Question about Telnet (jakarta commons or general)

Sorry if I ask some basic questions but I am still learning.
With Telnet (or a Socket), you basically will open the Telnet - IP address and the port. One question, why is 23 used a lot? Anyhow, after opening it I would have to read the inputstream for "Login" then send it the login name, then read the inputstream for "Password" then send it the password?
Also I tried to use the Runtime.exec() to just execute telnet and sent an array of commands which included "telnet" "login" and "password" but I assume that was incorrect way of doing it, huh?

With Telnet (or a Socket), you basically will open
the Telnet - IP address and the port.The IP address is the IP of the host you wish to connect to . The port is a port where that host has a telnet server listening.
One question,
why is 23 used a lot?It was chosen as the default port for the telnet service by whatever standards body or other group selected these things.
When you enter a URL in your browser, you can explicitly specify a port. You normally don't because port 80 is the default, so that's what most web servers listen on.
Anyhow, after opening it I
would have to read the inputstream for "Login" then
send it the login name, then read the inputstream for
"Password" then send it the password? It wouldn't be two different input streams. You would just read from an input stream and write to an output stream.
Also I tried to use the Runtime.exec() to just
execute telnet and sent an array of commands which
included "telnet" "login" and "password" but I assume
that was incorrect way of doing it, huh?I don't know what the problem is, as I haven't seen your code and am not intimately familiar with the details of the telnet protocol. Google for telnet protocol spec or something like that and you shoud find all the gory details.
I haven't used the Net module from jakarta, but I expect it would hide a lot of that low-level detail from you.

  • Simple question about telnet and characters

    Hi all,
    We've installed for the first time a SUN machine. So i think it's for a SUN expert a very simple question.
    Normally when i type a special character it will be dispayed like " " [alt+132]
    But when i use a telnet session and i type "alt+132" i get a "d" and not "".
    Does someone know where i must start to find out how this works ?
    Thanks you very much.
    ESP

    This is probably related to the locale your server is in. I don't remember the default locale a box is installed in if you don't specify. I think its "C". I use the UTF-8 or en_US.ISO8859-1 locales at home. At work, usually C but sometimes applications may require UTF-8. BEA Weblogic required this for a project a while back. This is defined in /etc/init/tz.

  • A question about the Installation process in general

    Hey guys, a general question to the installation process.
    The following scenario:
    I install a programme on my macbook pro and don't tick all possible installation options (like additional content).
    Afterwards I change my mind and want to install the optional content.
    So I run the installation programme again and now the question:
    If I install the additional content AND the mainprogramme again is the main programme going to be overwritten or am I going to have the mainprogramme twice on my system from now on
    Thanks in advance for you help, folks!

    If you do a Unicode conversion (no matter in a UC & CU scenario or as a single project) the target system must be empty - means, you will create a new database and load it with the content you exported.
    You can't install the export into your already existing database with the same name.

  • Question about Jakarta common fileUploader

    Hello!
    I want to be able to upload files to my databas through a jsp-page and have beeing recommended to use Jakarta common fileUploader.
    When extracting that file I saw that there was a lot of files, should all files be put in my WEB_INF/classes/"mypachage"-catalogue or?
    Thanks in advance!
    /D_S

    I am not sure what you mean. When you downloaded the commons-fileupload-1.0.zip there should be some JavaDoc files and a jar file (commons-fileupload-1.0.jar). You dont need to unzip the jar file. Just place it in WEB-INF/lib so the classes will be load. You'll also need to add the jar file to you classpath (or IDE classpath) so that you can compile.
    (Adjust the file names for what ever version you are using)

  • General question about iTunes Match and multiple libraries

    Hello to everyone,
    I have a general question about the iTunes Match service, which is available since yesterday in my country (Italy). Currently my library situation is the following:
    Computer A (desktop, Windows 7): "big" iTunes library (about 20 GB), at the moment not associated with my Apple ID
    Computer B (MacBook Air 2011): "small" iTunes library (about 5 GB), associated with my Apple ID
    At the moment, both my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) are synchronized with the smaller library on the MacBook Air.
    Question is as follows: should I subscribe to iTunes Match, would it be possible to upload the "big" library (provided I associate it with my Apple ID) to iCloud while keeping my devices synchronized with the "small" one?
    Ideally, at the end of the day, the situation should be the following: both iOS devices with music from the small library + possibility of downloading songs from iCloud (coming from the big one). Is this possible?
    Maybe the question sounds stupid, but I want to be sure about this before paying for the service.
    Thanks a lot.

    Yes, you could also associate your larger library with iTunes match if you associated your Apple ID with it. However any purchases in the library made from another Apple ID will not be matched with iTunes much.
    If both libraries are part of iTunes match, then all your devices will see all of the content from both libraries, which content you choose to have on those devices and which you have accessible via iTunes match is entirely up to you.

