Questions about a specific offline editing workflow with AVCHD Source

I`m working on a imac i5 in FCS3 with ProRes422
I got a Sony HDR XR 500 AVCHD Camera, i get the material in FCP with the Log & Transfer Window. In this way the material is going to render on the fly to the Target Codec ProRes422.
In the editing workflow in FCP i recognize the system got a little problem with the big ProRes files which means that the workflow slows down by the data rates of ProRes in HD
Now i think about offline Editing for months.
I read about the workflow, but there`s is one part that i don`t understand.
In every tutorial about this thread, they say that in the end of editing process you have to make your timeline files offline with the media manager, than recapture, reconnect from the tape with timecode.
BUT I DON`T HAVE A TAPE !!
My source files are AVCHD, which every one starts by tc 00:00:00:00
are the following thoughts possible, and how do i do this in detail?
when i do Copy my ProRes422 full hd files with media manager, so the filenames are still the same like the original ones.
in the copied project i start media manager again and turn the whole project in ProResProxy for offline editing. The file names are still the same.
then i edit my project in this ProResProxy Project !
At the end, shortly before i want to render out the whole movie in Full Resolution ....how can i reconnect with the original sized full HD ProRes422 files that are sleeping in a folder on my machine??
Can someone tell me something specific to this workflow, or a better one?

Folks, i've Found a Workflow in the web and tested it tonight - (it Works)!
And this Way i can Archive my Final project later on DVD or BR in AVCHD Source Files which are much smaller as pro Res 422 or HQ...
Here's the process in a nutshell.
- Backup your full cards. This needs to be done no matter what you do.
- Log and Transfer the footage as ProRes Proxy.
- Edit.
- When you lock picture, Media Manage the sequence using the MAKE OFFLINE option, choose the codec you want to reimport this footage as...ProRes 422. You will end up with a new sequence with only the footage used in the cut, with handles (yes, give yourself like 3 second handles).
- Use Log and Transfer to load all of the card backup folders. Just locate them...don't transfer again. You are telling FCP where the folders are. Close L&T.
- Highlight the sequence in the Browser, or all the clips in the MEDIA folder that is created, and choose BATCH CAPTURE. This will bring up the Log and Capture interface, but don't worry, it will now log and transfer the footage, and ONLY the small chunks of video you choose. It will recognize the IN and OUT points.
Do a small test and see for yourself. I have done this with AVCIntra P2 and it works well.

  • Specific question about an OutOfMemoryError.... with code!

    i have the need to move tons of small chunks of byte[] data. We're talking 100-450 Million chunks of 750-2000 bytes of data.
    I am trying to streamline some of my algorithms. Because of the checks and edits in place I need to use a LinkedList to hold these in until they are rewritten to disk.
    The LinkedList generally holds 1 or 2 of these chunks at a time before passing it on to be written to disk.
    Anyways, i was trying to gauge what kind of time is consumed in this process alone. I constructed the following FOR loop:
                   LinkedList ll = new LinkedList();
                   byte data[] = "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX".getBytes(); //about 700 bytes of data
                   byte claimNew[];
                   for(int i=0;i<10000000;i++){
                        ll.add(data);
                        claimNew = (byte[])ll.get(0);
                        if(i%100000==0){
                             System.out.println("Processed: " + i);
                   }i wanted to run it and increase the number of iterations to see approximately how much time is consumed in this process. NOTE: I know this isn't a very effificent
    way to get this information, but it's fast and easily toyed with. I'm not writing a thesis, i just wanted some ballpark ideas.
    Anyways, when this loop runs to about 2.7 million it dies with an OutOfMemoryError. I used only the default heap settings. However, this got me curious:
    1-What is filling up the heap? is it the space allocated for the byte buffer in the class cast?
    2-Shouldn't the byte buffer be marked for the garbage collector once the for loop reaches the end of a certain iteration? Shouldn't that free up heap space?
    I am curious about the answer, it seems like this error shouldn't have happened in the first place.
    I appreciate any info!
    NEVERMIND! I'm a total dork. i didn't notice that i never put that little part in to ... ahem ... REMOVE the data chunk once i've read it from the LinkedList! SORRY!

