Question about Jar!

Hi there!
I work on a minesweeper clone (as i mentioned in a previous thread) with Eclipse 3!
I completed most of my work, so i wanted to find out if the game works without Eclipse, but it does not.
When I start it with Eclipse everything works the way I want it (except one thing), but when i put everything in a jar-file (using Eclipse) one problem occurs:
When you hit a button, that is surrounded by (let's say) three mines, I use the setImage() method to put an image on that button, that is a little three. As mentioned, when I use Eclipse and start the game this works perfectly, but when I try it with the jar-File it does not, although the Jar-File does conatin the images.
This is how I load the images:
gameButtons[x][y].setIcon(new ImageIcon("images/" + String.valueOf(count) + .pg"));The other problem (that I mentioned above) is that the restart of the game does not work properly. I have the folloowing:
     public void setDifficulty(Difficulty difficulty){
               lowerPanel.removeAll();
                * Set the number of buttons and the size of the window
                * depending on the difficulty level
               gameButtons = new GameButton[difficulty.width][difficulty.height];
               for (int y = 0; y < difficulty.height; y++){
                    for (int x = 0; x < difficulty.width; x++){
                         gameButtons[x][y] = new GameButton("");
                         gameButtons[x][y].setPreferredSize(buttonSize);
                         gameButtons[x][y].addMouseListener(gameButtonListener);
                         gameButtons[x][y].setActionCommand(x + " " + y);
                         lowerPanel.add(gameButtons[x][y]);
               lowerPanel.setLayout(new GridLayout(difficulty.height, difficulty.width));
                * Add the mines to the game
               mines  = new Mine[difficulty.numMines];
               count = 0;
               set  = new HashSet();
               while (count < difficulty.numMines){
                    int x = generateXPos(difficulty.width);
                    int y = generateYPos(difficulty.height);
                    result = x + " " + y;
                    inserted = set.add(result);
                    if (!inserted){
                         continue;
                    else{
                         mines[count] = new Mine(x, y);
                         count++;
               fieldWidth = difficulty.width;
               fieldHeight = difficulty.height;
               numMines = difficulty.numMines;
               Window.difficulty = difficulty;
               diff = difficulty.diff;
               pack();
     }     In detail the problem is that when I restart the game the buttons, that were clicked in the game before do not work any more, they simply do not react to the click.
Any suggestions on one of the problems?

Sounds like you're trying to create an executable jar when you say "then run it."
If so, then you'll need to add a manifest file too. It should contain the name of the "Main" program. It looks something like this:
Manifest-Version: 1.0
Main-Class: mypackage.Main
Put that in a file named manifest or whatever.
The jar command is:
jar cfm jarfile.jar manifest *

  • Questions about jar

    I'm a little bit confused about what is the difference of the use of three jars in jdk: tools.jar, dt.jar and rt.jar. Could anyone please tell me about that?
    Thank you in advance.

    Usually, we put the first two jars into environment
    variables "CLASSPATH", but not the "rt.jar". I reallyBecause it contains the runtime classes of the JVM, and it simply assumes that it is where it is, without the need to actually point it out.
    wanna know why? As we know, general packages like
    java.* and javax.*, are in rt.jar, not in "dt.jar" or
    "tools.jar".So what? They are JARs. Just a bunch of classes and ressources. If you want to know what they're good for, look into them, find the classes, read their docs.

  • Some question about sqlserver2008 sqljdbc4.jar

    hi,thank for read.
    I have a question about  sqljdbc4j.jar's PreparedStatement class.
    When i use PreparedStatement to deal a 'like ? ' query , like this sql (select * from(select ROW_NUMBER() Over(order by id) as rownum,* from t_word ) t where 1=1 and name like ?)
    then i set the like param for '%param%' or '%param' or '%param' , the program return
    different results, why ?
    Is there other way to deal this problem?
    Thanks again for the reading. And I hope to get your asap

    Hello,
    WHERE title LIKE '%param%' will return all name with the word 'param' anywhere in the name; '%param' will return names end with "param";'param%' with return start with "param".

