Quicktime 10.1 fps setting

Is there any way to change a default setting on the fps that QT uses for recording?
I'm running a 2.8 GHz core i7 with 8 GB RAM and it seems silly that I can barely muster 15 fps on screen recordings.

No.

Specific frame rate will depend on the platform/number and type of CPUs availalable, the specific compression format, capture dimensions, number of additional apps/processes simultaneously active etc. Most people would record to a dedicated device using a fixed frame rate option and then captute/import the resulting file in a manner that retaines the desired original or transcoded properties desired. The ability for QT to captuer/transcode is a convience at best and is not considered a preferred work flow by most serious users.

  • FPS Setting Is Ignored in QT Export

Greetings. When I export a project to QuickTime, the FPS of the output file is always 29.97, no matter what FPS I set.
Have tested exports in H.264, MPEG-4 Video, and Sorensen Video 3. Have tried choosing a preset FPS (15) and entering a custom one. Result is always 29.97 FPS.
Using iMovie 7.1.1 (529) and OS 10.5.1. Problem was the same before and after applying iLife Support 8.2 update.
    Is anyone else seeing this?

    Hi Robert
Hmmm, I just tested by creating a Master Page with no CSS assigned. I then associated it with all my topics and the CSS was left alone.
Your call on whether you wish to pursue or not. But it's pretty straightforward to associate a single Master Page with all your topics. You just select them all in the Topic List pod, right-click and look at properties, then from the General tab you choose the desired Master Page.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Quicktime - "play on startup" setting ???

Quicktime, how to set "play on startup" option?
Can't find settings for this option on my iMac quicktime.
In ms windows, there was a setting for this, but on quicktime X ???

Glad you found something that works - not sure I deserved a star, but thanks anyway!

  • I get 120 hours render time on quicktime h.264 usualy setting

    My Computer :
Processor : Radeon HD graphics APU A10-5745M 2.10GHz
    Ram installed : 16 Go ( 15.52 usable , 12go on AAE CC )
    Graphic cards :  R7 m260 and HD 8610G
My project : 10 min long , 3 audio spectrum with glow and a '' bass shake fx on all of them ''
Usual render time for 1 audio spectrum 5 min long song and bass shake FX = 30 min  , Same setting
My setting Quicktime H.264 , Lossless sound , Best quality .
I try to render and i alway get between 80 and 120 hours ... make no sense , it should be max an hour . theres 20k frames to be rendered .
Now when i installed media encoder it does not help it and still is Sooooooo long to render .... im not sure how to fix this without losing quality

It seems to be helping quite a bit , but the render is still up at like 41 hours so .... i don't understand ? does having multiple audio spectrum and a bass shake effect on all of them for 11 minute increase the render time by so much ? my first video was quite fast even on h.264  ?  it doesnt look that fancy to me lol

  • Quicktime 7.13 Flash Setting won't stick

OK,I got no answers posting in the OS X Server page,
so I'd thought I'd post this here in QT to see if
    anyone has dealt with this?
    so here is the scenario:
Quicktime 7.13's "enable flash" checkbox bug
caused all of our elem grade Flash based software
    to stop working properly.
I went into the Admin account on one of 80 macs
managed by OD. I set the QT prefs to have the
checkbox enabled, and then closed out of the
Quicktime Prefs pane. I then went and made a copy of
that QT Prefs file, and copied down into
    System/Library/User Template/English.local/Library/Prefs/
making sure to change back from admin to system before closing out
the Info panel, and then rebooted the machine.
Logged in as a newly created user, and the pref does stick.
But log in as a legacy OD user, and the pref does not stick,
    it shows to be disabled.
What should I try next to get this pref to stick for all OD users
    when they log in?
All Macs run 10.4.8, QT 7.13.
    Server is OSX Tiger Server.

Had this happen on a colleague's iMac at work. Clicked Enable Flash checkbox - quit Quicktime - preference doesn't save.
This is on a normal one user account Mac on a network - is it the same bug and will your solution fix it?
    Thanks
    Greg
    Answered my own question.
Here are the steps to fix this issue:
#1. Go log into the SERVER as admin.
#2. Set the "Enable Flash" setting in QT PREF Pane,
close out of the pref pane.
#3 Log out a admin, log back in as admin.
#4 Make a copy of the admin's QT prefs, place on
    desktop.
    #5 Go into System/Library/Usr
    Templates/English.lproj/Library/Prefernces/
ON THE SERVER, and copy into the Preferences folder
    that copy of
the admin's QT Prefs you placed on the desktop
    earlier.
#6 Close out all windows, making sure to reset all
    prefs on files
    and folders to system ownership.
Go to a client and test. If the setting doesn't stick
    on the managed
    user account, then:
#1 Login to the machine as admin.
#2 Search for Managed Accounts folder, trash all
    contents of this folder.
#3 empty trash, then logout as admin
#4 log in as managed user account. Should apply now.