    Now however you do have the advantage now of knowing roughly how many your can process at once without running out of memory.

  • RAW editing workflow with Photoshop Elements 6

    I have been using the following workflow with RAW images in iPhoto and editing them in Photoshop Elements 6. It seems to be working fine. Does anyone see a problem with my workflow???
    I choose to edit in external editor (Elements 6), and the image opens in Camera Raw. I make my edits here because I really like the editing power of Camera Raw. After I am finished, I chose Save As and choose jpeg. The save dialog tries to save back to the Originals folder in the iPhoto Library that the RAW file came from, so I simply choose the appropriate event in the Modified folder and save it there. It replaces the jpeg that iPhoto had created when the original RAW file was imported. When I go back to iPhoto the changes are applied.
    Now I realize that I can't reopen the original RAW file again in Elements without reverting to original, but that is usually not an issue. I also realize that messing with the iPhoto Library outside of iPhoto can be dangerous. Another drawback is that I haven't been able to open multiple RAW photos from iPhoto into Camera Raw so I can apply changes all at once.
    But I can't see anything wrong with the workflow. Am I on the right track, or am I missing something?

    No, I don't believe you can do that with RAW editing. By manually replacing the first modified version with your RAW edited version iPhoto will not update the thumbnail. You will be able to see the edited version if you go to the edit mode or full screen mode. But the thumbnail will not be identical. If that's OK with you then you should be able to go with that workflow.
    If the edits are significant enough you might want to save the new file to the desktop and import as a new file.
    You can try this on a copy of the iPhoto Library. Open the library package and move the contents of the Data folder to the trash along with the Thumb32Segment.data, Thumb642Segment.data and ThumbJPGSegment.data files. Then launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. This will rebuild the thumbnail files and my reflect your edited versions. Again, make a backup copy of the library before trying this.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • A quick question about WebDynpro SLD and R/3 with concurrent users

    Hello ,
    I have a very quick question about Webdynpros and SLD connecting to an R/3 system, when you configure a webdynpro to connect to an R/3 system using SLD, you configure a user name and password from the R/3  for the SLD to use. What I would like to know is when I have concurrent users of my webdynpro, how can I know what one user did in R/3 and what another user did? Is there a way for the users of the web dynpro to use their R/3 credentials so SLD can access the R/3? Like dynamically configuring the SLD for each user?
    - I would like to avoid leaving their their passwords open in the code ( configuring two variable to get the users username and password and use these variables as JCO username and password )
    Thanks Ubergeeks,
    Guy

    Hi Guy
    You will have to use Single Sign On to achieve this. In the destination you have defined to connect to R/3 , there is an option to 'useSSO' instead of userid and password. This will ensure that calls to R/3 will be with the userid that has logged into WAS. You wont need to pass any passwords because  a login ticket is generated from WAS and passed on to R/3. The userid is derived from this ticket.
    For this to happen you will have to maintain a trust relation ship between R/3 and your WAS ,there is detailed documentation of this in help files. Configuration is very straight forward and is easy to perform

  • A question about backend of creating the app with Xcode

    Hi,
    I'm a new iphone developer who just started to learn how to create iphone apps.
    I just started to learn about view-based applications.
    When I select view-based applications, XCode will automatically generate some files for me.
    For example, if a create a new project called "A", XCode will generate files like "AViewController.m", "AAppDelegate.m", and "main.m".
    but I don't see anywhere in those files where it's actually creating the instance of "AViewController" or "AAppDelegate".
    So at where and at which file are the instances of "AViewController" and "AAppDelegate" created?
    Also where is the instance of the main application created?(not A.app if you know what I mean)

