Question marks in outgoing emails for multibyte characters

I have an application that stores and displays Japanesse characters correctly on the screen. But when I try to email them, the characters come out as ?????.
I am on version 4.02.
I am setting the following items at the top:
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8
The body is started with a <html> tag.
Any ideas?

  • Verizon marking my outgoing email as spam; thanks, thanks a lot

Is anyone else as sick as I am of Verizon's "know more than you" "big brotherish" attitude to us customers.
I'm trying to send email (not mass, just one email) to a client, and Verizon marks it as spam.
This is a critical email the customer is expecting.  Couple of links in the emai.
Fios is nice, but not THAT nice if I can't even send a freakin' email... I might as well go back to Earthlink or Cox!  In fairness, about 95% of my outgoing email goes through just fine, but 2-3 times per week, when I send an email to someone, I get the dreaded {word filter avoidance}response from Verizon which says...
and yes, i send the "offending" email off to the {word filter avoidance} genius people at [email protected], but can you contact these ivory tower {word filter avoidance}?  No.
No, the only thing we can do is hope and pray these jerko**s unblock us and let our email get through.
    Verizon, if you're listening...{word filter avoidance}

This is not a personal attack, but your answer “free email solutions” doesn’t fly.
I pay for email service from Verizon. The cost of Verizon e-mail is built in to the dsl service.
Yes, e-mail from Verizon is advertised as a “free” service. However…
You can only get that “free email” if you purchase service.
    And that’s not free.

    First, the good news:
I rarely get spam from the Verizon server (I have 6 accounts/sub-accounts thru Verizon, using outlook express, 1 or 2 spam a month).
    The bad news:
I have enhanced dsl and have been experiencing random spam blocks.
Yes, I took the time to read the spam faqs and dozens of the postings in this forum.
Yes, I have the latest setting for outlook express http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Internet/fiosinternet/email/setup+and+use/questionsone/...
    Yes, I know the e-mail limits, 100 names per e-mail, 500 e-mails per hour
    https://my.verizon.com/central/vzc.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=vzc_help_policies&id=EmailPolicy
Yes, I have repeatedly sent the same email to [email protected]
I understand the difficulty of filtering spam, but it seems there should be means test that says if I send 1 email to 1 person, that’s probably not spam. After all, if the spam filter is really just a program, then it is using a numerical assessment, and the parameter has been set to ignore this..
Thank you for your time to help, but telling paying customers we don’t really have that good  of service  as we advertise, isn’t a solution, it’s an excuse.
    Respectfully,
    Norm
As a fellow paying customer (note that this is a peer-to-peer forum), I'm not making excuses. I'm stating facts. There are free email offerings that are better than ISP provided email. Period.
If you want to use Verizon's email, that's your choice. If you want to switch to another ISP and use their sub-par email product, that is also your choice.
It just doesn't make sense to me to trade excellent internet for not-as-fantastic internet just to use a "better" email product when there are actual better email products available for free that are not ISP-dependent.

  • IPhoto email shows question mark instead of email template

I sent some photos using iPhoto last night, i have gmail account i use to send photos. I learned after i had emailed the photos through iPhoto my receipts received the email with a question mark instead of the iPhoto template. I tried sending a couple to myself and my wife (she has hotmail if it matters) but all of them showed the question mark i attached a photo below. Any help in fixing this would be great.

  • How do I get rid of the question marks in my emails

I run a business on my computer & I have serveral people tell me that when they get my emails, it has a lot of question marks all thoughout the message.
sometimes other symbols as well. It makes me look as if I am really confused when I am sending my emails to my team.
Can anyone tell me how to fix it?
Also some say my attachments do not come with my emails???

It sounds like maybe you are using a text encoding that your team's email clients cant understand.
If you go to the Message menu, and select "Text Encoding" down at the bottom of the menu, you should get a long list of encodings.
Set it to "Automatic", if its not already, and see if that helps.
If it does not, try some of the encodings that start with "Western". "Western (Windows Latin 1)" may be a good choice if most of the people on your team use Outlook on Windows. Try "Unicode" down at the bottom if nothing else works. If none of these help, set it back to "Automatic".
Im assuming (because of your Texas location) that your team members are here in the states. If not, if they are, say in Japan, China, Korea, Russia, etc., then one of the other encodings on the menu may help.

