Questions from a hopeful logic owner

To start, I've got a lot of VST's. These VST's are installed on windows.
Aside from the fact that most of these have .exe installers, let's say that I manage to get the .dll's off of a windows machine. Can I then put them on a mac and wrap 'em? Will the VST work the same after wrapping?
I was searching around and couldn't seem to find a definitive answer on this subject.
Also, what's a "Mac VST"?

You're actually going to run into an even bigger problem, which is that, if memory serves, after version 5 in OS 9, Logic stopped supporting VST. When Apple bought out emagic, one of their first major changes was to switch the program to the AU standard (Audio Units) which are supported system wide as opposed to in specific programs. There are some advantages to doing so, but it hurt the compatibility for a while. You'll find that most of the well known plug-ins, like Waves and Native Instruments among others, are available in both AU and VST, often on the same disc now. There are programs to convert VST to AU plugins, and I've tried with some success to do so, but it often fails.
Now, to your original question, my understanding is that it is theoretically possible to convert your VST plug-ins for mac, but it probably wont work with all of them. Then the ones that work would have to be converted to AU, which again, probably won't work with all of them.

Basic questions from a new mozaic owner

I have some very basic questions about how to use the new mozaic 2G mp3 player. I bought the Mozaic because it has a speaker and sleep timer, but I'm finding it to be much harder to use than other mp3 players that I have had (Ipod shuffle, clix etc). This may reflect my failure to look in the right place but I have to say the "help" section isn't much help.
Here goes:
. I download podcasts to listen to during my morning run. WMP provides an easy to find place in its program, "recently added," which allows the user to just work with those files. As near as I can tell, Creative makes you wade through all of your tracks. Is there some way to create a file to which "recently added" tracks, or specific tracks, can be dumped? How about automatic tagging of these added files?
2. I have several thousand pictures on this hard dri've. Apparently, the Mozaic Centrale
Is going to copy all of them, which strikes me as a waste of space. Is there a way to shut this function off? I couldn't care less if a single photo was added to the centrale program (or whatever it's called). Is it really going to duplicate all of the jpg files?
3. I have the Zen Stone plus speaker which has served me very well. I had similar problems working with whatever Zen was calling its media player and wound up using WMP instead. I"d like to take a run at using the dedicated Zen media player....
I apologize for the basic nature of these questions, but the answers weren't obvious to me from the materials I was able to locate.

Some question from a new N97 owner

Hi all,
So I just got my new N97. I have a few questions:
- Configure home screen: So far I can add 2 shortcut bars (each can contain 4 application). I want to add more short cut bars, is there anyway? In the selection list when choosing the bar item to place on the home screen, there is no "shortcut 3" item.
- Screen saver: So far my N97 locks key and screen becomes black and locked very fast (about 10 seconds) no matter how I try to change to settings. Actually there is nothing displayed (back screen) at all. And to wake up, I have to use the lock/unlock slide on the side. Is this normal? I can't touch the screen to wake it up? I got to Menu > Settings > Phones > play with settings there but no use. Do I need an application to have the screen saver feature? Is this a device flaw or do I have to change settings somewhere else?

hmm i have a n85 as well hence my response to you in regards to the screen saver. yes it shows those options but eventually it does go all black. unless i missed something with my phone. which is possible as i no longer use it as my primary device. the only option right now for you to customize home screen is to wait for n97 app MyPhone that hopefully will soon be released for your model. nokia phones have never nor will they ever behave in a iphonish fashion hence no possibility to set apps up as you would like. n97 is full of customizations just not exactly how you would like them to be who knows perhaps with future updates it will become even more flexible but for now its either that or waiting for MyPhone to be released. sorry.
ps. i am greatly surprised that n97 would not have a screen saver options at least similar to the n85 that worries me as i am also awaiting arrival of my brand new n97. so hearing all kinds of news makes me a bit concerned about this new phone. time will tell. sorry i dont have anymore news for you.

Questions from a future macbook owner

i would like to get a mac. either the normal macbook or the macbook pro, but i wanted to know if buying the pro is worth the xtra money. based on GHz, hard drive and memory/RAM, is it worth it?
if it is, which is probably the best deal? the $1,999, $2,499 or $2,799 one? is 2.4 GHz a huge difference from 2.5 GHz? is a 200GB memory a huge difference from 250GB?

