Question about ex println.

Marry christmas all. prepare for a stupid question.
After a look in API I see 10 PrintStream.println() all with diffrent arguments.
So for example I can do .
System.out.println("A simple String);
System.out.println(120)And the method with the rigth argument is called. Or I can do this.
System.out.println("A simple String" + 120);Can I do the same with my own overloaded methods. Some thing like.
public class ConvertNumber{
convert(int i){
convert(double d){
}ConvertBumber.convert(10 + 10.23);

However, you do know that this will simply call the (double d) version, right? It kind of looks like you might be thinking that your one call to convert will invoke both signatures. That won't happen, and it doesn't happen in PrintStream or any other class. That's not how overloading works.Yes that was just what i thougth. How does it work?How does what work?
When you call println(X)--or ANY METHOD(X)--the argument X is fully evaluated before the method is called.
so println(1 + 2.34) first evaluates 1 + 2.34. Since at least one of the operands to the plus operator is a double, the other is promoted to a double, and the double math 1.0 plus 2.34 is performed. Since the result is a double, its println(double) that gets called, with the arg 3.34.

  • Few questions about Calendar / SimpleDateFormat classes

    Hi.
    I have few questions about Calendar class:
    1. How can I get only date representation (without the time)?
    after doing:
    Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
    I tried to clear unecessary fields:
    cal.clear(Calendar.SECOND);
    cal.clear(Calendar.MINUTE);
    cal.clear(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY);
    But after printing the time, it seems that the HOUR was not cleared:
    SimpleDateFormat sdf1 = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss");
    System.out.println(sdf1.format(cal.getTime()));
    ---> 03/11/2004 17:00:00
    Am I missing somthing?
    2. I want to make sure that two different formats couldn't be compared. i.e., if I'll try to parse one String according to different format -- ParseException will be thrown.
    String date = "19/04/2004 13:06:10";
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    Date dateObj = sdf.parse(date);
    However, even though that formats are different, no exception is thrown and the return Date is 19/04/2004 00:00:00.
    How can I cause to exception to be thrown if formats are not identical?
    Thanks in advanced

    The Calendar class has a few of what Microsoft would call 'features'. :^)
    To clear the time, call:
    calendar.set(calendar.get(Calendar.YEAR), calendar.get(Calendar.MONTH), calendar.get(Calendar.DAY), 0, 0, 0);
    If you want 'pessimistic' rather than 'optimistic' date parsing, you have two options:
    1) Call calendar.setLenient(false);
    See if that is strict enough for your needs, otherwise:
    2) Write code to ensure a stricter parsing of the string passed in. For example, you could very simply check the length of the string to determine if time data is also present.
    When parsing, a string like '02/29/02' would parse to the date '03/01/02'. Setting lenient to false may fix this, but the surest way is to do some testing and then make the parsing more pessimistic where it suits your needs.

  • Questions about user-defined functions

    Hello all,
    I've got some questions about user-defined function in a message mapping:
    1) How can I get the current date/time in format yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss ? What is the java code for this?
    2) I want to use the StreamTransformation constant TIME_SENT, only this is not in the right time-zone.
    It is GMT and it should be CET (1 hour difference). How can I convert this in Java?
    Can somebody help me with this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Marco van Iersel

    Hi Marco,
    If the date format is fixed as you have mentioned,please use this:
                                    String test = "2009-03-27 23:15:30";
              String test1 = test.substring(11,13);
              if(!test1.equals("23"))
              int a = Integer.parseInt(test1);
              int b = a+1;
              System.out.println("b"+b);
              String c = Integer.toString(b);
                                    test = test.substring(0,10)+" " + c + test.substring(13,19);
                                    return test;
              if(test1.equals("23"))
              test = test.substring(0,10)+ " 00" + test.substring(13,19);
              return test;
                                    else return "";
    Kindly let me know if this works.
    Thanks.