  • General Questions about BI

    Hello,
    I want to get into SAP BI and have some questions about it.
    Is there a big downside in installing only the BI components without the Java BI components, or is it even possible if you want to work with BI. What are the general differences between BI and Java BI?
    I think the main aspects i will work with will be data warehousing and some basic reporting.
    The reason why i'm asking is that i want to run the BI components in the same system as the ECC Server (its just a test system). I read that the Java BI component needs EPC and EP and that would probably be too much for a single system (6 GB RAM).
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Martin

    Thanks for your hints, they were really helpful.
    As i mentioned i mainly want to work with the general Data Warehouse and Reporting capabilities, so i think it should be okay.
    Actually i'm planing to write about BI and SAP within my master thesis.
    Another question, what will be with SAP BI in the future regarding the Business Object acquisition? Is there still any point in learning SAP BI or will SAP BI disapear in the future? I heard that the basic BI functionality (e.g. Datawarehouse ) will still be used but the reporting capabilities  would be disappear. I'm not sure if that is right and i'm really new to this topic. So any comments are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Martin

  • Newbie question - general question about e-mail sync

    Hi,
    I have a general question about email sync and BlackBerry smartphones.  Are there any devices that allow email syncing with a Microsoft Exchange 2007 system that do not require the BlackBerry Enterprise server?
    Thanks; sorry if this has been asked before but I was unable to find it in the forums, documentation, etc.  Everything I found assumes that for this kind of environment you will be using a BlackBerry Enterprise solution, but I can't assume.
    Thanks again.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    If the Exchange server has anything that faces the internet (OWA, POP, IMAP), then BIS can be used to handle email (only email...calendar and contacts require BES to sync OTA).
    Or, a PC, inside the network (but with an internet path) and logged into the email server (using Outlook), can be left running, using the RIM Desktop Software's Desktop Redirector capability to forward  messages to the BB.
    Those are basically the options.
    Hope that helps! Let us know!

    Hello,

  • Java.io in J2ee stateless session bean, general questions about debugging

    Doing conventional Java IO (with java.io functions and classes such as
    PrintWriter and println) in a Enterprise bean has been discussed before
    in this and other forum. We know that the EJB specification says not to do it.
    (For example the EJB 2.0 spec, 24.1.2) says that an enterprise
    bean must not use the java.io package to attempt to access files and
    directories int he file system."
    The discussion in various forums including this one is that
    a) using java.io in a bean would impact portability, ability to
    move the bean for load balancing
    b) However, this is not always an an issue and it may be reasonable
    to use these functions anyway. e. g. see the response by "maozhoulu"
    on Jun 21, 2002.
    I tried it in Sun Application Server Nine in my stateless Session Bean:
    package RS;
    import RS.CourseHome;
    import RS.CoursePK;
    import java.rmi.RemoteException;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject;
    import javax.ejb.EJBException;
    import java.io.*;
    public class AddCourseBean implements javax.ejb.SessionBean {
       public void ejbCreate(){};
       public void CreateCourse (int CourseNumber, String CourseName) {
        try {
         System.out.println("in Create Course");
         PrintWriter F = null;
         try {
          F = new PrintWriter (new FileOutputStream("/tmp/v/af"));
         catch (java.io.FileNotFoundException fe){}
         F.println ("here zero");F.flush();
         InitialContext jndiContext = new InitialContext();
         F.println ("here one");F.flush();
         Object o = jndiContext.lookup("ejb/X");
             ...I got a Null pointer exception on the line:
    "F.println("here zero"); Is there anyway one can do simple debugging with print lines in one's beans?
    Or is there something obviousthat I am overlooking? (I saw mention of doing
    debugging with System.out.println but to where would the bean write?)
    I tried using the Jakarta Commons Logging, but I got a
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError on org/apache/commons/logging/LogFactory
    Which logging system does one use in GlassFish, hopefully one with minimal
    configuration? I want to do some debugging, not set up logging for a full
    enterprise system.
    Thanks for your insight and advice.

    My apology for posting this message twice. I looked for it before and
    did not see it. I thought I forget to click the "Post message" button.
    Also, I did resolve one problem. System.out.println does go to
    the log file, which in my case turned out to be:
    /opt/j2ee/SUNWappserver/domains/domain1/logs/server.log
    (Obvously, the first part would vary based upon where you installed your
    Application Server Nine.)
    However, it would be nice if there was some way to use FILE I/O inside of
    beans. I am teaching some J2EE in the graduate software engineering course,
    and I believe this would be pedagogically sound even if other techniques
    would be appropriate for a production environment.
    Thanks for your patience with this problem and my duplicate post.

