Question about a memory upgrade

I am looking to upgrade the memory on my iMac 2006 (late). I currently have the 512 RAM that the computer came with. I am looking to upgrade to two 1GB slots of RAM. Does anyone know if the PNY MN1024SD2-667 is compatible? The specs seem to match up with what Apple recommends, but I'd like to be entirely sure before I order it from Amazon.

You should visit OWC's web page for iMac RAM.
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac
They make it easy to find the correct RAM for your iMac model. Even if you don't buy from them, use the specifications in the item description.

  • Satellite U405D - Several questions about overheat/disassembly/upgrade etc.

    Hi there,
I have several questions about my one year old Satellite U405D-S2910
1- When it works, after 2-3 hours (I usually run small programs like safari, msn messenger and bsplayer) CPU gets 85-90 C (178-188 F). When I play Age of Empires 2 (Come on, its an ancient game) like 2-3 hours it shuts down itself. What could be the possible reason?? By the way, let me inform you about the climate of the town I live, temp 30C - humidity 25-35% (nowadays).

2- I'm going to disassemble my laptop in order to clean its cooling units (I think reason of overheating is this). It doesnt seem like a desktop, so complicated. Ive seen a step-by-step disassembly(btw, its so hard to spell disassembly:) I think Im going to do this. What are your suggestions about it? any experiences could help me?
3- My laptops Ram memory consists of 2X2GB PC5300 DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM, I want to replace it to 2x2GB MACH XTREME DDR2 1333MHZ CL9 NOTEBOOK RAM. Should I do it? Does it fit my laptop, work stable? any suggestions?
    ps. mainboard chipset AMD M780V
4- finally :) , Should I use 64 bit OS or 32 bit OS (win7)? what OS would you use if you were me?
    Thank you.

    Hi buddy,
1+2. I think everything is related to a higher internal temperature and you should clean your notebook using compressed air spray. Therefore its not necessary to disassemble it, just blow gently and shortly the air through the notebook. You can buy such compressed air spray from every computer store I think and it takes only 5 minutes.
You can find an useful article about this here:
    3. In my opinion you should forget this update! The RAM speed is related to FSB of CPU and as far as I know on Satellite U405D its 667MHz so its already the fastest RAM that you can have. Save your money and buy a bigger HDD or in best case an SSD that can really improve the performance!
    4. In my opinion the answer is clear: Windows 7 64bit.
    Only a 64bit OS support full 4GB RAM. ;)

  • Questions about OC and upgrading my 790FX-GD70

    Hey Guys,
So Ive had this board for a while now (790FX-GD70) and am looking to throw some new parts on it, I want to throw the 1100T CPU on there (Unless MSI wisens up and enables AM3+ like they did for other boards) and was to throw in some 1600 or 1800 ram, Ive got a couple concerns though.
    1. Ive never updated the bios on thsi board (I think its 3.04), frankly Im not a huge fan of doing it and avoid it unless I absolutely have to, will I need to update the bios to throw in a thuban?
    2. The boards specs say that the board supports 1600/1800 member but only OC'd, so that means I need to OC the FSB right? But Im not sure how much overclocking this boards FSB can actually handle, if Im not mistaken for 1600 it will need to be 2400-2600 and even higher for 1800 memory. Can the board handle it? Will I have some major FSB heat issues?
2a. What do I need to overclock? Do I need to increase the bus speed or the fsb multiplier? What voltage do I need to set for the FSB at thoes speeds?
2b. Bus speed affects cpu clock as wel ldoesnt it? so if I boost the bus then do I have to throttle back the multiplier?
My goal is to have the 1100t running at around 4gz and the memory will either be 1600 or 1800, it depends what I find with good timings at a decent price.
    Thanks guys!