  • Question about java-based server app frameworks

    Hello, I am working on a Java applet application and would like to choose a Java-based scalable server framework to use within my applcation. I have found a few like xsocket or QuickServer and have a question about other. And, also, which is the one You may advise? Yours sincerely, Slawek

    For online gaming server. I first heard of xsocket and started using this, but have the problem with NAT. I now know that I need to initiate connections from client behind NAT (server has a public IP) and send messages from server to client within the same connection. I am doing this the following way (as shown in examples- below), but it appears that server receives messages, but client doesnt. I dont listen on any ports in client application and just need to take advantage of the connection initiated (information go from client to server properly).
    Server-
    try{ nbc = pool.getNonBlockingConnection(inetAddress, 8090);
    try{ nbc.write("|01|______|02|______|03|______|04|______|05|______|06|______|07|______|08|______|09|______|10|______"); }catch(Exception ee){}
    }catch(java.io.IOException f){}
    Client-

    String x = nbc.readStringByLength(100);
    System.out.println("S >> C = "+x);

  • Question about dependent projects (and their libraries) in 11g-Oracle team?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a question about dependent projects. An example:
    In JDeveloper 10.1.3.x if you had for instance 2 projects (in a workspace): project 1 has one project library (for instance a log4j library) and project 2 is a very simple webapplication which is dependent on project 1. Project 2 has one class which makes use of log4j.
    This compiles fine, you can run project 2 in oc4j, and the libraries of project 1 (log4j) are added on the classpath and everything works fine. This is great for rapid testing as well as keeping management of libraries to a minimum (only one project where you would update a library e.g.)
    However in 11g this approach seems not to work at all anymore now that weblogic is used, not even when 'export library' is checked in project 1. The library is simply never exported at all - with a noclassdeffound error as result. Is this approach still possible (without having to define multiple deployment profiles), or is this a bug?
    Thanks!
    Martijn

    Hi Ron,
    I've tried what you said, indeed in that .beabuild.txt when 'deploy by default' is checked it adds a line like: C:/JDeveloper/mywork/test2/lib/log4j-1.2.14.jar = test2-view-webapp/WEB-INF/lib/log4j-1.2.14.jar
    Which looks fine, except that /web-inf/lib/ is empty. I presume its a sort of mapping to say: Load it like it in WEB-INF/lib? This line is not there when the deploy by default is not checked.
    I modified the TestBean as follows (the method that references Log4j does it thru a Class.forName() now only):
    public String getHelloWorld() {
    try {
    Class clazz = Class.forName("org.apache.log4j.Logger");
    System.out.println(clazz.getName());
    catch(Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return "Hello World";
    In both cases with or without line, it throws:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.log4j.Logger

    Secondly I added weblogic.xml with your suggested code, in the exploded war this results in a weblogic.xml which looks like:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <weblogic-web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-web-app.xsd" xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-web-app">

    The only thing from me is that container-descriptor tag, the rest is added to it during the deployment. Unfortunately, it still produces the same error. :/ Any clue?

    In the TrueFalseQeustion class, why are there so many constructors? What is the purpose of setting some of the variables to default values?
    Thank you very much!!!

    After some modifications, the program now gives me the result the assignment wants when I run it. But I still have trouble with the MultipleChoiceQuestion class

    } I don't understand why the assignment wants me to build a method in the MultpleChoiceQuestion class to store the potential answer choices, I can make the program display the potential answer choices by including them in the questionText as following in the QuizDriver class
    Question x;
    x = new MultipleChoiceQuestion("What is the color of the car\na.Red\nb.Green", "a. Red", 3);
    t.addQuestion(x); I don't know how to allow the client to construct the list of answer choices one at a time(add one potential answer choice by calling the addAsnwerChoices() method once)
    Here are a few original sentences of my assignment which describe what I should do with the MultipleChoiceQuestion class
    Using TrueFalseQuestion as a model, develop a new MultipleChoiceQuestion class that can be used to represent a problem where the user must select one of several answer choices (e.g., "Select answer (a), (b), (c), or (d)."). This new question type should have all of the same externally-visible functionality as TrueFalseQuestion, except that it must:
    maintain a list of potential answer choices
    provide a method that allows the client to construct the list of answer choices one at a time (i.e., the client should be able to call an addAnswerChoice() method to pass a new answer option to the MultipleChoiceQuestion.)
    display (as part of the question text) the list of answer choices with appropriate letters ("abcd" instead of "0123") I don't understand what these sentences mean.
    1. "Maintain a list of potential answer choices"-- this reminds me of the getPossibleAnswerChoice() method in the TrueFalseQuestion class
    public String[] getPossibleAnswerChoice ()
            String[] possibleAnswerChoice = {"true", "false"};
            return possibleAnswerChoice;
        }I wonder that if the potential answer choices I have to store in the MultipleChoiceQuestion class are only letters "a", "b", "c", "d", etc, or include the answer text coming after the letters(eg. a.Red, b.Green)
    2. "provide a method that allows the client to construct the list of answer choices one at a time". How do I achieve the functionality "one at a time"? Do I need to pass the input of the client (a potential answer choice) to the variable of the method which stores the list of potential answers?
    3. "display (as part of the question text) the list of answer choices with appropriate letters". My question here is that: When the client type in one possible answer, should I append it to the variable questionText? (So I use the questionText variable in the methods of the first and second steps)
    Thank you very much for your nice help!

