Question on navigational attribute ?

Hi all ,
we have turn-off some navigational attributes from 0MATERIAL ,
my questin is is it necessary to reload the full data or not ?
or
is it enough to run the attribute change run ?

When you turn on Navigation Attributes , the additional fields are included into the X and Y tables and hence especially when you transport these changes to an IOBJ which is very large - you will need to make sure you have enough undo table space etc..
The same this applies to removing Nav Attributes... the X and Y tables will get rebuilt and if the IOBJ is very big - I would recommend taking additional precautions like monitoring unto tablespaces etc when transporting the same.
Also as an additional step - run the attribute change run once the transport is done - you need not reload any master data.

Navigational attribute in Cube

Hi Gurus,
I want to understand one point before I am going to perform a small enhancement.
I need to set a navigational attribute in a cube(before it is not checked on "I/O") meaning make this navigational attribute behave as a char., but this cube contains data already, my question is :
can I make this change ? if yes any other additional effort?

Hi Ryan,
The attr needs to be marked and activated as Navigational Attr in the parent char first. Then you can mark it as nav attr in the cube (which contains the parent char). Does not matter if the cube contains data...you can do this activity in a cube with data. Remember to reactivate the cube's update rules and any multiproviders that it is a part of after you make this change.

Poor Performance with Webi on top of BW - Large Navigational Attributes

We have recently developed a reporting model based on having a BW cube of approx 20 million records. This has 2 very large line item dimensions (one 14 million records, on 6 million records) that both have navigational attributes stored against them.
We need the design to be like this because the attributes change monthly and we do not wish to do a complete drop and reload of cube data each month (this takes 10-12 hours).
When we build a Universe on top of the cube and try Webi reporting the performance is dreadful - many reports time out completely. This happens whether or not the large line item dimensions are selected in the query. The BW query is very simple just 2 key figures and approx 30 Navigational Attributes as default values. No filters are applied.
For example a query that just contains Calander Year and one key figure either times out after 10 minutes or fails.
Our source of the data is Oracle tables and the same query runs in 2 1/2 minutes and the query runs in RSRT in approx 5 minutes with no problems so it is definately a problem with BOBJ to MDX to BW.
We are on BW7.01 SP5 and XI3.1 SP2. SAP have recommend going to SP3 and using query stripping to help with this but I doubt if this will work.
We have tried building aggregates, splitting into yearly cubes etc but nothing seems to help.
My question is do the large navigational attributes mean Webi simply can't cope with this?

Although this did not directly help I've now found a solution.
We had a calculated key figure in the query that doing a count of records on a huge navigational attribute. This was causing all queries to run very slowly (even if the key figure wasn't selected in Webi).
Removing it solved the problem. Will have to find another way to do the count key figure.

Error while changing the Display Attribute into Navigational Attribute

Hi all.. Gud Mrng.
I was changed the attribute (product) from display attribute into navigational attribute and while save and activating the info object it is not getting activated and it is throwing the below error message.
Error Message: u201CThe Info object is being used in several data targetsu201D
My Questions:
i) Do I need to delete the data from all the data targets (where this info object is using)??
ii) Do I need to delete data only from the main info object (Zmaterial)? Is this single action enough?
Please suggest me which action I need to follow & What are the precautions need to take while changing the Display Attribute (product) into Navigational attribute of info object (Zmaterial).

Only in case of key figures we cannot change it from display to navigational.
If the info object is a characteristics then in the General tab of the info object if you select 'attribute only' then the iobj would be a display attribute only. If you leave it unmarked then you can use the iobj as a navigational atribute.
I am sure you know that these settings only mean if a IOBJ can be used as display or navigational. To use it as a navigational within another object you will have to change the settings from 'DIS' to 'NAV' for the said info object in the 'Attributes' tab of its parent info object.
Further if you use the parent info object in any data target / infio provider you will have to further mark the info object as 'navigational' while defining the attrbute of the said data target / info provider. The info object gets displayed in the data target / info provider attribute properties as 'parent IOBJ_info object'

Still i have little bit confusion on this.
Wat i understood is, Nav Attr behaves like a characterstic in Reporting, wat my doubt is instead of creating Nav Attr why don't we go for Creating that as a characterstic.
If we create a field as a navigational attribute from where it fetches the data during the reporting.
If i created a fiels as a characterstic from where it fetches the data during reporting.

