Querying from two different databases

Hi All,
I have a Adhoc requirement where in i have to do a select from two tables, but one of them resides on a different database.
The tables have a common primary key, so i can do a one to one match. Is there anyway to query them without using a DB link?

I think - if u create a global synonym using that dblink - next time u can use that synonym and u don't have to use any dblink further.

Currently as we all know that APEX Application resides in database and is connected to the schema of that database.
I want APEX Application to be running and accessing data from two different databases. Elaborating my question,
Currently, my APEX Production Application is connected with XXXX Schema of DB1 Database(Where APEX Resides). Now I want to add some pages into this APEX Application for REPORT Purpose, But I want to connect this REPORT APEX Pages to get data from Different Schema YYYY for Database DB2.
Is it possible to configure this scenario?
The reason for doing this is to avoid the REPORT related (adhoc queries) resource utilization effect on Production DB1 Database.

1. If you do the joining of two or more tables in DB1 then all data is pulled over to DB1 and then the join is executed: so more data over the databaselink and more work for DB1. Better keep the joining stuff where the data resides and just pull exactly that data over that you need.
2. Don't know about your different block sizes. Seems a nice question for one of the other forums (DBA or SQL).
3. I mean create synonyms on DB1 for reports VIEWS in DB2.

Table transformation from two different database

I am trying to load table from one database table to another database table in ODI 10g.I have created two physical and logical topology.
But when in interface design i have drag the source and target tables in the diagram window, but here it doesnot shows the auto mapping options, when i try it manually by dragging a field, i have failed. when i execute the operation the following error occured:

here both the source and target db are same..

I am connecting two database from two different hosts, both are in oracle.
I have two logical schema prepared for both database.
should i have to mentioned these schema in one physical topology? what should be placed in schema and work schema option.
I have used LKM Oracle to Oracle(DBLINK) as KM.

I am having two different tables A and B. I want to select all rows containing the names like the rows in B.
I have tried the below and it does not work:
select * from A where name like (select '%'||name||'%' from B).

Joining tables from two different databases

Hi,
I am trying to join W_DAY_D from 1 database to another 2 database to the fact table . The datatype for CALENDER _DTis (DATE) from W_DAY_D and the Create date from fact table is TIMESTAMP . I changed the the datatype in the phyiscal layer for CREATE DATE from the fact table to DATE and joined it with W_DAY_D (Calender_DT = create_date) Thought the rpd showed me no errors while saving it . But when I try adding the column in the report it throws me error
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 46008] Internal error: File server\Utility\Server\DataType\SUKeyCompare.cpp, line 772. (HY000)

I tried this ealier but it throws me an Invaild expression error. In the Physical Foreign key join

LOV from Two Different Databases?

Hey all,
I'm relatively new to the ADF world, so I may be missing something obvious.
I've got two adf bc model projects, one connecting to an Oracle database and a second one connecting to a SQL Server 2005 database.
What I'd like to do is populate a column in my Oracle model from a LOV in the SQL Server model. Is this possible? I'm assuming I have to define the relationship in my UI project but I haven't had much luck yet. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm using JDeveloper 11g.

Hi Graham,
The database on which you base your queries (View Objects) depends on the application module. So one simple way would be to add the VO which gets you your list of values into the Application Module pointing at the SQL Server database. Have another application module pointing at your Oracle Database and define the model LOV's the [normal way|http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/adfbc_new_features/adfbc.html#t2s3].

I have some data in DB_Instance1 running on[b] Weblogic_Server1 and I need to insert the same data into DB_instance2 running on Weblogic_server2. Is it possible. Could some explain me how to do that..

Hi Rick,
Try logging onto both Server first. You'll have to use either 2 separate ODBC DSN's or 2 separate OLE DB connections. Set them both for Trusted Authentication, you'll have to configure that on the Server also.Then try your query.
If that doesn't work then you'll have to create a Stored Procedure or View that can link the 2 Server side.

How to create Analysis from two different subject areas with diff models

I have problem with create analysis from two different areas with two different models (Model Star and Snowflakes) build in BI Admin tools.
First Model A = Subject Area A have one fact tables (with measures) and three dimensions tables (Model Star)
Second Model B = Subject Area B have one fact table (no measures) and five dimensions tables (Model Snowflakes).
I'm looking solutions how I can give good results. In this case I can't use UNION, INTERSECT etc., because this models haven't the same number column and data type?
whether it is possible to do in OBIEE?

