Question about Installing CF9 on Linux

Hi,
I have a strange situation and I'm not sure where to go, so here I am.
Machines are Linux 64-bit.
My clients had someone tar up the /opt/coldfusion9 directory and copied to a new machine. They un-tar the package and said that it is running instead of using the normal install method.
The effects of this is that jrun keeps crashing and the -autorestart feature doesn't need to work. It returns (in the log file) a message that say:
autorestart: Process died in less than 30 seconds; not restarting.
Here is what I can accertain from the machines:
The OS version are slightly different where the original version (actually about 4 months older).
The configuration files all seem to be okay and match size and permssions to a similar server.
JRUN -autorestart fails to restart ... some times.
Does anyone know besides the obvious about what the installer does as far as determining system processor and type, OS versions, etc? I would assume that removing the entire CF process and re-installing (correctly) would solve most of the issues. Also, has anyone ever removed CF manually. Remembering that this is linux, If you have what "gotta" do I need to worry about.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,
http://www.aaronwest.net/blog/index.cfm/2011/1/24/Super-Guide-Installing-ColdFusion-9-on-U buntu-Linux
Also there's an excellent guide for CENTOS / RHEL (link at bottom of above page)
The installer is basically a big fat zip with an executable install script.  The install script checks the OS version / type/ OS core libraries / valid paths for deployment (CF/search/openoffice  etc) and deploys it's own JRE so is effectively self contained (the ol' Java write once - run anywhere).... however one of the *nix OS libraries that CF needs to install is the libstdc++.5.so or higher - use yum to update that library (compat-libstdc++)  - this library is related to the installer rather than CF standalone actually running.
Best bet - backup what you have and do a clean install
Good luck

  • Questions about installing a large internal hard drive

    Hello all,
I recently bought a Seagate 250GB internal hard drive for my Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics). I intend to install it alongside my old 20GB drive. I have a couple of questions about installing it:
    • What kind of PCI card do I need in order to use the full capacity of the drive?
    • I'm considering partitioning the drive and installing Debian Linux on one partition. Is it possible that Debian won't recognize the PCI card?
    • Is it possible to connect (RAID?) the old and new drives together so that they appear as one big 270GB drive? Is this a good idea?
    • What is the easiest way to copy the contents of my old drive onto the new one? I'd like an exact copy so that I don't have to reinstall the system and everything else; can Carbon Copy Cloner do that?
Thanks for any help and advice!

    • What kind of PCI card do I need in order to use the

If the drive is an SATA drive you need an SATA controller. If an IDE/ATA drive you need an IDE controller.
    • I'm considering partitioning the drive and
installing Debian Linux on one partition. Is it
possible that Debian won't recognize the PCI card?
You should check the Hardware Compatibility List for Debian against your potential mac compatible purchases. You might also get some good information from Yellow Dog Linux compatibility lists.
    • Is it possible to connect (RAID?) the old and new
drives together so that they appear as one big 270GB
drive? Is this a good idea?
If you want to stripe the 2 dives together your overall performance will be slowed down by the slower of the two drives. For example, If you have one 5400rpm drive and another 7200rpm drive, the RAID will be bogged down by the slower drive so you wont get the full benefit of the lower latencies of the 7200. You will still get some of the faster transfer times, just not the lower latencies.
Wether or not it's a good idea depends on your personal needs. Do you need a drive that can can move very large files to and from memory quickly (bandwidth) or a drive that can locate and serve up the files quickly (latency)?
    • What is the easiest way to copy the contents of my
old drive onto the new one? I'd like an exact copy

CCC should work fine for you. You could also use the command line asr utility.

  • Questions about Installing EBS R12 continued

    Folks,
Hello. This post is the continue for previous post "Questions about Installing EBS R12".
While installing EBS R12 using "./rapidwiz", the Install Wizard gets to "CD Locator - Select root directory of required Rapid Install Disk. Enter location for the disk labeled. Oracle Applications Rapid Install - Database Disk 1"
I browse the directory where Database Disk 1 is located (file name: V15680-01_1of3/oraAPPDB/Disk1). Then click "OK" button, CD Locator Windows come up again and again. The Install Wizard doesn't proceed !
The above issue means some files in stage area directory are corrupted. Thus, I have deleted the stage area directory (zip files and unzipped files) and try to download a fresh EBS R12 from Oracle Edelivery to install again.
Now, the problem is that when I empty trash (EBS_R12) in Oracle Linux 5, the 3 files (V15680-01_1of3.zip, oraAppDB, oraDB) cannot be deleted from the trash, the error message is:
"You don't have permission to modify its parent folder."
The file V15680-01_1of3.zip is Rapid Install Database Disk 1 on which the install Wizard stop while installing EBS R12.
Can any folks help to solve the issue on file "V15680-01_1of3.zip" ?
that is, how to empty it from Trash ? How to have the Wizard go through it when install again ?