  • Few common questions about Mobile Forms

    Hello, everyone!
    I have a few questions about mobile forms:
    Can a form be integrated with a portal, which is build NOT on Adobe CQ\AEM technology?
    I've created a form and loaded it to the server repository via Form Manager. Now I can access it in my browser like this:
    http://testlcserver:8080/lc/content/xfaforms/profiles/hrform.html?contentRoot=repository%3 A%2F%2F%2FApplications%2FTest%2F1.0&template=UberForm.xdp&dataRef=
    And the question is: what is the right way to share forms to users on a production environment (without integration in a portal pages on so on, let it be just a link to a form which users have to fill in)?  I mean, should it be the same link, or it is only for developers need and to share forms to users some other way must be used?

    For integrating on custom portal, you would need to integrate with form submit proxy for handling of submission as mentioned @ http://helpx.adobe.com/livecycle/help/mobile-forms/mobile-forms-service-proxy.html.
    As far as url of form is concerned, it’s really up you. You can choose to hide the request parameters as couple of other customers are doing. You can find more information about hiding form template and content root from request parameter @ http://blogs.adobe.com/foxes/hide-parameters-from-mobile-form-url/

  • Round trip workflow with proxies between Premiere and AE / a more general question about how these programs work?

    Hi all,
    I'm new to editing with proxies in Premiere and have some questions about how to handle the relationship with After Effects. Say I have a rough cut (with proxies) and I want to send it to AE to do some effects. The simplest thing to do seems to be to replace the proxies with the originals in Premiere, send the project to AE and do my thing. But if I then want to send the project back to Premiere, it will involve the original files, which are too machine-intensive for me to edit. In theory, it seems like there should be a way to send the project with original footage to AE, do effects, send it back to Premiere, and then replace it with proxies to do further editing while retaining the effects.
    This leads to a confusion about how AE works. When I do an effect, am I correct in assuming that it does nothing to the original file? If that's the case, it seems like it shouldn't matter (in the editing stage) what file AE "applies" an effect to (proxy or original). But I feel like there's a hitch in this workflow. The same question could also be asked about going back and forth in Speed Grade.
    Perhaps there is no real answer to this and the best option is to save effects and grading for after I have picture lock, but sometimes that's not entirely possible or convenient, etc.
    Hopefully this makes some sense—It's a little hard to explain.
    Thanks.

  • General question about Mac hardware

    Hello. I have always used Windows. I am considering picking up a used Macbook. I have some questions about hardware. Chiefly, is there a specific reason that Apple is still dedicated to the Core2Duo processors, even in the highest-end Pros? With the advent of the Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, many PC laptop manufacturers have embraced them, especially the better mainstream manufacturers, like Sony and Toshiba. I know a lot about Windows, but I don't know much about OSX.
    Is there something in the software that allows for a Core2Duo on OSX to run as efficiently or more so than an i3 or i5 on Windows 7? As it stands, comparing strict hardware profiles (processors in particular) between what appear to be equivalent current Macbooks and Windows 7 PCs, the Sonys and Toshibas seem to have a distinct advantage.
    Sorry if this is a tired question or whatever. Believe me, I'm not asking "WHAT'S BETTER? A MAC OR A PC?" Really.
    Many thanks to anyone who can point me to an answer.
    Chris

    Well, as to if there is anything that makes OS X run better on the C2D rather than a i3 or i5. I have never use an i3 based computer, but the i5 mac I used was very fast (tried the i5 27" iMac). I don't know why they are currently still using the C2D over that. I can say that the i5 didn't feel any faster, even the quad core Mac pro didn't feel faster. The main advantage to more cores will be in doing more at once. This makes the biggest difference is seen when running things like video editors. There is also a lot more to making the computer fast than just the CPU, the chipset, system bus, video card, and hardware controllers all make a huge difference. Apple has always used very good quality hardware, there have even been times where MacBook Pros have been rated as the best laptops to run Windows. But OS X will run faster on the same hardware because it is a more streamlined OS that uses the hardware more efficiently. Apple works hard to make the OS work as well as it looks, and Snow Leopard runs very well on the current hardware. I have no doubt that Apple will in the near future come out with something newer and better, but my guess is as good as anyone's as to what chip they will use.

  • Trying a comprehensive jakarta-commons PKGBUILD....

