Question on client side authentication

Does anyone have recommendation for a good way to do client side
authentication in a java application and pass it through to the application
server for RMI calls? I can use JAAS to authenticate the user on the client
side but how do I get the user principal to pass through to the weblogic
server as part of the RMI call.

Having problem with client side Authentication.

Hi,
I am haveing a problem enabling client side authentication with SSL on
weblogic 5.1.
I have set up the .properties files as explained, however it appears
my client is not sending a certificate back to the server. The same
client however works perfectly (using the same keystore file) with a
sample ClassFileSErver webserver from the jsse distribution. (the
client is a very slightly modified version of
SSLSocketClientWithClientAuth sample that comes with Jsse)
Below I've included a section of the debug dump from the interactions.
The only other difference I can see is the cipher suites offered by
the servers.
Weblogic offers type 0 or 9, and agrees on type 9
(SSL_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA), whereas ClassFileServer offer type 0 or 5
and settles on type 5 (SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_SHA).
I am using the same keystore for both examples. Both servers request
an RSA client cert.... I'm out of ideas.
Any help would be greatfully received.

This explains how to properly setup the HTTPURLLOC table.
In your case you should have entries that look something like this:

In addition you need to run the report to determine if the proxy configuration is setup properly. The URL should be run with the
https://<externalhostname>/sap/bc/bsp/sap/system_test/test_proxy.htm

Client side authentication, 2 sided SSL

Hi,
Is using client side SSL auth. effective when working (via webservice) with a load balancer (SSL termination) that passes requests to a server connected to it?
Is this ok? considered a best practice? does the client side certificate add any security?

I agree with you sabre150. However, I was restricting my comments to the authentication part of Access Control (which I once defined in a book as being a three-part protocol dance, where every part is related, but independent):
i) Identification - where someone claims to be somebody who needs access to a resource;
2) Authentication - where that someone has to prove they are who they claim to be; and
3) Authorization - where the system determines if that authenticated entity is authorized to access the resource.
Sending the Client SSL certificate is Identification (anyone can do this so it doesn't prove anything). Digitally signing the nonce sent by the server is the proof (and the Authentication part of the dance). Verifying authorization is completely separate from the authentication part of the decision (which is what you referred to).
Many people confuse all three steps as "authentication" because it happens seamlessly on most systems; but in reality, they are distinct parts that can be interchanged - you can use a username-string as an identifier, a password as an authenticator and a UNIX group membership for authorization. You can also use an LDAP DN as an identifier, a digital signature as an authenticator and a XACML rule-set for authorization - and so on.
In the end, a system must do all three parts of the dance to provide access to protected resources; SSL ClientAuth focuses on only the authentication part of the dance; and for SSL ClientAuth to be considered secure, the protection of the Private Key becomes the single most important determinant. Everything after the verification of the digital signature is an authorization decision (which you pointed out).
(Sorry for the long answer, but I often make mistaken assumptions that cause me to write more cryptically than I should).

Popping up a dialog box on client side for authentication in a proxy server

hi all,
we have wriiten a code for proxy server.now we want to add the authentication code in the same which will authenticate client by popping up a dialog box on the client side.though no code runs on the client side.only the client has to open the browser and enter the credentials.
we dont know how to pop up this authentication window on the client side when he requsts for the service.
Its almost like a SQUID where the pop up box appears.

Client side firewall via GPO question

I am in the process of testing a new client side firewall that will be enforced via GPO, domain, public and private. So here is my question, I would like to remove all firewall rules that have been added locally. I have set firewall merging to "No"
to not allow local firewall config. So on my test machine, the firewall GPO is in effect, it is enforcing the rules i have configured so far, however, it does not remove the rules that were present prior to testing.
Here is a piece of an article i found while researching;

Reading that, it appears as though even though the local user can create a rule, example: Skype, that rule wont actually work due to the firewall being enforced by GPO and merging not allowed? Is that correct?
Also, is there a way to completely remove all firewall rules that are not pushed from the GPO?

SERVER_MS_NOT_AVAILABLE Internal error during authentication - client side

Hi Experts,
I reviewed the various threads here concerning this topic, and not found one that fits my situation. We have a well functioning SAP-PI 7.11 landscape, and normally 10+ support team members connecting with no issues. Except for a 2nd PC i have just installed. Our normal desktop is Corporate imaged XP PC. my problem child though is a Linux PC (I would think it should be the other way around ) Anyway the Linux box uses the exact same LAN, same DHCP, same DNS server as it's XP brethen. it connects to the http portion of PI just fine, but fails with the SERVER_MS_NOT_AVAILABLE error when I attempt to connect to the ESB or IB. Just to be safe I have placed the FQDN of the PI hosts into the Linux hosts file. no effect. What am I missing? Anyone else ever see this? suggestions on troubleshooting?

Yes I reviewed it and several others. I am confident alll our sever side settinsg are correct otherwise the exiting Pcs would not be connecting. The only item that applies to the client side is #4 - using the FQDN on the local hosts file, which I have already tried.

the answers to the form be emailed.
However, they host their own pages on a microsoft-based
server that
has no perl library, VB library, etc.
Is there a way to do a form and generate an email totally on

client side with no server based application needed
whatsoever?

You can create a simple mailto: link on the form that will
invoke the client
mail program but it is not that reliable. However if they are
hosting using
IIS it does have built in mail capability via CDO using an
ASP page, or it
can be set up to run ASP.Net with its mail handling scripts.

to delete the data bits after they're viewed?)