  • Question about installing drivers on Vi

Hey,?Within the next couple of weeks, I intend to purchase a?X-Fi Fatalty FPS card. I know the Vista drivers aren't up to scratch at the moment, but I'm in no rush to upgrade to Vista, although I have access to the RTM through TechNet. As soon as all drivers are of a good standard then I'll upgrade - until then I'd stick with XP which works great. My question is this, If I buy this card it'll ship with a driver CD. I'll need to install the drivers/creative applications from this CD and then update them from the website. The drivers on the disc will be for Windows XP, and not compatible with Vista. When I format the dri've and install Vista, how do I go about installing the Creative Vista drivers. The downloadable ones from the website require the main CD drivers to be installed, which I won't be able to install as they're for XP. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

Ooh, perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick then. Im basing this on my experience with an old Creative Audigy card I had years ago, but If memory serves me correctly it was actually an OEM card. So what you're saying is, when I receive my X-Fi, I can not use the CD and straight away download the latest drivers/apps from the creative website and install them without needing to run the CD through first? Thanks for your reply.

  • Question about installing a SSD drive and how to clone

    Greetings,
I have a 2007 white macbook w/ 80GB HD. I have been thinking about installing a 60 GB SSD drive from OWC as the price has come down tremendously and honestly just to see how it improves boot time, launch, applications etc. I don't keep much stuff on this macbook as it is purely a "browsing" computer but I was wondering how to best clone the hard drive to the new one?
From what I understand, I use an application like Carbon copy cloner and backup "all data". Then, I turn the macbook over and follow the instructions for installing the new drive. Then, I guess I boot up and format the new drive with Snow Leopard.
When do I actually tell the recently formatted computer to transfer the data from the backup clone? Do I do this during the opening migration screen? I know how to import data from another computer using Firewire and a cable, however, does the new SSD formatted computer understand how to boot from the carbon copy cloner backup without installing this software on the new drive?
    Cheers.

    Julie:
I am no expert on SSDs. Here is how I would do it with a regular HDD. Note: You will need an external 2.5" enclosure.
Clone Old HDD to new HDD using SuperDuper
    • Install new HDD in enclosure
    • Connect to the computer and boot from internal HDD.
    • Launch Disk Utility and format new HDD in enclosure (post for step by step directions, if needed)
    • Download and launch SuperDuper
    • In the Copy field select your internal HDD
    • To is your newly formatted HDD in enclosure
    • Using *backup all files*
    • Click Options button
    • Check *Repair Disk Permissions on Source*
    • During copy Erase Destination HDD then copy from Source
    • On successful completion Quit SuperDuper
    • Shut down computer and with external still connected
    • Option boot from external HDD to check clone.
    • If everything checks out, remove new HDD from enclosure and install in computer.
    • Install old HDD in enclosure (if desired)

  • Question about installing Gnome

Hey everyone. I'm currently a Ubuntu user planning on trying out Arch Linux after my exams are done (in 2 weeks ).
I understand that in order to install Gnome, i need to update pacman using the commands 'pacman -Syu'  and 'pacman -Syy'. After this process i can install gnome by using the command 'pacman -S gnome gnome-extra'.
However, one thing that i couldn't find was whether or not this command will install the latest version of Gnome, which i believe is version 2.24.
One other general question i have is, how do i know which version the application i'm trying to install is when the commands are simply 'pacman -S [application name]'?
    Thanks for your help.

Use pacman -Ss [application name]. The second small 's' means search, so using pacman -Ss gnome would show you everything with 'gnome' in it's name. Among them is gnome-desktop, which shows as version 2.24.2-1

  • Question about installing/uninstalling if useless...

In my Add/Remove panel I have the following listed:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    Java(TM) SE Development Kit 6
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6
I downloaded JDK 1.6.0 so I could compile and interpret while I learn Java from "Learn Java in 21 days."
My question is: Do I need to have the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 and 6 in my add/remove panel? Can or should these be removed since I installed JDK1.6.0?