The Guide will come in handy. I have an 790FX-GD70 that I have done plenty of OC settings with my original Phenom II X3 720BE, and now my X6 1090T.
Overclocking is a trial and error project. When you get a better understanding about the effects of Overclocking you will learn that it's about stability with an overclock, and not setting records. Well.. unless record setting is a part you want to play with. Stability.. there are programs to test you overclock. Many of them, some available here in downloads. Prime, Futuremark, OCCT.. choices to help you test for stability. Play safe, step by step.. that way you avoid damaging your system. There are a lot of Overclock examples on the net. Search the board and overclock. The board is now a couple of years old.. but it was a hot.. overclock board. You can find it even with your CPU as examples to learn from.
Here's one for you.. you'll learn! You stated 1600-1800 memory speeds. OK, it's an overclock. But, the question is? Do you get a gain? Is 1800 really quicker than 1333? The number is bigger. 1600, or 1800 is bigger than 1333, or 1066. So, it must mean it's better and faster, right? Well.... if you compare reads and writes between 1333 and 1600 the gain is little or none. There are different CPU crunch uses. Like burning video or playing a game. Different demands, different setting results. The AM3 CPU is made for 1333. In some Overclocks because of timings... 1066 could offers quicker results than 1600. It's trial and tests. Not just CPU but Memory and more make an Overclock. Welcome to Overclocking. It's fun and done within limits... you will get more out of what you have. Me.. my best Overclock to date? Results I see from my 790FX-GD70? I have run 3.8 stable... and my SSD's are a better OC than tweaking my speeds. Both together... I have amid OC and am very happy.
    Good Luck

  • I have a question about backdating after upgrading to a larger minute plan.

I have overages in the amount of almost 400 minutes. We downgraded our plan back in Feb., to Nationwide talk and text 700 minutes because we had huge bills and were not using the minutes with that plan. So, we noticed last months bill we had 40 minutes of overages... okay, not too bad, we didn't say anything. Then this month we noticed that our "friends and family" numbers/option for numbers were gone! Rep said NOTHING when we downgraded about loosing them, in fact, I made the comment with the rep on the phone that 700 minutes with our friends and family numbers would be plenty (and it would have been), but since we have lost those, we are now incurring huge overages. So, today I called in, had it changed to 1400 minutes, which miraculously gave us our friends and family numbers back, but they are "unable to backdate to cover the overages" and we are now looking at a $700  bill to be billed out on the 10th of May. Even our online account said to upgrade our minutes and request and backdate on the account to keep from incurring the overage charges... So, my question is, has anyone else had this problem? Is this truly non-fixable? Am I going to be stuck with a $700 bill for one month????!!!! Do I need to call back tomorrow and try again for a backdate in the plan? I feel extremely cheated right now.

Vzn SHOULD be able to backdate your plan to cover current overages as long as your bill cycle has not closed (unless you made other changes to your account during the month). Call customer care

  • Specific questions about a RAM upgrade to 4GB on my MBP

I have a MBP model MA895LL/A. Currently populated with the original memory (2GB)
Recent clean install of Snow Leopard, with all current updates.
    Specific questions:
What memory does Apple use in their laptops? Does it really matter if you get the same manufacturer for complete compatibility?
Do timings matter? Will faster timing improve performance slightly, or is it a waste of money to go for the faster stuff on my specific model (Intel Core 2 Duo T7500)
Best to populate with 2 sticks X 2?
Finally, how about manufacturers? Anyone have any positive experiences with specific manufacturers, or, horror stories they can share?
I guess I just want to buy the best memory for my MBP. I build my own PCs, but I'm not sure if the Mac is a little more picky, RAM wise. Cost isn't really a factor. I'm willing to spend a little more, and buy the right stuff, and only do it once, without the hassle of sending it back, etc.
Any advice would be great. I know its possible this question has been answered many times before. I guess I don't know where to look...

Uh, yes, this is asked just about every day, like here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2154109&tstart=0
Using the "Search Category" box in the upper right works.
To answer your questions, since you likely have the 2 slots filled with 1GB DIMMs, you need to get a pair of 2GB to max the RAM. I guess you could use 1 OEM stick and one 2GB stick for 3GB total, but I would just go for 4GB. If you are under warranty, save the original RAM, as Apple seems to dislike seeing any 3rd party RAM no matter what. Put the OEM RAM back in if you need warranty work.
I've seen several brands OEM, a lot of Hynix and Samsung, but it is probably all well tested to Apple spec. Otherwise, brands mean nothing, but see the above linked thread. I prefer to go with the exact spec'd RAM myself. I believe "faster" RAM does not run any faster. Vendors mentioned in the linked thread all have selector aids to find the exact RAM for your model.