  • Question about classpath and jar file

    I have a jar file (actually jhall.jar, the java help jar file). How do I uses its classes if I don't want to add it to the classpath. Currently, I have the jar file in the same directory as all my other classes.

    it simply adds secondjar.jar into firstjar.jar, rather
    than extracting secondjar.jar's files and put it into
    firstjar.jar. How would I be able to do that?Don't do either of them. Distribute the two jar files separately, and in the manifest of the one which is meant to be your executable jar file, put a Class-Path: entry that refers to the other one. Look at the latter parts of the tutorial about jar files:

  • A question about compatiblilty of JDBC

    Hi, there,
    I have a question about JDBC 3.0 in JDK1.4.1.
    We build a .jar using JDK1.4.1 and this .jar file
    provides JDBC 3.0 interface.
    I then tried to call the interface under JDK1.3.1
    but it keeps asking me about the getParameterMetaData()
    in PreparedStatement.
    (The error message like this:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: java/sql/ParameterMetaData dbmaker.sql.JdbcOdbcConnection.prepareStatement(JdbcOdbcConnection.java:257)
    I did implement the getParameterMetaData() method,
    but I didn't call this method in my testing program.
    It's quite strange since when JDK1.2 was release,
    we implemented the getBlob() method in
    ResultSet class and there's no problem when we
    use JDK1.1 run time to call this ResultSet object.
    Could any one tell me why? Is this caused by a
    compatibility problem between JDK1.4 and the
    older versions of JDK?

    Hi, there,
    Let me outline the condition by examples so that maybe you can help me. PLEASE! Could somebody tell us what's wrong?
    - CASE 1:
    In JDK1.2, we implemented a new method getBlob which returns the type of Blob (this is done according to JDBC 2.0 specification.) in ResultSet class. We can use the .jar compiled by jdk1.2 in jdk1.1 environment.
    e.g. We make a xyz.jar by jdk1.2 and the xyz.jar includes new method getBlob in ReaultSet class. Then, one java application including ResultSet class CAN run under jdk1.1 with xyz.jar, if the method ResultSet.getBlob() is not called.
    - CASE 2:
    BUT, the following case which is the same as in the above condition will fail in jdk1.3 environment.
    In JDK 1.4, we implemented a new method getParameterMetaData() which returns the type of ParameterMetaData. (BTW, this is done according to JDBC 3.0 specification.) in PreparedStatement class. We CANNOT use the .jar compiled by jdk1.4 in jdk1.3 environment.
    e.g. We make a ttt.jar by jdk1.4 and ttt.jar includes the new method getParameterMetaData() in PreparedStatement class. Then, one java application including PreparedStatement class CANNOT be run under jdk1.3 with ttt.jar, even when the method PreparedStatement.getParameterMetaData() is not called.

  • A question about Job schdueling in cluster

    hi all
    I have a weblogic cluster and want to use the build-in commonj support to do some scheduling work.the pdf version document "Timer and Work Manager API (CommonJ) Programmer's Guide" has something like this on page 7,"The Timer Listener class must be pesent in the server system classpath" .does it mean that I should not put it in web-inf/classes?instead, I should jar it and put the jar somewhere inside wls_home/server/lib or ext ?
    thanks a lot :-]

    hi mchellap
    here is another question about timers in the cluster,
    1) I implemented a serializable timerlistener which I want to make it cluster aware
    2) put the JNDI items "timer/MyTimer" in web.xml which is to commonj.timers.TimerManager
    3) I created a datasource on cluster in console with the tables created in db
    after the cluster is started,the job is to print out the "new Date()" in console every 40 second,and it worked very well
    I am expecting something in the db table,but there is nothing,not even a exception ,anything wrong here?