The book (pdf) is from '96 so I think it's outdated.
I tried compiling code from day 2 and it didn't work.
The code from day 1 did though. Yes, Windows XP,
although I have a dualboot wtih Mandrake 10.
I'm a little confused about the J2SE and JDK. Are
they the same thing, as in JDK1.5.0 = J2SE5? I
downloaded JDK1.6.0 and while installing it, it said
    "Java 2 Platform Standard Edition"
    I'll revert back to JDK5 in a bit. Thanks.The J2SE = Java 2 Standard Edition.
    JDK 1.5.0 ~ 1.5.6 is still J2SE
I believe the next version JDK 1.6 is still considered J2SE. Usually the version numbers are Major.Minor.Revision format. I am guessing that if the next JDK was version 2.0.1 then the platform would be J3SE. Just a quess though.

  • Beginner question about installing 1.5 on new machine

I signed up for a Creative Cloud account when Edge Animate 1.0 was released and installed it on my laptop.  I am finally going to set aside some time to learn the software, but I have a better, new laptop now.
It was my understanding at the time, and I have read about this recently too, that Adobe was being gracious enough to offer versions 1.0 and 1.5 indefinitely for free.
My problem is that on my new laptop I can't install the software.  I found links for the Adobe Application Manager and people saying you could get it through there.  But when I open AAM there is no option to download the software.  I also installed the Creative Cloud software, but can't download 1.5 from there either, only the 30 day trial version (not what I was looking for).
I was hoping to get the one that will work indefinitely at version 1.5 like I had previously, on my new computer (except I actually have 1.0 on my old computer).
    Any tips?
I apologize if this has already been covered, I searched extensively through the forums to see if there was already an answer to my question.

    Hi, Jason-
I want to clarify that we are not offering 1.0 and 1.5 indefinitely for free; we are offering 1.x in a perpetual license for a promotional price of free.  The first statement implies that we will always offer 1.5, no matter what happens with the HTML world.  The latter means that once you download 1.x, we won't expire the version you download.  Just wanted to clarify your statement.
    Thanks,
    -Elaine

  • Support validity question about installing and configuring SP13 on same machine as FAST to use both as search engines for SP2010

    Hi,
I have a SharePoint 2010 farm which is using its own servers.
This farm has a FAST Search for SharePoint server which is a standalone on a dedicated server.
This farm is my testing staging environment and not a Production environment, eventhough its almost an exact copy of the Production farm.
I would like to replace the FAST server with SharePoint 2013 as a search engine for my SharePoint 2010 farm.
Because i have a standalone deployment of FAST on a dedicated server and i dont have any more servers to add to this farm,
I would like to install SharePoint 2013 on same server as FAST while FAST is still active, connect it to the 2010 farm and do some tests before i will remove the FAST content and query SSA's.
I would like to know if installing a SP2013 on same machine as FAST is supported by Microsoft as long as the FAST is not connected to the SP2013? (performance is not an issue)
What about All in one machines like development servers, is it supported by Microsoft to install FAST on same machine as SP2010 farm? (again, performance is not an issue)
    thanks,
    Guy

I would like to know if this scenario is supported by microsoft.
This installation will be for testing purposes only, if there are any issues with installing SharePoint2013 on a FAST search machine, i would like to know what kind of problems i may run into.
I'd also like to clear out that this FAST and SharePoint2013 are not comunicating with eachother but with a SharePoint2010 farm that is configured on different servers.
I would really appreciate direct answers to these questions.
    thanks for your answers,
    Guy

  • Basic questions about installing ASM

I can't seem to find definitive answers to the following. Let me try here. I want to build a Linux server, running RDBMS 11.2.0.3, with ASM. This is just the prototype server, in our conversion from Oracle 11g on AIX without ASM to Oracle 11g on Linux with ASM.
I already have an Oracle VM cluster running, and have built a number of VMs from templates, and all that works fine. Now I'm trying to install ASM, and have failed several times. Maybe I'm doing something fundamentally bad. Here are two questions:
    1. Is it true that the only (reasonable) way to install ASM is to install the product called "Grid Infrastructure"? As best I can tell, the answer is "yes". But GI seems to be so much more than ASM, much that I don't think I want or need. Is there an easier way to get ASM?
    2. The certification matrix swears that Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.3 is certified on Oracle Linux 6. Yet (1) I see many posts on OTN and elsewhere on the net that say it is NOT supported, and that there are mant problems in gettng the installation to work, and (2) I have been trying to install on OEL 6, and can't get the installer to complete. Specifically, the root.sh script fails with "ohasd has failed to start...". Before pursuing my installation problems any more, I just want to make sure: Should this install on OEL 6?