That's really a question of preference. I think you should visit a store http://www.apple.com/buy/ and feel for yourself which one can do tasks you need better.
Advantage MacBook Pro:
1. The MacBook you have no option for glossy versus matte display, whereas the MacBook Pro you do.
2. The MacBook has no Express/34 slot. With that you can add EVDO, and SATA/II cards.
3. The MacBook has no backlighting of keys.
4. The MacBook has a smaller screen.
5. The MacBook Pro has more peripheral ports.
6. The MacBook Pro has a faster processor and a faster dedicated graphics processor.
Advantage MacBook
1. Its internal hard drive has instructions from Apple on how to replace.

Basic time machine question from a new mac owner

Hello. I have an icon on my computer that says time machine and when i select the open time machine preferences, it takes me to my set up for my airport extreme.. is this correct or is time machine something additional that i would purchase to set up?

Thanks for the star and no problem, I would recommend that you get yourself an external drive though for backup. With any computer not having a backup system is gamble and sooner or later you will lose. If you do decide on a TM backup drive it would be wise to get one that has Firewire or Firewire 800 connections (for speed) and it should be about 2x the size of your interal drive if possible. Once you connect one TM will automatically back up your system and continue to back up every hour only backing up changes and addtions. So for example if you keep music and pictures and are continually adding material to your computer those are memories that you don't want lost if your machine has a failure, TM will help prevent that from occuring. It is one of the coolest features of Leopard. Two pieces of good news, TM is simple and external hard drives are fairly inexpensive these days.

2 questions from a new Mac owner

I just recently purchased my first Mac (Macbook Pro) and am really enjoying it. I have 2 questions that I cannot seem to find an answer for.
1: Is there a way to reverse the FN keys ( I dont like having to hit FN + F9 to use expose, i hardly ever use the those keys except for volume). Is there a way to make it so when i press the keys i get the normal key and if i want to use the features of the key hit FN + Key? I cant find any way to do this, weird because the documentation for Leopard never mentioned anything about me having to hit FN+F9 etc to use the features
2: Whenever i reboot into bootcamp and start to play a game, the notebook fans start going crazy and it heats up considerably fast. I usually stop playing after half an hour out of fear i will overheat. Is this normal behaviour for this to happen or could there be something wrong with my notebook?

1. I don't think you can since the keys serve two purposes. However, an intrepid programmer may have written a utility for that sort of thing. One never knows. Search at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
2. Yes, that's normal because Windows does not have any fan control implemented. I don't think there's a solution for this common problem.

Question about updating to Logic 9 and 64-bit

Hey guys, thanks for reading.
About 5 years ago I purchased the student discounted version of Logic Studio 8 (does not support upgrades of any kind). I have used this until now in conjunction with many Eastwest and Spectrasonics audio units.
I am now considering buying Logic Pro 9 to take advantage of 64-bit technology (which is a new concept for me), which will help my Eastwest and Spectrasonics audio units make full use of my 8GB of ram. No more crashing or slowing, hooray!
Here is my question: if I want to use all of the old reverbs, EQs, instruments, and jam packs that came with my Logic Studio 8 five years ago, do I need to purchase Logic Studio 9? I was hoping I could just buy Logic Pro 9 and that all the old plugins and instruments that came with my Logic Studio 8 will still function. I use Space Designer and a few select instruments from the Jam Packs quite frequently.
However, because these plugins and instruments came from Logic Studio 8, five years ago, and I doubt I can upgrade the files in any way because it was the educational version, I'd imagine that they are 32-bit.
Sorry if that was long and convoluted. Logic doesn't have a simple support line and I want to make sure I buy the right product!

If you buy Logic Po 9 from the App store.. all that extra content is available to download directly from inside the Logic Pro 9 App now (It's a menu option) so you won't lose anything.... and you get all your old versions updated and the for free!

Send parameter from one script logic to another. SAP BPC 7.5 NW.