    This file is discussed in more detail in the following subsection.
    As mentioned above, the <code>/WEB-INF/web.xml</code> file contains the
    Web Application Deployment Descriptor for your application. As the filename
    extension implies, this file is an XML document, and defines everything about
    your application that a server needs to know (except the context path,
    which is assigned by the system administrator when the application is
    deployed).
    The complete syntax and semantics for the deployment descriptor is defined
    in Chapter 13 of the Servlet API Specification, version 2.3. Over time, it
    is expected that development tools will be provided that create and edit the
    deployment descriptor for you. In the meantime, to provide a starting point,

    Tomcat 6 enforces the rules defined here when processing your application's

  • Some random questions about integration features

    Greetings,
    after working for a few weeks with Autovue's ISDK (web server) and having some sucess with its integration with our custom CMS, I have a few random questions about what can be done and what can't be done. So, instead of opening many new threads, I'll post them here together.
    1) Translation. We are localised in Russia, and its translation is incomplete. I have found a tra_en.properties file in AutoVue/bin, and a description about how to create a properties file for custom actions. But no information about how to translate to other languages - and russian translation appears to be packed within the jar of the applet. Is there a clean way to translate, or refine the current translation, so we don't get a mix of russian and english commands in the applet? Because my tries using EXTRABUNDLES have failed, as I don't want to add a bundle for extra actions, but to replace it for existing ones.
    2) Attachments in markups. Markups allow to attach other files, but since our CMS is custom, we only get the option to attach files from our local drives. We did no browse integration with the CMS, as people with different levels of permission will have different access to files there, and we considered unnecessary to provide that level of integration. We are considering to remove this action from the GUI, but before that I'd like to evaluate how hard would it be to generate an upload file action, so the attached file would be stored in the custom CMS and linked to it so the whole thing worked. My guess is "it will be hard and time consuming", so for now, we are considering to delete this feature in our integration.
    3) Is there a way to resize the Open markup dialog? We have several properties displayed, and fit well within a standard screen, but the dialog is small and you have to scroll the table to see all properties.
    Thanks for any assistance with these issues

    As always, thanks for the fast answer, Artash.
    Yes, now I see attachments are stored inside the markup file. The problem is, when I open markup mode for the attachment, since the attachment uses some kind of default access method, my url's from the integration with the background CMS are broken completely. I believe the ideal state here would be to make some kind of inner markup for the attachment, maybe stored within the original markup file along the attached file. Or maybe it works that way, and I need to access it with the default gui action instead of my custom one. If that is the case, is there any way to tell the gui file how to differentiate a standard opened file from an attached one? If so, the issue has solution. If not... Well, then maybe something escapes me.

  • Basic questions about programing for J9 VM

    I need to create a java application to run on a Pocket PC 2003 OS and I'm limited to using IBM's Websphere J9 Virtual Machine. I'm new to using java in this capacity and therefore have lots of questions which I'm guessing are pretty basic. Despite my best efforts, I've found very little to help me online. Below are a couple questions I have that I'm hoping someone can help me with. Even better, if you know of any resources that could help me with these and other questions, I'd love to have them. Thanks in advance.
    1. I'm using standard AWT for the GUI but I'm having problems getting frames, dialogs, etc., to come up in anything less then full screen. setSize() and resize() have no effect, even if I extend the frame and override the setMinimumSize, setPreferredSize, setMaximumSize methods. What do I need to do to get a child window to appear in something less than full screen?
    2. I'd like to be able to add menu's to the buttom toolbar (with the keyboard) but have no idea how I would add something to it. Can someone point me in the right direction?
    3. When my application gets an iconified event I go ahead and call a System.exit() to exit the application. This doesn't kill the java VM though, which continues to run in the background (taking up plenty of memory). If I run my application using the J9w.exe so that it runs without the console, then not only does the VM continue to run, but I have no way to stop it (the running program list can't see it). Since each time I run my application it starts a new VM, it only takes a couple of times before I'm out of memory and have to do a soft reset of the PDA to make things right. Can I kill the VM when I kill my application?
    4. I learn best by looking at example code, but have been unable to find any code people are running on J9. I have the GolfScoreTracker installed and running on my PDA, but the jar file contains only the classes. Since it's supposed to be a demo, I had hoped that the source code would be included, is that hoping too much or is the source code available somewhere? In addition, if you know of any applications out there with available source code that are known to run well on a PocketPC J9 environment I'd appreciate the link.