So you will need Install GI to use ASM.
There is one GI installation wich can be installed and configured in two different way. For a Cluster or For a Standalone.
This Options must be choosen during installation.
The GI installation for a Standalone is called Oracle Restart.
The GI installation for a Cluster is called Oracle Clusterware.
Both option above have the ASM feature.

So many issues show up.
After it was certified by Oracle there are several notes on MOS that will help you follow important steps for a successful installation.
I think you should use OEL 6, since Oracle Linux 6 was Certified by Oracle Corporation you have all support on this product.

    Folks,
Hello. I have downloaded E-Business Suit R12 from edelivery and want to instsll it in Oracle Linux 5.
There are about 50 ZIP files in EBS R12 (Bxxxxx.zip and Vxxxxx.zip).
I unzip the a few Bxxxxx.zip files. The contents in "B53824-01_3of4.zip_FILES" folder are:
    Start CD -> Disk1 -> rapidwiz ->rapidwiz
Is "rapidwiz" the file to initialize the installation?
Do I need to unzip all of the files in EBS R12 before install ?

    Hi,
Is Base directory the place where EBS R12 will be installed?Yes.
The directory before your apps, db and inst folder
    Ex:
    /u01/oracle/PROD/ ---> Base
    /u01/oracle/PROD/db --> Db folder
    /u01/oracle/PROD/apps -> Application folder
How to choose the Base directory in the File System ?Depends on your mount points. But the basic is as shown above
Do I need to create a new Top-level directory as Base directory ? Not needed. Rapidwiz will create it for ya
But make sure you have correct permissions for oracle and applmgr.

Hi Karen and welcome to Discussions,
The only reason I want to use Windows is to be able to download games from the internet that are not made for Mac only for PC and I have a few questions:
    1. Doing all this installation will anything made for PC work?
Nearly anything. There are some Windows programs using hardware dongles that don't run.
    2. I only have Windows XP will that work? And then do all the SP updates after it's installed?
You need a Windows XP CD with at least Service Pack 2 (SP2) incorporated.
    3. If I have to use Windows XP SP2 is this one a good one to buy?
    http://www.cdsfu.com/index.php?categoryID=87
another user round here had already asked about that website.
Three things about this offer are, at least to me, very suspicious:
"Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition With SP2, Full Version on CDR"
Microsoft never has used CD-R disc (CD-Recordable) for Windows
"software that does NOT include any COA label or a sticker from the manufacturer"
There always has to be a sticker, that one puts on the computer on which the Windows license is installed and a COA label as well.
    "VOLUME LICENSE INCLUDED"
A volume license, from my understanding, was only sold to companys, who install Windows on a larger scale (hundreds of computers) and for that purpose are given only one license-key for all installations.
Usually this is known as a'corporate license'.
All in all, I would personally stay away from this offer. It simply doesn't sound legal to me.
    4. After everything is installed do I have to use an anti-virus?
When running Windows a decent Anti-Virus software is a must.
I want to thank you for your help as you can see I really am a newbie.
You're welcome anytime. Hope it helps.

  • [SOLVED]Questions about openbsd ffs and linux ext2fs

    Hello everyone.
First of all, forgive me if the post is not on the correct section.
I'm going to install arch linux to my thinkpad and i have some questions:
I have two external hard disks (once) formatted to openbsd ffs. (now i'm making efforts to turn it to ext2fs )
    1) Does Arch have by default read support for openbsd ffs filesystems or i have to build a custom kernel?
2)I would mostly like to have read and write access from both OSs. I know that ext2fs should work for read and write from Openbsd and Linux so this could be a good option. My problem starts when i try it for example to format the disks under Openbsd; i successfully created a working ext2 partition, but when i try it
with an Ubuntu live cd to see if it works, i see no partitions and i have to reformat it. On the other hand, if i create it under Linux, then it's not working under Openbsd.
So now that i'm migrating to arch, which are the good practices to make partitions work/cooperate under both OSs?
notes: On Linux, i tried with both gparted and disk utility with no luck.( It works for linux but not for OpenBSD).
Has anyone managed to work with both ext2fs and both Linux Openbsd?
What are the best practices in such cases?

well fstype is one thing , bsd labels vs mbr is another. In case with linux and bsd dualboot best practice is vfat (aka fat32) but with all its limitations ( i can be wrong here 'cos i never tested dual zfs for instance ).
