.
I had a play around with the Bi Beans tutorial for 9i Rel 1, but I was only able to view cubes set up in in the relational database.

    Hi,
Sorry for taking some time to reply. Here are some answers to your questions:
    1) Will I be able to hook into and read analytical workspaces using BIBeans and the OLAP API?
Yes, in order to make AW data available to BI Beans, you need to perform following steps:
    - create SQL access to the AW data using the OLAP table function. This is documented in the Oracle9i Rel 2 OLAP User's Guide
    - create metadata as described in the above mentioned guide. You can create it by hand or use the cwm2_olap_aw_access packages, or write your views from scratch
Currently, the only way to do this is by scripts, but I understand there will be a tool called AW Manager available in a few months.
    2) Will I be able to develop applications which write data to Analytical Workspaces?
I've gotten following reply for you:
There is a GridView boolean property, CellEditingAllowed, which controls whether the Crosstab or Table Beans provide cell-level editing GUI in the Databody. For example, if you have a Crosstab instance m_crosstab, you can run the following code to turn on editing:
    m_crosstab.setCellEditingAllowed(true);
The BI Beans implementation of the OLAP Data Source provides a DataAccess implementation that implements setValue (and submitChanges, dropChanges, etc.)
If you know that you are working with our OLAP implementation, then you can retrieve the Crosstab's DataSource property (of type oracle.dss.util.dataSource), cast it to an oracle.dss.dataSource.common.Query instance (i.e., our OLAP implementation), and then add yourself as a QueryListener. The QueryListener will get a CellsSubmittingEvent with the list of updates to be processed.
You'll find the various classes and interfaces in the oracle.dss.dataSource.common package.