  • I get a question mark next to email addresses when I try to send a meeting request and it fails

Outlook 2010, standard Win 7 setup.
I am trying to send a meeting request and when I bring up the address book to insert email addresses it seems to insert the address but it has a gray question mark next to it.  Sending then fails. Even an email address manually typed in gets the question
    mark.
Odd thing is that from a regular email I can insert the same address from the same contact list and it works fine.
Why does it fail in meeting invites by not in email?

    Hi,
When you hover your mouse pointer on the mark, or click on it, do you see any hint?
When sending the meeting request fails, do you see any error message?
If you are an Exchange account user, try to send a request to the people in your organization, I suppose it works.
Just a guess, try to clear the nickname and the automatic completion caches to test the result:

  • Question Mark with Blue Squares for pictures in Safari 3 Beta

    Every time i go to...
    Welcome to GMail/Log-In
which is gmail.com... I get tiny blue boxes with question marks in them, and this only occurs in safari. I also use firefox sometimes and it works perfectly fine. they are not even big pictures, just tiny icons.
I have looked at several forums from apple.com/support as well as googling this issue and have tried reseting safari, unchecking always and never cookies settings but still have the problem.
    Can anyone please help me?!?
    THANKS

    Hi,
What version of Safari are using? As far as I'm aware Safari 3 left beta a long time ago.
Either way, try changing your DNS settings to those provided by OpenDNS to see if it helps or not:

  • I keep getting blue question marks in my email

I keep getting blue question marks in my e mails

The message may be talking about icloud storage -or- available memory on your device.
Go to Settings>General>Usage to see how much "Storage" you have available.  Farther down the list is the available storage on iCloud.
    Also check:
Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage; there, tap the device you need info on and the resulting screen lists Backup Options with which apps store data on iCloud.
A device needs many MB of storage in order to perform a backup to iCloud.

  • Marking outgoing emails for follow-up

    Hi,
A lot of the email I send out are messages I need to follow up on at a later stage. Right now, my approach is to review my outbox every week and then read every message I sent to catch up on any developments (yay for 'organize by conversation') and either archive if case closed or follow up. It's a bit tedious and requires me to read a lot of messages I shouldn't have to. It also means that in some cases I am sitting with somebody in my team and I'll miss an opportunity to check on status because I haven't added the issue to my 'to do' app yet.
What I'm looking for is this ...
While I'm composing a new message or writing a response to an existing message, I want to be able to mark this message for follow-up.
Here is what I've done so far ...
I know I can mark a message with a flag after it has been sent. But those are a significant number of added clicks and not a very elegant solution.
Same goes for tools like MailHub, which let me mark emails after they have been sent.
I've considered writing a script that gets triggered upon email send, popping up a dialog asking to flag the message or not. With Mail Act-On, I can run scripts that way. Better, but could get rather annoying quite quickly.
I've found MailTags, but it slows down Mail and the horrid user interface makes my eyes hurt.
And while the keynote showing off Mavericks had me hoping the tags would be in Mail too, I installed the beta and it seems there is no tag support included in Mail. I guess one can hope it will get added before final release, but I am thinking it will not be.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who faces this situation.
    Any recommendations?
    cheers,
    Rob

  • Setup outgoing email for RoadRunner

I use OS X Mavericks and Mail on my MacBook Pro.  I have setup my RoadRunner account and receive mail without any issues for several months, however I have never been able to send mail from my MAC using the RoadRunner account.  A dialogue box is constantly telling me that my settings are incorrect.
    I tried:
    smtp-server.cinci.rr.com
    smtp-server-cinci.rr.com
I have tried both by forcing the 587 Socket, using the default sockets, using each socket separately.  I have tried all of this with/without password authentication and with/without SSL checked.
I am at a loss.  Some of these settings cause me to stop receiving as well.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

After several months I have found the answers.
For OS X Mavericks Mail, I used the following:
    Roadrunner SMTP server
    smtp-server.cinci.rr.com
    Use Default Ports
    Uncheck “Use Secure Socket Links”
    Authentication:  Password
    User Name: [email protected]
    Entered my Password
I am away from home and not using the Time Warner network, so I might have to change something when I get back home.  Everything working fine now.
I then experimented with MS Outlook 2011 for MAC and found the following works for Outlook:
    1. Roadrunner SMTP server
         a) smtp-server.cinci.rr.com
         b) Override Default Port (Default Port was 25)
         c) Use Port 587
         d) Uncheck “Use Secure Socket Links”
    2. Select “More Options” Button
    3. Authentication:  User Name and Password
    4. User Name: [email protected]
    5. Entered my Password
So far so good.  Might have to change when I get back to Cincinnati from my trip.
