Quest for *THE* feed reader

If there's something with which I can never get satisfied, it's surely RSS readers/aggregators/whatever. We can divided them in two big groups:
Web-based: These are the ones like Google Reader or Bloglines. They run (or at least they should) 24/7, so they don't have a problem I'll describe in the Desktop-based readers, but they feel slow. It may be that they're not really slower than their local conterparts, but they do feel slower.
Desktop-based: Ah!, nothing beats the speed of running apps locally. But in my case, I don't have a RSS Reader running 24/7, so let me use our beloved xkcd feed to explain the problem:
Xkcd's feed shows only the last 4 entries. If I've stayed at home, I would receive 6 entries in a two-week period, but let's say I traveled for these two weeks. When I come back and turn on my RSS reader, I'll only have 4 entries. This is a problem that I guess it doesn't happen with Web-based readers (I may be wrong, though, it's been a long time since I used them).
We can narrow the problem a little more if we divide the Desktop-based feeders in two categories:
- text/ncurses based: lightweight, but lacks some functionality (e.g. snownwes)
- graphical: very good feature-wise, but are bigger (e.g. liferea).
So... any thoughts about this? An online service that would store the feeds for you 24/7 and then you could retrive them with a local app would be interesting, something that would be to feeds as IMAP is to mails. Is there such a thing?

Ahh.. the rss reader.. the holy grail.
my wishes:
- under my control (eg no webservices)
- clean file formats (no gconf, preferrably no xml, just a simple config file)
- gtk but keyboard driven
- html support
- don't miss stuff.  (a cli-based program/script that can fetch in the background (eg daemon or crontab on a server), and a gtk program to display them would be ideal for me)
- good "i have already read this" tracking
- low dependencies.
- xdg basedir compliance
- no bloat, gconf or xulrunner (byebye liferea, blam)
I'm now using the rssyl plugin in claws-mail, but:
- html not always rendered correctly (though it uses webkit. not sure where the problem is)
- alt tags don't work (not good if you follow xkcd)
- only one "profile" possible. (i would like to have different config files, eg one with feeds for work, one for personal etc)

  • X121e: Driver for the fingerprint reader

    Hello,
I purchased a X121e notebook at Lenovo directly; it's of type 3045-CTO and has a fingerprint reader.
I installed Windws 7 x64 from scratch and loaded all drivers, but I can't find the driver for the fingerprint reader on the driver download website.
Please, could someone help me to find this driver / software?
    Many thanks.

    Hi saxa,
Download and run System Update and it should find your driver.  Read the directions. You'll need MS Net.Framework to make it work.
See if there is anything in the bios under the security settings for turning on the fingerprint reader.  Make sure it's on if there is.

  • Is there a Multi-Language Dictionary ad-on for the Adobe Reader for Windows 8?

Is there a Multi-Language Dictionary ad-on for the Adobe Reader for Windows 8

Which product are you referring to?  Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8 (Windows Store app with "Modern" UI) or Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI)?
Adobe Reader Touch does not use any add-ons.
Adobe Reader XI Spelling Dictionary Pack can be downloaded from this page:

  • Quest for the Ultra-Quiet PSU

Is anyone prepared to swear by any particular unit?
I can only speak to the Corsair HX1050 Gold, and while it's quiet enough on low-load tasks, there's no mistaking it for "whisper quiet" when playing video.  Depending on background noise levels and whether audio is playing, that noise may not be noted.  By its an unmistakable engine when playing HD video in a quiet room without an audio track.  The source appears to be the PSU fan, and the sound insulation in the case doesn't appear to be much help.
    How typical is this?

See the following noise curve from Newegg for the HX1050:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139034
And here is one for the new, very configurable, and pretty expensive AX1200i (I have theAX1200 which does not have the user configurable load vs. fan speed capability):
    http://www.corsair.com/power-supply-units/ax-series-power-supply-units/ax1200i-digital-atx -power-supply-1200-watt-80-plus-platinum-certified-fully-modular-psu.html
So, let's say you are really pulling 450 watts.
For the AX1200i you would be at 37.5% load and from the chart, 10db (pretty darn quiet)
For your HX1050, you would be 43% loaded and from the chart at about 25db; every 3db of sound level makes a significant difference, so 15db is certainly substantial
Their charts show fan speed per load, but I'm pretty sure the fan speed is actually thermostatically controlled, so if the inlet for your p/s is getting warm air, it will be running faster for a given load.
My p/s is pulling air from underneath the case so it is the same temperature as the room. If yours is configured with the inlet from inside the case, then that air will indeed be warmer. For my Coolermaster case, I can choose which way the p/s is installed; your case may or may not allow for this mounting option.

  • Are there different formats for the iBooks reader?

