  • Two Questions Actually. Display & USB

So I haven't even had my MacBook Pro 15" for a year and one of the USB ports seems to be completely unresponsive and I have no idea as to why. As such I have no idea what to do about it either?
Second question is. I just bought a mini dvi to VGA adapter and a vga to vga chord so i could hook my MacBook Pro up to my TV. I got the chords and hooked up and Wala everything works fine I see the display on the TV and I hear the sound (cause the vga chord also had a line in chord alongside it) and then I leave to a friends. I come back today and try hooking it in again. and Its not sending the Video out this time. What is my problem? I can't figure anything out and its rather depressing. ?

Well if you haven't had it a year yet, then you should still be under warranty. You can take it to your nearest Apple store/Reseller and have the repairs performed. Your USB ports are directly attached to your logicboard, and in most cases, it needs to be replaced. (Don't worry, this doesn't involve your hard drive, so your data should be fine!)
One question though. If the Macbook Pro is less than a year old, then the video connection would be though "Mini-Display" as opposed to "Mini-DVI". Could you please confirm which port you are using?
But along the same lines, the Mini-display port is also attached to the logicboard. Being as that you are also having USB issues, these two problems might be related.
    2 things you can try:
    1. SMC RESET: With the computer off hold "COMMANDOPTION+SHIFTPOWER BUTTON for about 10 seconds, you should see the sleep indicator flash rapidly (Little light in front of the laptop)
    2. PRAM RESET: With the computer off, press the power button and immediatly hold "COMMANDOPTION+PR" until the computer restarts. (You'll hear a second start up chime"
    Hope this helps!

  • Just switching from a PC to MacBook Pro - question about Safari display

    Hi,
I am sorry for such a simple question, but if anyone has a moment... we have the new 15 inch laptop, but when accessing a website, the display does not fill up the whole screen. In other words, I can still see quite a bit of the background (wallpaper?) and it just seems to me that it could fill up the screen more than it is. The website doesn't matter - Yahoo, Apple, all the sites are displaying at the same size. Is there a way to adjust this? Thanks.

Grab the title bar and drag the window to the upper left, then grab the bottom right corner of the Safari window and drag it larger.
Alternatively, click the green dot at the upper left - that's a bit different than the Windows 'maximize' in that in Mac OS X, that button enlarges the window in a content-sensitive manner (i.e. makes it large enough to display the full content of the window, within the limit of your monitor). That means that, depending on the web page, the window may fill the screen vertically, horizontally, both, or neither (it will leave space for the Dock, though).
    Hope that helps...

  • File import questions and folder display questions

    I am running LR3 on Win 7 x64. I have a few questions.
I have a hard drive assigned to drive letter "B:\" Why doesn't the file imported see this drive in the list of drives? I have to use the "other drives" and browse every time that I want to add files from this disk. Other drives, including networked drives are fine.
When importing from a main folder and including subfolders, is there a way to filter files in any manner? I never want to import web galleries that I have made in bridge, for example. These files have very small JPG files, thumbnails and web images. Is there a way to exclude them form consideration whilst importing? Is there a way to reveal and show the thumbnails with the folder structure? I don't want to have to browse to every folder individually when I am trying to import all useful images from an entire disk. If LR would at least show the folder structure of the subfolders when you select photos from a top level folder, this would help. How can I do this?
In the library view of folders, how I filter on all files in one disk? I can select a folder under the disk and see just that folder, but LR will not allow me to select the entire disk. Is there a way to do this?
How can I display the entire folder structure in the laibrary panel? Some folders are not showing their top level folders that they are inside of. How do I reveal this information?
In the library module, how can I filter on file dimensions? I thought that I had seen this, but I can no longer find this. Sorting by file dimensions would also be an option to accomplish what I am trying to do. I need to delete all thumbnail images and tiny images from the catalog. Is there an easy way to do this?

No, because you don't import a whole disk, you only import images.  And the toplevel disk bar you see there is the disk where the top level folder is stored, not the entire disk.
Let me make this clear.   When I want to view an entire disk,  I am only wanting to select images that I have already imported, not the entire disk including images that I have NOT imported.
I am not sure if you dont understand what I am saying or what.  If you have folders of images inside a top level folder, you can easily select the top folder to see all subfolders that you have imported.  Why can't I select the disk as the top level folder to see all of the images that I have imported on that disk?
I have a cattelog that has images from 8 different disks.  I use removable drive bays so all 8 disks are not available at any given time.  I just want the ability to select all images that I have imported on a disk, just like you can do at the folder level.  I am at a loss as to why this is a problem.
My point about bridge was that LR is a far superior program for organizing images due to its database.  But LR is lacking in some features that could have easily been put into it.  If bridge can do the type of filtering that it does without a good database engine, then certainly LR could and should do it.  In no way do I want to use Bridge to manage cattelogs with 150,000 images.  That would be insane.  I have no issue with the fact that you have to import your images first to use LR.  It has to be this way to work with the database.  My issue is that the filtering is not nearly as comprehensive as bridge.
I dont need help with my workflow.  Back when I shot many of the images that I am importing now into LR, there was no lightroom.  My workflow was much different back then than it is now.  My comments were that I assumed that LR could do things that it cannot, not that I needed help with my current workflow.  Much of the issues that I have now with LR are due to the old workflow and trying to import only the raw images.