  • A question about student version upgrade

    Hi everyone,
I do know, that student version is only for noncommercial work, and while i'm just a student, i don't wanna take that risk that I might get commercial work to do, and I would't be allowed to do it.
Now what I've got in my mind, is that i would first buy cs4 design premium - student version. Then I would update it to the commercial version (CS4).
The question is, can I update CS4 student to CS4 commercial, or do I have to wait until CS5 is to be released.
And IF I can upgrade from CS4 student to CS4 commercial, does it cost the regural upgrade price? ( ~790€ ).
I know that student version has full upgrade rights, but on the "whats egible for upgrade" it doesn't mention CS4 (for obvious reasons, usually people don't want to pay to upgrade to same program they have), but somehwhere in the european FAQ (here http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/students/studentedition/faq.html ) there was mentioned this
Can I upgrade from a Student Edition?
Yes, a Student Edition can be upgraded to a commercial version.
Now it is not clearly stated, that can we upgrade from later version to more recent one, or can we upgrade recent student ver to recent commercial ver
Location: Europe, Finland, so before you north americans tell me that I can use student version for commercial work, i'd like to say that It doesn't work that way in Europe.
Thank you for your time, I hope someone has a clear ansrew to me.

  • Questions about Oracle client upgrade

    Hello,
I have to upgrade my Oracle Client (to 9.2.0.8) on an HPUX server, in order to migrate the database to 10G in a later stage.
I read the note 1017418, but  I did not understand it well ...
It's the case of a central instance and I understand that I have to perform the step 6, but there is no usage of command SAPCAR ! just several checks !
and what about the sentence "If at a later stage the database server would be upgraded to Oracle 10.x, you would need to install the Oracle 9.2 client as described in step 5 above." ?
Have I to perform this step 5 right now ? and only this step ?
I hope that somebody in the world already made this operation successfully ...
    Please : I need help !
    Regards

    Hi,
    I'll try to explain:
The note mentions on the step 6:
<i> 6. For application servers with database instance (DB Server), if the
database server is Oracle 9.2 please do the following:</i>
On this situation you do not install physically the oracle client.
You already have the RDBS software installed ( lets say it is 9.2.0.8 as you are talking about installing oracle client 9.2.0.8 )
On the RDBMS software is already included the oracle client.
For this reason, insted of installing <u>physically</u> the client you have softlinks from the directories where the SAP kernel is looking for the client to the RDBMS software.
points <b>a</b> to <b>d</b> are cheking what I already explained.
But, the oracle client delivered by SAP contains some bugfixes, therefore you have to check that also those bugfixes are installed on the database. That is point <b>e</b>
Point <b>f</b> only tells you that is valid while you have the 9.2.0.8 software installed on the server. If you upgrade to 10g, probably you will uninstall the oracle 9i software ( about 2 Gb to be freed ) in that case you must install physically the oracle 9.2.0.8 client

  • Equium A100-306 Question about ModusLink Vista Upgrade

    Hi,
I purchased a Equium A100-306 in November prior to deploying on operations as I am in the forces and was unable to upgrade before this.
I have just returned and have found out I can no longer get my Vista upgrade as I have missed the deadline. I have E-mailed ModusLink with no response. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or could help me resolve this problem.
I feel I should not miss out on the free upgrade due to circumstances out of my control. Looking through the documentation I received with my laptop there was no deadline stated it is only on the internet the deadline is made clear but I was unable to check this out.
    Thanks for any help.
    Greg

Ivan is right. The moduslink company is responsible for the XP to Vista upgrade.
It controls the upgrade procedure for all computer companies which offer this upgrade.
However, I dont think that you will be able to order the Vista upgrade if you have missed the deadline but of course nothing is impossible and you should really ask the moduslink guys if you can take this offer good luck buddy

  • Question about sap memory

May I ask that how long did you restart your sap system?  Because in our sap system, the memory usage is always rising,     in the beginning of sap starting, the computation memory usage is 60%, after several days, it becomes 90%, and then uses paging space,,   some memory used by sap work processes will not release automatically.
It is necessary to restart sap system after several weeks?     Could you give me some advices?

