Quick iTunes Q. :)

Hi Folks,
Very quick question. My Mac crashed before, I had to re-install OSX (no big shakes). My iTunes library lives on an external firewire hard drive. Now that I'm back up and running, I went to iTunes and told it where my library was. Now, how do I get back my tunes in to iTunes. Do I just go to import?
Thanks, sorry if it's a basic question. I don't tend to have to touch iTunes very often.

The tab is there -- but it has not yet been enabled from the iTunes store catalog until sometime next week. When it is enabled, you will find that the ringtones that you have purchased from iTunes will show a ringtone symbol next to them. Not all songs will be "ringtonable".
When you visit the iTunes store you will find those songs that are "ringtonable" to have the same symbol next to them. If you already downloaded that song, you can just press it on your iTunes library and it will open up RingTone Maker, allow you to edit, and charge you .99
If you don't own the song, you will be able to download it for .99 and then edit it and make it into a ringtone for another .99
This is not expected to happen for at least another week. The iTunes store end of it isn't ready yet.

  • Quick iTunes 7 Installiation Question. Please Read (WIN 32 HELP)

Every time i try to update to itunes 7, i get an error message saying that the product is not supported by Win32. Please help because i want to buy songs, but i can't seem to update to iTunes 7.
I would really appreciate the help! Thank You.
P.S. I HAVE tried uploading it on another browser...no sucess

Did you look at the requirements? http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Are you already running an earlier version of itunes?
Make sure on a windows 2000 install you have the sp4. If your not sure do a "windows update".
I assume your not running a mac but just asking to make sure for some wierd reason your not emulating windows on a mac and not running the mac version
If you already have an earlier itunes try uninstalling first. Make sure you backup your songs first with itunes backup...

  • Quick iTunes/iCloud question

I've just activated iCloud on my MBA for the first time and pleased to see contacts on my iPhone/iPad have synced nicely.  I've activated the music automatic download function within both the iPhone and iPad.  I just wondered if that is all I need to do to get a new download of a song or movie etc on the iPhone/iPad to appear on the MBA or is there another setting somewhere in the Mac I need to check?
Also with iCloud activated and always signed in on the MBA does this impact on its battery life much?  Can't say I noticed any difference on the iPhone or iPad.

In iTunes>Preferences>Store on the MBA you'll need select the kind of content you want to automatically download.

If it does, it's so negligible that you won't notice.  Live it on for maximum convenience.

  • Moving music files out of itunes

    Hi,
I've finally maxed out my 20GB on my device and once I did, I experienced hard drive problems, with the hard drive whirring and clicking and struggling along. I believe I may have finally solved that problem, but now I'd like to separate out a significant amount of my music from my Itunes Library. Is there a way I can keep my music on my hard drive, but not immediately accessible to Itunes so Itunes will load more quickly?
    Thanks for your time!
    ~daniel
      Windows XP

    daniel,
There is a way but, to be honest, I don't think it will make any difference in how quickly iTunes starts running. The reason being that iTunes only contains a list of references that point it to the location of your music files - and that location is not within iTunes itself.
You can delete those references by simply selecting (highlighting) them in your iTunes Library display and pressing the Delete key on your keyboard. (Ctrl-clicking or Shift-clicking will help you select multiple items.)
If iTunes asks you about deleting the files from your hard drive as well, just say no.

  • I cant get my itunes librairy and mozilla firefox bookmarks to sync. Help?

I cant get my itunes librairy and mozilla firefox bookmarks to sync. Help?

    What?
Well that must be a trick I've missed.
As far as I'm aware, you cannot sync "the iTunes Library" (the media - songs, videos, etc.) with Firefox, since Firefox's bookmarks are the locations of websites that you've marked in order to access them quickly. iTunes doesn't "visit websites". What am I missing, I'm curious to know?
What information, in iTunes, are you trying to sync with Firefox bookmarks?