  • I am trying to copy a color that shows a question mark in display window.

I am trying to copy a colro that shows as a question mark in the display window.  This shown below.

    Just a broken link, Paul.
Are you sure the link is viable?
If you just wish to show an image, you may use the Insert Image button, which looks like a camera, at the top of the box where you write your post.

  • Questions concerning waveform display

    Hi folks,
I am in trouble again. I try to modify one example to achieve my own goal. But there are some questions I am confused.
I want to display a voltage signal with 0.5 V offset and 1 V amplitude from multimeter. In the labview VIs, I have to choose 'DC Voltage' in the 'Function' controller, but the data can't display correctly when I chose 'AC Voltage' (the range displayed is 0 to about 0.35 V).What's more, the graph in 'Waveform Chart' looks strange, I want to get some signal like Sine signal, but I don't know how.
Here is the VI front panel:

    Hi Dennis Knutson,
Frankly I am not sure how to change the scan rate of the multiple readings.  Is it the 'sample count' controller in the front panel?
The frequency of the sine wave i use is 10 Hz, just for testing.
The actual VI is attached here:

  • 2 swing questions: JScrollPane and displaying pictures

I'm building a GUI for a toy application I have written, I have two questions:
1-The main window is inherited from JFrame, There is a JTabbedPane attached to it, and a JPanel as the first tab of the tabbed pane. There are so many jcomponents in this JPanel, this makes it too big for small resolution computers (below 1024 * 768), I would like to add this JPanel to a JScrollPane to make it behave like a text area, I've done it but it didn't work, obviously there is something I'm missing.
2-My application calls another program to create some images at runtime which will be displayed in the other tabs, after calling the program and creating the image, I get the filename of the image. What is the best way to display this image?
I have tried JLabel's but they don't update their pictures for some reason after it has been changed.
    Thanx in advance.

Updated and tested code, hopefully this will help.

  • HAP-S1 - Question Mark on display.

HAP-S1 prompted me to do a Network Update. I did the update. Immediately afterword, a QUESTION MARK appears on my display at all times. The Sony literature says that the QUESTION MARK indicates"unanalyzed audio content remains". I have done a factory reset 3 times. As soon as I transfer music from the HAP Music Transfer software (also updated), the QUESTION MARK reappears. After factory reset - question mark appears after transfer of music (entire library or just one file). Unit worked perfectly for over a year - only started to happen after Network Update prompt received yesterday. How do I get rid of this annoying Question Mark? Thank you.

That means it can't find a system folder to boot from.
Has nothing to do with display.

  • Two basic xcode questions (tabs and displaying members)

I have two questions about xcode that are most likely answered easily:
    1. Is there a way to set it so that selecting a block of text and hitting tab or shift tab will indent it instead of replacing it with a tab? I know that i can right click and do move right, but that is pretty irritating to do on a regular basis.
    2. How do I get xcode to display members of classes and structs when I am typing? For example if I type 'var->' I want it to pop up a list of available members that belong to var for me to choose from. Or if I type 'function(' i want it to list what the parameters are that function is expecting.

I don't think that anyone much gives a flying fsck what "features" are available; unless that person is trying to "sell" something to you.
Of course, I assumed your standards were based on what Micro$hite offers you. Why should that be a standard?
If you want similar features, you will have to use a proprietary Apple API. Believe me, you can get it. But you cannot inspect MFC from inside Apple's IDE.
I'm sorry, I don't really intend my remarks to be harsh. It just astonishes me when people don't realize that these folks are not in business to HELP YOU but are in business to MAKE MONEY.
I'm not even saying this is wrong. I'm just saying, you should not be astonished.

  • Question about the display lid not matching up with body

I was wondering if it is common for the lid to not match up with the body perfectly. I noticed that on my Mac the lid doesn't match up perfectly and is off a little, maybe a MM, but it is irritating nonetheless. It is slightly over on the left side, equal amount off on the right side and forward on the rear of the right side. To me it looks like the screen was mounted off a bit. It seems that most of the displays that I have seen match up perfectly and my computer has never been dropped or mishandled in any way so why the issue?
So, since I live 100 miles from the nearest Apple Store, I thought I would post my question here. I would also like to know if the lid can be adjusted to correct the misalignment.

I took my Mac to the Apple Store and had it looked at. They said I could leave my computer there for a couple of days and they could try and adjust my lid to match more closely with the body. I declined to do that.
There were a couple of display Mac's that weren't lining up quite right. I would say to anyone buying a new Mac from an Apple store to look at the alignment before they take their computer home!
BTW, this is one downside to owning a Mac in my opinion, and that is the fact that you have to be away from your computer for days at a time if something goes wrong. I have always owned Dell laptops and while they do have problems, they can be fixed at your home/business w/i one or two business days. Oh well.