  • Flash Stage fps setting

I'm trying to get a sfw to play smoothly on the web. If I encode a F4V at 30 fps, do I also need to set the fps of the Flash stage to 30 fps? Or can the stage fps be set at 15 fps, which I have read is better for the web.

the main swf's fps won't have on impact on the encoded flv's playback.

  • Saving DV footage to Quicktime for web - which setting?

I have a 12s piece of footage I have opened in Quicktime, which I'd like to export for use on the web as an example piece. Can somebody suggest which settings would give me a small file suitable for this? There is no setting which simply says 'web, streaming'.

I have a 12s piece of footage I have opened in Quicktime, which I'd like to export for use on the web as an example piece. Can somebody suggest which settings would give me a small file suitable for this?Choice of settings depends on your target audience and viewing preferences. Would personally recommend using H.264, MPEG4, or Sorenson 3 video. The H.264 will provide the smallest file and best quality at given data rate but restricts viewers to QT 7 or equivalen players. MPEG4 allows use of QT 6/7 (and equivalent players) and is les CPU intensive but reqires about 3 times the data rate of an H.264 for the same level of quality. Sorenson 3 probably has the widest compatibility factor. All can be used to provide reasonably good audio/video playback at internet connection speeds as low as 384 kbps -- lower if you will accept "fair" levels of quality. Actual settings, of course, depend on the display size and level of quality you can live with. As to streaming, do you actually plan to use a streaming server or are you simply referring to a "fast start" web site file similar to those used for QT trailers? If the latter, simply save your files in a "MOV" file container to automatically set the "fast start" option or use manual options during compression depending on the fortmat/workflow used.

  • How can I export a Keynote presentation to Quicktime while maintaining my set transitions?

I try to export a Keynote presentation to Quicktime. This works, obviously, although it doesn't maintain the carefully timed transitions I set up. Instead, it just the default transition time for every slide, instead of the custom transitions I entered.
The default transition time now is 5 seconds. I tried removing the 5 but it just returns and entering 0 seconds does exactly that; 0 seconds.
Does anybody have an idea as to what I should do to fix this dastardly problem?

This is a well known problem with Keynote 6.1, the only thing you can do is use Keynote 5.3 instead, if you have it.
Meanwhile sit back and wait to see if Apple issues a fix in the schedule of updates they said they would issue during 2014.

  • Better quality, export specific settings via quicktime or in sequence setti

I am wondering, since I am recording video at 1080 HD on my canon hf10, would I get better quality if I IMPORTED the footage into final cut AT FULL HD QUALITY (1080) and edit in FCP at 1080 and then EXPORT to a 720p setting for youtube OR would I get better quality in changing the SEQUENCE PRESET to a 720p setting in FCP and work with it as 720?

I don't think that there would be any quality difference if you cut in 1080 versus the destination 720. Just cut it in 1080 and then convert to 720 when going to youtube. You'll have a higher res copy for any future use.
If there is any quality difference, which I doubt there would be, it would probably be so minute, especially since it is web video.

  • Starting a quicktime movie at a set time

Does anyone know if there is a way to get a movie to start up at a set time? to play at full screen and loop?
    Alex

Thanks but we need to deploy a package to all of our Macs.  I have a .DMG file that we can deploy.  But, once deployed to our Mac's how do you setup a schedule task to the app will auto run at a set time?

  • Using imovie 10.0 - No export for Quicktime and no export setting options

    Hi Everyone
I am working with imovie 10.0 on Mavericks 10.9.2 and I am trying to export my video for better qualities then just using the share button and choosing file.
It seems the export to quick time is not there anymore and I want to make sure I get the best quality possible.
    Any help with this?
    Thank you,
    Ash

I'm in the middle of importing family home videos from VHS. It used to be awesome and I could export the exact file I was hoping to upload to a shared media server. Now my 480X640 Videos have black bars on the sides and I can change the proportions of my project! A 26min video at standard def resolution with 480X640 source video is a whopping 2.6Gigs!! These won't even stream from my beefy synology media server on a 30MBS UPLOAD because the buffering keeps pausing these massive files. I have 2 hour movies in 1080p that buffer faster than this 26 min SD VHS video!
C'mon Apple, simplify but lets us dive in and find our original workflow so we can continue to use your products how we have been.
Sincerley, loyal mac fan.. optimistic some export & project features start to magically appear in updates. :-(

  • Setting up correct sequnce settings for animation imports

I've created some animation scenes that I want to assemble into a movie in FCP. The highest quality export is as 720, I guess HD, at 20 fps, all info I only found out after having exported. Using Easy Setup I chose DVCPRO HD 720np30. The other sensible seeming option was HDV 720p30. Is either preferable? I am talking not just about in a sequence but when outputting for dvds. I guess there's no problem exporting for internet.

My experience with exporting animations from After Effects is that I use the Animation compression and dump that Quicktime into whatever sequence setting I eventually wanted the media to end up as. So if I were creating a DVCPro HD project, I'd just use the Easy setup with those settings and dump the animations in there.
Since you are using 20 fps instead of a normal television frame rate, you might run into some issues. Why not export the animations at 30p or whatever matches your sequence settings? If you are just going out to DVDs, then why not just create a DV timeline and match your animation fps to your FCP sequence? Also, remember to export a de-interlaced version of your sequence when going to web.