This just started happening about 5 days ago. Whenever iTunes switches songs or I cycle through songs really quickly, iTunes crashes immediately. I have no idea why. I've removed all third-party codecs, plugins, etc. and I'm still getting the problem. Here's the latest error log if it helps:

  • Videos look awful in iTunes, much better in Quicktime Player

I was, just as many others, deceived by the quality of video clips bought on iTMS (I started with the beautiful Love Profusion, by Madonna, and M.Jackson's Thriller).
The picture appeared in particular pixellated in sull screen, this for many videos.
(and the interface is so stupid : why do you have to play a clip in order to be able to switch to full screen, except maybe to keep Quicktime Pro's full screen in QT Player option alive ?)
Then I just remembered how my videos played beautifully in Quicktime Player, and often awfully in iTunes, since iTunes 4.9.
So I tried them in Quicktime Player (I have a 7.0 Pro license). (select in iTunes, command-R, command-O, command-F, you're done)
    They look much much better.
And same goes for my non-iTMS videos, even after being converted to the iPod-friendly format with Quicktime Player.
I just remember reading from a member of the iTunes team how quick it had been to add video capabilities to iTunes (since 4.9 I think).
Maybe it was dine a bit too quickly.
I just thought it would have been fixed BEFORE the release of a video-capable iPod and the sale of video clips on the iTMS.
I now hope that on the video capable iPod (waiting for mine), these videos look more like in QT Player than like in iTunes Mac.
It looks like iTunes 6 forgets to or cannot do H.264 post-processing correctly. By the way, this post-processsing is part of the standard specification, according to Apple's technology brief
(http://images.apple.com/quicktime/pdf/H264TechnologyBrief.pdf), which means that the encoding process takes into account the de-pixellization done in post-processing (unlike divx for example, if I understand correctly), and that iTunes decoding is not even compliant to the H.264 standard.
Having such a bad, broken video player as iTunes 6 for both quality and ergonomy (at least on Mac) is SO STUPID.
I hope someone fixes the quality issue very quickly (Itunes 6.01?). If this person had time to make a "not as stupid as it is right now" interface for playing videos, that would make me happy again.
If anyone can confirm if this is a Mac only, or Mac WIndows issue, I'd be glad to know.

I do see a slight difference in quality between an .m4v file (purchased from the iTunes Music Store) when played in iTunes and QT player. If freezing at a specific frame, you can definitely notice the iTunes software seems to blur things and is less sharp (colors more dull, less pronounced).
As far as the interface is concerned for viewing videos inside of iTunes, the only real concern I have is the performance. QT player resize/scrubbing is much more effective.

  • An error comes up when trying to play tunes quick time failed to initialise error-2096 and screen goes weird ?? frustrated.

An error 2096 comes up on screen when trying to play iTunes from quick time says to uninstall tunes then re-install !! Started to happen after last upgrade from quick +iTunes and is frustrating as can't play anything ,is on Windows XP and was fine till now! Thanks in advance.

Is your QuickTime working if you try to open it?
If you get a 2096 error, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1875
    Otherwise see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1489
If your QuickTime works normally let me know.
The 2096 error has often been associated with compatability mode problems.
Otherwise try a complete removal of all iTunes related programs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Then download and install the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    Check that it works
    Then try installing iTunes.

  • Can I disable iTunes??

When I load a sound effects CD with 90 or 100 short tracks, it can take up to 10 minutes to load, sometimes longer. I get the impression that every track is being imported into iTunes. I just want/need to play a few tracks for a client sitting here watching the clock with both of us wondering what the heck is going on. Is there a way to bypass iTunes and just play CDs quickly.

  • How to do a complete uninstall of Itunes???

I have done this before but now I can't figure out how to do a complete uninstall. I am having issues of repeats of my songs and so I just want restart itunes from scratch.
    This what I have done
    Trashed Itunes
    Forced quick Itunes helper
    Removed Itunes folder in user
    Removed files in preferences.
If anyone can direct me on how to completely delete Itunes I would greatly appreciate it.

*I am having issues of repeats of my songs and so I just want restart itunes from scratch.*
No need to delete iTunes at all. That won't get rid of duplicates anyway.
    Go to Username/Music.
Drag the entire _iTunes folder_ to the desktop.
    Start iTunes.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Make sure *Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library* is ticked.
    File -> Add to library.
Select the iTunes folder on the desktop.
ONce it is done, delete the iTunes folder on the desktop.

  • How upload epub file on iTunes U

I created a feed with multiple epub in it and uploaded it by iTunes U Public Manager, then publish it on my istitution page.
If I try to download one of it (click on "free" button) the button changes and nothing is downloaded.
If I try to upload manually an epub file on iPad, iBooks open it quickly. iTunes not.
I've checked the epub file by different "epub validator" and it is ok.
    So, what is the problem?