    Hi there, I saw your questions, im currently developing a java pocket pc application as well and here's what i go so far:
    AWT seem to be hard to use on pocket pc, instead i recommend that you use SWT, which is a technology developed by eclipse. It's already installed on the eclipse plugins, you just need to download the jar and dll files for the pocket pc. They are available at: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/index.php
    I assume that you already have the J9 working on your device. So you only need to copy the SWT.jar file and the swt-win32-3064.dll to the folder containing the .class files on your device.
    Now, on your java IDE(im using eclipse) Add the SWT.jar library to your project which should be on C:/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.swt.win32_3.0.2/ws/win32/swt.jar or something like taht depending on your eclipse root.
    Now you are ready to code some SWT, here is a sample program from Carolyn MacLeod, i modified a few things so it could run on the pocket pc but it's almost the same. Once you coded in eclipse run it, then copy the class file from your desktop to your device(There should be like 4 or 5 classes like sample.class, sample$1.class etc. copy all of them) where you put the jar and dll files(If program does not run you may try to rename the dll file for swt-win32-3050.dll instead of 3064.dll). Now after you have everything set up you need to create the lnk file in order to run the program. On your desktop create a new textfile and write the following on it:
    255#"\Archivos de Programa\J9\PPRO10\bin\j9w.exe" "-jcl:PPRO10" "-cp" "\My
    Documents\Java\swt.jar" ;\My Documents\Java" sample
    Paths depend on your install, and the place where you put your classes and jar file. path for j9w is usually "\Program Files\J9\PPRO10\bin\j9w.exe", and the last word should be the classname.
    Currently this form only displays an image on a canvas, click on the browse button and choose a pic and it will display on the canvas. Im trying to connect the form to an oracle database but no success yet on the device.
    Hope it helps, if you have any questions about the code or something, and I know the answer, please feel free to ask.

  • Question about dependent projects (and their libraries) in 11g-Oracle team?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a question about dependent projects. An example:
    In JDeveloper 10.1.3.x if you had for instance 2 projects (in a workspace): project 1 has one project library (for instance a log4j library) and project 2 is a very simple webapplication which is dependent on project 1. Project 2 has one class which makes use of log4j.
    This compiles fine, you can run project 2 in oc4j, and the libraries of project 1 (log4j) are added on the classpath and everything works fine. This is great for rapid testing as well as keeping management of libraries to a minimum (only one project where you would update a library e.g.)
    However in 11g this approach seems not to work at all anymore now that weblogic is used, not even when 'export library' is checked in project 1. The library is simply never exported at all - with a noclassdeffound error as result. Is this approach still possible (without having to define multiple deployment profiles), or is this a bug?
    Thanks!
    Martijn

    Hi Ron,
    I've tried what you said, indeed in that .beabuild.txt when 'deploy by default' is checked it adds a line like: C:/JDeveloper/mywork/test2/lib/log4j-1.2.14.jar = test2-view-webapp/WEB-INF/lib/log4j-1.2.14.jar
    Which looks fine, except that /web-inf/lib/ is empty. I presume its a sort of mapping to say: Load it like it in WEB-INF/lib? This line is not there when the deploy by default is not checked.
    I modified the TestBean as follows (the method that references Log4j does it thru a Class.forName() now only):
    public String getHelloWorld() {
    try {
    Class clazz = Class.forName("org.apache.log4j.Logger");
    System.out.println(clazz.getName());
    catch(Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return "Hello World";
    In both cases with or without line, it throws:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.log4j.Logger