Hi, can you check the t-code st02 are many swaps after long time running ?
    Check and post here the
St02 --> detail analysis meny --> Storage. you can see the Virtual memory allocated "Total", how mutch it and User storage for all work processes, Storage Shared Between Work Processes --> total allocated.
Per your configuration looks --> 3 GB are SGA_MAX_SIZE ? or it not seted up ?(in any case db_cache:2GB + shared_pool:1GB = 3GB) the extended memory are em/initial_size_MB = 4096 , also for sap buffers are set some memry, for OS itself, the Heap are also 2Gb, as you can see 8 GB are not enogth and you will see
swap's. Are this greatly affects the performance?

  • Question about nForce2 memory configuration

    Hi all,
I am running an MSI K7N2-L board with memory running 256|empty|256 in dual mode.
If I bought a stick of 512 and ran it 256|256|512, would it still run in dual mode?
    Thanks in advance

if you have 2 sticks i think you put one in the separate slot and the other in one of the slots that are right next to each other (not sure on the colors at the moment) and if you have 3 sticks, 2 have to add up (MB wise) to the other one. (i.e. 2 256MB sticks and a 512MB stick) and you would put the 2 256MB sticks in the two slots right next to each other and the 512MB stick in the separate slot.  Thats what i think anyway, i could be wrong.  Its hard to explain, lol.

  • [SOLVED] Question about new pacman upgrade

The release notes ay that "Installing package with -U is now smart like -S — dependencies and conflicts are now handled"
So, if I am understanding this correctly... when I am installing something from the AUR, I only need "makepkg -i", instead of "makepkg -si"?
    Last edited by dfetter88 (2010-06-23 11:38:37)

No, you will still need to install dependencies to build a package.    But if you used "makepkg -sr" to make sure you have removed the unneeded makedepends, then you can use "pacman -U <pkg>" to get the runtime depends back.

  • Memory upgrade on the NB550D-11D - 4GB RAM are possible

To anyone who's thinking about a memory upgrade on the NB550D:
The NB550D supports up to 4GB of memory, not only 2GB as mentioned by Toshiba in their specifications.
A memory upgrade to 2GB is _only limited_ by the pre-installed Windows 7 Starter OS, not by the netbook itself.
I'm using Linux Mint 11 Katya, 64bit and my system is running perfectly well with a 4GB ram module. If you want to use full 4 GB ram support, get rid of the Win 7 Starter OS.
The specification for higher volume ram is DDR3 1333MHz PC3-10600 SO-Dimm. I've chosen one 4GB module by Corsair, due to the 30 years warranty Corsair offers.
It took me quite a while to find this out, hope this is going to be a help to everybody who's just as unsecure as I was how to upgrade the NB550D memory. Good luck. ;o)

    > A memory upgrade to 2GB is only limited by the pre-installed Windows 7 Starter OS, not by the netbook itself.
I can confirm this. Two days ago Ive installed own Win7 32bit Home Premium and upgraded my NB520 with 4GB RAM. 3GB are in usage now and notebook runs perfectly.
With original Win7 Starter version I have noticed annoying display behaviour while watching action movies. When the scene in the movie was without movement everything was ok but by action scenes some strange lines were shown on the screen.
Now after own OS installation everything works perfectly and Im so happy with my NB520.
I can just recommend it for everyday usage.
    By the way: I use 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3-1333Mhz PC3-10600

  • Memory upgrade on Tecra M7

How do you actually upgrade the RAM on a Tecra M7. This is a new laptop and the correct memory card has already been purchased. I just can't find any technical info in the manual or on the website as to how to physically do this.
    Regards
    Marion

    Hi
On the most notebooks the memory slot are placed at the bottom of the unit but it seems that on Tecra M7 the slots are placed under the keyboard.
may I ask why you suggest the user manual does not provide any information about the memory upgrade???
I have downloaded the user manual from the Toshiba site and found a long and detailed instruction how to upgrade and insert the modules!!!
You should check the chapter 3 -> Features, Utilities and Options -> Memory expansion
Please post again after the replacement.