We work on SAP BPC 7.5 for NetWeaver.
In general, we want to send parameter from one Script logic file to another script logic file.
I will explain why :
1. We have parametr like %C_CATEGORY_SET% (and another four parameter, like groups, currency and etc.) that work on one script(next, i will named it A_Script).
       We will send this parametr from BPC EXCEL (we will create button, then use command MNU_eData_SelectPackage(we also set parameters) and run package that we need, also before we set script for this package by the SAP Guide. We send some data, and this A_Script work good. Everything that we want from this script work correctly. )
2. Next we create another script(B_Script) , and we want use %C_CATEGORY_SET%, but we don't know how use this parametr, if we will just write this parametr on Script Logic, apears error ("C_CATEGORYDATAVALUE" is not assigned to the Data Administrator). We try to solve this problem by using System_Constants.lgf, but we get error.

If we will change %C_CATEGORY_SET% for ACTUAL, and also change another parameters, script will work, package will run correctly. But we need using parameters, because we didn't exactly what will choose our client.
Our question have BPC Script Logic some kind of Globar Parameter(Variable), that we will set in A_Script, and then use them on B_Script?
How can we define parameter from another script logic, maybe we should send it?
Should we use System_Constants for solving this problem, if yes, how?

1. About %ENTITYSET% it is normal. Before this line i write :

So it is not this problem. %ENTITYSET% just parameter, that i used.
2. Are you running the scripts using the same data manager package? I am running two different package for 2 different Script.
For example aPackage for aScript, and bPackage for bScript.
My questions was how can i send parametr from one script to another, for example i can run another script by using BADi command Runlogic, but how can send parameter that i need to used on another script. I have for example parameter %GROUPS_SET% (CG001) on aScript, but i can't get this parameter on another script, if i write %GROUPS_SET% i will get error ("GROUPSDATAVALUE" is not assigned to the Data Administrator)

A bundle of questions from an iPhone newb...

Ok so me and my wife recently both got the iPhone 4, and so far we love it. We haven't had any issues, except a tricky time getting the phones to hook up to the wifi here at our house but that was resolved pretty quickly. So here we are, two iPhone rookies and we had a few questions that we didn't get around to asking the sales guy because we didn't want to hold up the 50 other people behind us in line... waiting in the rain... at 6a.m. So here's a short list of questions I was hoping to get answered. I tried searching the message boards but couldn't quite find the answers I needed.
1) What all exactly constitutes data usage? Sounds simple, but we just came from another carrier with an unlimited data plan and we never thought about how much we used, until we got stuck with the 2gig cap imposed by AT&T.
2) Does the data usage covered by my plan get drained even when I'm on my home wifi connection? In relation to that, is it better to stay connected to wifi or the 3G cell network?
3) Is the 2gig cap on data usage per phone or shared between us?
4) Which apps use the most the data? Please don't say Facebook or the news... those are the two apps I use most....

Hi Josh,
You live in a populated area, so you probably have WiFi most places. Thus, if you are at Starbucks and hop on their WiFi, there is no data usage from ATT's standpoint. If you are in Starbucks and don't hop on their WiFi and surf the net, then you'll get data usage.
Go to Settings -> General -> Usage and then scroll down to Cellular Network Data and it will tell you how much you used. Keep an eye on it for a few months (you can reset it whenever you like) and you'll have a good idea of how much data you are using.

Question from an Apple Newbee!