    I hope I can add to the correct answer posted by J D McIninch since the solution to this thread might provide a good example of how xib objects work--i.e. what I tried to explain in your [previous thread|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11479911#11479911].
    Daviiidddd wrote:
    So at where and at which file are the instances of "AViewController" and "AAppDelegate" created?
    Open MainWindow.xib and make sure the xib window is visible by selecting Document from the Windows menu. You should see a solid orange cube labeled "A App Delegate", and a circular icon labeled "A View Controller". These icons represent IB objects. The objects are described by xml elements in the xib file, and that xml will direct the system to create the real objects in memory when the xib is loaded. While it's not technically correct to say the real objects are "created by IB", we can say that the specification for the real objects is built in IB. In other words, the xib file which results from an IB editing session contains a tree of specifications which will be used to create real objects at runtime.
    Btw, to graphically see the tree of xib objects (the "view hierarchy", find the +View Mode+ switch in the upper-left corner of the xib window. Select the Center position of that switch so the window displays a two column table with a tree of small icons to the left. This is the xib view I recommend for all your work.
    Also where is the instance of the main application created?(not A.app if you know what I mean)
    The Application object is created by the [UIApplicationMain()|http://developer.apple.com/iPhone/library/documentation/UI Kit/Reference/UIKitFunctionReference/Reference/reference.html#//apple_ref/doc/ui d/TP40006894-CH3-SW7] function called by main() in main.m. The MainWindow.xib is then loaded, and the Application object is given ownership of that xib. This means that the File's Owner proxy object represents the real Application object, so all connections to File's Owner become connections to the real Application object.
    Note that the File's Owner cube is transparent. This is IB's way of denoting a proxy object. The First Responder is actually a proxy of a different kind, but let's not go there now.

  • Proxy / offline editing workflow

    Hello there
    situation is: 80min. DV material shot in europe.
    the editor sits somewhere is Asia
    they ask me to ftp these 80min digitized material, and i think it will take me 2 days to do so.
    my idea was to digitize, and create proxy version of the clips, which will be uploaded to the editor, to do his offline version, send EDL back to me, so i can create the online with the originals.
    since its the first time im doing it, my question is if there's a preferred workflow to create low-res/proxy/offline files out of the DV clips. what should i be aware of while doing it, which format etc.
    thanks very much for the help

    Yup...you can use the Media Manager to recompress to a lower res version that retains the original timecode. And then you don't need to rely on EDLs or MXLs or anything. They can send you the project file, you can relink to the original media and make slight adjustments to that project and you are back at full res.

  • (Silly)Question about a specific tool in Photoshop...

    First off, I apologize if this is one of those DUH questions, but I am not a scholar of Photoshop (yet...lol):
    Ok, seen these logos? :
    My question is: How exactly do I go about making a round shape(Or any shape really) and then cutting out swathes or sections of it to make stuff like the above? (Am I even using the correct terminology?)
    I used to have Illustrator 7 and I remember the stuff I had to access in order to do that (merge/cut I think?) but with Cs4, everything is so diferent....Where in Photoshop are the controls to merge/cut/slice whatever (If those are even the ones)???
    I know there are tutorials online, but I can't even find those cuz I don't know what terms to use in order to get to them...
    Thanks so much for your help//
    I a

    To draw a circle there are detailed instructions in the help file under circle.
    To get the "cut-outs" you can draw circles or lines with the background color to make it look like your examples.
    Many other ways to do it, but start simple.

  • Few questions about Photoshop CS4 Student Edition

    I'm thinking of getting a DSLR camera in the summer, so (since I'm a geek) I want to make sure I've got all the software I'll need to edit the photos once I've taken them. The catch is that I graduate from university this year, so if I'm going to buy Photoshop (ie if I'm going to _afford_ Photoshop) I need to do so in the next couple of months to get the educational discount.
    I've just got a few questions as to whether I actually need Photoshop CS4 for my situation:
    *I already have Lightroom 2 (courtesy of Amazon Vine!) for processing RAW files, doing basic colour adjustment etc. Would I get £150 worth of extra usage from Photoshop CS4 compared to Lightroom?
    *What DRM/copy protection does Photoshop CS4 use? Is it the same that's used in Lightroom 2 (hasn't given me any problems) or the Macrovision stuff that installs a background service (called something like 'Adobe LM monitor') on your computer?
    *If I need to reactivate over the phone some time in the future (e.g. when I move to a new computer and I've already used the activations) do I still need to be a qualifying student?
    Reckoned there wouldn't be a better place to ask these than PS forums :)