  • Questions about ActiveX Bridge and SWT

    Hi !
    I found few weeks ago the www.reallyusefulcomputing.com site answering my question about Java & Macro of MSWord. Now I've found two steps that I am not able to overcome.
    First, when I build a simple application and I have internal libraries to use, am I compelled to place the jars in the lib/ext directory of the Java Runtime Directory? I have many difficulties in placing a convenient class-path in the manifest file. Why does the application ignore the manifest string?
    The second problem (and the biggest one) is that I am trying to build an SWT java-bean-application but I have problems during runtime. Is it possible to use this technology for my software or am I compelled to use AWT and SWING?
    I really hope you can help me.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Question about Finder-Load-Beans flag

    Hi all,
    I've read that the Finder-Load-Beans flag could yield some valuable gains in performance
    but:
    1) why is it suggested to do individual gets of methods within the same Transaction
    ? (tx-Required).
    2) this strategy is useful only for small sets of data, isn't it? I imagine I
    would choose Finder-Load-Beans to false (or JDBC) for larger sets of data.
    3) A last question: its default value is true or false ?
    Thanks
    Francesco

    Because if there are different transactions where the get method is called
    then the state/data of the bean would most be reloaded from the database. A
    new transactions causes the ejbLoad method to be invoked in the beginning
    and the ejbStore at the end. That is the usual case but there are other ways
    to modify this behavior.
    Thanks
    Gaurav

    Hi thorick,
    I have found this in the newsgroup. It's from R.Woolen answering
    a question about Finder-Load-Beans flag.
    "Consider this case:
    tx.begin();
    Collection c = findAllEmployeesNamed("Rob");
    Iterator it = c.iterator();
    while (it.hasNext()) {
    Employee e = (Employee) it.next(); System.out.println("Favorite color is:"+ e.getFavColor());
    tx.commit();
    With CMP (and finders-load-beans set to its default true value), thefindAllEmployeesNamed
    finder will load all the employees with the name of rob. The getFavColormethods
    do not hit the db because they are in the same tx, and the beans arealready loaded
    in the cache.
    It's the big CMP performance advantage."
    So I wonder why this performance gain can be achieved when the iterationis inside
    a transaction.
    Thanks
    regards
    Francesco

    If you know that you will be accessing the fields of all the Beans that
    you get back from a
    finder,
    then you will realize a significant performance gain. If one selects
    100s or more beans
    using
    a finder, but only accesses the fields for a few, then there may be some
    performance cost.
    It could
    depend on how large some of the fields are. I'd guess that the cost
    of 1 hit to the DB per
    bean vs.
    the cost of 1 + maybe 1 more hit to the DB per bean, would usually be
    less. A performance
    test using
    your actual apps beans would be the only way to know for sure.
    3) A last question: its default value is true or false ?The default is 'True'

    Maybe I am off base here but it seems to me the problem is the way in which you bind your server. The server must be bound to the same address and you are looking up from, i.e. "rmi://" host "/AddServer"
    so
    Naming.rebind("AddServer",addServerImpl);should be
    Naming.rebind("rmi://127.0.0.1/AddServer", addServerImpl);to match
    String addServerURL="rmi://"+args[0]+"/AddServer";
    AddServerIntf addServerIntf=(AddServerIntf)
    Naming.lookup(addServerURL);Hopefully this will solve your problem, if not it is a problem with your classpath. An easy way to make sure it can see your files is to set the java.rmi.server.codebase to point to where your classes are, e.g.
    java -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=file:"c:\\cygwin\\home\\tweak\\keck_folder\\cmsi401\\RMIGalaxySleuth\\classes\\" AddServer
    I had to set the codebas for my rmi stuff to work no matter how much I messed with the classpath.
    Hope this helps,
    Will

  • Questions about iTV

    I have a couple of questions about how iTV works. The first is can you connect a USB drive directly to the iTV and play content form that? The second is do I need to turn on my TV every time I just want to listen to music? This doesn't seem very green to me.
    Thanks
    Mark

    I could make it work. There is just one problem in the class com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.SSLSocketFactoryImpl, becouse it throws an exception due the lines below:
    Class localClass = SSLSocketFactoryImpl.c = class$("com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.SSLSocketImpl");
        System.out.println("SSLSocket:"+paramSSLSocket.getClass().getName());
        if (paramSSLSocket.getClass() != localClass)
        throw new RuntimeException("Export restriction: SunJSSE only");It happens because in the STB there is also a class SSLSocketImpl, but not with the same package. So the class instanciated is always the class in the STB.