I created a picture book, but when it's opened in iBooks, it displays each page as a small image on the "pages" of the book. I opened my file in Cloud Reader (for comic books) and it's displayed perfectly, with the pages filling up the screen. Can iBooks do this, or is the "book" display the only format?

    Hi Srabon,
We can set the "Target Audience" property of web part to group maintaining restricted read  users.  By this, the web part will be shown to specific users only.

  • Quest for the missing es:ForEachInArray ?

    Ok, I tried the following:
    <pz:contentSelector rule="modern" id=""/>
    <es:forEachInArray array="<%=nodes%>" id="node" type="com.bea.content.Node" >
    <p><%=request.getContextPath() + "/ShowBinary" + node.getPath()%></p>
    </es:forEachInArray>
It does not appear to work, as <es: seems to have become <utility: . So I tried
chaning es -> utility and was able to locate the appropriate taglib, etc... However,
    the nodes <%=nodes%> statement fails.
Am I supposed to declare an Object[] array named 'nodes' within the JSP to get
this to work or is it not predefined somewhere? Perhaps it too has had a name
    change?
    TIA
    Chris

FYI - if you're in love with the 'es' prefix, you can always just change
    the <%@taglib%> directive's prefix attribute...

  • My feed rejected for the 3d time

    Hello there,
my rss feed just god rejected for the 3d time and now I really don't know what to change.
    Here's the feed: http://coachdraguepodcast.libsyn.com/rss2
Any idea why it keeps getting rejected?
These are the things I've changed after the first two rejections:
    Copyright © 2014 · CoachDrague.com - Tous droits réservés --------changed to--------> © 2014 CoachDrague
    added category: Health --> Sexuality
changed content rating : clean --> explicit
changed content ratings for ALL the episodes (even the clean ones): clean --> explicit
Now I have no clue what to change...
    Thank you in advance.

The description for your podcast includes two English words which the forum software will censor if I write them here, but they are h------e and b------t
The second in particular will be regarded as strong language. You cannot use strong language in a title, subtitle or summary, whatever you have the 'explicit' tag set to, because people see these as soon as they look at the podcast (whereas the tag warns them off the contents). You need to amend your 'itunes:summary' and 'description' tag tso remove these words, and check for anything similar in the various tags for the episodes.

I am new to dreamweaver and have undertaken the cd training, however I am unable to find information on how to add an rss feed reader to my site and which extension is most appropriate. I would really appreciate if someone could advise me how i go about adding the feed reader to my site so I can show content generated by Feeds from other websites. I would also appreciate any advice on which reader is most compatible with CS5
I went to the Adobe Exchange for Dreamweaver and search on "rss" and got 14 hits:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?searchfield=rss&search_exchange=3&search_c ategory=-1&search_license=&search_rating=&search_platform=0&search_pubdate=&num=25&startnu m=1&event=search&sticky=true&sort=0&rnav_dummy_tmpfield=&Submit=
Maybeone of the Dreamweaver Extensions does what you want.

  • RSS Feed Read Synchronization?

I had posted this a couple of months ago and did not get a response. Just reposting it to see if anyone might have any ideas:
I have multiple computers which I have synchronized my RSS feeds. My question is thus: Is there a way to synchronize the articles that you have marked read between computers? Most times, I come to a different computer and the articles that I have read one one computer are showing up as unread on the next computer. Can you have the read articles synchronized? I use Safari for Mac as well as Safari for Windows. I have MobileMe set up between all computers.

    Hi Zeff
I'm assuming you are using Safari as your RSS reader:
Keeping the feeds and bookmarks for that matter synchronized between computers is not an easy task. This is definitely a ''work in progress" on Apple's part.
In theory, if you mark articles as read on one computer, then synch your bookmarks to the cloud and then on to the other computers, the article counts ought to comport. However, the actual result is sketchy at best. It used to work for me, however, over time, I found my RSS counts on my other two machines to be significantly out of synch. I filed a bug report with Apple (via the Safari Menu). Perhaps Snow Leopard will provide a better way to synch the feeds.

another message I get is: " ZoneAlarm browser security detected problem with stability of protected browser. It will be restarted."

    I'm asking for more information.
Please try that in [[safe mode]] and check for the issue.

Generate another of those errors, and click the "Click here" link in the error message box.
What modname and modver do you see for the error? (Precise spelling, please.)

  • Can I set a default font and font color for the text field properties?

I am setting up applications, some of the information I fill in prior to sending it to the client; I would like that text to always be in a specific font and color so it is clear to the client what information I filled in for them when they are reviewing the document.
    Thank you

Not at this time, but I've asked the product team to consider adding it as a feature. Thanks for the suggestion.