    >then you just don't know enough about photoshop.
    Actually, if you had read the initial post you'd realise that I'm fully aware that Photoshop is hugely powerful. However it doesn't offer enough benefit for my usage (ie retouching of amateur photos) to make it worth the money + computer infection. My above post wasn't an attempt to say that Photoshop is bad, or that Gimp or any of these other freeware programs are even in the same league, I was just stating that my own need for Photoshop's power isn't great enough to make me want to install spyware.
    >hmmm how about A PAYING JOB! i think that's what the clincher is for most folks.
    True, but (again, as I explained above) I'm not a professional photographer/graphic artist/etc. and therefore there is no 'need it for work' motivation.

  • Question about RTMP specification

    Hello,
    I have downloaded and read the RTMP specification, and am confused about some of the wording relating to the RTMP Chunk Stream.
    Page 19 of the RTMP Chunk Stream specification states that an extended Timestamp must not be present if the timestamp field is not present, then further states that Type 3 chunks must not have this field.  The only Chunk message header that has a timestamp is the Type 0 header.  Types 1 and 2 do not have a Timestamp field (however they have a timestamp delta.)  If applicable, is the extended timestamp only included with a Type 0 chunk, or do Type 1 and Type 2 chunks also include it?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Question about Garageband Vocal Jam Pack Compatiability with Logic Pro 8

    I recently purchased Logic Pro 8 and I was wondering if there is any way to I can use my Garageband 09 Jam Pack: Voices in Logic. When I select the loops tab and select show all only "Garageband and Jam Pack Remix Tools shows up, not my jam Pack Vocals.
    Thanks for helping me out.

    First, thanks for helping me out with my situation, its much appreciated.
    Now, I checked the support page that you told me about, however, that didn't fix my problem. There is nothing grayed out. I tried to re-install my Garageband Voices and it still didn't fix the problem.
    On Logic when I select the "Loops" tap and select the View drop down box, the only options listed is Garageband and Jam Pack remix Tools. Jam pack Voices still isn't showing up.
    On the other hand when I open Garageband and click the "loops" drop down menu; the following is listed, Garageband, jam Pack Remix Tools and jam pack Voices.
    I have no clue whats going on. By the way I have Garageband 09 and Logic Pro 8

  • Questions about buying a new MacBook pro with SSD

    Hello, I am about to buy a new MacBook pro. I'm going to get the 13 inch 2.8 dual core i7. I want a solid state drive also. I was going back and forth between the 128 gig or the 256 but I will probably get the 256. My computer will ship with lion but i am so confused about the TRIM support. Does lion take care of this? Dop I have to do anything like run a command or program to take care of TRIM?  Also, are solid states reliable? Should I get apple care? ( i really don't want to. Lol)

    I suggest you buy the notebook with the standard drive and the standard RAM, if you were thinking about upgrading the RAM.
    You can replace the original drive with a SSD at a lower cost then what Apple charges You can also buy RAM for a MUCH lower price.
    TRIM:
    Lion only supports TRIM natively when used with a Apple SSD. BUT, REALLY BUT, You can enable TRIM support yourself on the SSD you install. I have a SSD in my MBP that I installed and I have enabled TRIM support on it.
    Are SSDs reliable? As far as I can tell Yes they are. I have one in my Win 7 desktop PC for the last 9 months, No Problems. I have a SSD installed in my Dell Win 7 Notebook for the last 1.5 months, No Problems. I have a SSD installed in my MBP for the last month+, No problems. There are reports of SSDs failing but there are also report of standard hard drive failing all the time.
    I used Intel 320 series SSDs in my 2 Windows PCs and a Kingston V200 SSD in my MBP. I switched to the Kingston because of the price and it runs on the higher SATA III bus speed, 6GB, where as the Intel 320 series only run at the 3GB speed, SATA II.

