Quick preview/ How do I disable Hot&coldSpotw

Hi, in the first version of Aperture I had no Hot&Coldspots in my Quickpreviews. Now I do have this al the time in Aper 3. How can I shut this off. I only would like to have this in my normal view.

Either push "Shift + Option + H" or use the menu command "Highlight Hot & Cold Areas" under the "View" menu.
When you enter quick preview, it's locked on/off depending on the setting you are currently using. I don't believe there is a way to change this behavior in Aperture.

  • How do I disable the webpage preview that pops up when I hover my mouse over a tab?

I don't know why this started today, but it is driving me nuts!
I was surfing the net, when all of a sudden I noticed that whenever I hovered my mouse over one of my tabs, a (poorly rendered) preview of the webpage popped up from my mouse. I really do not need this feature. I don't need to have a mini-webpage preview of another tab.
Please, how do I disable this feature?
*note: I have disabled all my add-ons, and still nothing. I disabled my hardware acceleration, and still nothing. Please!

I've never noticed that. Do these old threads shed any light?

  • How do I disable the Bing search preview in Firefox?

How do I disable the Bing search preview feature? This feature is similar to the Google search page preview feature for which I have found remedy.

Thanks. I have that unchecked. I'm speaking of when you slide the cursor to the right of a search "hit", an arrow appears along with a bit more detailed text box of the corresponding hit. Seems like the google version was disabled in the [about:config] settings.

  • How do I disable the "Quick Search" feature?

I don't need or want the Quick Search function on Firefox. Simply deleting the Quick Search bookmarks folder doesn't get rid of it because it automatically reappears as soon as I restart Firefox. How do I disable this feature altogether?

    Here's what worked for me.
Right click in the toolbar area to get the toolbar customization menu. That is, right click just to the right of the "Help" button on the Menu Bar.
    You'll see:
    Menu Bar,
    Navigation Toolbar,
    Bookmarks Toolbar
These three may or may not have check marks, but you want to click on the fourth item, below the line, "customize".
Left click the customize button and the "customize toolbar" window appears. Click and hold the "quick search" and drag it into the customize window and release. Quick search should settle itself into the customize toolbar window, patiently waiting if you ever decide you might want it again. : )

Okay, I installed that ancient add-on. The instructions on that page are:

    >> You can change these settings with the following two preferences:<br />
    >> user_pref("searchkeys.link.key", xxx);<br />
    >> user_pref("searchkeys.find.key", xxx);<br />
    >> where xxx is the ascii code of the key you like for the action.<br />

  • Download images with safari opens preview - how to disable it?

Every time after a image is downloaded, preview opens itself to show the image. It really annoys me, so how could I disable this? Many thanks!

Preview is the default app for downloaded images. Do you want another application to open the Image, or do you prefer it remains unopened? If the latter, go to Safari Preferences>General and uncheck "open safe files after downloading".
If you uncheck that selection, anything downloaded in Safari will not open automatically. You'll have to manually do it.
If you want another application to open the image, go to the location of your Safari downloads and single-click on an image file. Then Command and I keys to open the Info panel. Down the bottom, click on the "open with" drop down menu. Navigate to your application of choice. After you select it, select "change all" on the Info panel. Future image files will open with that application.

  • How do I disable autohide sidebar in preview?

Hi, first post in this comunity. I hope you can help me...
In fullscreen preview, when I select the second or third view from the left ("thumbnails" or "table of contents") the document leaves space for the sidebar to appear. The issue comes whenever I swich from the app. Once I come back, the sidebar autohides leaving the linen background where the sidebar once was. What's the point in leaving that unocupied space if the sidebar is going to autohide?
tl:dr: How do I disable autohide sidebar in the "thumbnails" and "table of contents" view?

  • How to create a version that looks like the "quick preview" image?

Is there a way to easily create a version that is similar in appearance (mostly apparent as saturation)to what is seen when hitting the P key and viewing the "quick preview"? I shoot raw (Canon .cr2) and find that for many of my shots, the "quick preview" would be a nice starting point, and often a fine end-result, for saturation. Any hints welcomed. Thanks. Fred

Thanks for your comments and I certainly agree with your suggestions. I was hoping that there was something that I was overlooking that would essentially work like a "lift/stamp" and let me find settings that were embedded in the camera generated jpg. I know that you know your way around Aperture, so if you don't have a trick up your sleeve, I think it's probably not to be found.