Bought my first Apple computer this spring. It is a Macbook pro running OS X. I had a couple of questions and was hoping someone in this forum could assist me -
1. Hotmail Access. I have setup httpmail to download my hotmail to apple mail. It is downloading and sending fine. Problem is once I delete an email from Apple Mail's Inbox and remove it from Trash it still does not delete it from the Hotmail deleted items folder on the hotmail website. I have tried httpmail advanced setting set to 'Delete on Download' & 'Synchronize with Server'. Not sure what is wrong.
2. Gmail Access. Similarly Apple Mail does not seem to delete Gmail off the gmail website.
It is a little painful deleting mail both on the local client and on respective websites. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I cannot help you with the Hotmail issue.
Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies. I believe #3 answers your second question:
1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
2. To make already downloaded messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which causes everything (and I mean everything) still on the server to be downloaded again.
3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. In the case of Gmail (and only in that case), I recommend turning OFF Remove copy from server in Mail, so that Mail doesn’t even try to remove any messages from the server, regardless of whether you do actually want already downloaded messages to be removed from the server after some time or not.
4. Messages sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were received messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
5. Messages sent using a POP/SMTP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in #4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. Since they’re on the server nonetheless, already sent messages would be downloaded together with all the other messages on the server if proceeding as described in #2.
6. A particular case of #5 are messages sent to yourself. Instead of putting a copy of the sent message in the server’s Inbox and making it available for download, both the sent and the “received” message on the server are actually one and the same, and hence, cannot be downloaded via POP for the reason explained in #5.
7. Gmail allows POP accounts to be set up in a special way that avoids some of these issues while introducing others. If you only need POP access to the last 30 days of mail, you can configure Mail in “recent mode”, as described in How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?, i.e. by typing “recent:” (including the colon but not the quotes) at the beginning of the User Name field (not in the Email Address field) in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information. Configuring the account this way would allow Mail to download messages marked by Gmail as already downloaded (and download messages sent to yourself in particular), but it would also cause all sent messages (not just messages sent to yourself or through webmail) to be downloaded as if they were received messages.

Ipod questions from a computer idiot

I'm new to this iPod stuff and have to say I love it!! But I have lots of questions so sorry if I seem stupid. I have songs listed in my playlists that are not in my library. How do I get all songs in my library? Also, I think I'm going to need a bigger Nano (currently have 1 GB). If I get a 3 GB, can I transfer my current library and playlists to the new Nano? Thanks!

He put the CDs on his computer and then onto the iPod.

A playlist is simply a list, with song titles in it. You do not need any playlists to use iTunes or the iPod.
So if the song is from iTunes or a CD, it will go to the library...otherwise it will not?
No. Songs can be from anywhere (hopefully legally).
iTunes can import from a CD or from your computer or you can get them from the iTunes Music store.
If they are not in your library, you cannot put them onto the iPod.

Why can't I post a question from my new system?

Hello All:
I was just trying to post a question from my new mbp but it wouldn't allow me to do anything. It continually gave me a message highlighted in 'red' that i was;t allowed to modify or post anything. I've been asking questions for quite a while and have never seen this. I also happen to have my older bmp, also logged onto the 'Apple Discussions' site, open beside me. Can anyone explain this to me please? BTW, my new system obviously has Yosemite on it while my older bmp has Lion. Thanks in advance, to all those who respond.

     Unless you do something every thirty minutes you get logged out. The forum software waits to tell you this as long as it can to keep you in suspense ;-) . Filling out a reply is the exception to the thirty minute window.

Open a new browser window. Pick some discussion. Open a reply window. As long as this reply window is open, you will stay logged in. The 30 minute times is reset as needed by the ASC software.

HT201272 I have recently picked up an Apple TV. When I go to the movies tab, there are less movies available there than there are in my i-Tunes account. I've done some looking around at questions from others, but haven't found an answer that works for me.

I have 38 movies showing in my library but only 23 are showing in the Movies tab on the Apple TV. After researching this a little, there are only 23 movies showing under Purchased in the Quicklinks of my i-Tunes account. The majority of my collection are digital copy downloads that came from DVD purchases. Some of the missing movies were added in the past couple of months, the rest are a year-or-so old. I have done some looking around at questions from others, but I have not found an answer that will fix my situation. How do I update my library to get ALL of my movies to reflect that they were "Purchased"(as it says they were in their Properties)?

For long term users of CS perpetuals its generally a large hike up in cost compared to the upgrade system.
Then there are the....... Adobe can rot it hell...... group who will never subscribe
To each their own, you do the math to suit your cashflow whatever that is and then make an informed decision
To those on the CC model, I'd like to offer some practical advice.........do not allow automatic updates.........make regular backups............develop an exit strategy of alternatives for when you can no longer afford the subscription costs............never ever assume that the Adobe update is bug free

Thank you for that post, and the advice. I just happen to be one of those who it does work for. I've been around long enough to know that CC isn't going to work for everyone(the large publishing/radio/web company I work for isn't upgrading to CC because of the costs involved). But it does for me as I potentially venture out into the full-time freelancing world and away from the more structured big office environment. I can't make decisions based on what is best for anyone else, or what will hurt or help Adobe. Just what affects me, and that's all.