  • Questions about Thunderbolt Display

    Hi there,
I'm thinking about buying a 27" Thunderbolt Display to accompany my 15" Macbook Pro. Basically, the current MBP screen is a little small for some of the tasks I'm currently undertaking. The specs of my Macbook Pro are:
    - 2.3GHz i7 Quad Core
    - 8GB RAM
    - AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB VRAM
    - Running the latest version of Lion.
I was wondering if anyone can advise of the kind of performance I can expect from the 27" Thunderbolt display if it is hooked up for the following tasks that I use my computer for:
    - General day to day internet use and Microsoft Office For Mac use.
    - Editing HD movies in iMovie (and potentially at a later date, Final Cut X).
    - Recording music in Logic Studio 9.
    - Web coding in Dreamweaver CS5.
    - Photo Editing in Photoshop CS5.
    - Graphics creation in Fireworks and InDesign CS5.
    - Running a game like X Plane 10.
    - Running Bootcamp with Windows 7 and games like Flight Simulator X.
    - Running a game like Football Manager 2012.
    - Watching movies.
Ideally I'd want to be running the above tasks in full screen mode.
How would the MBP cope with upscaling the above tasks to the full resolution of the Thunderbolt screen, with good graphical performance on the video editing and games specifically? Ideally I'm hoping for literally no loss in quality.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
    T

I've looked into it more and according to this (http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html) my graphics card supports an external display to the maximum of 2560 by 1600 pixels which should be enough for the Thunderbolt Display considering it's native resolution is 2560 by 1440 pixels.
My question now is though, will the performance of things like video editing of moderate gaming be good on the TBD at full resolution?

  • Question of text display

    Hi,gurus.
I've loaded the standard text datasource to 0ACCOUNT.
As every Account Number I can see 2 reocrds in its masterdata table as follows:
Chart of Account    Account Number    Language    ...    Short Description    Medium Description
    0004                     4100000
CCCA                   4100000                   EN                        Local sales good     Local sales good
Only exists CCCA available in transaction data.
In query designer, I set 0ACCOUNT display as (Standard: Key and text).
But in analyzer(Logon with EN), 0ACCOUNT can not display the text content as "local sales good",it displays like this:
    Key                       Text
    CCCA/4100000  |  CCCA/4100000
What's wrong with it? How to make it display the correspondent text content?
    Thanks,for your help.

  • Question regarding external display

    Hello,
I may have posted this in the wrong section, but the forums are labeled oddly.  Anyway, I have an Insignia flat screen that I'd like to use as a second monitor for my laptop.  However, I have no clue if this laptop can even use one.
Here's some information about my laptop - http://i.imgur.com/yHlcLsO.png
If it can use an external display such as a tv, what cord do I need?  I am not seeing an HDMI port.  The HDMI port I'm used to, which was from my old laptop, had the two holes on the side for the screws or whatever you call them.
    Thanks.

The Ideapad U530 has an HDMI connector. What you were using before was old school vga which uses a D-sub connector or DVI. Using HDMI should give you much better clarity and response.
    d-sub/vga = http://www.mouser.com/images/switchcraft/images/ehhd15ffb.jpg
    HDMI connector = http://www.mouser.com/images/molex/images/highprofile_SMT_iso.jpg
    DVI connector = http://www.mouser.com/images/omron/images/xm4m_t.jpg
    HDMI cable = http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTAwWDUwMA==/z/FA0AAOSwg3FUhO1~/$_12.JPG
The TV should have an HDMI connector, on it unless it is older then 5 years than it may be iffy, and you just need to get one of these. Should be able to get one pretty much anywhere. radioshack, walmart, kmart, etc. anyplace that sells tv's should have them. Just keep in mind that if thier charging more then 20$ for it that is too much.

  • Question about external displays.

Just curious about external display use with the macbook.
I want to link up using DVI to DVI but I recently read that my external display will only show the same as the macbook display, and that i cant use the macbook display, and the external display as two seperate screens? but i read its possible to do on the macbook pro. Is this correct?

I don't normally use my macbook with my primary display, but I have tried it out.
I hooked it up via vga, rather than dvi though.
It worked fine, but defaulted to mirrored. There is an option in the settings to disable mirroring, and use the macbook as the primary and the external as the secondary.
I haven't found any way to swap them, and have the macbook as the secondary display.
The management of the screens was pretty cool though. You can drag and drop the screens so their relative position is set up how you want it (over/under, left/right, etc).
    hope that this helps...

  • FR Chart Question: How to display % next to numbers?

    Hi FRville residents,
I am building a report that is mapped to the Actual/Budget column. In the Grid, I added % sign through FR formatting. When I map this column in my chart, and display the value, the chart shows values only. For example let say for Region 1, Actual/Budget is 50%. My chart is showing 50.
Is there any way to add the % sign in front of the numbers in charts?
    Thanks,

    Hello!
I know how to set headers and subheaders for charts and I did it.
I want to show values of "DATA FIELDS" in pie chart. And also want to hide text "Sum ORDERS.ORDER_AMOUNT" which has been created automatically.
    P.S. I'm working with CR4Eclipse 2.0
