Quick QBE issues

Hello to all, and particularly Scott
I grabbed the QuickQBE application to add this type of functionality to my app. Thanks, Scott, for providing this useful app.
But I have two problems with using it in my application. I created a link based on a column in my table called URL by adding #URL# as the link target. The report shows up fine, but the link is a link back to the actual page in the HTML-DB app, rather than the link to target specified in the column. I figure this might be due to the inner working of the PL/SQL function. Is there anyway to get around this?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Rick,
You can provide link information w/the Quick QBE application, just like any other HTML DB Report.
You'll have to provide at least a Page Number under the Link section of the Column Attributes.

Quick preview issues

I’m using a late 2008 MBP and SL 10.6.4 with AP3. After importing around 5000 RAW to a new project, quick preview in full screen isn’t working properly. Viewing the photos in full screen at full resolution is not an issue. Only when switching to quick preview, the image disappears and the screen goes black. When flipping through the photos in full screen and quick preview on, the photos flash up for a blink of an eye before the screen goes black again.
What I’ve tried so far is to delete and generate new previews, repair permissions and the library and rebuild the library. However, as a result all projects now have the same issue. Moreover, photos aren’t shared with other (iLife) applications. The projects in the photo browser in Mail as well as the control panel for desktop background are empty. Sharing with iTunes, i.e. syncing photos on my iPhone, doesn’t work (again, projects have 0 photos). Of course, sharing is enabled in AP preferences. I’ve read several articles about this sharing problem but the solutions posted didn’t work for me. As sharing uses the jpg files, I guess this is somehow related to the quick preview issue.
It seems that for some reason Aperture does not read the jpg files. Any ideas what else I can try to solve this? Thanks!

Unfortunately, I do not have a solution for you because I am struggling with a similar problem since the release of AP3. I have also experienced the blink of an eye appearance and disappearance of some previews. Also, sometimes the thumbnails and the preview pictures shown are unrelated, or the previews are scrambled. I have tried every AP2 to AP3 conversion strategy in the book; the result is always the same. Hope Apple finds a solution for this quickly.

Quick preview issues - can someone please test

Quick preview does not seem to work correctly.
When photographing, I do not have my camera automatically rotate my images. I do this so I can see a full preview on the LCD on the back of the camera. When I download images into Aperture, I rotate manually.
With the advent of Quick Preview, I have begun to use it only to find that with RAW files, the manually rotated image appears squished and not formatted correctly in the viewer (2nd display). Images that were not manually rotated appear fine. For some reason, when photograph in JEPG, the same issue does not surface. All images, manually rotated included, appear fine in the viewer.
Could someone please test if this is happening for themselves too.

Quick Select Issue

When I choose quick select after I outline an object it creates squares and circles inside of the object outlined. I have no control over what is being outlined. This creates a huge problem and I have no idea why it's happening. I've watched videos and haven't seen this issue. Even if I try and de-select these areas it just deletes the whole area that I was attempting to select. What's going on?

Jeff, I updated the NVIDIA driver and QuickSelect is no longer crashing PS. Thank you very much for steering me in the right direction. I appreciate your help very much.

Complicated possible workaround for Keynote to Quick Time issues etc.??

I've been experiencing many of the issues already presented here. This is obviously a major issue that Apple may already be trying to fix for an update, but they never tell anyone what they are doing. My project contains .mov files with audio and they just don't behave, the audio is off and movie files either play with disjoionted audio, or, freeze on the first frame. Also, half the transitions don't export to quick time, idvd or any other format I've tried.
For those with 2 computers and a little extra hardware, I've got a possible workaround that "may" at least get the project rolling again. I hooked my MacBook Pro into my Eye TV 250 and switching to AV input, simply played the presentation I'd recorded with all my timings and transitions through the Eye TV box into my desktop computer. I then exported the live recording through the Eye TV software to a .mov file and all the transistions and audio seemed to be the way I set them up. I then brought this movie into Garage Band and added a backing track.
Eye250 is not ideal for commercial projects because I seem to have some quality loss, BUT, I was importing to a G4 mac Mini so maybe that's an issue as well. If anyone else has an external digital video input device and two Intel machines, could they please try this out and see if the quality is HD.
If this works, it would at least be a workaround for guys with commercial projects on deadline until Apple fixes their software. Appreciate any input!!!!

Sadly, IP printing is not a feasible solution for me. When I configure it as you've described, the print job goes to the queue and stalls with this message--
Network host '192.168.0.187' is busy; will retry in 10 seconds...
This print-once-then-never-again issue is very frustrating. Airport express has been an unreliable print server from the get-go. The firmware hasn't been updated in two years and Apple has never published a list of supported USB printers. It's one of those things they want reps in the apple store to be able to verbally tell people that the product will do, but in writing, "good luck with that."
I'm getting on Amazon right now to find a real print server. AE is a burner of time.

Can I add my work email address to the list of servers in Quick Office Pro HD. I can't seem to find any info regarding this question. Please help if anyone has knowledge of this. Thanks!

This is a forum for discussion of issues and techniques with Apple's now discontinued productivity application, AppleWorks, an application written for Mac OS 9 then ported to OS X, and with a version for Windows. It's unlikely you'll find an expert on Microsoft Quick Office for iPad here. The best place to look would be Microsoft's site. Failiing that, you might try one of the iPad or iOS communities here.