    Hey there!
    I would like to build a PKGBUILD for a nice java banking program. On the way to a Arch-conform PKGBUILD I stumbled over the Java Package Guidelines and investigated the libs which are shipped with the program a bit further.
    There I found that some jars from the jakarta commons package were used but not yet packaged in AUR or the official repos. So first I wanted to build them separately, but then I found that it would make more sense to have one comprehensive package of (currently) 30MB instead of 33 single packages.
    What do you think about the idea? I am willing to support this meta package as well as the single ones if I just knew how the implementation would be more sensible.
    Since it would be a huge amount of work to pack every packag on its own, I wrote a PKGBUILD for all packages that are in Jakarta Commons.
    I hope, if it is generally desired to have any package in a single file, that I at least learnt a bit from writing this PKGBUILD

    Since there are sometimes when copy&pasting PKGBUILDS (especially the ""s, IIRC), here a link to a pastebin
    My questions are: Are the jars to be put in /usr/share/java/jakarta-commons/$package/*.jar or plainly under jakarta-commons?
    Is it ok to delete all the docs, licenses + readmes?
    Sorry but it's very late now so I'll stop here and wait for your suggestions and tips, which will come hopefully..
    Greetings and good night,
    jakob

    Your absolutely right saying that never all commons packages would be used by just one program.
    I read the Java Packaging Guidelines again and it says that only commoly used and major libs should be sourced out to single packages. So the question is: Do any other packages in AUR or the official repos use some of the jakarta-commons projects so it would eventually pay to make single packages for them, or isn't it worth the hussle?
    I for my part now will leave the libs that are bundled with the package I wanted to upload at first in the package and use them.
    Thanks for your reply

  • Legality questions about Home Sharing

    I have some legality questions about Apple's Home Sharing technology.
    As I understand it, you can share (that is, copy it from one computer to another) your music, movies, applications and other iTunes-managed files amongst five computers. The only 'trick' is that each computer must have an iTunes Store account and must be logged in in order for it to work.
    My question concerns the copying aspect and the legality of it. For content that was purchased through the iTunes Store I can see how Home Sharing can provide a limitation on content sharing, since all of the machines would need to be connected to Apple's servers in order for the validation process to happen. But what about content that was added to iTunes through other means, e.g., ripping my own CDs or converting my DVDs? These items can still be copied via Home Sharing and as there's no DRM on them there's no way they can be protected against "illegal" or "unauthorized" use.
    It was my understanding that if I gave a copy of a song to someone else, that's illegal. Apple's Home Sharing technology seems to facilitate this action. If I rip a CD or DVD into iTunes and someone copies it out, isn't that making an illegal copy? Can I be held liable for distribution of content?
    And how far does this extend? If I live in a house with four unrelated people, are they legally (?) allowed to copy music and media amongst each another? Is there a perceived or actual difference between using Home Sharing to copy a movie versus, say, using a USB flash drive? And what if one of them moves out? Am I legally obligated to go through that person's hard drive and remove content that they copied from me before they leave the building?
    Does Home Sharing somehow retroactively change the copyright application on a given CD or DVD? Most of my CDs and DVDs contain notices and warnings against distributing copies. Can these warnings now be ignored, or at least amended with "...unless you're using iTunes Home Sharing" at the ends of them?
    I am not trying to stir up a hornet's nest here. I'm only trying to better understand the legal issues surrounding Home Sharing and particularly how they relate to unprotected content. It seems very contradictory that the RIAA and MPAA would be fighting so hard against peer-to-peer services like BitTorrent and Gnutella while apparently allowing peer-to-peer services through iTunes Home Sharing.
    Furthermore, I also understand that the intention of this system was to allow families who are living together to have common access to all of the "household" music, but my issues aren't about this. I envision, for example, a college dorm building where there's several hundred people living together on the same network subnet, and all of them have Home Sharing enabled and everyone is copying thousands and thousands of songs to/from one another. Is this now legal?
    Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

    If I rip a CD or DVD into iTunes and someone copies it out, isn't that making an illegal copy?
    RIPping of commercial, encrypted DVDs (most of them) is illegal to begin with. Or rather, breaking the encryption on a DVD is illegal and in order to RIP the DVD, you must break the encryption. SO you have already "broken the law" by having a copy on your computer.
    Most of my CDs and DVDs contain notices and warnings against distributing copies.
    Most of your DVDs have a notice about even simply making a copy, not only distributing copies.
    Much of your post has been cussed and discussed by many, many people (lawyers, corporations, organizations, individuals, etc.) and no one has come (or likely ever will come) to a complete agreement.
    Generally, "sharing" in the same house hold amongst family members seems to be okay. Outside the same household/family is almost always not okay.
    I envision, for example, a college dorm building where there's several hundred people living together on the same network subnet, and all of them have Home Sharing enabled and everyone is copying thousands and thousands of songs to/from one another. Is this now legal?
    No.
    This is exactly what Napster was and why they were sued & shut down.
    I imagine Apple lawyers have done their homework as well as consulted with the labels to discuss these exact issues.
    And it's called "Home Sharing" to indicate that it is not "Dorm Sharing" or "Workplace Sharing", or even simply "Library Sharing"etc. even though it may be possible to use it in other places than the Home.
    Users on other computers need to know your iTunes ID and password to enable it Home Sharing. Likely this is how Apple got the lables to be okay with it.
    Are you gonna give (and get) dozens/hundreds/thousands/any other users your iTunesID & password?