Hi
One thing to understand is that if your are imagining having two Subject Areas (SAs) displayed and then dragging columns from each into your Request without any preparation, then no, that can't be done. You would need to do a join in the BMM layer and expose the column from the second Subject Area in the presentation layer.
But if you indeed interested in UNION (or intersect) queries, then do this:
Build your first query in the first SA in the usual manner. Note the number of columns and the data types of each column.
Now at the bottom of the Criteria workspace, there is a button called "Combine with similar request." Click it.
Select your second SA. You will note that the outlines of the columns in your first query appear. This is to remind you that the number of columns in this second query must be the same as in the first. It also shows the data type of each column for the same reason.
Once you select your columns and your filters, click on result. (Oh, you will also need to decide what kind of combination you want -- click on the dropdown.) The result will be a new Request that has data from both SAs in the query and combined in the manner you select (union, intersect, etc.)
That should give you a start.

Getting DISTINCT count from two different columns

I have following query which gives currency code from two different tables. I would like to get the distinct count of currency codes from these two different columns.
SELECT eb.person_seq_id, eb.bonus_amount, eb.currency_cd, ed.currency_cd_host
FROM fr_emp_bonuses eb, fr_emp_details ed, fr_periods p
WHERE eb.person_seq_id = ed.person_seq_id AND ed.period_seq_id = eb.period_seq_id
AND ed.period_seq_id = p.period_seq_id AND p.period_status = 'CURRENT'
AND eb.bonus_amount >= 0 AND eb.person_seq_id = 3525125;
This query gives following result
3525125     240000     USD     INR
3525125     0      USD     INR
3525125     60000      USD     INR
3525125     50000      USD     INR
There are two distinct currency codes (USD, INR) and total amount is 350000. So I am looking for a query to give me the following result
3525125     350000 2

The tricky thing is getting two columns (currency_cd and currencuy_cd_host in this case) counted together. You can't simply say
COUNT (DISTINCT eb.currency_cd) +
COUNT (DISTINCT ed.currency_code_host)That happens to get the correct result with the sample data you posted, but what if you had data like thEe following?
currency_cd     currency_cd_host
INR          USD
USD          INRHere, the count of distinct currency_cds is 2, and the count of distinct currency_cd_hsots is also 2. Does that mean the grand total is 2 + 2 = 4? No, the 2 codes in one column arte the same 2 codes as in the other column. We need to get both currency_cd and currency_cd_hsot into the same column, and then do COUNT (DISTINCT ...) on that combined column. A UNION, as shown above, will certainly do that, starting with your query as you posted it. The query you posted isn't necessarily the best frist step towards this result, however, so there may be a much better approach, depending on your tables.

Executing the SQL query across 2 different databases of Oracle

In Microsoft SQL server we can execute following type of SQL query across 2 different databases:
select * from TEST1.dbo.GENERIC_TABLE1 union select * from TEST2.dbo.GENERIC_TABLE2;
Here TEST1 and TEST2 are 2 different databases.
Can we do the same in Oracle?

yes you can, but first one has to setup a database link
Look up CREATE DATABASE LINK and then take things from there!

Synch Between Tables in Two different Databases

Synch between Two Tables in two different Databases.
I have two identical tables, table T1 in Database D1 and table T1 in Database D2. User can insert/update/delete/select from both of these tables in respective databases. Being said that how can keep them in Synch? Any thing added/modified/deleted should reflect in other. We like this to be Real-Time.
We are thinking of creating a cross (two way) DB link between them and then update/insert/delete both the tables when changing one. Any suggestions?

One of my colleagues used snapshot in their previous projects, but he told me that the performance of it wind down while the records in tables increase. I have no idea about the exact situation, but I'm believing we'd think twice about it.

Comparing Tables In Two Different Databases

As part of our project, we need to perform table comparisons in two different databases. I am currently looking for various options to accomplish this.
One of them is doing minus operation between these two tables.
Also, i have looked at the data compare option in toad utility.