A NAV is already a characteristic.
I believe that your question is more: why don't we store the characteristic directly in the InfoProvider instead of reporting on a NAV.
Suppose you sell articles (the basic char; CAMCORDER XYZ)
Suppose each article has an attribute "STATUS" = LIVE or DISCONTINUED.
Now you load your sales in a sales cube; you post the selling date, the article ID and it's status. When the article has been just listed (in JAN) to your shop it has the status LIVE, so you'll post something like
JAN__CAMCORDER XYZ__LIVE__$100
Now the status is set to discontinued by a buyer in FEB. Still you sell the remaining pieces:
FEB_CAMCORDER XYZ_DISC_$2000
Interesting to see that your cube can tell the turn over of this CAMCORDER depeding on its status over time.
Now the buyers might be interested to report only on LIVE articles.
Obviously filtering a query on STATUS = LIVE will still show $100 turn over in JAN, even if the article is now discontinued.
This is when the NAV enters into the into the game. If you enable the attribute STATUS as NAV of MATERIAL in your provider and filter you query ON MATERIAL__STATUS = LIVE, the CAMCORDER XYZ won't show up anymore.
just adding: during reporting, the X table of your basic char will give the SID of your NAV. Reporting with NAV add joins between tables, which can impact performance if not tuned properly.

F4 Input values for variables based on Navigation Attributes

Hi,
We would like to use the option "Q Only Posted values for navigation" from the set F4 mode 'Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn' in the Multiprovider specific properties.
The problem is that this option Works for Infoobject stored on the infocube, but It doesn't work for Navigation Attributes.
Question : Could you please tell us how to use the option "Q Only Posted values for navigation" with _Navigation Attributes _ ?

The input help only offers values for which you can select data in the current navigational state

Help with use if navigational attributes in ABAP code

I have a question for you all. I have a master data object called SC_PRIO, that have an attributes called "IN_DEADL". The attributes is sett to "navigational attributes, and are showing its value when I look at the data content of the DSO.
I would like to use the value from the attributes "IN_DEADL" in the formula describe under, but it will not work when like this. I have defined it like this "COMM_STRUCTURE-/BIC/IN_DEADL", but it failes. Anyone that can help me? There has to be something special when using attributes from a master data infoobjects....
DATA:
l_duration LIKE COMM_STRUCTURE-/BIC/INC_DUR_D.
l_duration = COMM_STRUCTURE-/BIC/INC_DUR_D / 3600.

Can you please tell me if the InfoObject IN_DEADL is user defined/Custom. If it is custom only then your case is bound to work. If it is Std IO, then you need to remove the '/BIC/' and just use the IO name.
Eg : IF l_duration > COMM_STRUCTURE-IN_DEADL.
Also if it is an attribute of someother IO and is not present in the communication strucuture you need to get it from the master data table of the Original IO.

Navigation Attributes

dear All,
Is there any thumb rule to decide whether a characteristic should be defined as an attribute/navigational attribute.
the reason is from a realignment point of view, navigational attributes can be easily realigned by just updating the master data. For plain attributes, we need to carry out the realignment.
Can i use navigational attributes in planning?

Hi Kedar,
You cant plan using navigational attributes.You can do one thing if you really want to plan using navigational attributes convert them to separate characteristics and can start planning.
Regarding realignment , you cant do realignment for attributes you need to convert them to characteristics in order to plan.

Adding navigational attribute in multiprovider

I've created multiprovider. When I try to drag and drop the navigational attribute from the infoprovider available in the multiprovider to the navigational attribute folder, it does not move so. Please tell me how to add navigational attribute, dimensions in the multiprovider.

Adding navigational attribute in Info Object.