  • Basic questions about word spacing and vertical alignment with CSS

    I'm sill very new to Dreamweaver and web page designing. I've
    read the entire manual SC3, one book, and starting another but I
    have almost 0 practice.
    Q1. so far I haven't been able to produce the effect of the
    Word Spacing property. I tried all kinds of tests and I don't know
    in what scenario this effect will show. Can someone give me a
    simple example that shows the effect of this CSS property.
    Q2. Vertical Alignment: this works well with images inserted
    into text but I also expected this to work with text against other
    text. For example I typed TEST© and assigned a different SCC
    style to the © so that I can make it smaller and put it up
    with the Vertical Alignment property. Surprisingly this propery
    didn't produce any effect. How is htis suppose to be done?

    > This is some text. This is some text.
    You forgot to wrap your text in <p> tags so the style
    rule you created
    doesn't apply.

  • Question about Installing CS6 Student Edition

    I purchased student version of Adobe CS6 about a year ago, unfortunately about the same time as I made this purchase my laptop died. I recently graduated from college, but I was wondering if there is a window of time that I need to install the suite before I become ineligible as a student/or if I will be unable to install and register. I currently have a work computer, but don't want to install the program until I get my own computer. Furthermore, how many devices can I install the student edition on? If I need to install it before my student status expires, I'd like to install it on my work computer, then hopefully get my own personal device ASAP and install it on that as well if possible. Thanks for the help.

    If you are still a student then you can install and use the software.
    As far as installing it on a work computer goes, that is usually up to the company you work for.  Most companies control what is and is not allowed to be installed on a computer they own.

  • About Note 378648 - Offline backup support with Oracle Fail Safe

    Hi forum,
    I try to re-post it in Oracle word...
    I read note 378648 but I don't understant where I must set the follow variables :
    BR_OFS=1
    BR_OFS_RESOURCE=< database_resource_name>
    BR_OFS_CLUSTER=< cluster_name>
    BR_OFS_USER=<user_name>
    BR_OFS_DOMAIN=<domain>
    BR_OFS_PWD=<password>
    I try into init<SID>.sap but without success.
    Regards.
    Ganimede Dignan.

    Those are environment variables of the Windows user who is running brbackup; usually this is SAPService<SID>.
    You have to set this variables the same way as you set ORACLE_HOME and so on.
    (I am not sure about the details; never worked with MS cluster.)
    hope this helps

  • Question about synchronization the methods that work with Properties

    Hello everyone
    I have the following problem with the properties file and synchronization.
    I read properties after the programm was started. And If the properties exist the programm load the properties (java.util.Properties) from the properties file.
    Than I have make the possibility to change this properties in GUI and save it. That mean that the properties file will be used from two plases: the first at the beginning and the second in GUI.
    I wrote the wrapper for properties, say ApplicationProperties.
    I defined ApplicationProperties as the Singleton. At this file I defined
    setters/getters for my variables. This class has also two methods
    load properties or save properties. This two methods work with the propertiesFile the instance of java.io.File.
    The first reads the properties with FileInputStream and the second save it to this file with the FileOutpuStream.
    My question is, do I need to synchronize this two methods to make it thread save?
    private File propertiesFile;
    private void loadPropertiesFromFile() throws FileNotFoundException, IOException {
         FileInputStream input = null;
         try {
              input = new FileInputStream(this.propertiesFile);
              this.properties.load(input);
              updateSettingsFromProperties();
         } catch (FileNotFoundException fnfE) {
              throw new FileNotFoundException("Cannot find the properties file.");
         } catch (IOException ioE) {
              throw new IOException("Cannot read properties file.");
         } finally {
              if(input != null) {
                   input.close();
    private void savePropertiesToFile() throws IOException {
         FileOutputStream out = null;
         try {
              out = new FileOutputStream(this.propertiesFile);
              this.properties.save(out, PROPERTIES_DESCRIPTION);
         } catch (IOException io) {
              throw new IOException("Can't save properties.");
         } finally {
              if(out != null) {
                   out.close();
    }Thanks a lot for your advise!

    Will you ever be reading or writing the same file from multiple threads at once?
    Synchronisation can prevent this from happen, but does it ever happen at the moment?