    Secondly I added weblogic.xml with your suggested code, in the exploded war this results in a weblogic.xml which looks like:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <weblogic-web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-web-app.xsd" xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/weblogic-web-app">
    <container-descriptor>
    <prefer-web-inf-classes>true</prefer-web-inf-classes>
    </container-descriptor>
    <jsp-descriptor>
    <debug>true</debug>
    <working-dir>/C:/JDeveloper/mywork/test2/view/classes/.jsps</working-dir>
    <keepgenerated>true</keepgenerated>
    </jsp-descriptor>
    <library-ref>
    <library-name>jstl</library-name>
    <specification-version>1.2</specification-version>
    </library-ref>
    <library-ref>
    <library-name>jsf</library-name>
    <specification-version>1.2</specification-version>
    </library-ref>
    </weblogic-web-app>
    The only thing from me is that container-descriptor tag, the rest is added to it during the deployment. Unfortunately, it still produces the same error. :/ Any clue?

  • Questions about ActiveX Bridge and SWT

    Hi !
    I found few weeks ago the www.reallyusefulcomputing.com site answering my question about Java & Macro of MSWord. Now I've found two steps that I am not able to overcome.
    First, when I build a simple application and I have internal libraries to use, am I compelled to place the jars in the lib/ext directory of the Java Runtime Directory? I have many difficulties in placing a convenient class-path in the manifest file. Why does the application ignore the manifest string?
    The second problem (and the biggest one) is that I am trying to build an SWT java-bean-application but I have problems during runtime. Is it possible to use this technology for my software or am I compelled to use AWT and SWING?
    I really hope you can help me.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Question about Weblogic

    Hello,
    I have a question about Weblogic and would like someone to help me with it.
    I created a JSP and everything was doing fine while i was testing it in Tomcat. But once I started the tests with Weblogic, it seemed Weblo wasn't accepting a class that i used to call from my JPS ( a sax parser). Instead of using my parser, Weblogic was using his default SAXParser, what causes problems to my JSP. Trying to solve this, I changed the classpath in Weblo and putted the jar of my parser in the beginning of the classpath, but it still didn't work. Does anyone have an idea of why Weblogic don't accept my parser and uses its default parser instead?
    Thanks in advance!!

  • A question about compiling

    Hello, i have a question about compiling. I always presumed that when a class is compiled and then run, the import statements just tell the executing JVM where to look in the JRE for the said imported classes before loading them into memory (is that correct?)
    What's confusing me is when happens when I write an applet which utilises the netscape.javascript.JSObject class (which after JRE 1.4.1 resides in the $JAVA/lib/plugins.jar). I have no idea what happens, as in does the relevant code get compiled into my .bin file or is that jar just referenced on the excecuting clients machine, and if the latter what happens if they are using a version before 1.4.2 where this class is residing in lib/jaws.jar, or does that not make any difference as the package names are still the same?
    You can see I'm confused and I think this highlights a fundamental gap in my knowledge,
    Thanks for any help!

    The classes are loaded on application start up. Not allways, no.

    If the JVM doesn't find the required class then your application probably won't have had a chance to try and catch the exception.That's exakery why we use reflections to try to load classes which may or may-not exist.
    PS: Had to do this with xerces classes to ensure we got the right version despite certain versions of Ant prepending it's version to my classpath, darn thing... sort of an "ehaustive search" for class definitions. Booger of an idea.

    I am an HP employee.

    My HP, purchased in June 2012, died on Saturday.  I was working in recently installed Photoshop, walked away from my computer to answer the phone and when I came back the screen was blank.  When I turned it on, I got a Windows Error Recovery message.  The computer was locked and wouldn't let me move the arrow keys up or down and hitting f8 didn't do anything.
    I'm not happy with HP.  Any suggestions?