My staging layer is as below.
Data source1-> DSO1
Data source2-> DSO1
Data Source 3->DSO1
From DSO1 : there are 3 Transformaitons.
DSO -> Info Object “ABC”
DSO1- > DSO2.
DSO1 -> DSO3.
That means. DSO1 , is supplying data to ABC info object and 2 more DSO's.
I need to Enhance Data Source 1, with Field “X” add it in DSO and then add that field in Navigational attribute of IO “ABC.
I dont need this field “X” in DSO2 and DSO3.
Question :
1) I want to understand its effect on Transformations if I add field in DSO1.
Data source2-> DSO1
Data Source 3->DSO1.
DSO1- > DSO2.
DSO1 -> DSO3.
2) Will all these be inactive ( assuming yes, )
     a. Do I need to retransport all the transformations.
     b.And if Yes, I assume we need to transport DTP’s too.
3) Does adding of navigational attribute affect any other Cubes and DSO or transformations ,containing the main Info Objects. "ABC"..
Note: This new navigational attribute is not used in any of the old cubes. it wil be used in new design.

Authorization Relevant BI Navigational Attribute

I have one quick question on auth relevant navigational attributes.
Say I have characteristics A and B. B is a nav attribute of A i.e. A__B and is marked auth relevant.
Does this means that A will also have to marked as auth relevant and be placed in the RSECADMIN profile along with A__B?

Doubt in Navigational Attribute

Hi All
We have attribute and upon requirement we have changed that attribute to Navigational attribute? and for a period of a month this has been using in the reports.
Now requirement changes and customer says he does'nt need this navigational attribute and he wants to chnage this to display attribute.
Now if I change this navigational attribute to display attribute will there will be effect???

It appears from your question that you have not changed the property of the infoobject from attribute to navigational attribute( by unchecking the attribute only option in the General tab of infoobject) but has changed the properties while selecting the object n the cube from attribute only to navigational attribute. If you change this agin then the Infocube will become inactive as well all update rules will also become inactive. Following this the Multiproviders based on this cube will also become inactive. Alll you need to do this change the attribute properties and activate all objects cube , update rule and multiprovider.
Also there is one catch the data already loaded in the cube will have sid linkage for the navigational trribute and probably it needs to be reconstructed before the data is avilable for reporting correctly. I am not sure on this. You may do this in development and see if it has any effct on the data already loaded in the cube.
You don't need to worry about queries ..just remve it from the selection for characteristic drill down.

Performance - navigation attributes

Hi,
we have a very bad performance with our reports, because we use many navigation attributes. So I want to disable those we don't need.
My question is: Do I have to delete the nav flag in the InfoObject where this navigation attribute was created or is it the same effect for a better query performance when i only disable the navigation attribute in the InfoCube and in the MultiCube (and keep it in the InfoObject active)?

Hi Robert,
You only need to remove the nav attr from being used in your queries. If it is difficult to control that (due to many users creating their own queries) then you can uncheck the Nav Attr in the cube or mulitprovider. No need to change it at the InfoObject level.

Navigation attribute in a InfoCube

Hi Experts,
Question: No Values for Navigation attribute in the report that has InfoCube as InfoProvider.
I have a requirement to include a new feild as navigational attribute in a Characteristic.
So, i create the InfoObject IO1 . Assign it as a Navigational attribute to InfoObject IO2.
Now, in the Infocube, there is a setting under the Navigation attributes (On/Off) i check on it.
Now, in the query i add IO1 as attribute for IO1. So that when the query is run IO1 values will be displayed.
But unfortunately no values for IO1 are displayed.
Cross check i did:
For the InfoObject IO2 there are other InfoObjects as attributes IO3 & IO4.
Now when i include this as attribute and display there are values for IO3 and IO4.
I can understand there is some setting i have missed.
Can you please list down all the steps to display the new InfoObject IO1 in the report.

In InfoObject IO2, i can see values are populated for IO1.
IO2      IO1
A         A1
B         B1
Now, in the report i have IO2 values (A & B).
So, attribute IO1 that is (A1 & B1) should be displayed for the respective IO2.