  • Thumbnail/Quick Preview/Export have strange grey overlay

I spent quite some time googling this issue, so it's starting to seem like a "just me" issue. Yet I can't find a way to solve it, so here I go asking for help.
I have a library with a single project and a series of photos in it. Most photos have a crop, white balance, exposure, sharpen and curve global adjustments, as well as areas with definition brush strokes and dodge brush strokes. The dodge brush was used to make the "almost white" background around product in the shot completely white.
The thumbnails display a light grey (around 250;250;250 RGB, although it varies a bit) blotchy overlay in the areas of the image that are expected to be white. When I click on a thumbnail to bring up the larger image into view, for the first few seconds, while the "loading" spinner is visible on top, the grey overlay can also be seen on the enlarged image. After loading is finished, it disappears. If I turn on the Quick Preview mode, the grey overlay persists and does not go away. Images that I have viewed enlarged with Quick Preview turned off continue to display correctly when I come back to them after looking at other images, as if they are cached in memory. After I view a few dozen images, though, these correct versions seem to be evicted from cache, and I get the grey overlay during the "loading" period again.
The grey overlay does not correspond one-to-one with the area where brush strokes have been applied.
The scariest part of it all is that when I try to export versions, they are exported with the grey overlay intact.
I have tried rebuilding thumbnails, reprocessing masters, repairing permissions, repairing the database. The problem persists. I have tried disabling the dodge adjustment but unchecking it and then checking it again. The problem persists. I have tried removing the dodge adjustment and then brushing it on from scratch. The problem persists.
Out of ideas now. Please help. I would love to attach screenshots, but don't see an option to do so.

All you are seeing is the difference between the fully-decoded image created on the fly by applying the adjustments saved as instructions in the Version text file to the Master image file, and the Preview created according to the parameters you set in Preferences.
If the Previews don't meet your needs, try a higher quality/larger dimensions.
    Likewise for your exports.
What are your Preview and Export settings?
Take a look at the highlighted section
How Aperture Displays Images in the Viewer
on this page in the User Manual.

  • How do I disable quicklookd

    Dear all,
Could anyone please suggest a reason for the following behavior:
    1. Open a text file on the Desktop up in bbedit
    2. make a change
    3. save
    4. quicklookd begins consuming 3-4 GB of ram and 100% CPU.
Apparently, it is trying to create a preview for me of this text file, and whatever that entails requires 3 GB of ram. This is really bad for a variety of reasons.
How can I disable quicklookd completely? Should i remove all of the quick look plugins? or is there a less drastic way to do this?
    Thanks!

  • How can I disable input on the ALV gridview?

    Hi everybody,
I'm developing an application and would like for my users to be able to view the data in the ALV grid. Actually the only thing they may be able to do are delete rows from the ALV.
I set the ALV grid to editmode so you can insert and delete rows. But  how can I disable the Insert functionality without losing the delete functionality?
Is is possible to just remove or hide the 'add row' button in the toolbar?

    Wouter,
It is possible to EXCLUDE buttons from the ALV GRID tool bar.  You didn't mention if you were using OO or not, therefore I will assume you are not.

Do a Get Info on one of the PDF files - select the file (click it once), then press Command-I (Get Info in the File menu).

  • Cannot get Quick Preview to run....

Hi, this might sound really stupid.
I'm new to Aperture. Love the idea of Quick Preview - but how do I get it to work???
I watched the online Aperture's official tutorial videos (which flickr really bad, btw) and used 'Help'. When I press 'P' or go to 'View, Quick Preview' - the images don't actually move. It says 'Quick Preview' under the image, but they are stationary. I tried selecting all of them, but, no, same thing.
I think I am missing something real simple. Can someone help? Much appreciated.

That answers it then! Thanks for your quick reply Ian.
What I was looking for is some way to have images run on the screen and mark my selections. I used FotoStation a lot. And I am missing it a lot in terms of picture selection - you run slide show, press spacebar to mark the pics you are selecting. When the slide show finishes you can give that selection a colour or a rating, in a bulk, all at once. I was hoping quick preview would do a similar thing - quick flick through big sets, choosing images by one key-press, then adding info in a bulk (in Fotostation, all my first-round selection is green, then I choose to display only the green ones, and from those I choose a more narrow, final selection, the red ones).
I find this is a really fast and effective way to go through big sets. Do you know if there is anything similar in Aperture? Can you mark images from a slide show and then add bulk rating/other-selection-criteria.
Sorry if these questions are a bit too basic! I have not found an answer in Aperture's tutorials.

  • Keychain frustration - How do I disable it?

My teachers log into an Xserve and run Entourage for email. I have had a lot of problems with Keychain access. I don't need it (I think), we are not the Bank of America. How do I disable it?

It sounds like you need my Keychain 101 class. I'll give you the quick version.
Your Keychain is an encrypted database where Mac OSX stores the passwords that you ask it to remember. As with any encrypted database, it can only be read with the right key (or password). By default, the password for your keychain (called login) is the same as your login password. When your login password matches your keychain password, the keychain unlocks when you log in.
You cannot unlock any keychain without knowing what the password is. This is Apple's way of making it safe to store passwords inside a file.
Out of sync: So how do passwords get out of sync in a managed environment? 2 main ways: 1) an administrator changes the password of a user. This causes the user's login password to no longer match the keychain password. 2) A users password expires, and is forced to change it at the login screen (prior to 10.4.6). This also causes an issue because the keychain is not unlocked at the time the password is changed. The keychain must be unlocked to change the password that it is encrypted with.
Luckily, there is a great little utility called Keychain Minder (Google it) which aids you in keeping your keychain in sync. It was developed by the friendly folks at afp548.com specifically for this reason. I won't get into details about what it does, but it works really well.
If you want to keep a healthy keychain, change your login password before it expires (it would be nice if Apple had a warning... ) and don't forget it and force an administrator to change it on the server.
As for "needing" keychain.. if you want people to be able to store passwords in OS X, you need a keychain to put them in.
    Hope this helps.