  • A question about non-static inner class...

    hello everybody. i have a question about the non-static inner class. following is a block of codes:
    i can declare and have a handle of a non-static inner class, like this : Inner0.HaveValue hv = inn.getHandle( 100 );
    but why cannot i create an object of that non-static inner class by calling its constructor? like this : Inner0.HaveValue hv = Inner0.HaveValue( 100 );
    is it true that "you can never CREATE an object of a non-static inner class( an object of Inner0.HaveValue ) without an object of the outer class( an object of Inner0 )"??
    does the object "hv" in this program belong to the object of its outer class( that is : "inn" )? if "inn" is destroyed by the gc, can "hv" continue to exist?
    thanks a lot. I am a foreigner and my english is not very pure. I hope that i have expressed my idea clearly.
    // -------------- the codes -------------------
    import java.util.*;
    public class Inner0 {
    // definition of an inner class HaveValue...
    private class HaveValue {
    private int itsVal;
    public int getValue() {
    return itsVal;
    public HaveValue( int i ) {
    itsVal = i;
    // create an object of the inner class by calling this function ...
    public HaveValue getHandle( int i ) {
    return new HaveValue( i );
    public static void main( String[] args ) {
    Inner0 inn = new Inner0();
    Inner0.HaveValue hv = inn.getHandle( 100 );
    System.out.println( "i can create an inner class object." );
    System.out.println( "i can also get its value : " + hv.getValue() );
    return;
    // -------------- end of the codes --------------

    when you want to create an object of a non-static inner class, you have to have a reference of the enclosing class.
    You can create an instance of the inner class as:
    outer.inner oi = new outer().new inner();

  • A question about the execution order of java code

    I have a question about the order of the execution of java code.
    class myclass
    String str1 = new String("str1");
    static String str2 = new String("str2");
    static
    String str3 = new String("str3");
    myclass( )
    String str4 = new String("str4");
    static myfuntion()
    String str5 = new String("str5");
    When I new a myclass object, what is the order of execution about str1,str2.str3 ,str4?
    When I run myclass::myfunction( ) instead of new a myclass object what is the execution order about str1, str2, str3, str4, str5?
    Thanks

    hello,
    I think there may be one thing can't use println to make sure.
    class myclass
    static {  System.out.println("str1");   };
    myclass() { System.out.println("str2"); }
    then str1 appear before str2
    class myclass
    static {  String str1 = new String("str1"); };
    myclass() { String str2 = new String("str2"); }
    then
    str1 initilized before str2,
    str1 get the value str1----->after<----- str2.
    Am I right or wrong?

    I am an HP employee.

    My HP, purchased in June 2012, died on Saturday.  I was working in recently installed Photoshop, walked away from my computer to answer the phone and when I came back the screen was blank.  When I turned it on, I got a Windows Error Recovery message.  The computer was locked and wouldn't let me move the arrow keys up or down and hitting f8 didn't do anything.
    I'm not happy with HP.  Any suggestions?

  • Questions about using the Voice Memos app

    I'm currently an Android user, but will be getting an iPhone 6 soon. My most used app is the voice memos app on my Android phone. I have a couple questions about the iPhone's built-in voice memos app.
    -Am I able to transfer my voice memos from my Android phone to my iPhone, so my recordings from my Android app will show up in the iPhone's voice memos app?
    -When exporting voice memos from the iPhone to computer, are recordings in MP3 format? If not, what format are they in?
    -In your opinion, how is the recording quality of the voice memos app?

    You cannot import your Android voice memos to your iPhone's voice memo app.  You might be able to play the Android memos and have the iPhone pick up the audio and record it.
    Here is the writeup about sending voice memos from the iPhone to your computer (from the iPhone User Guide):
    App quality is excellent.