  • FCP Sequence Setting?

I am creating multiple projects using the DVCPro HD 720p30 Easy Setup. All my projects will either be in HD on Apple Displays or for SD, so the p30 is what I want, correct? Anyway, in my Sequence Settings, I use the Frame Size: 960x720, HD (960x720)(16:9) from the drop down menu. Then under Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720). My editing timebase is 23.98 (30), but under that is the Quicktime Video Settings. What codec should I select for Compressor? DVCPro HD 720p30 doesn't show up, only p50 or p60 are there. I've been using p60. Does this matter? It will still be downsampled to 30 fps anyway, correct?
Other question is, should my Compressor setting under the Quicktime Video Settings be set to DVCPro HD 720p60 or something else, like none or 10-bit uncompressed? How critical is this setting? I haven't come across this in my readings yet. All my 960x720 projects have come out looking fine on my Keynote slides at 1280x720. And whats up with the weird sizes, 960x720 vs. 1280x720?

This is a good question. I always finish a DVCPro project by exporting a self-contained movie "Using current settings". However, in my Sequence Settings, I have the pop-up menu in
    Sequence->Settings...->QuickTime Video Settings->Compressor
    set to DV/DVCPro - NTSC.
Would my self-contained movie be better quality if my Compressor pop-up were set to DVCPro HD 720p60?
And whats up with the weird sizes, 960x720 vs. 1280x720?
The camera chip doesn't have 1280 pixels across, so it records in anamorphic 960. FCP expands it to 1280 on the fly. That's why imported Photoshop files must have been created in 1280.

the results i get a odd. - the video exports fine, except for the beginning titles, instead a still frame image from somewhere else in the video occupies that intro, until the first transition- in this case- dip to white, then the rest of the video is fine. the portion of the beginning  that does not show are composed of:  livetype text credits in V2 - in which i have done a manual opacity fade up and down - so the livetype text fades in, over matte color solid in V1. in the exported video -i do not see any of this, all i see is a seemingly random still from somewhere else in the video. i can however hear the audio as it is supposed be.
cant figure out why this is happening. anybody know?
    i think the livetype files are 1920 x 1080.
my FCP sequence is 720 p
this has only recently started happening and doesn't seem to be consistent.
im wondering if it has to do with the live type files, or the white solid?…
    or the conversion settings above?

    Alistair
Earlybird is exporting H264 ... the Key Frames setting is determining the GOP length. This value should really be determined based on the complexity of the video, to my understanding, the actual frame rate has no bearing on it. If you have very complex fast moving content then a low Key Frame rate is advisable to ensure good image quality (although it will adversely affect the filesize) whereas if you have slow moving or static content (like an interview subject) then a higher Key Frame rate will still produce a good image but at a smaler filesize. The default of 24 should be pretty much fine as a catchall starting point.
    Earlybird
Corrupted render files (and render references) can be a pain because FCP will use those files and references  in place of the original media when building the export. And so it should as it does't want to waste time re-rendering sections that are apparently already rendered. Unfortuantely, as noted, if the render file has gone bad and/or starts referencing the wrong media then you'll get these wierd flashes of completely unexpeced and unwanted footage showing up where it shouldn't be. When you trash those files then QT / FCP will just go back and re-reference the original media ... so it's usually a worthwhile step to take just in case thats the problem.  The worse case scenario is that it only that doesn't work and you spend some time unecessarily re-rendering.
As to why these files go bad? That I don't know. Why do Preferences get corrupted? That I don't know either but it definitely happens :-(

  • 29,97 fps from qt  conversion shows up on pc as 18,57 fps?

i shot a 30 sec spot for local tv -- the news station wants the frame rate at 29.97. i out put as that and i then place on a data dvd in the form of a quicktime conversion file (i use the qt conversion because they want some settings that can only be set thru qt conv.)
anyway , i drop the dvd off and they call me and tell me that it is unacceptable and that i encoded/exported to a frame rate 0f 18.57
i have burned 5 dvds only to come up with the same result. has anyone eve heard of this??? not sure what to do.
i am working thru this by submitting minidv but i would like to be able to FTP the file or send DVD for easier work flow.
    appreciate any help.
footage shot on sony fx1 dv mode and i am using a anamorphic dv timeline. under settings it tells me the fps is 29.97
    the news station uses advids.
    tp

    THEY WANT :
    MILLIONS OF COLOR+
    720X540
    29.97 FPS
    4X3 ASPECT RATIO
I CAN'T FOR SOME REASON FIND THE FPS SETTING UNDER THE QT INFO.
WHEN IN FCE I CAN GO UNDER SETTINGS AND SEE THAT IT SAYS 29.97 AND ALSO IF I RIGHT CLICK ON THE CLIP IN THE TIMELINE AND LOOK UNDER SETTINGS THERE IT SAYS 29.97....???? I'M DUMBFOUNDED.