How to Print Crystal Report without any dialog message on the client side

I have three buttons, "Generate Report", "Generate PDF", "Print".
I want when the "Print" button was clicked, automaticaly the report is printed using default printer, like PrintToPrinter function, but in the client side.

If you search for previous posts about this, you will see many posts saying not possible. If this functionality was possible, you could essentially have a page that would send something to a clients printer just by visiting the page, how bad of security hole would that be?

I have a requirement where I need to add client-side scripting in an HTML page to be supported by Safari on iPad that creates a private / public key pair and that creates a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) in PKCS#10 or SPKAC format that can be sent to a certification authority server using form HTTP/POST that will then return the generated certificate.
I initially thought that I could simply use the HTML 5 tag <keygen> which can do exactly what I need, but unfortunately this tag is not at all supported on mobile Apple devices like iPad or iPhone, so I have to look for another solution.
I have noticed that the KeyChain tool should be available on iPad using the documented API, but I have no idea based on the documentation whether the API can be called from client-side HTML scripting on iPad.
Question : is it technically possible using the functionalities and API's exposed on an iPad to implement what I just described in HTML client-side scripting? If so, do you have some links with useful information that can help me on my way?

Why does IE8 running on XP and Win7 Virtual Machine deletes the history while I'm still browsing the same site with client-side hashbang routing?

I have a asp.net mvc 5 web application running on .net 4.5 hosted on my local windows 8 machine on macbook pro using parallels. I'm running Internet Explorer 8 Version: 8.0.6001.18702 running on XP and Version: 8.0.7601.17514 running on Windows 7 Enterprise.
I've got both of the virtual machine source from www.modern.ie
My web application is attempting to provide single page user experience by having some client-side routing by using '#!/xxx' hashbangs in the url so that I can get and post via ajax and change the hash in the url without causing the page to reload. My
code works fine in IE9+ and other modern browsers.
However, I'm facing this strange issue in both of the IE8 versions. When running my demo app in IE8, I can login, view home page and can navigate from this home page to many details page. From the very first login page, all the pages are the result
of form's post action via ajax which then expects html from server and loads in the DOM. The page structure of my app is like summary form => Details page (can also contain summary forms) => Details...so on.
The above process works fine for few of the navigation steps. If I keep navigating from one page to another & go back, I have observed that the browser back button is removing the history items slowly. And a time comes when it totally forgets about
all the history pages that I visited to reach this current page I'm viewing!! It treats like I have just started my browsing session and this current page is the first page I've landed on with no back option. Now if I again try to navigate, I have encountered
problems like both the back and forward buttons gets disabled.
Hope, my words above is clear enough to explain this problem. The same application works fine in IE9+ and other browsers.
Till now, I have tried following steps on both VMs:
Resetting IE8.
Increasing disk space to 1024mb for temporary internet files storage.
Setting 'Never' for Check for newer versions of stored pages.
Disabling the automatic crash recovery feature didn't helped in this case. Found this on support website.
Deleted temporary files, history, cache, etc many a times.
Search many forums, posted question on StackOverflow, ASP.NET
Forums - but didn't helped.
Tried 'beforeunload' event of browser to see if any of the page is reloading because of submit or any other reason. But the page doesn't reload at all.
The issue is browser forgets about the browsing history while I'm still browsing the same site.
Is there any possible fix for the issue above? Does IE8 have any issues as many ajax form post is happening on every page?

I have really tried many things to identify any possible reason of the issue above. Even rewrote all my javascript navigation code and checked server-side code.
But the only place where I got the solution is at site: http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/bugs.asp which states that there is a bug in IE8 which reads like:
IE0012: IE Travellog broken when navigating back/away from a page with
a large POST form If there is a form input field with a value longer
than 523,659 characters, when you navigate away from the page, IE may
clear the current session's travellog (similar to history), disabling
the back and forward buttons. Repros in IE6 & IE7.
There are following solutions that you can go for:
- Check for the input field that has lots of characters as mentioned above and solve your problem.
- If you have control over the system where IE8 will be used, you can add the following registry key on that machine. There is no existing key, so, you need to add a new one:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TravelLog] "MaxSize"=dword:ffffffff

Read and write info from/to file available at client side.

Hi,
I have some table name in one CSV file at client side.
once you get list of tables name from input CSV file at client side.
Need to run one query to know total rows and size of table in MB , this i need to repeat for all tables which i got from input file.
finally write 'table name | total rows | size of table in MB' whole info in another CSV file at client side. this output CSV file name will contain timestamp.
Please guide me in detail how to read and write file avail at client side.
I am using sql developer at client side.
version : oracle11g

Client Side Javascript Validation not Working in Struts 1.x version

hi,
I'm following the steps provioded in the below link for Javascript Client side validation but still it is not working.I'm struggling to get this work.

"The framework automatically generates the browser specific JavaScript and validate the data only at the client side."From the above statement i undertstand that framework itself generates the javascript function for validating the field mentioned in validations.xml file so that we dont have to explicitly write a javascript function for
validating the fields
(or)
Do we need to call an explicit function
Please need help on this.

Is XML-SQL Utility for Java run on Client Side?

A question about the XML-SQL Utility for Java
When a client program connect to a Oracle database (the clinet program and Oracle DB is run on two different machine. Oracle 8i is used) and use the oracle.xml.sql.query.OracleXMLQuery Class (form the XSU) to generate XML by given a SQL query. I want to know the transforation process is execute in the Clinet side or the database?
Is there any method that i can retrieve the XML directly from the database rather then doing the transformation form the Client side?

Set JDK_HOME to the directory where you install your JDK (Java Development Kit).
So instance, I've install JDK1.1.8 on my
C drive so