  • ITunes 7.7.1 crashes HP OfficeJet 7310

My father bought a Nano and installed iTunes on his computer. Whenever he tried to start iTunes, his network-connected printer (HP OfficeJet 7310) would crash, and cause iTunes to freeze.
After some experimenting, and since it was the only computer using that printer, I moved the printer to USB instead, and now everything works.
Has anyone seen something like that before? I assume it's something to do with iTunes searching for media devices. I do have the search for AppleTV and airtunes turned off.

I had the same problem with a new Mini.
I called tech support, the rep said reinstall itunes using the supplied system disks. I asked if I should uninstall the itunes 7.01, the tech said I would be given the option when I reinstalled, and to be sure and have a backup as the data would have to be restored.
This turned out not to be true, I was never given an uninstall or any other option. When I finished the procedure, I still had 7.01 and all of my data. Apparently the tech was confusing reinstalling the OS with reinstalling Itunes only.
However, itunes seems to be fixed as I haven't been able to make it crash. The jury is still out.
As an aside, The read before install file is incorrect on my system. It states to click "Install Bundled Software Only" to install Itunes. This takes about an hour and installs almost everything except Itunes. The quick Itunes install is another separate option that is obscured at the bottom of the window. I forgot the title, but it only takes a few seconds.

  • Why does my I Tunes play only some of my library when it can't access the external hard drive from which I imported some of the music? My esternal hard drive has been corrupted, but I    thought I Tunes would have "saved" songs I dragged to it.

Some of my ITunes library came from CDs, some from an external hard drive with songs  in it.  My external hard drive went bad, which I wouln't have thought would have affected my Itunes library or the songs I had previously imported to it from the external drive.  But now the Itunes cannot locate many of those songs. Is there some process of importing/saving that is different when you import from CD? Hope someone can help.....MN

    Hi MNinPungo,
When adding music to iTunes from another location (for example, an external hard drive), iTunes can either make a local copy of the file in the iTunes Library or create a pointer to the original file in the original location, depending on the preferences you have set. You may find the following article helpful:
    Add to Library
So you can access content quickly, iTunes indexes all music, audio book, and video files that you add to iTunes. This index is called the iTunes library. When you add content to the library, iTunes adds an entry for each audio or movie file to your index. The files could be in your Home folder, somewhere else on your hard drive, on an external hard disk, or on another computer that you're accessing through file sharing.
To add files to your iTunes library, you can use these options:
Drag files from the Finder to the appropriate icon on the left side of the iTunes window.
Choose File > Add to Library (on Windows, choose Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library) and select the song or folder that you want to add.
iTunes adds entries to your iTunes library for the selected files and copies the files to your iTunes Music folder (if you selected that option in the Advanced pane of iTunes preferences).

  • Want to view iMovie on Tv Through ATV2

I shot a video with my iPhone and made it into a movie.  It is now in iTunes.  I want to stream it to my TV but can't.  It is my understanding that I can use Home sharing or Airplay.  While I can access my iTunes library through the ATV2, it takes forever to load into the ATV2 (wants to load everything).  Movies do show up as an option in the ATV2 but go on loading forever.  Is there someone with the patience to give me a walk through on this.  I know that I can stream directly from the phone to the ATV2, but that's not the issue.  Also, I would like to know if that same move should be able to be streamed from my iMac to my iPad2.  In general, how does one get selected items (or folders) from iTunes to the ATV2?

Since nobody else want to respond, I thought I might take a crack at answering your questions...
Movies do show up as an option in the ATV2 but go on loading forever.
This sounds like a connection problem—either a poor/weak connection or the TV2 device and content library not sharing the same network/sub-net.
Also, I would like to know if that same move should be able to be streamed from my iMac to my iPad2.
Yes, assuming the apps are properly updated.
In general, how does one get selected items (or folders) from iTunes to the ATV2?
I prepared a QT Quickie demo showing how I do this. The background clips is what is seen on my TV2 device and the insert in the upper, right-hand corner shows part of my monitor screen. Both clips were taken contemporaneously but owning to the 60 fps TV screen capture as opposed to the 24 fps monitor screen capture, they are not sync'd as well as they might have been. In any event, I believe it demonstrates the basics of sending content from iTunes on your computer to the TV device via Air Video and then returning it back to the computer.