N8 - Quick Office issue

Hi all,
Not sure if any one has experienced same weird issue as me but... the thing is:
Set theme to anyother than Black... open Quick Office (or Acrobat Reader)... and start exploring phone content (either phone memory or Mass Memory).
Result is a complete mess. Can't see nor read anything... lot of symbols appear ont he screen.
I've reset phone and reinstall quick Office viewer... but no improvement.
Went to shop again... and test the sample phone they had there... it had no issue... so I returned my phone and got money back.
I'm considering wether to buy it again or not...
Has anyone experienced same issue?

if you have install the firmware second time and dont open it may be because it remebers the last settings
which it may something happening in the register keys??that is because maybe you have done before an other instalation with it
did you paid and downloaded from ovi before?
i am not that expert but if i was you i will try the follow
1) if you have paid before from ovi...send them email with your purcase number but they are very slow in reply may take days, cos it happened to me in the past
2) if you have never paid for quick office from ovi before
go from your mobile web to quick office web site (use the search of your phone web) and somewhere they have a free download for limited time trial and download it from there
3) you can do hard reset First (so any previous bugs should remove and register keys return to their original) and then do the 13.012 update PR 1.1again via ovi suite at your pc
BUT...
you will loose any saved files and programs if you have paid, photos videos, text etc
and also other programs may give you trouble like download again ovi maps or ovi store
if you try hard reset send the pics, files, document, videos to pc (will take you some time)
and later sloly slowly when you have time send back from pc to phone

Filter quick collection issue

Don't know if this is an issue only seen in LR 2.2 or if it's prevalent in older versions as well. I'm on 2.2 for Mac.
I've added a bunch of images from one folder to a quick collection and working in the quick collection I've assigned star ratings to them. When I filter the quick collection using "rating = *****" I get 18 results while I have actually assigned a 5 star rating to 42 images that reside in the quick collection. When I switch back to the folder containing the images and filter it using the same "rating = *****", I get all those 42 results.
Unless I'm doing something wrong I can not count on filtering in the quick collection. Is this the way it's supposed to work?

Dang, Dorin, how could I have overlooked it: I had the (quiet inconspicuous) "no label" filter set to ON. Overlooked it maybe 20 times! Hadn't you stated you don't see this behaviour, I wouldn't have looked again for the 21st time.

Quick Collection Issue

I'm having strange issues with the Quick Collection tool, in my old catalog and a newly created (in 1.1) one. I can use the Add to Quick Collection shortcuts et all, and they're added to the Quick Collection as well (number after the Quick Collection in the Library panel), but when I click on the Quick Collection in that same Library panel, it doesn't update the Library view to what's actually in the Quick Selection but shows whatever was active before clicking on Quick Selection. If I Save the Quick Collection to another collection that newly saved collections works fine, and it does contain the right images which I can select and use, but this is cumbersome. Since this is an issue with a very basic and often used tool, I'm wondering what's going on.

Yup, had same problem as yours with Quick Collections containing files,
but not showing them - at least in Win-XP ... simple solution [bug reported]: in 'Library' menu, turn ON the "Include Photos from Submenu" toggle switch (just click on it, and a checkmark appears to its left). And voila, your photos appear as if by magic.
Not the worst 1.1 bug perhaps, more of a glitch, but sure irksome till resolved. Good luck!

ITunes won't run because of Quick Time issue

I can't get Quick Time to work, so I can use my ITunes. I have tried to reinstall. but it just gives me an error sending report.
Any help, pleae.

That error message suggests that you have or have had one of the problem programs I listed. It is possible that one may have been installed with something else. You need to be sure you have got rid of these programs. They are bad news for Quicktime.
Here is the procedure if the uninstall fails - you need to do an installer cleanup:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)

Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup

Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP

Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

QBE issue when using different db types

Our ADF application has the ability to connect to the same schema but different backends (Oracle and SQL Server). I have successfully implemented switching the AM data source. I am running into a syntax issue when performing Query By Example for a table. The error is (Incorrect Syntax near "|"). In the VOImpl I overrode the function public String getViewCriteriaClause(boolean forQuery) and I can see the viewCriteriaClause is "( (UPPER(TransMasterEO.TMMessage) LIKE UPPER( ? || '%') ) )". This works when running against the Oracle instance but fails when running against the SQL Server instance.
I implemented code to replace the "||" with "+" but then we fail on Oracle. Can someone recommend an approach to resolve?

he different dbs yre using different sql flavors. This is causing trouble if you change the connection to a db which is using a different flavor. I'm not aware that you can change the flavor used to build the queries to, but you can implement your own sqlbuilder which may just extend from the one for hte right flavor and then build the sql through the right class.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install.

Quick Sound Issue

I'm having an issue with alsa--it won't start.

This just started happening yesterday, after I rebooted my computer for the newer kernel. Could that possibly be the problem?

Yet another Quick TIme issue.

I made new audio in Digital Performer and imported an MOV file as the source video. The new file was saved as an MOV and plays perfectly on a mac. However, when I try to play this on my pc's QT, I have to load the new file first THEN the original file before both the video/audio play. Help!

OK, that makes total sense. Thank you very much Jon; that explains the issue very clearly. This of course begs another question though; how to I merge the new audio file and the original video file?
That may depend on how you plan to play the file. My preferred strategy is to create a new target file and prevent the original source files from being accidentally modified in case I need to repeat the merge sequence.
1) Open the source files.
2) Create a new empty player.
3) Copy the individual files to the empty player in the order you wish them played.
4 Save the resulting new file as a stand alone file.
This merged file would play in most versions of QT based apps but maight be a problem in some versions of mobile device players which require content be "flattened" to individual audio and video tracks. (I.e., the QT 7 player can play up to 99 mixed data tracks but some versions of the mobile players do not.)
